00:00Good luck, thank you so much Stacey, we're back on set just in time for our next guest, Riyad Makdesi,
00:06hello, thank you so much for being with us, you're a founder and CEO of Playo, with you exercising will
00:14be fun again, that's great news, how so?
00:19Well, actually, inactivity is a major problem that it's a pandemic everyone facing today, we have in France more than
00:27500,000 people becoming inactive every year, with a lot of stimulants, entertainment, video games, we sit all day, so
00:36our goal is to make fitness as fun, as social, to solve this problem.
00:43How do we do it? We have three pillars, first one is we have to make it easy for people
00:49to exercise, so for that we use a mini trampoline, because it's low impact on the joint, it's a perfect
00:55device for people to do physical activity without the perceived effort that they do in a normal way.
01:02Then we have the technology part that to enable recognizing the movement and people do on the trampoline, then we
01:11use techniques from video games to make it fun, that's the second part of it.
01:16So if I understand you well, you play video games on a trampoline?
01:20With your body, with jumping, it's like, in video games you can be the hero, you can jump, you can
01:25fly, but in real world there's gravity, and so what we do is we defy gravity by using the trampoline
01:31and technology to enable that to work.
01:33How effective is it?
01:35Very effective, like, there is 10 minutes on trampoline is equal to 30 minutes on jogging, for example.
01:43Every time you jump, it's like, you flex your entire muscles, the whole body, and then when you're on the
01:49air, you relax all the muscles, so from a health benefit, it's great to have the trampoline, but also, it's
01:56not only about physical, it's about motivation.
01:59In order to be motivated to do this, you need to engage in the game, you have to be in
02:03the flow, and that's why it's like a video game.
02:05But that's the question, how do you keep people motivated? Because a lot of people go to sports, and then
02:09after a few days or a few weeks, sometimes a few months, you just stop because, you know, it takes
02:14too much time, too much effort.
02:16How do you keep people in the game?
02:19Well, first, it starts with personalization, so every person is different from others, so they need a special algorithm to
02:27give them what they need.
02:28So this is number one, is you start small and then you can grow, but also the social aspect of
02:33it.
02:33So it's a very personalized training.
02:34It is personalized, it's in real time, you can, it's actually, it feels like a video game, it is, it's
02:41also social, you can compete with others, there's a leaderboard, which makes you always engaged to come back and do
02:49the exercises.
02:50How much does it cost?
02:52Well, it's not, now at the moment we target B2B, it's for companies, it's about 9,000 euro, you put
02:59it in the company, and then every department have their own trampoline,
03:03where people compete, the enterprise they can create, their own competition between departments, and this is how we go to
03:11market, and events as well.
03:13How long does it take to come up with such a product?
03:16Well, we started like two and a half years ago, but we had COVID, so we had to go a
03:23few turn around before we actually went, we just launched to market last September, we have our first customers, and
03:30now we are selling in France, and we're looking to expand beyond France.
03:34Okay, I was going to say, you know, what are your future projects, and what are you aiming at?
03:38We are aiming to export the Playo station all around the world, hopefully to be in companies, in every company
03:46where they can compete with each other, and then exercise together.
03:49How useful is it to be here at VivaTech for you?
03:51It was great, we had a lot of connections, we have a lot of interaction with our users, customers, partners,
03:58the media, investors, so from all aspects, it's only possible in VivaTech to have this kind of combination, which we
04:05are very happy and grateful for.
04:06Elon Musk will take center stage a little later at VivaTech, in about 45 minutes, he will speak live here.
04:14Will you listen to him, and if you could speak to him, what question would you ask him?
04:20Well, I think I will not ask him about the future, because it's very hard to predict what we're going
04:25to do in five to ten years, but I will ask him what he's planning to do, what is his
04:31plan for his companies.
04:32It would be good to have an insight about his vision of where we're going to go with AI in
04:38particular, especially with Tesla and the other product that he's launching, as a robot, humanoid robot is launching.
04:44Thank you so much, thank you so much for being here with us today, CEO of Plio, Ria, thank you
04:51once again.
04:52Let's head back to the VivaTech floor, where our reporter Simon Harding is waiting for us, it's inside VivaTech.
04:58Thank you.
04:58Merci.
