00:00Welcome back to the Tech Newsroom at Viva Tech 2023.
00:04I am Thomas Mishraki, and you are joining us live in Paris
00:07at the very center of Europe's biggest startup and tech event.
00:11This is where business meets innovation,
00:12and we are following every moment live together on VT News.
00:16Let's dive right in and meet our next guest on Viva Tech Onset.
00:30And I'm joined by Lénique Pedron.
00:32Hello, thank you very much for being with us.
00:35You're head of Swiss Initiative Trust Valley.
00:37It's a center focused on digital trust, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies.
00:43Let's go into this.
00:44First of all, what is digital trust,
00:47and why has it become such an important topic today?
00:50Thank you for the question.
00:52So, digital trust is very important.
00:54It's all the things that digital society can afford to society
01:01and to create really a digital, respectful environment,
01:08a sustainable environment for society, for clients, and for citizens.
01:14What are the key initiatives that Switzerland has put into place
01:17to promote digital trust and cybersecurity?
01:20I'm sorry, I did not hear what you said.
01:22What are the key initiatives that Switzerland put in place to promote all this?
01:28Yes.
01:29So, there is such a lot of initiative in trust in Switzerland.
01:35For example, we have the Trust Valley, as I work for PPP,
01:39so public-private partnership.
01:42And we have also the Swiss Digital Initiative,
01:45who created a label to help society cooperate
01:49to have a labelization for their product.
01:54And also, we have some location.
01:56One is named Unlimit Trust, Unlimit Trust Campus.
02:00So, in Unlimit Trust Campus, we have, for example,
02:04an incubator dedicated to project, to business case, to Serie A,
02:08and focus on digital trust and cybersecurity.
02:10And what are the main challenges that you have faced
02:13ensuring digital trust?
02:15The main challenges is to go to the next level for all the society
02:20and find a respectful environment,
02:23and also to create the good skill,
02:27the good environment for the startup, for the SMEs, SMB,
02:31because they are very under attack,
02:34and also for the corporate.
02:37And we work a lot with academic partners,
02:41very high-level partners in an academic way,
02:44and also with the support of the public sector.
02:48Artificial intelligence, what has it changed in all that,
02:52in cybersecurity, for example?
02:55What is really important for us
02:57is to speak about artificial intelligence with trust.
03:00So, it's really to find a way
03:02to not have the same that we have seen with the data, you know?
03:07And we really want to think about that
03:11before that we create a monster or something
03:14that can be not good for the society,
03:17for you, for me, for my children or yours.
03:20But how do you do that?
03:22What we are doing is some really concrete program
03:25and concrete action.
03:27We have, for example, the Tech Fortress.
03:29This is an acceleration, a booster for startup.
03:32And what we do, it's really to help the startup
03:35to have an understanding of how they can build
03:39their business model with this kind of sustainable world.
03:43And we support it right now, 100 startup.
03:48And they raise plus than 300 million.
03:51And we also support foreign startup and Swiss startup.
03:58How does Switzerland balance the need for digital innovation
04:02with the need of data protection and privacy?
04:06Oh, data privacy is really a huge, very hot topic in Europe.
04:12I was in the U.S. a few weeks ago.
04:15And what I have seen is about infrastructure.
04:18It's not easy to go, I think, for Europe,
04:21because we have, as you know, the GAFAM and so on.
04:24But right now, in Europe,
04:26and I said continental Europe,
04:28because in Switzerland it is in continental Europe,
04:32we are really the leader about data.
04:37And what we can do is really to impulse for the world
04:40a new way to think and create a better world for all.
04:45But how do you concretely collaborate with other countries now?
04:49We collaborate with a lot of ecosystems.
04:52For sure, with Silicon Valley, it's easy.
04:55And also with Singapore, with Israel, with the Nordics,
04:59because the Nordics are very, yes,
05:03it's very important for them to talk about digital trends
05:07and data and all relative to that.
05:09And for sure, with all Germany, France, and the other.
05:12And what we do is we go with our start-upper
05:15and we explain what we are doing in Switzerland
05:19and in the abroad country.
05:21And we try to find a way to work together.
05:25You were talking earlier about our children.
05:27What role do you see education and research
05:31playing in promoting digital trust
05:33and cyber security in Switzerland?
05:35And how is the government supporting those efforts?
05:38As you know, Switzerland is really a neutral country.
05:42And for us, work with academics
05:44is really a way to have a better understanding
05:47at the long term, not only short term.
05:50And for that, it's really interesting.
05:52What I see in the whole program and project
05:57is that academics can help us support the private sector
06:02and help the public sector to have a better understanding
06:05of what is going on with this digital world.
06:08Thank you so much.
06:09Thank you so much for being here today on VivaTech News.
