00:03We've now got one of our reporters, Simon. Simon, welcome to VivaTech. What can you tell us? Who are you
00:09with?
00:13Hi, I'm Zaninad. Welcome, everyone. It's an absolute pleasure to be here. Well, as we know, VivaTech's tagline is where
00:18business meets innovation.
00:20But innovation comes in many shapes and forms, specifically changing and improving the tech ecosystem workplace.
00:27And VivaTech 2023 is committed to increasing diversity and inclusion in tech.
00:33And to talk to us a little bit more about this, we're joined by Rémy Leclerc, the General Director of
00:38the Make.org Foundation.
00:39Rémy, thank you very much for being with us. We're here at the Good Hack, the Hackathon, throughout the four
00:44days in the VivaTech event.
00:45Tell us a little bit about the concept and why you partnered with VivaTech.
00:49Yes, with pleasure. The Good Hack is an amazing and ambitious project.
00:54His goal, his aim, is to engage all of the visitors, the more than 100,000 visitors of VivaTech in
01:01order to, first of all, brainstorm, to co-design, to select,
01:06but also to put in place one project, one project that will solve one of the social issues.
01:12And this year, the social issues that we are going to tackle together with all of the visitors of VivaTech
01:19technology is women in tech.
01:21Of course, we are very glad to be the partner of VivaTech technology because we are speaking about two main
01:28aspects.
01:28The first is about mobilizing, engaging all of the citizens towards social issues.
01:33And the second leads to have a massive impact.
01:37Here, we will be part of the main and the most massive hackathon in Europe in order to tackle a
01:45social issue.
01:46So we are very glad to be a partner.
01:48But also, it's not only about mobilization.
01:51It's not only about engaging the citizens.
01:54It's about impact.
01:55And during one year, we are going to incubate and accelerate the project in order to have, in one year,
02:01in VivaTech technologies,
02:02the report about the massive impact that we built together.
02:05And we know that striving for gender equality in the workplace is still a battle.
02:10It's an uphill struggle.
02:11So why should we keep championing these values in the tech workplace?
02:15Yes, of course, it's not a new issue.
02:17It's an old one.
02:19And, of course, you have a lot of companies, but also especially NGOs, that are working on this issue.
02:24But let's say, to answer your question about three numbers, the first number is about the percentage,
02:31the numbers of girls that are studying engineering science, it's only 27%.
02:38If we are going to the old tech universe, we are speaking about only 23% of women in this
02:46universe.
02:46And even if you are already working in the tech industry, half of the women that are working there are
02:53leaving the tech industry before the age of 35 years old.
02:59So, of course, we have to tackle and we have to create, again, a new impact on this issue.
03:05And tell us, Remy, briefly, to finish, you know, you've got four days here at the event.
03:10What are the milestones that you really want to grab and reach here?
03:14It's a very exciting day.
03:15The first days, the two first days, actually, two days and tomorrow, we are going to ask all of the
03:21visitors for their ideas.
03:23But not only their ideas, but also to vote on the ideas of the other.
03:26This is why, on Friday, we organize more than 15 workshops.
03:32So, the main ideas, the ideas that will have the most votes, are going to be co-designed by the
03:37NGOs, companies and visitors to create concrete projects that we can put in place.
03:43And on Saturdays, all the visitors are going to vote for the project that they want to be put in
03:49place.
03:50Sounds like a very interesting issue. Important issues there, Upton. Back to you.
