In this final installment of our powerful Ten Commandments series, God Honest Truth dives into the profound meaning behind the Tenth Commandment — “You shall not covet.” What does it truly mean to covet? Is it simply desiring what others have, or is there something deeper at play in the heart?
Join us as we peel back the layers of this often-overlooked commandment and uncover how covetousness can silently lead to idolatry, theft, adultery, and even murder. From the Garden of Eden to the words of Yahushua Himself, Scripture paints a sobering picture of the destructive power of unchecked desire.
Through Scripture-based teaching, we will explore what coveting is according to Scripture, how covetousness contrasts with contentment and trust in Yahweh, and real-life biblical examples of the blessings and consequences tied to this command.
This isn’t just about outward obedience — it’s about the transformation of the heart. Don't miss this vital conclusion to the series that calls all believers to walk in holiness, truth, and love for their neighbor. So join us as we learn the God Honest Truth about the tenth commandment of Do Not Covet.

We believe in the inerrancy of scripture and that scripture alone, not any church decree or any word of man, can define what is and is not salvation. We will always strive to do Biblical things in Biblical ways instead of allowing the traditions of men to get in the way of scripture.

00:00In this video, we arrive at the final step in our journey through the Ten Commandments,
00:07the tenth commandment of Thou shalt not covet.
00:11At first glance, it may seem simple, but this commandment cuts deeper than any of the other
00:16commandments.
00:17It cuts right down to the heart itself.
00:21From the very beginning, coveting has led to the fall of man.
00:25So what does it mean to covet, and how can we guard our hearts against it?
00:29How can we combat this covetousness of the human heart?
00:34So stay with us as we open the scriptures, dig deep, and discover the powerful truth behind
00:40this, the last of the Ten Commandments.
00:59This teaching is going to be all about the last and final tenth commandment in our Ten Commandments
01:07series.
01:08And of course, this is the commandment of do not covet.
01:12But before we get into that, I just want to remind everyone that we do have a lot more
01:16notes and a lot more information available on our website for this particular subject that
01:21we were not able to include in this particular teaching.
01:24So if you like those, you can go to our website at GodHonestTruth.com.
01:28Click on the post for this particular episode, and there you'll be able to find the on-demand
01:33video.
01:34You'll be able to find the slides that you see here on your screen if you're watching on a
01:38video platform and be able to go through the slides at your own pace.
01:42You don't even have to keep pace with the video.
01:44You can go through at your own pace.
01:47Below that, you'll be able to find the notes that we took for this particular episode, and
01:52it includes a bunch more information than what we were able to include in this particular
01:56episode.
01:57And also, you'll be able to find the transcript if that is so of use to you.
02:01So go check it out today on GodHonestTruth.com.
02:04And like always, we have included a convenient link to that particular article post down below
02:11in the description.
02:12And that should be down there in the description, whether you're watching on a video platform
02:18or an audio podcasting platform.
02:20It should still be down there all the same.
02:23So the 10th commandment, the last one we're going to be covering in this series.
02:27The command itself, you probably know the shortened version of, Thou shalt not covet.
02:32But the more full and complete version comes straight from Scripture, and you can find
02:37that in Exodus 20, verse 17, or Deuteronomy 5, verse 21, where the 10 commandments are reiterated.
02:45But the commandment goes as such, quote,
02:48You do not covet your neighbor's house, you do not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his
02:53male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, or whatever belongs
02:58to your neighbor, end quote.
03:02So here we've got the coveting aspect and says, do not covet.
03:07That kind of makes it sound like wanting something is bad, but take it into context as part of
03:13proper hermeneutics, taking things into the proper context.
03:17And the context here is talking about do not want the things that belong to someone else.
03:23And here, it gives examples of, well, your neighbor's house, your neighbor's wife, which
03:28would be adultery, his male servant, his female servant, if we still had servants and slaves
03:34and whatnot, his ox, his donkey, don't want anything that he owns, like his livestock, or
03:40whatever it is that belongs to your neighbor.
03:43Don't desire that.
03:45Be content with what you have.
03:47And we're really going to get into this later on.
03:49But this whole command here covers issues of the heart that, well, pretty much the rest
03:56of the commandments don't really cover.
03:59Some of the commandments like have no other gods before me.
04:03Yeah, that could be a part of the heart as well.
04:05But coveting really gets to the, well, pardon the pun, but the heart of the matter, which
04:11is the matter of the heart.
04:13Yeah, just come out that way.
04:18I didn't plan it.
04:19I promise you.
04:20But this is where a lot of the other sins really come from.
04:24And it starts right here in the heart with coveting the vast majority of times.
04:30But before we get into all of that and really get into some details and explaining all that,
04:36let's get into the nerdy parts and get into the weeds.
04:38The word here for covet itself is Strong's H2530.
04:44That's Strong's H2530.
04:47Hamad.
04:49Hamad.
04:50And according to the outline of biblical usage from blueletterbible.org, as a verb, it means
04:56to desire or to covet, take pleasure in, delight in.
05:00Now, keep all that in mind, because that's going to come into play near the end of the
05:04teaching.
05:05It means to desire, covet, take pleasure in, or to delight in.
05:09As a noun, it's, of course, in the feminine, but it means desirableness or preciousness.
05:13Strong's definition has this word meaning to delight in, greatly beloved, covet, delectable
05:19thing, desire, delight, et cetera, et cetera.
05:23Lust, even.
05:24Keep that in mind.
05:25That's going to be coming up here in just a moment and be very, very relevant.
05:29And for the word Hamad, here is your Brown Driver Briggs entry, and also your Jesenius'
05:36Hebrew lexicon entry.
05:38Pretty much saying the same thing we covered already with the outline of biblical usage
05:42and Strong's definition.
05:44Jastrow's Dictionary of the Targums entry, and your Klein Dictionary entry for Hamad.
05:50Again, meaning to desire, to covet, to be carnally excited, according to Jastrow's.
05:56And yeah, that really sums it up in a lot of the places in scripture where it talks about
06:04coveting.
06:05Klein Dictionary he desired, took pleasure in, was desired desirable, desired long forward.
06:10And finally, here is your Hebrew and Aramaic lexicon of the Old Testament, or Halat entry
06:15for Hamad.
06:17And for those of you out there who like to study and get deeper and stuff like that,
06:22I've also started listing out the places in where you can find this particular word in
06:26scripture.
06:27And you can see those right there on your screen.
06:29And if you're listening through an audio podcasting platform, you can find those in
06:33the notes as well.
06:34But it tells you every single place where this particular word is used in scripture.
06:38So you can go look up those particular verses and see how that is translated in your translation
06:45and used in context with what that particular verse is trying to say.
06:50Now, this word is the Hebrew word Hamad for desire or covet, lust, things like that.
06:57There is a Greek word that is used that pretty much means the same thing that is used when
07:03the Septuagint was written.
07:05And that Greek word is Strong's G1937.
07:10G1937.
07:12And that is the Greek word epithumio.
07:17Epithumio.
07:18Hopefully I got that right.
07:19A lot better with Hebrew than Greek.
07:21Epithumio.
07:23But outline of biblical usage means to turn upon a thing to have a desire for, long for,
07:28to desire, to lust, after, covet, of those who seek things forbidden, according to that
07:34entry.
07:35But here's your Strong's Concordance entry for epithumio.
07:41Meaning to set the heart upon, long for, rightfully or otherwise.
07:47Keep that in mind.
07:48Rightfully or otherwise.
07:50Covet, desire, would feign, lust after.
07:53And here is your Thayer's Greek lexicon.
07:56And what it says about this particular entry for epithumio.
08:00And once again, all these entries for the lexicons and the dictionaries we had to cut down
08:05to be able to fit on the particular slides.
08:08If you would like the full entry, you're more than welcome to go look them up yourself.
08:11Or go to the notes that we've provided for you on our website.
08:15And for epithumio, here's your Greek English lexicon of the New Testament entry.
08:20And also your BDAG entry for epithumio.
08:25Meaning to have a strong desire to do or secure something.
08:29desire, long for, et cetera, et cetera.
08:32Now going back and looking at that command in Exodus 20, verse 17.
08:37Here, if you're looking at the video here at the top, you've got the Scriptures 2009 translation.
08:44And here, where it says covet, it has the entries for both the Hebrew and the Greek.
08:50Now notice with the Greek, the epithumio, this word can also mean something like lust.
08:57Not only covet, but lust.
08:59Something to desire for and have for yourself.
09:02That kind of lust and coveting.
09:05And that is the exact kind of lust and coveting that Yeshua was talking about.
09:10When he talks about adultery and the heart in Matthew 5, verse 28.
09:16Just to remind you, here is what Matthew 5, 28 says.
09:20But I say to you that everyone looking at a woman to lust for her.
09:25Has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
09:29This really relates directly back to our 10th commandment here about coveting.
09:34Because the word used here for lust that Yeshua himself used.
09:39Is the word epithumio.
09:41That same word used for covet back in the 10 commandments.
09:46So in other words, he's saying.
09:47But I say to you that everyone looking at a woman to covet for her.
09:52Or to covet after her.
09:54Has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
09:57Now as we covered in a previous episode.
09:59That word for woman.
10:01Word gune in Greek.
10:03Can mean either generic woman.
10:05Or can mean another man's wife.
10:08A wife in general.
10:10And in context.
10:12We think this is the most accurate translation.
10:15And there's actually other translations.
10:17That have come before today.
10:19That agree.
10:21Such as the Wycliffe.
10:23It uses a woman to covet her.
10:26And then in the ABP Strong's.
10:28You go look at all this up.
10:29And the links in the notes we provided for you.
10:31But here it says.
10:32But I say to you.
10:33That all looking at a wife.
10:36Or lusting her.
10:38Meaning another man's wife.
10:40The same with the Tyndale and the Great Bible.
10:43And some others we've got there on the notes.
10:45But they also render this the exact same way.
10:48Meaning to go after another man's wife.
10:50To covet or lust.
10:52In order to take.
10:54Or do inappropriate things.
10:57With that man's wife.
10:59That is the sense that's getting here.
11:01And this is really at the heart of adultery.
11:05The whole lusting where it starts in the heart.
11:07And things like that.
11:08And that's the biggest part here.
11:11And this is something that scripture over and over again.
11:14And even Yeshua himself tries to teach people.
11:19Is that this whole coveting and sin and everything else.
11:22Really comes from the heart.
11:24And that's where the 10th commandment really hits home.
11:28Coveting does come from the heart.
11:30It's not an external kind of sin or things like that.
11:35It's a sin on the inner man.
11:38Coveting is an inward desire.
11:40Not an external action.
11:42It's not something you can always see.
11:44But it generally most always comes to fruition.
11:48In something external that you can see.
11:51Unlike the other commandments.
11:53Coveting may never be seen by others.
11:55A lot of times it is.
11:56But sometimes it may never be seen by others.
11:59However, even if it's not seen by others.
12:02It is known and seen by Yahweh.
12:06Who can examine and know the heart.
12:09So just because you're coveting.
12:12When you shouldn't be.
12:13When you shouldn't be.
12:14Or for the wrong things.
12:15Or for the wrong things.
12:17You're not getting away with it.
12:19Let's look at Proverbs chapter 4 verse 23.
12:23Watch over your heart with all diligence.
12:25For out of it are the sources of life.
12:28Going back to that whole concept.
12:30About how sin and especially coveting.
12:32In this case comes from the heart.
12:35Jeremiah chapter 17 verses 9 through 10.
12:38The heart is crooked after above all.
12:41And desperately sick.
12:43Who shall know it?
12:44I Yahweh search the heart.
12:47I try the kidneys.
12:48And give every man according to his ways.
12:50According to the fruit of his deeds.
12:53And finally in Mark chapter 7 verses 21 and 22.
12:57For from within.
12:58Out of the heart of men.
13:00Proceed evil reasonings.
13:01Adulteries.
13:02Whorings.
13:03Murders.
13:04Thefts.
13:05Greedy desires.
13:06Wickednesses.
13:07Deceit.
13:08Indecency.
13:09And evil eye.
13:10Blasphemy.
13:11Pride.
13:12And foolishness.
13:13And that's the words of Yeshua himself.
13:15Reiterating and teaching.
13:17That Torah or that Tanakh point.
13:20About how.
13:21Sin.
13:22Covetousness.
13:23Stuff like that.
13:24All comes from the heart.
13:27And here in this word.
13:28Or in this particular passage.
13:30Where it says greedy desires.
13:32That is in some translations.
13:33Is translated as covetousness.
13:35But that comes from a different word.
13:38But pretty much means the same thing.
13:40This word is Strong's G4124.
13:44Strong's G4124.
13:46And that's pleonexia.
13:49Pleonexia.
13:50According to the outline of biblical usage.
13:52It means a greedy desire to have more.
13:55Covetousness.
13:56Avarice.
13:57Here's your Strong's definition for G4124.
14:01And means by implication.
14:03Fraudulency.
14:04Extortion.
14:05Covetousness.
14:06Practices.
14:07Greediness.
14:08In Thayer's Greek's lexicon entry.
14:10Meaning greedy desire to have more.
14:12Covetousness.
14:13Avarice.
14:14So.
14:15Pretty much means the same thing.
14:16There are some nuances there.
14:17But it's beyond the scope of this particular teaching.
14:20Here in the Greek English lexicon of the New Testament.
14:23Here is the entry for pleonexia.
14:26Meaning to a strong desire to acquire more and more material possessions.
14:30Or to possess more things than other people have.
14:33All irrespective of need.
14:35And finally here is your BDAG entry.
14:39And the locations in scripture.
14:41Where you can find this particular word that is used.
14:44Pleonexia.
14:45And according to BDAG the entry here for pleonexia.
14:49Is the state of desiring to have more than one's do.
14:53Greediness.
14:54Insatiableness.
14:55Avarice.
14:56Covetousness.
14:57This is definitely a word that seems like it's going to always be used in the negative.
15:04Or always in a negative context.
15:07However the other words.
15:08And just the whole concept of covet in general.
15:11We'll get to that in just a minute.
15:13Maybe.
15:14Maybe not.
15:15Always used in a negative way.
15:17But we'll look here in coming up.
15:20Coveting itself.
15:21Like we already covered.
15:22It comes from the heart.
15:24But that coveting that starts in the heart.
15:26Eventually.
15:27A lot of times.
15:28Burst out other sins.
15:31In Joshua chapter 7 verses 21.
15:33I'm sorry.
15:3420 through 21.
15:35So Akan answered Yehoshua and said.
15:38Truly I have sinned against Yahweh Elohim of Yisrael.
15:41And this is what I did.
15:43When I saw among the spoil.
15:45A lovely garment from Shinar.
15:47And 200 shekels of silver.
15:49And a wedge of gold.
15:50Weighing 50 shekels.
15:52I coveted them.
15:54And took them.
15:55And see.
15:56They are hidden in the ground.
15:57In the midst of my tent.
15:58With a silver under it.
16:00Now we covered this previously.
16:02But just to recap real quick.
16:04This is a story where they were told to destroy everything.
16:07Get rid of it all.
16:08But here Akan saw something that he wanted.
16:11He coveted something.
16:13So he stole it.
16:14And disobeyed what Yahweh had told them.
16:17As a result.
16:19Even though he came clean.
16:21And he told the truth.
16:22He manned up.
16:23In other words.
16:24Even though he did all that.
16:25They still took him.
16:27And all those possessions.
16:28And they.
16:29Stoned him to death.
16:31And they put this big pile of stones on top of him.
16:34So it all started.
16:36With the coveting in his heart.
16:38Once he saw.
16:39These things that he liked.
16:41And really wanted.
16:43Micah chapter 2 verse 2.
16:45And they coveted fields.
16:47And seized them.
16:48Also houses.
16:49And took them away.
16:50And they oppressed.
16:51A man and his house.
16:52A man and his inheritance.
16:54Finally.
16:55James chapter 1 verses 14 and 15.
16:58But each one is enticed.
17:00When he is drawn away.
17:01By his own desires.
17:02And trapped.
17:03Then.
17:04When desire has conceived.
17:06It gives birth to sin.
17:09And sin.
17:10When it has been accomplished.
17:11Brings forth death.
17:13Here is where it comes.
17:15Full circle.
17:16We all know.
17:17That is appointed unto man.
17:19Once to die.
17:20And the man who sins.
17:21Shall die.
17:23Coveting is a sin.
17:25And coveting gives birth to sin.
17:27And since we covet.
17:29And sin.
17:30Then we die.
17:32So.
17:33Coveting is.
17:34In essence.
17:35A deadly sin.
17:36Right?
17:37I mean.
17:38They're all deadly sins.
17:39But.
17:40You get the point.
17:41Covetousness really is.
17:42The.
17:44Seed.
17:45From which a lot of the.
17:47Other.
17:48Sins.
17:49Come about.
17:50And it's really about.
17:53Who do you trust in?
17:54You trust in Yahweh.
17:55To provide for you.
17:56Or do you trust.
17:57In your own.
17:58Ability.
17:59Apart from Yahweh.
18:00To just.
18:01Take and grab.
18:02And get whatever it is.
18:03That you want.
18:04And that you.
18:05Think.
18:06You need.
18:07You don't always.
18:08Need the same thing.
18:09Things like.
18:11Theft.
18:14Get.
18:15Come from.
18:16Covetousness.
18:17Things like.
18:18Adultery.
18:19Definitely.
18:20Comes.
18:21From.
18:22Coveting.
18:23Things like.
18:24Deceit.
18:25And a lot of times.
18:26Even things like.
18:27Murder.
18:28Come.
18:29From.
18:30Coveting.
18:31A lot.
18:32If not.
18:33All.
18:34Come.
18:35From.
18:36Coveting.
18:37Where it's.
18:38Having.
18:39Other gods.
18:40Not.
18:41Honoring.
18:42The Sabbath.
18:43Like you should.
18:44Having.
18:45Or creating.
18:46Other.
18:47Images.
18:48And.
18:49Statues.
18:50Things like that.
18:51Etc.
18:52Etc.
18:53Etc.
18:54Guard your heart.
18:55Get your heart.
18:56Right.
18:57Stop.
18:58Coveting.
18:59And.
19:00Be content.
19:01Because.
19:02This.
19:03Is where.
19:04All.
19:05Or.
19:06Most.
19:07Number one.
19:08Sin.
19:09That you.
19:10Probably.
19:11Should focus on.
19:12More than anything.
19:13Is your heart.
19:14And the covetousness.
19:15Of your own.
19:16Heart.
19:17Let's take.
19:18For example.
19:19The.
19:20Garden.
19:21Of Eden.
19:22When.
19:23Eve.
19:24Saw.
19:25The fruit.
19:26She.
19:27Coveted.
19:28That fruit.
19:29From the.
19:30Knowledge.
19:31Of the tree.
19:32Of good.
19:33And evil.
19:34And then.
19:35She.
19:36Combined.
19:37But it started.
19:38With the covetousness.
19:39In her heart.
19:40And.
19:41As I say.
19:42The rest.
19:43Is history.
19:44The fall of man.
19:45The sin.
19:46And everything else.
19:47That has occurred.
19:48Since then.
19:49But.
19:50Go back.
19:51To the very beginning.
19:52And what was that.
19:53Original.
19:54First.
19:55Sin.
19:56That led.
19:57To everything else.
19:58It was.
19:59Eve.
20:00Coveting.
20:01The fruit.
20:02In her heart.
20:03Even though.
20:04She was told not to.
20:05Makes me.
20:06Think of.
20:07What I think of.
20:08When talking about.
20:09Coveting.
20:10Is the story of.
20:11Ahab.
20:12And Jezebel.
20:13One of the.
20:14Particular piece of land.
20:15And the landowner.
20:16Wouldn't.
20:17Sell it to him.
20:18Or give it to him.
20:19So.
20:20Jezebel.
20:21Went.
20:22And had.
20:23The landowner killed.
20:24And then.
20:25Acquired.
20:26The land.
20:27And.
20:28Because of that.
20:29Covetousness.
20:30And not letting go of it.
20:31Not getting his heart.
20:32Right.
20:33Murder occurred.
20:34Yeah.
20:35Covetousness.
20:36Really is the source of.
20:37A lot.
20:38If not all.
20:39The other.
20:40Sins.
20:41Covetousness.
20:42Covetousness.
20:43Also has a relationship.
20:44With.
20:45Idolatry.
20:46We look at Colossians.
20:47Chapter three.
20:48Verse five.
20:49Therefore.
20:50Put to death.
20:51Your members.
20:52Which are on the earth.
20:53Whoring.
20:54Uncleanness.
20:55Passion.
20:56Evil desire.
20:57And greed.
20:58Of gain.
20:59Which is.
21:00Idolatry.
21:01Evil desire.
21:02And greed.
21:03Of gain.
21:04That's another way.
21:05Of saying.
21:06Covetousness.
21:07That.
21:08According to Paul.
21:09When he arrives.
21:10To the church.
21:11At Colossus.
21:12Is.
21:13Idolatry.
21:14Covetousness.
21:15Is.
21:16Idolatry.
21:17According to Paul.
21:18To covet.
21:19Is like saying.
21:20In your heart.
21:21That you.
21:22Don't.
21:23Trust.
21:24Yahweh.
21:25Not enough.
21:26When.
21:27Man.
21:28Chases.
21:29What his neighbor.
21:30Has.
21:31He stops.
21:32Trusting.
21:33Yahweh.
21:34He starts.
21:35Looking.
21:36As they say.
21:37And trying to keep up.
21:38With the Joneses.
21:39Instead of.
21:40Looking.
21:41And relying.
21:42On.
21:43Yahweh.
21:44There's.
21:45Plenty of examples.
21:46Of this.
21:47In scripture.
21:48But one of those.
21:49That really sticks out.
21:50Is the story.
21:51Of the rich.
21:52Young.
21:53Ruler.
21:54I've cut this down.
21:56Just for the sake of brevity.
21:57But you can go look it up for yourself.
21:59Matthew chapter 19.
22:00Verses 16.
22:01To 24.
22:02One came to him.
22:03And said to him.
22:04Good teacher.
22:05What good.
22:06Shall I do.
22:07To have everlasting life.
22:08And he said to him.
22:09If you wish to enter into life.
22:11Guard the commands.
22:12The young man.
22:13Said to him.
22:14All these.
22:15I have watched over.
22:16From my youth.
22:17What do I still lack?
22:18Yeshua said to him.
22:19If you wish to be perfect.
22:21Go.
22:22Sell what you have.
22:23And give to the poor.
22:24And you shall have treasure.
22:25In heaven.
22:26And when the young man.
22:27Heard the word.
22:28He went away sad.
22:29Because he had.
22:30Many.
22:31Many.
22:32Possessions.
22:33So here.
22:34The rich young ruler.
22:35Had.
22:36A lot of money.
22:37Had a lot of possessions.
22:38And he didn't want to give it up.
22:39Yeshua.
22:40Knew where his heart was.
22:42It's not wrong.
22:43To be rich.
22:44And we'll get into.
22:46About.
22:47The positive.
22:48Side.
22:49Of covetousness.
22:50Can't it.
22:51Or.
22:52Anyways.
22:53Stay tuned.
22:54But.
22:55Yeshua knew his heart.
22:56Was on his riches.
22:57And that he coveted.
22:59His riches.
23:00And the possessions he had.
23:02And he coveted.
23:03Keeping those.
23:04And Yeshua.
23:05Knew that.
23:06And he.
23:07Was looking here.
23:08Now that you know.
23:09More about covetousness.
23:10You can see here.
23:11What Yeshua is doing.
23:12He's trying to see.
23:13The rich young man.
23:14Would.
23:15Get his heart right.
23:16And get rid of that covetousness.
23:17In order to move forward.
23:19In his salvation.
23:20And have everlasting life.
23:22As it says here.
23:23In the passage.
23:24And the rich young ruler.
23:25Would not get rid of his own covetousness.
23:27In his heart.
23:28And.
23:29Because of that.
23:30He went.
23:31Away.
23:32Sad.
23:33Now.
23:34As you can see.
23:35We covered this earlier.
23:37That.
23:38Covetousness is not.
23:39An external.
23:40Generally not.
23:41An external action.
23:42That can be seen.
23:43By others.
23:44And.
23:45Here.
23:46In the whole passage.
23:48The rich young man.
23:49Said.
23:50That he kept.
23:51All of the commandments.
23:52So.
23:53Everyone was able to see.
23:54That he kept the rest of the commandments.
23:55Honoring.
23:56His father.
23:57Not stealing.
23:58Not murdering.
23:59Not committing adultery.
24:00Etc.
24:01Etc.
24:02And good for him.
24:03For doing all that.
24:04But.
24:05Commandment number 10.
24:06He.
24:07Could not.
24:08Get rid of that sin.
24:09Of covetousness.
24:10Which was an.
24:11Inward.
24:12Sin.
24:13And Yeshua knew that.
24:14That's why.
24:15He addressed.
24:16His issue.
24:17Of covetousness.
24:18And getting rid.
24:19Of all his riches.
24:20Which many young men.
24:22Couldn't do it.
24:23Once again.
24:24Covetousness.
24:25Covetousness.
24:26Is.
24:27Covetousness.
24:28Is.
24:29An inward.
24:30Sin.
24:31Not an external.
24:32Action.
24:33Generally.
24:34So how do we.
24:35Kind of.
24:36Treat this.
24:37Condition.
24:38Of coveting.
24:39And.
24:40Which leads to.
24:41All these other sins.
24:42Well.
24:43One way you can do that.
24:44Is.
24:45Being content.
24:46With what we have.
24:47I mean.
24:48Think about it.
24:49Covetousness.
24:50Really comes about.
24:51From not being content.
24:52With what you have.
24:53So the.
24:54Treatment.
24:55Would be.
24:56Being content.
24:57With what you have.
24:58You cannot.
24:59Both.
25:00Covet.
25:01And.
25:02Be content.
25:03With what you have.
25:04For he himself.
25:05Has said.
25:06I shall never.
25:07Leave you.
25:08Nor.
25:09Forsake you.
25:16Once again.
25:17Let your way of life.
25:18Be without.
25:19The love of silver.
25:20Let your way of life.
25:22Be without.
25:23Covetousness.
25:24Be satisfied.
25:25With what you have.
25:26Be content.
25:27With what you have.
25:29For he himself.
25:30Has said.
25:31I shall never.
25:32Leave you.
25:33Nor forsake you.
25:34For he himself.
25:35Has said.
25:36Take care of you.
25:37Rely on me.
25:38Put your faith.
25:39In me.
25:40First Timothy.
25:41Chapter six.
25:42Verses six.
25:43Through eight.
25:44But reverence.
25:45With contentment.
25:46Is great.
25:47Gain.
25:48For we brought.
25:49Not.
25:50Into the world.
25:51And it is impossible.
25:52To take.
25:53Any out.
25:54When we have.
25:55Food and covering.
25:56We shall be satisfied.
25:57With.
25:58These.
25:59Once again.
26:00Be content.
26:01With what you have.
26:02You came into this world.
26:03Owning.
26:04Nothing.
26:05First coin.
26:06To your name.
26:07You didn't have the first dollar.
26:08You didn't have the first.
26:09Stitch of thread.
26:10To your name.
26:11You came into this world.
26:12With nothing.
26:13And when you.
26:14Die.
26:15Everything that you have.
26:16Everything that you've acquired.
26:17Everything that you have.
26:18Coveted.
26:19Is still going to be here.
26:20It's not going to go with you.
26:21It's all.
26:22Temporal.
26:23Just like this life on earth.
26:25So what point.
26:27Is there.
26:28In.
26:29Coveting.
26:30All of this stuff.
26:31In.
26:32Destroying your life.
26:34Inside your heart.
26:35When it's.
26:36All for not.
26:37In the long run.
26:38Contentment is the.
26:41Restful.
26:42Spirit.
26:43That trust.
26:44Yahweh's provision.
26:45Being.
26:46Happy and content.
26:47With what.
26:48Yahweh provides for you.
26:49And trusting in him.
26:51To.
26:52Provide that.
26:53For you.
26:54The tenth commandment.
26:55Really does call us.
26:56To gratitude.
26:57Contentment.
26:58Contentment.
26:59And also.
27:00To.
27:01Faith.
27:02In.
27:03Yahweh.
27:04And trust.
27:05In.
27:06Yahweh.
27:07Something that.
27:08Really comes to mind.
27:09Is the story that.
27:10Yeshua told.
27:11About the.
27:12Lilies.
27:13And how.
27:14Yahweh provides.
27:15And things like that.
27:16Matthew chapter 6.
27:17Verses 25.
27:18To 34.
27:19Because of this.
27:20I say to you.
27:21Do not worry about your life.
27:23What you shall eat.
27:24Or drink.
27:25Or about your body.
27:26What you shall put on.
27:28Is not life.
27:29More than the food.
27:30And the body.
27:31More than the clothing.
27:32Look at the birds.
27:33Of the heaven.
27:34For they neither sow.
27:35Nor reap.
27:36Nor gather.
27:37Into storehouses.
27:38Yet your heavenly father.
27:39Does.
27:40Feed.
27:41Them.
27:42Are you not worth.
27:43More than they.
27:44And which of you.
27:45By worrying.
27:46Is able to add.
27:47One cubit.
27:48To his life span.
27:49So why do you worry.
27:50About clothing.
27:51Note well.
27:52The lilies.
27:53Of the field.
27:54How they grow.
27:55They neither toil.
27:56Nor spin.
27:57And I say to you.
27:58That even.
27:59Shalom.
28:00In all his esteem.
28:01Was not dressed.
28:02Like one of these.
28:03But if Elohim.
28:04So close the grass.
28:05Of the field.
28:06Which exists today.
28:07And tomorrow.
28:08Is thrown into the furnace.
28:09How much more you.
28:11O you.
28:12Of little.
28:13Believe.
28:14Do not worry then.
28:15Saying.
28:16What shall we eat.
28:17Or what shall we drink.
28:18Or what shall we wear.
28:19For all these.
28:20The nations seek for.
28:22And your heavenly father.
28:23Knows that you.
28:24Need all these.
28:25But seek.
28:26First.
28:27The reign.
28:28Of Elohim.
28:29And his righteousness.
28:30And all these.
28:31Shall be added to you.
28:32Do not.
28:33Then.
28:34Worry about tomorrow.
28:35For tomorrow.
28:36Shall have its own.
28:37Worries.
28:38Each day.
28:39Has enough.
28:40Evil.
28:41Of itself.
28:42Don't worry about tomorrow.
28:43Don't worry about.
28:44Stocking up.
28:45For yourself.
28:46And it's always good.
28:47To have a plan.
28:48But.
28:49Have.
28:50Faith.
28:51And put your trust.
28:52In Yahweh.
28:53To provide for you.
28:54And do not go around.
28:55Coveting the things.
28:56That.
28:57You should be trusting.
28:58Yahweh for.
28:59And.
29:00Definitely.
29:01Do not go around.
29:02Coveting the things.
29:03That belong.
29:04To other people.
29:05Other men's wives.
29:06Other men's property.
29:08Don't go stealing.
29:10Other people's property.
29:11Don't go.
29:12Committing adultery.
29:13With another man's wife.
29:15If you're a woman.
29:16And you're married.
29:17Don't commit adultery.
29:18By going out.
29:19To another man.
29:20That's not your husband.
29:21Rely.
29:22On.
29:23Yahweh.
29:24To provide.
29:25Be content.
29:26With what you have.
29:27You don't even.
29:28Understand.
29:29How.
29:30Lucky.
29:31And blessed.
29:32You really are.
29:33I mean.
29:34Sit down.
29:35And start thinking about.
29:36All the blessings.
29:37That you have been granted.
29:38In your life.
29:39In your.
29:40Eventually.
29:41Come to realize.
29:42That there's a lot of things.
29:43You just.
29:44Don't realize.
29:45And think about.
29:46You really are.
29:47Blessed.
29:48And Yahweh.
29:49Really does.
29:50Take care.
29:51Of his own.
29:52To put your faith.
29:53With your trust.
29:54In Yahweh.
29:55And be content.
29:56With what you have.
29:57That is how.
29:58We combat.
29:59Covetousness.
30:00Get your heart.
30:01Right.
30:02And do not.
30:03Covet.
30:04Incorrectly.
30:05Here are some examples.
30:06In scripture.
30:07Where coveting.
30:08Is.
30:09Put in a.
30:10Positive light.
30:11Where it's actually.
30:12A.
30:13Good thing.
30:14Let's look at that.
30:15Genesis chapter 2.
30:16Verse 9.
30:18And out of the ground.
30:19Yahweh.
30:20Elohim.
30:21Made every tree grow.
30:22That is pleasant.
30:23To the sight.
30:24And good for food.
30:25With the tree of life.
30:26In the midst of the garden.
30:27And the tree of the knowledge.
30:28Of good and evil.
30:30So here.
30:31Where it says.
30:32That is pleasant.
30:33To the sight.
30:34It's that same.
30:35Hebrew word.
30:36Hamad.
30:37That strong.
30:38H2530.
30:39Hamad.
30:40And.
30:41Pretty much.
30:42It says.
30:43And out of the ground.
30:44Yahweh.
30:45Elohim.
30:46Made every tree grow.
30:47That is covetousness.
30:48Or that is coveted.
30:49To the sight.
30:51So it's a.
30:52Good thing.
30:53To covet.
30:54What Yahweh has made.
30:55Because what he made.
30:56Was good.
30:57Here in Psalms chapter 19.
30:58Verses 9 through 10.
30:59The fear of Yahweh.
31:01Is clean.
31:02Standing forever.
31:03The right rulings of Yahweh.
31:05Are true.
31:06They are righteous.
31:07Altogether.
31:08More desirable.
31:09Than gold.
31:10Than much fine gold.
31:11And sweeter than honey.
31:13And the honeycomb.
31:14Here in the book of Psalms.
31:16It's talking about.
31:17The right rulings of Yahweh.
31:18How they're true.
31:19How they're righteous.
31:20And how these right rulings.
31:22Are to be coveted.
31:24That same word.
31:26These right rulings of Yahweh.
31:27Are to be coveted.
31:28Be coveted.
31:29More.
31:30Than.
31:31Gold.
31:32Went on into the Brit Hadashat.
31:34Luke.
31:35Chapter 22.
31:36Verses 15.
31:37And he said to them.
31:39With desire.
31:40I have desired.
31:41To eat this Pesach.
31:42With you.
31:43Before.
31:44My.
31:45Suffering.
31:46So here.
31:47Yeshua himself.
31:48Is talking about.
31:49How.
31:50He.
31:51Covets.
31:52And what is he coveting.
31:53He is coveting.
31:54To eat the Pesach.
31:55With.
31:56His.
31:57Apostles.
31:58But here.
31:59Yeshua is saying.
32:00That he is coveting something.
32:01And is coveting.
32:02In a.
32:03Positive.
32:04Manner.
32:05It's not something that belongs to anyone else.
32:07That he's taken away from anyone else.
32:09So it's not.
32:10A sin.
32:11In that.
32:12Context.
32:13Desiring.
32:14To eat.
32:15The Pesach.
32:16Or the Passover.
32:17With.
32:18His.
32:19Apostles.
32:20And finally.
32:21In first Timothy.
32:22Chapter three.
32:23Verse one.
32:24Trustworthy.
32:25Is the word.
32:26If a man.
32:27Longs.
32:28For the position.
32:29Of an overseer.
32:30He desires.
32:31A good.
32:32Work.
32:33Here.
32:34In the letter to Timothy.
32:35Paul is.
32:36Laying out the qualifications.
32:37For.
32:38Bishops.
32:39And deacons.
32:40Elders.
32:41Things like that.
32:42For the position.
32:43Of an overseer.
32:44He desires.
32:45Or he.
32:46Covets.
32:47A good.
32:48Work.
32:49So here.
32:50Paul is using the word.
32:51Covet.
32:52In a.
32:53Positive.
32:54Sense.
32:55That epithumio.
32:56Someone who is.
32:57Coveting.
32:58Position.
32:59Of an overseer.
33:00And Paul is referring to that.
33:01As a.
33:02Good.
33:03Thing.
33:04But.
33:05Once again.
33:06All in context.
33:07This should not be.
33:08Something that belongs to.
33:09Anyone else.
33:11Otherwise.
33:12It's going to be bad.
33:13It's going to be a sin.
33:14Trying to take something.
33:15That belongs to someone else.
33:16And.
33:17Doing it incorrectly.
33:18Doing it falsely.
33:19Yeah.
33:20No good.
33:21And that's really where the heart.
33:22Of the ten commandment comes in.
33:24Is wanting something.
33:25For the wrong.
33:26Reasons.
33:27Or something that belongs to someone else.
33:29That we.
33:30Have no right to.
33:31And should stay away from.
33:32Altogether.
33:33Like.
33:34Another.
33:35Man's wife.
33:36In summary.
33:37Talking about the ten commandment.
33:38And.
33:39Coveting.
33:40The.
33:41Commandment.
33:42Itself.
33:43Straight up.
33:44And straightforward.
33:45Just to reiterate.
33:46Once again.
33:47You do not covet your neighbor's house.
33:48You do not covet your neighbor's wife.
33:50Nor his male servant.
33:51Nor his female servant.
33:52Nor his ox.
33:53Nor his donkey.
33:54Or whatever belongs to your neighbor.
33:57There were three different words.
33:59That we covered tonight.
34:00In this teaching.
34:01For covet.
34:02Both the.
34:03One Hebrew word.
34:04And two different Greek words.
34:05The Hebrew word.
34:06Was strong's.
34:07H.
34:08Two.
34:09Five.
34:10Three.
34:11Zero.
34:12And that is the Hebrew word.
34:13Hamad.
34:14Hamad.
34:15The first.
34:16Greek word that we covered.
34:17Was strong's.
34:18G.
34:19One.
34:20Nine.
34:21Three.
34:22Seven.
34:23Second.
34:24One.
34:25Is strong's.
34:26g4-1-2-4.
34:27Phleonexia.
34:28Phleonexia.
34:29grounds
34:53other sins. These other sins start in the heart
34:57as covetousness and then
34:59how should we say this? Bear themselves out as sin
35:05in other ways such as murder, theft, adultery, idolatry
35:09things like that. Covetousness is the
35:13opposite of having faith and trust in Yahweh
35:17and it's the opposite of being content with what you have.
35:21So how do we combat this covetousness? Well
35:25if it's the opposite of having faith in Yahweh and being content then the way
35:29of combating it is to trust in Yahweh to put our
35:33faith in Yahweh to provide for us and take care of us which He
35:37will and He already has. He's already blessed us in more ways than we probably even realize
35:41and to be content with what it is
35:45that we already have and that's just
35:49the God honest truth. So thank you for joining us
