00:00In this video, we stand before the words of Yahweh that are still speaking to every beating
00:08heart today.
00:10Thou shalt not steal.
00:12Four simple words, but a mighty call to righteousness.
00:17Is stealing just taking another man's goods, or does it go even deeper than that and go
00:23even more nuanced?
00:24So stay with us as we search the scriptures, challenge traditions, and see what it really
00:30means to obey the Eighth Commandment of Thou shalt not steal.
00:54So this teaching or drosh is going to be all about the Eighth Commandment in our Ten Commandment
00:58series.
00:59And of course, this commandment is the commandment of do not steal.
01:03But before we get into that, I just want to remind you that, like always, we have an article
01:08post for this particular episode on our website at GodHonestTruth.com.
01:13And there you can find the on-demand video.
01:17You'll find the drosh slides that you see here on your screen if you're watching on a video
01:21platform.
01:22You'll also be able to get the notes that we took for this episode and provided for
01:26you free of charge.
01:27And the transcript of that is so helpful for you as well.
01:31And you can find all that on one page on our website at GodHonestTruth.com.
01:36Simply click on the post on the main page for the episode of Do Not Steal.
01:40You'll be able to get all of that on one page.
01:44Now, to make it even easier, we have actually included a link down below in the description.
01:48Simply click on that link in the description, and boom, you're right there with nothing
01:54else to do.
01:55And that should be down there in the description, whether you're watching on a video platform
01:59or an audio podcasting platform.
02:02So the eighth commandment, do not steal.
02:05The command itself, as it is put to the Scriptures 2009 translation that we use here at God Honest
02:12Truth, it says, straightforward and simply, you do not steal.
02:17Now, of course, it's put in other ways, but pretty much the same exact way.
02:22Like we look in the Wycliffe, which was the first English or complete English translation
02:27of Scripture.
02:30And the Wycliffe states, thou shalt not do theft.
02:35Pretty poetic way of doing it.
02:36Of course, the King James, which most people are pretty used to and which people like me
02:41were raised on.
02:42Thou shalt not steal.
02:44Those are the kind of commands that really get ingrained in people, and they really remember.
02:50ISV, you are not to steal.
02:53And then the BBE, which I'm not particularly fond of, but I thought it was kind of neat
02:58in this one instance.
02:59It says, do not take the property of another.
03:02Now, as we go through tonight's drosh and this teaching, you're going to find out that
03:08stealing is not just about tangible things.
03:13And I'm not going to explain it all right now because we're going to get into that as
03:15we go on.
03:16But the BBE here, the Bible in basic English, not really a translation.
03:20It's more of a paraphrase, but that's a tangent.
03:22It's not really about taking the property, but taking something tangible or intangible
03:29that's not yours and does not belong to you that you have earned or otherwise.
03:34Make sure to stay tuned.
03:35Make sure to know how to have your notes ready because there's going to be a lot here.
03:38And once again, go check out the notes on our website for more information that we even
03:43have here in this particular episode.
03:45Here is the Strong's number for the word steal here in the Eighth Commandment, and that is
03:53the Strong's number H1589, Ghanav, Ghanav, and the outline of biblical usage from bluelitterbible.org
04:02states it as to steal, steal away, or carry away.
04:06And the various types of that here says to steal, to be stolen, to be brought by stealth.
04:12Remember that because we're going to go over certain aspects.
04:15And nuances of stealing that involve stealth.
04:19And then again, also to go by stealth.
04:22Strong's definition, to thieve, meaning literally or even figuratively, to deceive, to steal, steal
04:30away, get by stealth.
04:32Brown driver Briggs, to steal, steal away, be stolen away by or even steal a person.
04:38Keep that in mind as well.
04:41Seen as this Hebrew lexicon, to steal, to take away by theft, secretly.
04:45To deceive, to do by stealth.
04:48So we've got not only this simple, you know, take an object someone has, that kind of stealing,
04:55but it's also the stealth, not immediately known kind of stealing as well.
05:00Jastrell's dictionary, the Targums, to be stolen, kidnapped, to be deceived.
05:05Now that's the first one that has kidnapped in there, but keep that in mind as we go through.
05:09Then of course, Cline dictionary has it as theft.
05:13And if you'd like more information from the dictionaries and lexicons, once again, you'll
05:17check out the notes on GodHonestTruth.com for this particular episode.
05:20Now defining stealing even more and not necessarily in such a nerdy way, the Hebrew word ganav means
05:30to take away, even secretly, to carry away without consent or to deal deceitfully with.
05:35And it encompasses more than just direct stealing, but it does, and it's very obvious, well, that's
05:44included, I forgot where I was going with that, but it does include the direct stealing, like
05:49if I had to come up and took your lollipop, that'd be direct stealing.
05:51The theft of tangible goods, as it were, the simple taking of items, not returning borrowed
05:57items even.
05:57You know, most people think about this, if I borrow your chainsaw to cut up some wood, and
06:06I just simply don't return it, I keep it.
06:09Well, I didn't take it from you by force, so it's not theft in that sense, but it's something
06:14that's not mine that I got without earning, right?
06:18I borrowed it and never returned it.
06:20So that is a form of theft as well.
06:23Theft also encompasses fraudulent dealings.
06:25You think about this within the marketing realm, within capitalism, the society as a whole
06:33kind of thing, but this deals with things like false advertising, manipulative sales
06:38tactics, and things like that.
06:41Theft also encompasses something like financial injustice, and this, I know this is starting
06:47to get nuanced here, but this is more than what most people think about when they think
06:51about do not steal.
06:52But financial injustice, what we're talking about here, is withholding wages.
06:57If you're an employer, if you hire the neighbor's kid to mow your lawn, and you don't pay them,
07:04well, you know, you're stealing from them, because that money is theirs at that point.
07:09So withholding wages is a form of theft using unequal weights and measures, which Bible definitely
07:16talks about that.
07:17And we'll get into here as well.
07:20Theft also encompasses kidnapping and human trafficking.
07:24This is also classified as a form of theft under Torah law, and we'll be getting into that
07:29here in just a moment.
07:31And various types of theft, according to Torah, require different punishments, some more severe
07:42than others, but stay tuned as we go forward.
07:45Theft also encompasses things like stealing time, stealing credit, or stealing various ideas.
07:52So things that are intangible, not just the tangible, but the intangible as well.
07:58Things like this include plagiarism, falsifying timesheets at work, making it seem like you worked
08:03more than you did.
08:05You're stealing from your employer by doing such things.
08:09The slacking off while at work, while being paid to do stuff.
08:13Now, if your job includes just slacking off in case you're needed, that's one thing.
08:19But if you're supposed to be doing something, and you're slacking off not doing what you're
08:22supposed to do, and you're still getting paid for it, hey, think about it.
08:27That really is a type of theft.
08:30And just about everyone out there probably knows someone like this.
08:34Not going to name names.
08:36Theft also encompasses things like stealing someone's reputation, their name, as we went
08:42through in a previous episode, where name is the character, the reputation which someone
08:47is known by.
08:49Things like this include slander, gossip, and we'll get into some biblical examples of
08:55that as well.
08:56So make sure to have your notes ready and stay tuned.
09:00In a nutshell, theft really comes down to taking what belongs to another without right or without
09:07permission or without earning it or anything like that.
09:11And once again, this can come down to things that are both tangible and things that are
09:16intangible.
09:17Like time, like salary, things that you're owed.
09:22Seeking personal gain through another's loss.
09:23That's really what theft is in a nutshell.
09:27It's generally a lot of times about greed.
09:31I mean, sometimes it can be for survival, but it's still theft.
09:34But seeking personal gain through another's loss.
09:38That's what theft really boils down to.
09:40And like we said before, and we reiterating this and kicking, I mean, beating a dead horse,
09:47I guess it is at this point.
09:48But a lot of people just go on the surface and they don't really dig deep to find out
09:52even more about what this commandment means.
09:54They think of theft as stealing something that you can see and hold and touch.
10:00I got to steal your coffee cup or something like that.
10:02No, theft includes physical goods, includes money, property, even a spouse.
10:09You ever think about that?
10:11That your spouse could be stolen away?
10:13We'll get into a biblical example of that coming up later too.
10:17But theft also includes intangible things like trust and reputation, trying to steal away
10:25someone's good character, which we'll get into that as a biblical example.
10:29We've got several examples coming up straight from Scripture about theft and these various
10:34types of theft.
10:35So make sure to stay tuned and stay awake for that.
10:39Some various implications of stealing or various implications of theft.
10:44Matthew chapter 22, verses 37 through 40.
10:48And Yeshua said to him, you shall love Yahweh your Elohim with all your heart and with all
10:53your being and with all your mind.
10:55This is the first and great command.
10:57And the second is like it.
10:59You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
11:02On these two commands hang all the Torah and prophets.
11:07This is something we're going to be reiterating probably just about every single episode in
11:11this Ten Commandments series.
11:13Here, Yeshua is pretty much summarizing the entirety of the Ten Commandments, where the first four
11:20are about how to love Yahweh are about how to love Yahweh and the last six are about how to love your neighbor.
11:27And here, Yeshua is stating the first command is to love Yahweh with all your heart and being or soul and mind.
11:35And the second is to love your neighbor as yourself.
11:39This is pretty much the encompassing of the Ten Commandments.
11:43It gets even spelled out more directly by Paul in his letter to the Romans, chapter 13, verse 9.
11:50For this, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness, you shall not covet.
11:58And if there is any other command, it is summed up in this word, you shall love your neighbor as yourself.
12:05So when Yeshua said, you shall love your neighbor as yourself, what was one of the ways he was referencing when he said to love your neighbor as yourself?
12:14Well, Paul here goes into detail.
12:17And one of the ways that you can love your neighbor as yourself is by not stealing.
12:23Simply allowing you to have that lollipop and not stealing it from you.
12:27That's a way of loving you.
12:29I mean, just simply refraining from taking it from you.
12:33That's a way of loving you.
12:35Now, I could ask you for it and you could give it to me.
12:38I could pay you for it.
12:40I could work for it.
12:42But stealing it is the opposite of loving your neighbor.
12:46So not stealing is a way of loving your neighbor.
12:51Theft violates the love for your neighbor.
12:54And when you violate the love for your neighbor and you don't love your neighbor, that has other implications like how you do or do not love Yahweh.
13:04We look at 1 John 5, verses 2 through 3.
13:08By this, we know that we love the children of Elohim.
13:12When we love Elohim and guard his commands.
13:15For this is the love for Elohim, that we guard his commands.
13:19And his commands are not heavy.
13:22They're not burdensome.
13:23The commandments.
13:25All the commandments.
13:25Not just the ten.
13:26But all of the commandments.
13:28And what is one of the commandments that Yahweh has given us?
13:32It's do not steal.
13:35So we know that we love Elohim when we follow his commandments.
13:39When we do not steal.
13:41That's a way to show Elohim or Yahweh that we love him.
13:46Because we're obeying his commandments.
13:49And by doing so, we're also loving our neighbor.
13:53We're loving the children of Elohim.
13:57Now, as you can see here on the screen, we can also boil this down even more.
14:01It says, theft violates the principle of loving one's neighbor and respecting Yahweh's sovereignty.
14:08Keep that in mind because we're going to get into some even more implications, especially on a personal level, about how theft relates between you and Yahweh.
14:19But theft really does violate the principle of loving your neighbor and, by extension, loving Elohim because it's breaking his command and, therefore, not loving Elohim, according to 1 John 5.
14:32Every act of theft is rebellion against the order that Yahweh has established.
14:38Obviously, you don't murder.
14:41That is part of the order that Yahweh has established.
14:43You do not commit adultery.
14:45That is part of the order that Yahweh has established.
14:48And it includes not stealing.
14:52That is also part of the order that Yahweh has established.
14:57It doesn't matter how much money you have.
15:00If someone else has 50 times more money than you, it does not make it okay to go and steal anything.
15:08Hopefully, people from the government are watching this as well.
15:12But, anyways, just because someone has more money than you does not make it okay to steal.
15:17It's never okay to steal for any reason.
15:20There's no okays here in Scripture.
15:23It just says, do not steal.
15:25Plain.
15:28Period.
15:29Very short.
15:30But understanding this, because we just saw, it's not just about taking tangible things.
15:35It's also about intangible things as well.
15:38It's also about loving your neighbor.
15:40It's also about loving Yahweh.
15:42So, it goes much, much deeper than just that one simple, quick, physical act.
15:47Implications of stealing go even further.
15:51Theft pretty much implies, well, you're making a statement when you steal stuff.
15:57And what are some of these statements that you're implying or that you're making?
16:02Well, theft implies pretty much that you're saying that, well, Yahweh has not given me enough.
16:07It's not being thankful for what you have.
16:10It's a sense of greed in reality that you're wanting more.
16:15You're not trusting in Yahweh to provide for you.
16:18And by stealing stuff, you're pretty much saying, well, Yahweh hasn't given me enough.
16:23And I don't know about you, but in my life, that has never been the case.
16:29Stealing also implies that you're pretty much saying, well, I must take for myself what it is that I've determined that Yahweh has denied me.
16:37As if you're owed something simply for sucking wind.
16:42No, you don't deserve anything just because you exist, okay?
16:46Go out, earn it, create it, make it, but don't steal it.
16:52And just because you don't have something doesn't mean that Yahweh has denied you.
16:57It could be delayed or it could be a good thing that you don't have it.
17:01But don't think that Yahweh just automatically denied whatever it is that you want and don't have.
17:08Trust in Yahweh.
17:10Be content with what you have and trust in Him.
17:15And finally, stealing or theft implies that you're pretty much saying, well, my needs and wants and desires justify breaking the Torah.
17:25Justify breaking the established order that Yahweh has put in place.
17:32And I hate to tell you, but you, me, us as humans, we're small and insignificant.
17:38And in the grand scheme of things, and our needs and our wants and our desires do not in any way trump the Torah.
17:49Yahweh's commands.
17:50Nothing trumps that.
17:53Yahweh's commands stand supreme.
17:55We cannot break those or do away with them.
17:57It's not okay to do that.
17:59That's called sin, by the way.
18:01That's what the Bible defines as sin.
18:04Breaking Yahweh's laws.
18:07Breaking Yahweh's commands.
18:09So when you steal, you broke the eighth commandment and therefore you have sinned.
18:15Obviously, right?
18:16And did you know that scripture even describes the possibility of stealing from Yahweh himself?
18:27Malachi chapter three, verses eight through nine.
18:30Would a man rob Elohim?
18:33Yet you are robbing me.
18:34But you said, and what have we robbed you?
18:39And the tithe and the offering.
18:41You have cursed me with a curse, for you are robbing me, this nation, all of it.
18:46In Proverbs chapter three, verses nine through ten.
18:49Esteem Yahweh with your goods and with the first fruits of all your increase.
18:54Then your storehouses shall be filled with plenty and your vats overflow with new wine.
18:59So what are some ways that you can actually rob Yahweh?
19:04Well, here it's got the tithes and the offerings.
19:07If you don't tithe or bring the offerings that you're supposed to be bringing, that 10%,
19:12even up to 30% that we've discussed in the tithe episode.
19:17If you don't bring those tithes and those offerings, you're pretty much robbing Yahweh
19:21because that's the kind of thing that allows the ministry of Yahweh to go on here on earth.
19:28Are we trusting him?
19:29Do we want his ministry and his work to continue here on earth?
19:32Well, yeah, he's all powerful.
19:34He can do things here on earth that he wants to do, but he also uses people.
19:38And those people need various funds and tithes and offerings.
19:43So in essence, you're robbing Yahweh when you hold back your tithes and your offerings.
19:50What are some other things?
19:51I didn't include it here, but there's another section in scripture.
19:54If you'll remember, I forget the exact verse, but it talks about not keeping the Sabbaths
20:00like they should have.
20:02So he sends them into exile and lets the land rest for all those number of Sabbaths that
20:08it should have been resting before.
20:09So the people robbed the land.
20:11They robbed Yahweh of these Sabbaths.
20:14And so he made up for it.
20:17But yeah, in a sense, you can actually rob Yahweh.
20:21We can rob Yahweh through withholding our tithes and offerings like we discussed earlier,
20:26refusing to devote our time or our talents to his work.
20:30You don't have to be a teacher or a minister or a missionary to provide and do work for Yahweh.
20:39You can do it every single day that you get up, regardless of your occupation.
20:44When you go to work, when you're out in society, you can devote time and talent and work for
20:52him.
20:53You can talk to other people about Yahweh.
20:54You can bring people closer to him.
20:56You can actually talk with other people about various doctrines and things from scripture
21:02and bring them closer to Yahweh's word, which brings them closer to Yahweh.
21:08So you can devote time and talent, your talents and your work, regardless of what your occupation
21:13or your day-to-day work kind of is.
21:16And one can also rob Yahweh through claiming glory that belongs to him alone.
21:23This gets deep and really gets heated when we're talking about things like the subjects
21:28of the Godhead and stuff like that.
21:29So we won't get into really deep on this.
21:31But anyone who claims glory that belongs to Yahweh himself, that's trying to rob Yahweh
21:40of his glory.
21:42And sometimes it actually does because it confuses people and takes that worship away from him.
21:47Do not claim glory that belongs to Yahweh alone.
21:50Not good stuff.
21:52Very, very not good stuff.
21:53So let's go on and move into some scriptural examples here.
21:58We mentioned a couple of them just in passing earlier.
22:00But let's go ahead and look at them for ourselves in black and white.
22:05First up, Genesis chapter 31, verse 19.
22:09And when Laban had gone to shear his sheep, Rahel stole the house idols that were her father's.
22:16So y'all probably know this story pretty by heart.
22:20But here, Rachel steals the idols from her father Laban as they're leaving with Jacob to
22:27go back to his land, right?
22:28This is direct stealing.
22:30It's the stealing that we all think about.
22:33It's taking of a tangible object from someone else that doesn't belong to them.
22:38Rachel stole the idols that were Laban's.
22:41Judges chapter 17, verses 1 through 2.
22:44And there was a man from the hill country of Ephraim, whose name was Mikahu.
22:49And he said to his mother, the eleven hundred pieces of silver that were taken from you and
22:55on which you put a curse, even saying it in my ears.
22:59Look, the silver is mine.
23:01I took it.
23:02And his mother said, blessed of Yahweh be my son.
23:06So here you got a mother and a son.
23:08And the son took his mother's silver.
23:11Sounds like a lot of silver, eleven hundred pieces.
23:14But the son took his mother's silver and he admits to it and gives the silver back to his mother.
23:21But here's another example of theft.
23:23This is a direct taking of a tangible thing that doesn't belong to you and it's not yours.
23:30Again, Joshua chapter 7, verse 1.
23:35But the children of Israel committed a trespass regarding that which is under the ban.
23:40For Akon, son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Yehudah,
23:46took of that which is under the ban.
23:48And the displeasure of Yahweh burned against the children of Israel.
23:53Now, skipping on down to verse 20 of Joshua chapter 7.
23:57So Akon answered Yehoshua and said,
24:01Truly I have sinned against Yahweh Elohim of Israel, and this is what I did.
24:06When I saw among the spoil a lovely garment from Shinar and two hundred shekels of silver
24:11and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels,
24:14I coveted them and took them.
24:16And see, they are hidden in the ground in the midst of my tent with the silver under it.
24:21Now, in this example, this guy, they were supposed to do away with all that, right?
24:25But he didn't. He saw it and he took some stuff for himself.
24:28He stole that which he did not have the right to.
24:33Now, to his credit, he comes forward and he admits it to Joshua,
24:39who is leading at this point because Moses has already died.
24:43So Joshua is the leader, the mediator at that point.
24:47And he admits to Joshua what he's done.
24:49What I don't have in here, this is an example of the stealing,
24:52but later on, even though he admitted to it and fessed up,
24:55they still took him and all this stuff and stoned him to death.
25:00Then they burnt him and all this stuff and then covered everything with rocks.
25:05So just because you fess up to a theft, which you should do,
25:09it doesn't mean you're going to escape the punishment.
25:12But this is another example of physically taking tangible objects that you really shouldn't
25:19because it's not yours and you have no right to it.
25:22This is a pretty extreme example in scripture.
25:26Then going on to Joshua chapter 7, verse 25.
25:30Oh, here it is.
25:32And Joshua said, Why have you troubled us?
25:34Yahweh does trouble you today.
25:36Then all Israel stoned him with stones,
25:38and they burned them with fire after they had stoned them with stones.
25:41But yeah, that's where they took Akan, even though he fessed up,
25:45and they stoned him, and then they burned him,
25:47and they piled lots of rocks on top of him.
25:50Now moving on to some biblical examples of financial deception or theft.
25:58Genesis chapter 31, verse 7.
26:01Yet your father has deceived me and changed my wages ten times,
26:05but Elohim did not allow him to do evil to me.
26:09Now here in this example, some of you probably already know what this story is,
26:13but this is Jacob talking to Rachel about Laban.
26:18And he's telling Rachel that your father, Laban, has changed my wages ten times.
26:23So Laban promised Jacob something for the work he did,
26:27and then he didn't give it to Jacob.
26:29Remember?
26:30Jacob ended up with multiple wives when he really just was trying to work for one.
26:36But Laban changed his wages ten times,
26:40and each time he did that, that's like theft,
26:42because he wasn't trying to make good on his promise that he told to Jacob.
26:48So that's more of like a financial theft or financial deception.
26:53James chapter 5, verse 4.
26:56This is talking about the rich people.
26:58See, the wages of the workmen who mowed your field,
27:01which you kept back, cry out.
27:03And the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of Yahweh of hosts.
27:07So again, taking the wages of the workers is theft,
27:13because they earned it,
27:15and once they earned it, that money is technically theirs.
27:18Even though you still have a hold of it,
27:19it's technically theirs, and by keeping it, that is theft.
27:24So more of an intangible kind of theft and stealing.
27:28Micah chapter 6, verse 10.
27:31Are there still treasures of wrongness in the house of the wrong,
27:35and the short measure that is an abomination?
27:37Would I be innocent with wrong scales and with a bag of false weights?
27:41Proverbs chapter 11, verse 1.
27:44A false scale is an abomination to Yahweh,
27:46but a perfect weight is his delight.
27:50So here, back in a time when they measured things out,
27:54like gold and silver and frankincense, stuff like that,
28:00they would use weights to tell how much it weighed
28:02and then pay by the weight.
28:04Now, if they used false weights or differing weights for different people,
28:07that would be scamming some people
28:09and giving somebody else a good deal.
28:13But that's a form of theft,
28:15a form of financial deception, financial theft,
28:20more of a kind of intangible thing.
28:22See how this stealing goes much more beyond
28:25just the taking of what you can see and hold in your hand.
28:30But using differing measures and weights
28:33is an abomination to Yahweh.
28:36Now, going on to some more examples.
28:40Genesis chapter 37, verse 28.
28:44And men, Midianite traders, passed by,
28:46so they pulled Yosef up and lifted him out of the pit
28:49and sold him to the Ishmaelites for 20 pieces of silver.
28:54And they took Yosef to Mitzrayim.
28:57Now, here we can see we're looking at kidnapping or human trafficking.
29:03And this is a form of theft as well.
29:07You'll see some more examples here in a minute.
29:09But human trafficking, taking someone against their will
29:12and then selling them for your own profit.
29:14You do not have the right to that other person.
29:18And if you don't have the right to them,
29:20you don't have the right to sell them
29:21and make money for your own personal gain.
29:23So human trafficking is a form of theft.
29:26We look at Exodus chapter 21, verse 16.
29:30And he who kidnaps a man and sells him,
29:33or if he is found in his hand,
29:35shall certainly be put to death.
29:38Now, keep this in mind because this form of theft
29:42deserves the death penalty.
29:46Other forms that were like financial,
29:49stuff like that,
29:49they required for punishment a restitution.
29:53Giving back the amount that you took plus extra.
29:56But when it comes to the theft of a human being,
30:00that punishment is the death penalty.
30:04Now, this does not include slavery.
30:07This is just kidnapping and human trafficking.
30:10Slavery is a different subject
30:12that we're actually going to have two dedicated episodes
30:15to coming up here soon.
30:17But this does not include slavery.
30:19So here when it talks about
30:20he who kidnaps a man and sells him,
30:23this is not talking about slavery.
30:24This is just talking about grabbing someone randomly
30:27and then selling them to get you some money in your pocket.
30:32Deuteronomy chapter 24, verse 7.
30:34When a man is found kidnapping any of his brothers
30:37of the children of Israel
30:38and treats him harshly or sells him,
30:42then that kidnapper shall die.
30:45Thus you shall purge the evil from your midst.
30:48So slavery, like I said, is a different thing.
30:52But kidnapping, that requires, or that,
30:57how should I put this?
30:59That incurs the death penalty
31:01as far as punishments go.
31:04But theft is a very serious thing.
31:06Even when it's not the death penalty kind of theft,
31:10even when it's just the,
31:12oh, how should I say this?
31:14Even when it's the tangible financial thing,
31:19we can see it and grab it and feel it.
31:21Even when it's just something like that,
31:22you think is a very small thing.
31:25Death is still a big deal.
31:28And it's such a big deal in the eyes of Scripture.
31:31It's still such a big deal in the eyes of Yahweh
31:33that we go on and look at the letter to the Corinthians
31:36when Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 6, verses 9-10.
31:41Do you not know that the unrighteous
31:43shall not inherit the reign of Elohim?
31:46Do not be deceived.
31:47Neither those who whore, nor idolaters, nor adulterers,
31:50nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves,
31:54nor greedy of gain, nor drunkards, nor revelers,
31:58nor swindlers, shall inherit the reign of Elohim.
32:03John Herod, the kingdom of God.
32:06So, with all these other people,
32:09these total and utterly horrid and horrendous abominations
32:15of sinful people like the effeminate,
32:17like the adulterers, like the homosexuals,
32:20the idolaters, the whores, the drunkards,
32:23amidst all these,
32:24these are included in this list
32:27as part of the people
32:29that will not inherit the reign of God,
32:33the reign of Yahweh.
32:35That's pretty serious.
32:37And another example,
32:39I should have put it in here,
32:40but you know the story fairly well.
32:43Another example of stealing
32:44is when someone steals a spouse,
32:48not just grabbing them up against their will
32:49and taking them away.
32:51No, what I'm talking about here
32:52is the example of David and Bathsheba and Uriah.
32:56David saw Bathsheba,
32:59and he was attracted to her,
33:00and he wanted her.
33:01So, he sent his people out to get her,
33:03and then he did what he wanted to do,
33:06and she ended up pregnant,
33:08and he ended up stealing her away from Uriah
33:11by killing Uriah.
33:14So, this wasn't gold that he stole.
33:16This wasn't a horse that he stole.
33:19This was a human being
33:21who, as far as I can tell,
33:23Bathsheba was complicit in the entire matter.
33:26But David stole Bathsheba from Uriah.
33:30So, that was a theft.
33:32He committed adultery,
33:33and he committed murder.
33:35But even through all of these,
33:38even if you've committed
33:40some of these heinous and abominable acts,
33:43even if you have stolen,
33:44even if you are a thief like David,
33:48there is a chance for forgiveness
33:52and repentance.
33:54Come to Yahweh.
33:55Come to Yeshua.
33:57Be forgiven.
33:58No longer be a thief.
33:59Have that washed away from you
34:01so that you can inherit the reign of Yahweh,
34:05so that you can be there with us
34:06in the end times.
34:08It would be awesome.
34:10Even if you've done this stuff before,
34:12you can be forgiven for it,
34:14and I highly advise you to do so,
34:17to turn away from these evil
34:20and sinful ways of doing things
34:23and go towards the right way of doing things.
34:26In this context,
34:27according to this teaching,
34:29turn away from thieving and stealing,
34:31and instead go towards working
34:33for what you have,
34:35working for what you get,
34:36so that you can provide for yourself,
34:38so you can trust in Yahweh,
34:39and even have extra to give to other people.
34:44In summary,
34:45the command straight up and straightforward,
34:49just as a reminder,
34:50is do not steal,
34:52or thou shalt not steal.
34:54The Hebrew word here for steal
34:56is Strong's H1589,
34:59ghanav, ghanav.
35:03Stealing can involve many things,
35:05including tangible objects,
35:07but stealing can involve direct theft,
35:09I'm sorry, direct theft,
35:12meaning physically taking things,
35:14like if I took a lollipop from you,
35:15that's physical and direct theft.
35:17Kidnapping or human trafficking,
35:19we went over that,
35:21and once again,
35:22human trafficking and kidnapping,
35:23according to scripture,
35:25is a different thing than slavery,
35:27which we'll go over here
35:28in a future episode coming up soon.
35:33Theft and stealing
35:34can also involve fraud and deception,
35:37things that are more intangible,
35:39like financial deception or financial theft,
35:42using false weights and measures,
35:44dishonest wages,
35:45or even withholding wages.
35:47You can actually also rob Yahweh,
35:50and how can you rob Yahweh?
35:51By withholding your tithes,
35:53your offerings,
35:54you're devoting your time,
35:56and your talents,
35:56and things that he has gifted you with.
35:58Stealing and theft can also involve
36:03things like stealing honor or loyalty,
36:06destroying someone's character,
36:08such as the example of Joseph and Potiphar's wife,
36:11because remember,
36:13Potiphar's wife,
36:14she wanted Joseph to lay with her, right?
36:18He wouldn't do it,
36:19so she falsely accused him,
36:20and pretty much accused him of rape,
36:22and that's what got him thrown into the dungeon.
36:26She stole his reputation
36:28by accusing him of rape.
36:31She stole his reputation,
36:32so that is an intangible type of theft there.
36:36Theft disrupts the human relationships
36:39and dishonors Yahweh.
36:41We went over that before.
36:42The first commandment,
36:43love Yahweh with all your heart and soul and being,
36:46and the second is like it,
36:47love your neighbor as yourself.
36:49So, if you steal or you thieve,
36:54you are not loving your neighbor,
36:56and you are not honoring the way
36:58that Yahweh has set up and established.
37:02Thieves will not enter the kingdom of heaven.
37:05So, if you are still a thief,
37:06and you have not been forgiven,
37:08you have not repented of your thieving,
37:10and you're still a thief,
37:12you will not see the kingdom of God,
37:14the kingdom of heaven.
37:15I highly, once again,
37:17advise you to repent,
37:20turn from your ways,
37:21and be cleansed of this sin.
37:25And not stealing is one way
37:27to love your neighbor as yourself.
37:30Remember, we went over that passage
37:32from Romans chapter 13, verse 9.
37:35We're listed out of all those,
37:36including murder and adultery
37:37and stuff like that,
37:38but it says,
37:39do not steal,
37:39and this is how you love your neighbor.
37:43And that's just the God honest truth.
