00:01The Anti-Political Dynasty Bill is now one of the LEDAC priority measures under the administration of President Ferdinand R.
00:08Marcos Jr.
00:10Because of this, the Senate is continuing its series of public consultations to gather feedback on the proposal.
00:16During a visit to Bacolod City by the Committee on Electoral Reforms and People's Participation,
00:22Chairperson Sen. Teresa Honteveros expressed confidence that the bill will be passed.
00:27In fact, the Senate aims to have the measure approved before the end of March.
00:32It will be passed po. Intensyon namin maipasa ito this session so bago matapos ang buwan ng Marso.
00:39Residents of Bacolod City have voiced their support to the move.
00:43Even the son of the President, si Sandro Marcos, kagsang aton nga Speaker of the House,
00:50nanggadusugid si Ne. In short, short of saying that the message of Malacanang is clear.
00:57That this bill must be passed within the year.
01:01Senator Risa Honteveros is proposing that the restrictions extend to the fourth degree of consanguinity,
01:07which would cover first cousins, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and great-grandchildren.
01:13However, she says she is willing to compromise to ensure the law gets passed.
01:18Ang sa akin lang, whatever will be our final form, yung tingin kong dapat or ideal na fourth degree
01:26or maaring sa mas marami sa kuligs ko, mas practical or mas reasonable at this point in time,
01:35third degree or second degree.
01:36Basta ang importante sa akin, magkaroon kami ng batas na impactful, may kwenta.
01:45Hindi isang lei na walang kwenta.
01:48Bacolod locals also backed the Senators' proposal.
02:09However, some students asked the Senator how the bill could possibly pass
02:14when there are dynasts currently serving together in the Senate.
02:17Sen. Risa responded by noting that she is already gaining support from some of her fellow lawmakers.
02:24I can't say yet na optimistic ako, but definitely I'm not pessimistic
02:30sa chances ng isang anti-political dynasty bill in this 20th Congress.
02:35Sa walo na dynasts sa Senate, dalawa ay authors ng anti-political dynasty bills.
02:44Senators J.V. and Irwin.
02:47And sila yung kinento ko sa inyo kanina na nung committee hearing,
02:51sabi nila kahit member ako sa dynasty, gusto kong buksan ang political space sa lahat ng mamamayan.
02:59Luisa Erispe from the National TV Network for a new and better Philippines.
