00:00Let's start off with Team USA making their men's hockey debut in this Olympic Games.
00:06They got a Latvian team that had been a problem for powers in the past.
00:10All right, Latvia, and in fact, Latvia won a bronze medal against the United States
00:15before. Latvia beaten Canada before in international tournaments.
00:20And basically, Latvia give up like 100 shots and hang on for dear life. And
00:25speaking of hanging on for dear life, so we spoke a lot about this game over the last couple of
00:29days. And I said, you know, the USA are favored by three and a half. You know, I think they're
00:34going to win by three or four. I think the number is kind of like the number is is bang
00:39on. But I
00:40said, I think the way to go, because I don't think Latvia are going to be able to score much
00:43is the under six and a half. Well, basically, it was one one after a couple of minutes in this
00:49game
00:49and the US had two goals turned back in the first period. Two. All right, two. One of them was
00:57like
00:57a very bad goalie interference call. But in international play, you cannot go in the
01:02crease. So just point blank. It's different. It's not the NHL. So that wasn't a bad call by the rules.
01:07It was it was what it was. And in fact, it was an NHL referee that was actually doing a
01:13game today.
01:13So you can't blame all the Euros and they're soft and they don't call the game the right way.
01:17It was an NHL referee, although he was working with international with European refs, with the
01:24international league refs and stuff. And some people sort of had a theory that, you know what,
01:32I'm not going to die on this hill in the first game. Right. Like the NHL refs are going to
01:36take
01:36over as it goes on and call it more the way they want it. But it is in the national
01:41tournament.
01:41It's not the NHL. So the rules are different. So long story short, anybody that had the over
01:47six and a half today in the US game, and I know our boy George Kurtz did, and amongst
01:52many others, anybody that had the over, I don't like the term bad beat. That was a bad
01:59beat. Like that was a bad beat. Like I've been watching hockey for whatever. I don't even
02:04want to admit how long I've been watching hockey for, but a long time. And like that was one
02:11of those games today where I had the under six and a half and I'm like, there's no way in
02:15hell. Like the in-game total was like nine and a half at one point. Right. I'm like, there's no
02:19way in hell this is going to happen for us. And it was just sort of like disallowed goal. USA
02:26scored
02:26very good call by the Lafayette coach. He's like, yeah, you're offside. So he challenges the goal
02:31and he's right. USA score again, a couple of minutes later, he challenges again. He says, yeah,
02:37goalie interference. He was right again. So it was like, and then the US got frustrated
02:43because they were dominating the man. It was all like the sweet Italy game. Like the
02:47US is like out shooting him like 24 to six type thing. And it's one, one. And you can
02:53get frustrated when that happens. And the more the game was going on, the more Latvia was
02:57getting into it and they weren't getting dominated anymore. And, and, and then finally the dam
03:03had to break, right? Finally, the US started to score some goals and it looked like, oh yeah,
03:08this total is doomed. If you're on the under, I had the under and somehow miraculously the game
03:13stays under the number. Um, Canada stayed under the number today as well. So Canada opened up
03:20with a tougher opponent. Like the USA got Latvia with all due respect to Latvia. They're scrappy
03:25and stuff, but it's Latvia, right? Like it's, they are, you know what I mean? One of the,
03:31in fact, they're like the third lowest ranked team as far as the rankings are concerned coming
03:35into this tournament. So listen, USA got a cupcake group, but they handle their business. And I'll tell
03:41you what, my thoughts about the US team, very fast, very fast, a little chaotic at times,
03:48I think, but the speed of the US team is something like for real that that is what they're going
03:55to
03:55hang their hat on. Like if you're playing the team USA, you better be able to skate because these dudes
04:00are flying around. The line with the Kachuk brothers and Jack Eichel is very impressive
04:06and they caused havoc. You know what I mean? Like you thought that they would, although I would split
04:11them up personally, but it is a great line. Now, Canada, on the other hand, got the Czech Republic
04:16who are good, right? Czechia are like a legitimate team where I think I have a chance of making the
04:21podium and Canada just dominated them, right? So it's basically put it this way, almost in like
04:28college football terms, the USA are like a powerhouse that just opened up and played Eastern Michigan.
04:36Canada are a powerhouse and just opened up and played Oklahoma. You know what I mean? Like Canada
04:42was, you know, five, nothing against the Czech Republic is more impressive than five, one against
04:46Lafayette. Not that it matters, but goal differential does matter in this tournament as far as seating
04:51is concerned as you go on. So, but Canada today, I got to tell you, like scared, the level of
04:57hockey
04:58is being played. Like if you're not really into the NHL, you should watch this and you will enjoy it.
05:06Like it's a different level of hockey. Like the NHL, basically there's like six really good guys on,
05:12on each team. And in the Olympics, like every guy is good. Like it's just, it's next level. It's
05:18something to behold. And we all knew it was going to be a great tournament, but we're only two days
05:23in
05:24and we really haven't had any real matchups yet. It's going to get real, man. It's going to be fun
05:28over the next week and a half watching, betting and talking men's hockey.
