00:00There was a lot of wonder as to what the Knicks would do in the buyout market, and they have
00:04got their guy signing Jeremy Sohan, formerly played, was just released by the Spurs, now will be a New York
00:11Knick, the Knicks signing him to a veteran minimums contract for the rest of the season, and when you look
00:17at this move and how this was made, you really have to look at this as part of the trade
00:20deadline.
00:21Leon Rose did a fantastic job getting off of Gershon Yabusele, who was not a good fit here in New
00:27York, trading him in essentially two second rounders, and now the Knicks have landed Jose Alvarado and Jeremy Sohan, so
00:33they took a player who was basically out of the rotation, not playing, not contributing, not a good fit, and
00:39they added two guys that bring you a lot of intensity, some physicality, they give you a bit of a
00:44defensive identity that the team can like and plug and play with them in.
00:48Now, Jeremy Sohan, very interesting player for the Knicks here, he's a 22-year-old who is an athletic wing,
00:56he can play the three, he can play the four, he's been used as a point guard early in his
01:00career with the Spurs, that didn't work out so well, but when you look at his career and what he
01:05can bring you on the defensive end, along with a little bit of scoring, not a great offensive player, he
01:10played 212 games for the Spurs, he averaged just over 10 points, just under 6 rebounds there in about 25
01:17minutes a game,
01:18so you like what he's able to give you there, and now you wonder, okay, where does he fit in
01:23with this Knicks group? Look, buyout market guys, when you look at them, they're just there to add some depth,
01:29and the Knicks are a very deep team, and now Mike Brown has another option that he can plug and
01:33play.
01:33I can see Jeremy Sohan being used to, in spot minutes maybe, in talking about deep past the regular season,
01:40just looking at the playoffs, can you use him to throw on for a couple of minutes on a Cade
01:44Cunningham to give a different look?
01:46Can you throw him on a Tyrese Maxey to slow him down? Bigger guards, James Harden if you see him
01:51in the playoffs. These are now options that the Knicks have that they can use where they add another wing
01:57who's got some size, who is a good defender, and I think the Knicks are feeling really good about adding
02:03Sohan as another piece who can give you some intensity on the defensive end, and we've already seen what Jose
02:08Alvarado can do in his three games as a New York Knicks.
02:11So I like this move for the Knicks, and I think it's one, like I said, you have to look
02:14at in totality and judge Leon Rose and what he was able to do with the deadline, and the most
02:19important thing with that too is how the Knicks were able to add Jeremy Sohan early into the buyout market
02:26because the flexibility that they got from moving off of Gershon Yabusele gave them enough room to get to below
02:32the second apron, to stay below the second apron, gave them a little bit more wiggle room so they were
02:37able to sign Jeremy Sohan to this veteran minimums deal and still remain.
02:41Under the second apron, so it's a really good piece of work by Leon Rose. Look, we'll see how it
02:47works. Do we buy out guys? Are they generally huge difference makers? No, sometimes not that, but this is adding
02:54a depth piece.
02:55The Knicks could have used a little bit more size, particularly on the wing, especially with OG and Inobi out.
03:00I think the interesting question among Knicks fans is going to be, okay, where are the minutes coming from for
03:06Jeremy Sohan?
03:07Is he going to have to earn them? How is that going to take time? Is this going to cut
03:11into Mo Diawara's minutes? Diawara's been playing really well as a wing off the bench for the Knicks. You even
03:16saw him play very good defensively against Boston on Sunday.
03:20Had some great minutes defending Jalen Brown, so you like the progress you've seen from Mo Diawara. Does Jeremy Sohan
03:25cut into his minutes? Does this take minutes from Jordan Clarkson away?
03:29How is Mike Brown going to use it? Those are all going to be interesting things to watch with the
03:33Knicks once they return to play following the All-Star break, but make no move about it.
03:38You don't want to get too crazy about picking up a guy in the ballot market, but you like that
03:42the Knicks added depth. They added some size. They added some defensive intensity, and I think it's really important to
03:47pay attention to that.
03:48And the two players they've added now to deadline and past the deadline, and those players have a bit of
03:53moxie to them. They have a little bit of defensive intensity that we know the Knicks fans like to see,
03:58and I think the Knicks like too.
03:59And now it just adds, as I said before, a bit more versatility for this team. So Jeremy Sohan, 22
04:05-year-old, versatile wing, very good defender that I think the Knicks will like, and Knicks fans will like too,
04:10seeing him in a Knicks uniform.
04:12So the Knicks making some moves, making an addition here on the buyout market.
