00:15what's up everybody we are back with another edition of new york out game dexter henry brian
00:19fonseca basketball is back not officially with gabe's calendar court but we are back training
00:26camp is active next couple days in so we've got to record next week pre-season game starts are you
00:32excited for some pre-season basketball brian not really those are words nobody's ever said
00:37wmb the wmb playoffs are on mlb playoffs are on the nba pre-season is like the players don't even
00:44want to play i don't believe you you're somebody who gets into all these international competitions
00:49and you're out here telling me you're not excited for nba pre-season speaking of euro league is
00:54starting the domestic leagues like there's actual consequential basketball starting as opposed to
01:01the pre-season i'll watch it because it's our job but there's far more interesting things going on
01:06right now across sports i tried to get you this out here i opened the door not to mention not
01:11right
01:11through not to mention football for people who indulge also and hockey just started regular season
01:17hockey just started this week yeah i actually been watching some international soccer in alaska last
01:21week yeah yeah i'm at the point where i'm like damn i i love like international play obviously but
01:27like i'm like where's club soccer i miss it you know what i mean we need we need another it's
01:33another
01:33like week and a half until we're back i can't wait then my team comes back back and they get
01:37to play
01:37that team that was cheating so we're gonna yeah can't wait for that um well more than that anyway
01:43we're here to talk about the knicks who like we said are in the middle of training camp couple of
01:47days in and what we want to do because brian loves the pre-season so much we are gonna talk
01:53about our top three things that we should watch with the knicks this pre-season so brian has his
01:58three i have my three we did not talk about this at all other than the idea for the episode
02:02i suspect
02:03we're gonna have overlap i'd be surprised if we didn't have overlap i think we'll have overlap i have
02:07a feeling our top answers might be overlap which okay yeah and i so i've ranked this i'm going from
02:13three to one you know what i'm watching for in terms of importance i'm gonna let you tip things
02:17are you going least important to most important or i'm going least important to most important
02:21okay least important to most important number one is the most important thing that i'm watching this
02:26pre-season okay that's how i'm going number three is is the least of i think they're all important
02:30just to be clear people yeah but there's a clear drop off for me like yeah i i i wonder
02:37if i want
02:38is the same let me start what do you have for number three let's start with that what do you
02:40have
02:40for number three who emerges from the non-guaranteed pack so this is basically james wiseman
02:46ochai abaji uh formerly john conchar who is no longer on the team for the time being we'll see
02:52what happens there bruce brown drew eubanks the those those kinds of dudes and to see who emerges
02:58from that from a boy oh you forgot about your boy you didn't even name your boy who's my boy
03:02tony bradley tony bradley yes newly listen listen if you are truly a friend of got game
03:09you know you know we love tony bradley over here the we is strong there but yeah fine um
03:19but yeah it's like who emerges from that because if you're looking at the roster right now
03:24you have a lot of spots obviously taken not all of them like there are multiple spots potentially
03:31potentially to be had depending on how the knicks want to utilize and fill out their roster a lot of
03:35teams like to have a available roster spot um you know that 15th slot you know vacant and try to
03:42use
03:42it later some of it is financial reasons i think a majority of it is financial reasons but just to
03:48have that added flexibility you never know what you're going to need to make a trade also and you
03:52need that spot but like brunson's in cat og hard bridges so on and so forth all the way down
03:57also new
03:58two-way by the way with atkins now in the fold from michigan state who could shoot although struggled
04:03from three of his last season at michigan state and kevin mcculler is back and then nickel as expected
04:09he's a two-way guy but from this group it's all veterans all veterans so i'm already intrigued it's
04:16like okay you're aiming for somebody who's going to know their role and for somebody who's probably
04:22not going to play a ton unless they really earn it or break in case of emergency situations
04:27james wiseman has the most upside of this group i think bruce brown is clearly the best player of
04:32this group then there's a drop off i agree um abagi is interesting drew eubanks is pretty interesting
04:37but they're i think the floor is a little bit lower there potentially and then the tony bradley wrinkle
04:44like i'm legitimately intrigued by it not because as we would joke get your pension tony you know
04:51what i'm saying he's getting going into year 10 there's a lot of look tony bradley's not coming
04:55to play around there's a pension on the line if he could if he service time you know what i
05:00mean
05:00like he he's been in the league for a while but we've legitimately seen tony bradley against the
05:05knicks in back-to-back years because he was on the pacers team that beat the knicks in the conference
05:10finals and went to the finals uh two years ago or two seasons ago and then this past season he
05:15was on
05:16the atlanta hawks team in both cases a breaking breaking case of emergency situation at center
05:21and is trusted by coaches when he's on the roster like we know we can go to you and i
05:26think for
05:27mike brown that's interesting there i don't think he's more talented than james wiseman at all i'm not
05:33telling you he's better than andre drummond but i think that battle between him and wiseman because
05:38that's really what it is that battle between him and wiseman is interesting because wiseman has all
05:42the potential wiseman also has a lot of recent injury history that he has to try to get over
05:46but with tony bradley i think that there's somebody who can come in rebounds knows where he needs to be
05:53on defense cassette screens not the most laterally quick as we've seen in the playoffs but can can fill
05:59a need for eight to ten minutes like that that's kind of what you're looking for in that spot
06:02wiseman is the one who you're like okay outperformed this and then bruce brown to me is like clearly
06:07like clearly should be an on an nba roster i question the fit with this team i feel like
06:12if he's gonna have a pathway to minutes you might need to shuffle around some things a little bit
06:16on the bench they don't shuffle around anything yeah so and i thought that would have been the
06:22case to a lesser degree with john conchar but also with john conchar so that that battle of like all
06:27these veterans on non-guaranteed deals who emerges from that and i think competition is great with young
06:33players i think it's equally great for veterans because these guys are all effectively competing for
06:38their careers if a guy who's been in the league for years is taking a non-guarantee to compete
06:43that's a good thing for the knicks because you'll get the best out of everybody there you would think
06:47yeah it should be interesting i do think that's something interesting to watch it's not a place i
06:51went but i do think it's a very interesting thing to watch i am very intrigued i will say this
06:55to your
06:56point because i'm so intrigued as to what the knicks are going to do are i do agree with you
07:01the best
07:01player out of that group is bruce brown yeah but it feels like the roster for more balanced purposes
07:09needs a center and will it go with the center and what if james assuming they only they might not
07:15they might not only sign one if they sign two and somebody else is like that's the thing it's still
07:20a possibility if they really like two they can do that like adadie who we've talked about already
07:24before i wonder what happens if we are two games into the preseason and we're hearing good things
07:29coming out of camp and we're talking to bondi we're talking to jared schwartz and they're like hey
07:34well you're hearing from coach brown himself where he's like look we like what we're seeing out of
07:37i'm just going to insert person wiseman and bruce brown and then we're all chai obagi who i think
07:43is being slept on a little bit yeah and we're seeing it on the court yeah in the minutes because
07:47the thing that steph has told me and he talked about this with me on media day is don't expect
07:52the
07:52stars to play a lot in the preseason of course that's a short summer yes this is not going to
07:56happen a lot
07:57so you're going to see there's going to be plenty of opportunities what i'm saying for these guys
08:00that are competing to actually get a shot it's going to be like an nfl preseason for them so
08:06i think you know a couple weeks ago you asked me to re-rank when we when the nixon made
08:10all those
08:10signings and you were like yo where you rank the guys and i had wiseman low wiseman's moved up for
08:15me now yeah yeah i had him higher than you did yeah you did and now i'm like because i
08:20could see the
08:21pathway if he plays well right because of his youth and if he especially if he looks competent
08:27defensively because that's the thing for me the ceiling of him challenges andre drummond for that
08:31backup spot right and even if he challenges andre drummond for the backup spot but andre drummond
08:35exits out of camp and preseason still in the number two role which i think he will and if the
08:40nicks keep
08:40him on the roster keeping wiseman that is i do think that could be a good thing for them where
08:45they can
08:45say okay we have a young center that we can develop along and maybe feel good about and this is
08:52what
08:52they were trying to do when they're trying to get moves to cise and all that stuff and maybe it
08:57makes
08:57you feel a little bit more comfortable if injury happens yeah i think if you're a nick fan you'd like
09:03to feel a little more comfortable center so i'm really watching how the center battle is coming out
09:07and i'm watching how a guy like you said like bruce brown who i agree with you should be on
09:11an nba
09:11roster is sort of i don't want to say fighting for his career with him that might be a little
09:15bit
09:16dramatic there i mean if you're taking a non-guarantee but you kind of are right you know
09:19yeah you you all of these dudes and this goes for a lot of veterans across the league even guys
09:25on contracts who took part of the mid-level you're one subpar year away from being in europe
09:30yeah or injury beat from being in lithuania or you are a couple of good years or one good year
09:37for being landry shaman right right exactly this is the other way it can work out for you so
09:41it's kind of interesting to see all right that's a good number three here's my number three
09:46what are the new wrinkles to mike brown's offense now did not have this no overlap so far no overlap
09:52so far now mike brown talked about this day one of training camp that and he was asked about will
09:56cat still be the hub of the offense will they still run the offense to cat i did not think
10:00that
10:01he was going to go away from it now you and i talked about this i believe on the last
10:04episode
10:04that we did expect to see some wrinkles this was not going to look the same teams adjust
10:11teams the opposition i mean adjust and teams who do certain things offensively are always going to
10:15make tweets you got to have counters to the counters this is what you have to do the other thing
10:20that
10:20mike brown talked about was we could see a little bit of og at the five playing some backup five
10:26now
10:26there's a couple you kind of have to you do but there's a couple things there it makes me tell
10:31you
10:31how the knicks probably feel about their backup five situation and also but to give credit to
10:35mike brown which we saw last year he is willing to be flexible depending on lineups depending on
10:41matchups depending on availability all that stuff so i think that's what you want to see and i think
10:46this regular season is a fantastic time for the knicks to experiment with that to try that line up
10:54more see what it is with og there now we know we saw some of it in the playoffs we
10:58should add to
10:59there were times they went with og at the five and had him play small og held his own against
11:04bigger players some stronger players so i'm intrigued to see that mike brown also did talk
11:08about more pick and roll opportunities for og and anobi that's something i'm also intrigued to see
11:13how does og look in that can he make quick decisions with that we talked about when we did
11:19episode i remember when this was this was july or something about maybe one of the next evolutions
11:22to his game how players could improve yeah and he was somebody i said okay if he's a little
11:27quicker with his decision making if he builds on what we saw from him in the playoffs that could
11:31be better so it shows me mike brown might be trusting at least for now og a little bit more
11:37to put the ball in his hands and give him some opportunities and pick and roll situations and
11:41see how he handles it so my thing is what are the new wrinkles to the offense og playing some
11:47backup
11:47five how does it all look more diverse that's something i want to see in the preseason the backup
11:52five thing is interesting because you think about how that matches up with other teams in the
11:56eastern conference in their front court now granted look he's not going to start at five
11:59it would only be but so many minutes yeah but the stints would be interesting because you have like
12:05in cleveland you have two bigs now i know who um one of them is more tall than big some
12:10would argue
12:10both but i would say yeah evan mobley for sure um who who did have a good year last year
12:16but still
12:17uh cleveland toronto obviously like they i mean they want to do the same thing with column or
12:23collimary boils probably coming off the bench um so that like that's an interesting sort of matchup
12:28there if those two are playing small ball five against each other miami has bam and yannis and
12:32then i think it'll be bam or yannis when they're when each of them is not on the floor they'll
12:36be
12:36staggered boston's obviously going to have 48 minutes or have the luxury of having 48 minutes
12:41of namias kata or mitchell robinson out there not to mention whoever else that they sort of developed
12:45through the pipeline um detroit i mean maybe they'll have jaylen durren maybe maybe i i don't
12:54know at this point so on and so forth and then philly like me maybe it'll be um you know
13:01ariel
13:02hog boarding honestly i love how you didn't even mention joellen b when is he i don't know how he's
13:08gonna play on the floor yeah i don't know like it should be joellen b but yeah so i i
13:12think that's
13:12that's an interesting wrinkle to to to throw in there and the the quickness that he has and maybe
13:18dribble driving and some of the things that we saw last year like that'll be advantageous if he
13:22has the right matchup too if he's playing a small ball right matchup matters and we even saw a game
13:27i believe this was january 24th against philly in philly nicks had that really good yeah i remember
13:31you and i did a lot he was the back he was the five down the stretch not even the
13:34backup five he was
13:35closing he closed it to five on joellen b and did a fantastic job yeah and it'll give the nicks
13:40and it'll
13:41give the nicks a five-hour look which in today's nba is very important and when you can go to
13:45it
13:45and play it don't have to do it all the time but when you can do that that is a
13:48really good thing
13:49all right what's number two for you number two for me is and this one's obvious because we've talked
13:54about it so i won't go too long on it but the the matchup between moe diawara and pakob dadi
13:59i'm
13:59making it i'm making it a matchup in my head it might not be one it might not be one
14:03but we'll see uh
14:05we'll say it's a matchup for the time being in theory it should be but that's yeah it's just there
14:10so we've talked about backup center a lot i think this team also has a need for a backup wing
14:17but they have two on the roster you need one of them to emerge is really the thing like that's
14:22that's
14:22sort of the difference whereas with backup five you're just you're just hoping that andre drummond's
14:27good enough if you're the nicks um and he may be right but for the wings it's like you need
14:33to
14:33figure out what you have in moe diawara and to another degree become dadi although i i think
14:40that they have an idea of what of what they have at that point become dadi as we've talked about
14:46before 5.3 million dollar player option next year we are exactly from the time we're recording this a
14:52month away one month away from knowing whether they're going to accept or decline it they're
14:57probably going to decline it because i don't know why they're going to sign up to pay somebody who
15:00hasn't shown you really much of anything 5.3 million right now um unless he has a great training
15:05camp right which but then that would have to be the training camp of all training camps because it
15:10will complicate things financially for all the extension stuff that you know is looming and
15:14things of that nature like those five million dollars are going to matter moe diawara has 5.3
15:18million coming to him this year and next year combined okay combined not in one season like
15:25pacom dadi does and i would argue that he's shown you more than dadi has uh and he's been here
15:32for
15:32a lot less time so as it stands now moe diawara has two more years on his contract beyond these
15:39next two seasons it's a four-year deal but the last two aren't even fully guaranteed they're not
15:43fully guaranteed until january 10th of each season the way they structured that contract they
15:47basically paid him like a late first round pick or an early second round pick where they got to
15:50negotiate the deal like that's that's how they paid him whereas pacom daddy is a former first round
15:54pick who hasn't quite worked at this point so i think there's a need looking at the bench
15:58you have jose alvarado you have deuce mcbride you have landry shamit you have andre drummond
16:04you kind of need a backup wing you kind of need a backup wing to emerge emerge i know you're
16:09going
16:09to stagger you know bridges and og ananobi i know you're going to stagger josh hart but you can use
16:15a
16:15pacom dadi or a moe diawara likely moe diawara to emerge from this group so i think that's one of
16:21the
16:22main things i'll be watching for is that battle and who truly emerges we all suspect it'll be
16:26moe diawara but if pacom dadi has a better camp he can make things really interesting uh in that
16:31rotation you know what i'm rooting for come monday night against philly down in philadelphia i'll be
16:36at the game first piece of the game i hope that pacom dadi comes out on fire that'd be great
16:43i i'd be it'd be hilarious also nine to ten from the field with five threes and all y'all
16:51out there
16:51to go crazy because you know it's gonna have defending multiple positions yeah i want to see
16:55i want to see it for him three steals two blocks but i also just the nick fan that's gonna
16:59just get
16:59on the high horse about it and i will say i will just say it early to you i hope
17:04that happens for
17:05pacom daddy i think it makes things interesting but i would also tell you the time pump the brakes
17:10look he's still very young and some wings take a while yeah you never know i i hope that if
17:16it
17:16happens it's a great if he looks good and you are plays good in the first game again it's one
17:20preseason game but i think it's a good problem to have for the next it's the it's the michael ervin
17:24mean like what what are you prepared to do about it that's that's where pacom dadi is like he he's
17:29actually playing for his career like like this is not even a joke like that option gets declined
17:33you're a free agent next year there's no guarantee you'll be back we've seen first round picks
17:37just you know just go like three and he might he might be in france next year and not playing
17:41for
17:41the national team yeah like he might just be in france we'll see all right my number two uh was
17:46around the captain jalen brunson how does jalen brunson look coming off of wrist surgery uh as
17:51somebody who's had surgery this year i do not take surgery uh very lightly it's a mental part of it
17:57jalen brunson talked to me about it when i sat down with him earlier this year back in the summer
18:01and talked about the frustration at the time he was still uh in his brace and he wasn't able to
18:07do
18:07anything and what does that look like when he starts playing these games now i don't think jalen
18:12brunson is going to play a lot in the preseason right but when he does how comfortable is he not
18:17just dribbling and shooting this obviously was a shooting hand but the biggest thing for me is how
18:21do you feel about going into the lane taking contact contact excuse me how does it look like or feel
18:26when you do actually take contact all of that stuff is really going to matter to me so it's really
18:32just what's the comfortability for him another thing you can't really see in the preseason but
18:37you kind of will see more of in the regular season is what's the bounce back like what's the recovery
18:41like so even in the preseason if he does play some minutes in a game are the knicks limited in
18:46his
18:46workload the next day in practice how is that going to go about i think the knicks are going to
18:51be very
18:51cautious with him as they should jalen brunson said he's been cleared he says he feels good about
18:56everything all that's fine but you don't know anything about an injury and your confidence
19:01and the mental part around it until you start playing the games and actually playing nba basketball
19:05so for me it's just really how does it look how is he bouncing back how are the knicks handling
19:11this
19:11i think they're going to be cautious with it like i said i think they know the goal is to
19:15have him ready
19:17for april may and hopefully june that is the goal still amazing he played through the injury and dropped 45
19:23in game five but surgeries you know can take time for the confidence to come back with certain things
19:29and if he's looking good and fluid and comfortable and confident i think that's a good sign for the
19:34knicks but i still also think that the team and the fans will still want the knicks to take this
19:39costly which i think they will but i'm very intrigued to see how he looks coming off the wrist surgery
19:43yeah i think i think preseason we shouldn't see him a lot and honestly even during the regular season
19:49i wonder if they monitor his minutes at all early on i i kind of doubt it i think they'll
19:54just play
19:55him like as they normally would but you know we're gonna have to see how the contact feels how the
20:01wrist
20:01feels because he's somebody who gets fouled a lot people will swipe down not to try to re-injure him
20:08purposely but you know to try to steal the ball like it's gonna happen he's gonna have contact with his
20:12wrist it's gonna happen all season long this happened how this happened the first time so
20:15want to see how he handles it and uh if it becomes an issue something tells me that he might
20:21just be
20:21typical jayla prunson and everything will be fine because that's just kind of how it's worked out for
20:26him to this point but we'll we won't know until we actually see it unfold oh no gotta see it
20:30that's
20:30why they play the games all right i have a feeling that this has to be the same one i
20:35have a feeling
20:35that number one is going to be the same for us it has to be the same i personally think
20:38what i have
20:40is the most important thing to watch me too well of course you're gonna feel confident about it
20:45picked it number one too do you have the car anthony towns contractual situation sir i do not no i
20:51do
20:52i do i do it is it is the cat and towns and i also added deuce into here for
21:00the conversation even
21:01though i think he's less likely and people can check the conversation i just had with jared schwartz
21:06about this but i think it's less likely of the two but since we both have this number one we
21:11have
21:11the overlap here now we can just talk about it what was your reaction to jake fisher reporting
21:18uh that the knicks won him at four years 200 million my reaction initially was that number feels
21:28unrealistic and probably slightly disrespectful yes both those things i've made more than slightly
21:35disrespectful look and we went i don't want to belabor this because we went through this you can
21:40go check the episode we did talk about the cat extension all that but there's discounts and taking
21:46a little bit of money in his ass might take a take a whole bunch of a chunk and i
21:50will repeat this
21:50again i know some people out there will say oh well these guys are making millions of dollars and
21:55tens of millions of dollars all the stuff it's fine you have a limited shelf life to play athletics
22:00at the highest level of whatever it is that you do um i'm never going to fault anybody in any
22:06field
22:06for doing a particularly athletics because you only have your youth and your athletic ability for so
22:11long so i'm if i'm not going to be out here saying this person shouldn't get it we don't sit
22:17there
22:18and say oh james dolan should only take less on this deal or he should charge the fans less
22:23for tickets right we don't say any of that i don't hear anybody say people that i do not that
22:28i don't
22:29hear fans complain about the tickets and we saw what just happened with the ticket situation with
22:32msg and i would say that's a legitimate point but there seems to sometimes be a little bit more
22:37vitriol for players who want to get their bag than there are sometimes for the owners that want
22:43to continue to make insane profits and that's just weird to me i don't understand those people
22:49who think that way but teach their own um so yeah i felt like that number was disrespectful i don't
22:56think that's what it is and if i listen if i was cat and they moved to four for 200
23:02i would have been
23:03like nah nah like let me let me i don't think people understand this because not not all people i
23:10think
23:10some people do understand like yeah this is low-balling if if this is true and i'll couch it
23:19in the context of the nba money that you can make with a salary cap because i want to be
23:23in the context
23:24of just cat cat in 2022 signed an extension for four years and 224 million in 2022 that's the extension
23:35that he came into in new york like it began in 2024 2025 like and this is the one that
23:41he's currently
23:42this is the deal he's on right now that's paying him 57 million this year and would pay him 61
23:47million
23:47next year if he opts into that fourth year which obviously doesn't look like it's going to be the
23:52case because why would he do that he can get an extension now it's just a matter of getting the
23:56right number since that extension or actually i should say this first before that extension was agreed
24:02two in 2022 he never been out the first round since then he's been part of three deep playoff
24:09runs one championship team two conference finals two conference finals appearances other than that
24:13so three total he's been all nba he's been an all-star three times he was an all-star three
24:18times
24:18before that extension he's been an all-star three times since then these last three seasons four for
24:24200 right that cannot happen i'm so glad that you put it in the terms of the like people need
24:30to
24:31understand like cat is a better player now than before for for all the yeah for all the fun we've
24:36had with like the offensive fouls and whatever whatever but like he's made the adjustments he's
24:40proven at least like i know he's imperfect i know there are things that he does that drives people
24:45insane when it matters but he got it done by the way he did that in minnesota too like he
24:50was part of
24:51that team that beat denver and that ended up losing in the western conference finals like it wasn't all
24:56rudy gobert's defense it wasn't all like anthony edwards on offense like cat played a big part in that
25:00which is to say he's become a better player and a winner and played winning basketball since then
25:06you cannot have him take a 24 million dollar six million dollar per year pay cut relative to his
25:12old extension you have to start this has to start if i'm cat this has to be closer to the
25:17max it has
25:18to start at 60 million per because of what other players which we've outlined what they're getting
25:23like cat cat has proven to be a better player since signing that previous extension he cannot take
25:28that pay cut yes he can take a pay cut i agree with you taking that pay cut a little
25:33too much and
25:33now listen you said can the team offer him teams always going to do it this is what i want
25:37to be
25:37very clear at this i always try to bring things back to jobs because this is still work it has
25:42to
25:42yeah yeah when you are with whatever it is you do any of our listeners our viewers when whatever it
25:48is
25:48you do the company you work for is trying to get get you to do work at the least they
25:56can pay you
25:57right that is what they're trying to do your job you're trying to do the least amount of work you
26:03can for the most that you can get right not saying that you're lazy it's just you like hey american
26:09dream i'm trying to not have to work as hard and get this back that's what it is so once
26:14you
26:14understand this from both sides you understand what everyone is trying to do here you have to look
26:18at it through that lens now the point you brought up that i thought was really good despite all the
26:21stuff that was a great point this goes for josh hart too but specifically for cat
26:27if you look at all my accomplishments if you look at all my accolades and the most biggest one being
26:32i am an nba champion who was absolutely an integral part of being an nba champion and cut down some
26:40of
26:40the nonsense we had seen in terms of offensive fouls and that all that stuff what are you going to
26:45tell
26:45me i'm bringing to the table like nah that's that's too low i've done all this and then if you
26:50compare
26:51to you compare myself to the peers around me who are making in this i have names but i have
26:57that
26:57we've gone through some of those names and i have more but haven't been as accomplished as me
27:01i'm going to want more and i know there are people out there who have worked at jobs and have
27:08been
27:08around other people who you're looking at them like what you doing you're not bringing anything to
27:12the table you're out here stealing money not saying all the people are stealing money but you know that
27:16this happens and you are telling me some of you out there listening and watching and have known you've
27:20went in and said y'all can give me a raise you weren't going to take any pay cut or
27:25you weren't
27:25going to be hey i'm going to take one for the team you're not about that life nor would you
27:30do that
27:31again i understand we're talking about tens of million dollars i understand all that you have to
27:35have it in the context of the work scope we're talking about and the accomplishments that have been
27:39made within that work scope and so for me yeah four for 200 is like that now what i always
27:45say to
27:46you brian when you see something like to come out and i'm not saying that jake fisher is wrong
27:50i'm not saying that he's a damn good reporter i'm not saying he's putting it out who wanted that out
27:55there now team cat yeah i think they want this entire thing out there from from the from the talk
28:04of the extensions period to the number getting out like i think this is this entirely beneficial for
28:09his team i absolutely agree and stephan bonnie and i talked about this on media day because
28:12the tones and the verbiage that both cat and josh hart used on those days pretty much said
28:21y'all need to give me my money that's what it said and because as we as we talked about
28:26before it's more
28:26advantageous for the knicks if this lingers on a little bit but the if you're the players
28:33like cat should want his deal now and cat spoke about it and i brought this up in the last
28:38episode
28:38and stephan told us that that you know we look at cat last year with the honest stuff and how
28:44that
28:44affected him a little bit and cat used the word on media day about comfortability he would like the
28:49comfortability of having this situation taken care of because i think something we saw this affect cat
28:54and this is no shade on him at all i think it would affect anybody if you don't know where
28:58your
28:58stability is you don't know what your next couple of years are going to be like yes you can be
29:01traded
29:01at any time that's sure that can happen but it's nice to know you got the years in your contract
29:05especially when you have a limited time to do something athletically right that does affect
29:10guys josh hart also talked about not knowing this how this can affect home right because your family
29:15doesn't know are we going someplace do i have to move my kids i have to put them to another
29:18school
29:18these are real things and you might say you might go with the old don draper line from madman and
29:23say
29:23well that's what the money's for sure there's money there but that doesn't mean it still doesn't
29:26affect people personally and when it affects people personally then we got to start talking about
29:32well does that then affect the team does this then start to affect things in the locker room
29:35and if you're the knicks and just the guys that want the money you should not want that to happen
29:40so i actually think it behooves everybody yes to get this done in a way that as quickly as possible
29:47because josh hart also said i'll mean to cut you off yeah josh hart also said uh if this is
29:52like he
29:52didn't say this exact words but he kind of said well i'll have to look at february and if things
29:56are
29:56not uh if things haven't changed by then that's something i have to reevaluate february being notable
30:00as stephan i talked about a media day because what happens in february that is the trade deadline
30:05yes what i'm saying is josh hart and carl t towns chose their words very wisely deuce too on monday
30:12also deuce because i don't think he has as much leverage for a lesser extent kind of played it more
30:18down the line yeah i would say yeah that's not shade to do and cat has the same leverage cat
30:22has more
30:23leverage than josh hart because josh hart still has the option for next year team option team option
30:27but i think people need to understand like the the difference is not just 76 million it's almost 20
30:36million per year from the max that cat can get to the four to 200 and even if and i've
30:43thrown out the
30:44number four for 240 because that's 60 million on average and he's supposed to get 61 million next
30:51year if he opts in like he can just get 61 million if he wants to opt in so like
30:55that's that makes sense
30:56as a starting point starting point still 36 million short of his max that's almost 10 million a year
31:03that he would miss out on like that's not an insignificant thing and the four for 200 like
31:08for people who would say oh that's 50 million a year that's a lot of money he's getting like
31:12laurie marken in money he's getting less than paul george he's getting less than trey young he's
31:16getting less than joel and bead he's getting less than jamal murray and the aaron fox and jaron
31:20jackson jr does hasn't he proven that he's a different caliber player now yeah that's that's
31:26but that's it that is the thing this is how this is how we need to look at this it's
31:30not about like
31:30oh 50 million dollars is a lot of money it's like i can also get 276 it's almost 70 million
31:37per year
31:37whatever it is people if people care people have pride in their work you have pride in what you do
31:42when you come hopefully some people don't pride in their work i've met those people but you would like
31:47to have pride in your work and what you come and do and so if you do and you're looking
31:50at peers
31:50that you've outperformed because this is a performance-based industry yeah of course you're
31:55going to bring these up and listen and he's doubled he's doubled his all-star appearances
31:59since signing that contract i'm also not totally shading the knicks for if the four for 200 is the
32:05right offer if it yeah because i understand this is business this is how it works yeah yeah right it's
32:10not personal it's business the company is going to try to get you for as little as they can pay
32:15you
32:16if cat automatically says yeah i'll sign four for 200 james dolan company they're popping champagne
32:21guys yeah the deal will be done the deal will be done right now how soon can you sign right
32:25that's
32:25what they're going to do because that's just what it is and it's you i'm always going to support
32:32everybody and every employee for knowing their worth yeah that is something i'm 100 percent going to
32:38support so josh hart cat they're going to know their worth but i think their message has been clear
32:43y'all need to pay us what we're worth or at least give us the security that we are looking
32:50for with
32:50the requisite pay so that we can feel more comfortable right going through the season especially
32:56for two guys who are now over 30 and this is probably their last contract both of them all
33:01that stuff like deuce is a little bit different and i think deuce can get a good bag from a
33:07number
33:07a number of different teams but with these two dudes this is probably their last chance at like
33:12big money which is also why you don't want to take a short especially with you know very physical
33:17styles of play guys who have had injuries in the past like pretty significant ones as well
33:25this is this is too much at stake and i'm sure given what we've heard what we've seen from them
33:31that
33:31they love it here they want to stay here i'm sure that they're willing to take less than their max
33:36but within reason the last thing i'm gonna say on this is what i am intrigued about it going through
33:41is this is going to be asked throughout the preseason um from the media and will it become a
33:48point where the guys were sure glad to talk about it on media day i don't i think because of
33:55the way
33:55this team particularly led by jalen brunson they'll become a point where they don't want to talk about
33:59it and i would agree where it would become too much and that's not a fault the media has to
34:03ask
34:03these questions it's an important question to ask that's why nicole jokic did what he did in media
34:07day and said i'll sign next year if they want to have me that's it that's it now the situation
34:12is
34:12a little different but in his situation leverage and all that but i the owner's similar yes i do
34:18think it'll be interesting to see when they're like okay this is enough some guys don't want to
34:24have contract extensions start to go past with the starter season when they start playing games
34:28some people like to leave the business out of it um josh hart at both i think somebody who like
34:35you said because of the fact that he has a team option attached to his i think he'd like to
34:38get
34:38it done but just cat because of what we've seen from him and i will keep bringing up the point
34:42by
34:42steph and he has a great one he has a lot of he's got the leverage and we know when
34:47cat maybe hasn't
34:48you know felt the comfortability around him because he wants to be here he talked about it the other day
34:53i want to be here i've rooted for this team since i was a kid i've won a championship here
34:56i love it
34:57here in new york all this other stuff just got married and some people will say probably wants
35:00to stay here some people will say and i think this is stupid so i'm gonna just say this out
35:03here
35:03whoa he wants to be here why doesn't he take the four for 200 have you ever not earned or
35:09known your
35:10worth because i would say like i don't whoever's saying that i would wonder do you think that little
35:13of yourself and what you've done if you've any accomplished anything you would want better for
35:17yourself right like would you take 50 grand when you know you could get 70 would you take 100 grand
35:22when you could when you know you can get 130 and you like these are the percentages we're more or
35:27less and you legitimately have proof to show this is what you're worth that's the other part of it
35:31it's not like it's i think i'm worth this and you're like no no i've done this this this this
35:35this right
35:35right like and i can show you doubled my all-star appearances since i signed that extension prior
35:39doubled them and have won a title this is what's happening at the negotiation table i hope we can look
35:45at this with nuance i hope we can look at this from a human perspective and understand how business works
35:49we'll see i i don't think it'll become a distraction i asked stuff about this other day i don't think
35:55it'll become a distraction because of just how this team is wired and the leadership on this team i don't
36:02think so but i do like i support the players in the moves they've made and the way they've put
36:07their
36:07messaging out yeah because they know like one injury happens and that leverage that we're talking about
36:13you know what i mean like this is the thing especially now now in this climate where everybody's
36:19getting hurt like and cat's been hurt before like he's had multiple seasons he's had multiple
36:25seasons a few years ago where he played just 29 games and uh before that he has a season earlier
36:30his career was covet impacted but still only played 35 games don't know how much he would have played
36:34otherwise it takes one injury you know like he's had injuries before he's also again above 30 years
36:39older than 30 720 games in his career all starts all big minutes first career average is 34 minutes a
36:46game like there's a lot of wear and tear there which is also why the knicks are probably like look
36:49we
36:49don't want to pay x amount but this is also why cat and his team evidently have a sense of
36:55urgency in
36:56getting this done but cat has a leverage here because if he is serious about not that he would want
37:02to go
37:02anywhere but if he were serious about wanting to hit the open market basically and test out free agency
37:09i mean he'll get money from somebody and then that that adds a funkiness to your build now because
37:15it's like well cat's not there for for all his imperfections and things of that nature he's still
37:21ultimately a damn good player which is why he's been held to a high standard and he met that standard
37:25for
37:26a lot of people last year and exceeded it i think even for a lot of people last year particularly
37:29in
37:29the playoffs gonna be interesting to watch those are our top three things to watch with the knicks this
