The Trump administration has moved to end its controversial large-scale immigration crackdown in Minnesota, known as Operation Metro Surge, after months of raids, arrests, and nationwide outrage. Border czar Tom Homan confirmed the drawdown of thousands of federal agents, saying enforcement levels will return to normal, though broader nationwide immigration actions will continue.

The operation triggered massive protests and political backlash, especially after the fatal shootings of two U.S. citizens — Alex Pretti and Renée Good — during federal enforcement actions. Local leaders criticized the operation for damaging communities and the economy, while federal officials defended it as a safety measure. The end of the operation comes amid mounting political pressure, investigations, and public scrutiny over ICE tactics

00:50With that and the success that has been made arresting public safety threats and other
00:55priorities since this surge operation began, as well as the unprecedented levels of coordination
01:00we have obtained from state officials and local law enforcement, I have proposed and
01:06President Trump has concurred that this surge operation conclude.
01:13A significant drawdown has already been underway this week and will continue to the next week.
01:21We have a lot of work to do across this country to remove public safety risks who shouldn't
01:28even be in this country.
01:30And to deliver on President Trump's promise for strong border security and mass deportation,
01:35law enforcement officers drawn down from this surge operation will either return to the
01:40duty station or be assigned elsewhere to achieve just that.

02:58Thank you!
03:45I want to say something about the various unfounded complaints I'm hearing about ICE enforcement operations.
03:51During the surge operation, ICE has not arrested anybody inside a hospital.
03:57We have not arrested anybody inside of a school, an elementary school.
04:04We have not arrested anybody inside a church.
04:08As a matter of fact, the only ones that disrespected the sanctuary of a church were the agitators that have
04:14been arrested and prosecuted.
04:15So far, we have nine of them.
04:19However, those little cases are not off the table.
04:22I said from day one, there is no sanctuary for a significant public safety threat or national security threat.
04:30But as far as those stories about ICE going into churches, arresting people in hospitals, it simply has not happened.
04:37And if you have a case where it happened, you let me know.
04:41Because all the digging I've done here, I can't find a single one.
