The initiative is supported by right‑wing parties Alianza para el Progreso and Podemos Peru. Jeri, who assumed the presidency as head of Congress, faces accusations of irregular business dealings and secret ties with Chinese businessman Zhihua Yang, currently under investigation for alleged involvement in illegal logging in the Amazon.
