I’ve always been the biggest fan of technological leaps, but the latest report from the International Energy Agency (IEA) honestly stopped me in my tracks. We talk about "the cloud," but we forget that the cloud runs on physical ground—and it is incredibly thirsty.
According to the data, AI data centers are on track to consume 765 billion liters of water by 2025. To put that into perspective, that’s roughly the same amount of water consumed in bottles globally in an entire year. And let’s not even start on the 80 million tons of carbon emissions... 🌍
As I dig deeper into these stats, I find myself torn. I love the convenience AI brings to my workflow, but are we trading our planet’s resources for faster processing speeds?
