Transcript
00:00One mistake out here could be the difference between life or death.
00:25You have no idea what you're going to encounter.
00:30People come up here when they're on the run.
00:32Keep running, keep running.
00:33He's through there.
00:34And we'll find him.
00:35The allure to Alaska is just how wild it can be.
00:38Stop or you're going to get tasered!
00:43Stop!
00:44The state troopers are on the left.
00:46Hit that, hit that, hit that, hit that, hit that.
00:48Oh, stop.
00:49You don't have a boring day as a state trooper in Alaska.
00:51We've got fire, backfire, go to the round shot.
00:54State troopers!
00:55Do not move!
00:56Give me some your hands!
00:57Hands down!
01:00Thank you for your service!
01:01Woo!
01:02Go get them!
01:03I'm Trooper Chernus.
01:04I've been a trooper for a little over a year now.
01:19And I've been in law enforcement for about five years.
01:22Oh, sorry!
01:24Today is summer solstice.
01:26Longest day of the year.
01:27Sunset's around 12, 12, 30, and then sunrise is about three.
01:31There's a lot going on in town, a lot of events, a lot of parties.
01:35Everybody's been cooped up all winter, so once the days start getting longer and it
01:38starts warming up, it seems like people kind of lose their mind.
01:41It's kind of weird because, as you can see, it's almost 1 a.m. and you can see everything,
01:53so it definitely helps me locate and identify the type of driving behavior people exhibit
01:58when they might be involved in criminal activity.
02:02I looked at his car and it just took off on me for no reason.
02:11I got a guy trying to flee from me.
02:21We're at the Oasis.
02:27Purple pickup.
02:40It's unoccupied.
02:41He must have fled on foot.
02:42We're behind the Oasis.
02:44Fairbanks, 2010.
02:45Can I get a read back on ?
02:47Check cat history and arms history and see who's associated with it.
02:50The registered owner sounds like he's on probation for fleeing from police and felony theft.
03:01Hey, turn into this guy that just ran off this white shirt and black hat.
03:08Is he close or no?
03:10Yeah, this is a black shirt, white t-shirt, long black hair.
03:19Let me see your hands.
03:20Let me see your hands.
03:21I got him here.
03:22I got him here.
03:23Hands up.
03:24Hands up.
03:25Hands up.
03:26Feel the ground.
03:27Feel the ground.
03:28Hands down.
03:29Hands down.
03:30We got him.
03:31All right, set up.
03:32Bring your knees up.
03:33Yes.
03:34Ready?
03:35Yeah.
03:36Yeah.
03:37All right, stop, stop, stop.
03:38Over here.
03:39Go.
03:40You want to just check the grass and see if you ditch anything around here.
03:41Perfect.

04:09All right.
04:10You all right, man?
04:11Do you need to talk to an ambulance or anything like that?
04:12Who's the door?
04:13Hey, you.
04:14Okay.
04:15Are you willing to talk to me at all?
04:16Huh?
04:17Bye.
04:18Who's the door, bro?

05:06Bye.
05:07So he's got multiple phones, he's got a digital scale, tons of baggies, a little bit of coke residue,
05:12and probably get this thing impounded and get the show on the road.
05:17You're pretty fast, Testa.
05:31Summer solstice, I can sometimes cause problems.
05:34Peace and chance, we'll have people drinking quite a bit, parties, DUIs, might have some fights, just never know.
05:43First way, 10. 10.36.
05:45So we just got dispatched to a disturbance slash domestic violence situation.
05:50What's being reported is a son hit his mother, I believe, with a pillow. He is 37.
06:00I thought it was like a kid hit his mom with a pillow, so now that I'm seeing that the guy is like 37,
06:03and that's a little concerning.
06:06I'm not sure if he's going to be highly intoxicated, maybe mentally unstable.
06:10Might be more serious, who knows.
06:12It's all my fault, because I threw a pillow at you.
06:32That's pathetic.
06:33Come talk to me, Matt, it's the state troopers.
06:37Mind stepping out and chatting with us?
06:38Oh, hand a camera.
06:40Step down here.
06:41Step down.
06:41Oh, no, no, no worries.
06:42Step down.
06:42I'm stepping down, I'm sitting down.
06:45No weapons at hand.
06:46Come on.
06:46Over here, come on.
06:47Oh, forceful.
06:48You're all right.
06:49We're not trying to hurt you.
06:50Over here.
06:50Oh, no, no, no, no.
06:51I'm going to squat over here.
06:53All right, if you want to take a seat over here, that's fine.
06:55Oh, chihuahuas.
06:57You want to just lean up on the car for me and chow you?
06:58No, no, no, no.
06:59I'm not leaning on the car.
07:00I'm leaning against the yard.
07:02What's going on?
07:03Why are we here?
07:03What happened?
07:03I threw a pillow at my mom.
07:05What happened?
07:06What led up to that?
07:07No, because she called me useless and I go like, stop.
07:12And I threw the pillow at her.
07:14So I'm the bad guy in all this.
07:17Mm-hmm.
07:18Okay.
07:19And then she called you guys and I'm going like, of course you're going to hold that against
07:24me because I threw a pillow at you.
07:27I gotcha.
07:27I don't want to make this bad.
07:30It's summer solstice.
07:32You guys don't want to be out here doing this.
07:35I got to take care of chihuahuas and my mom with dementia.
07:41So this is the deal.
07:42You need to stop throwing pillows at your mom.
07:43I don't care how much of an argument you're getting in.
07:46Good note.
07:46If she would have been injured, you're going to jail today.
07:48Okay?
07:49By a pillow.
07:50By a pillow.
07:51If she's injured by it, you're going to jail.
07:52It's called DV assault.
07:54Okay?
07:55Able to stay away from your mom, keep things peaceful.
07:56I'm going to bed.
07:58All right.
07:58Let's go back in the house and let's go to bed.
08:00Don't help me up.
08:01I got myself.
08:02No.
08:03You're fine.
08:04Well, yeah.
08:05All right.
08:06Head back in.
08:07Take care of yourself.
08:09Happy solstice.
08:11Happy solstice.
08:12They're doing a magnificent job.
08:15They're checking up and I appreciate them.
08:26Mackin' 1B91023.
08:35I'm Sergeant Chris Havens.
08:36I'm working day shift in the valley.
08:38As the sergeant, my responsibilities are to kind of herd the cats, per se, just try to devote
08:46the appropriate resources to where they need to go.
08:49We're responding to a subject that has a warrant for assault on his mother.
08:54The mother saw him inside the house and called the police.
08:58Palmer PD surrounded the house to try to call him out.
09:01Our plan as of right now is to potentially affect entry.
09:05This is our second barricade of the day.
09:07We're hoping that he does eventually decide to come out.
09:15This is the Palmer Police Department.
09:17I need you to exit the residence peacefully now.
09:23Our suspect's criminal history includes assault second degree DUI, assault fours.
09:29He does have a previous resisting arrest or barricading out of Anchorage.
09:34He's definitely been involved in this process before.
09:36Please just come outside with your hands in the air and surrender.
09:40If you do not reply, you may be bit my own dog or otherwise injured.
09:44I don't want to see that happen to you.
09:47There are more of us coming.
09:49One has been approved and they are on their way.
09:52I've seen him walk past the doors and windows several times so he knows we're outside.
09:57He's got a position of advantage.
09:58He's got access to potential weapons.
10:01So it's just all around a bad situation.
10:03And certainly we could make it worse by trying to go in hastily.
10:07We're responding to a assault warrant subject that has barricaded inside of his mother's residence.
10:32He's got access to potential weapons.
10:34The mother left the residence and he has refused to come out to us.
10:40So right now our snipers are getting set in location.
10:43If our suspect does not imply SWAT will breach the front door.
10:48Bearcat arrived on scene, which is our armored vehicle.
10:51We're going to get a couple of members inside.
10:52Friend, we're going to start working on door breach.
10:54This is Alaska State Troopers.
10:57You are on their left.
10:59Come out the front door now.
11:00There's nothing in your hand.
11:03Come out the front door, Dominic.
11:06We don't want to wake them off now.
11:07Come out.
11:12Count me.
11:12I'm ready to move to the Bearcat.
11:14This is Alaska State Troopers.
11:16Come back to the front door.
11:17We don't want you to get hurt.
11:18He went left to the bedrooms.
11:20I think we should deploy that NFDD, see if we can get a response back.
11:25I'm going to find no autonomy.
11:27I don't want to damage your hometown anymore.
11:29We are ready.
11:31All right, moving.
11:32Okay, on me.
11:33On me.
11:34Don't move.
11:35Let me see both hands.
11:37Both hands.
11:38Stop!
11:39Don't move.
11:40Don't move.
11:41Okay, let's get him out of here.
11:44He was able to close the door on us.
11:46We continue with the door breach, force the door back open.
11:49Luckily, we were able to get close enough to tase him, make entry into the house, effect
11:53an arrest.
11:54You all right if we get those barbs on you?
11:55I don't consent, sir.
11:56I'm not searching anything.
11:58I'm just trying to help you out.
11:59That's all.
12:00So it ended pretty good in this situation.
12:03We are going to take photos of the front door if you want to communicate with mom, and
12:08she is cleared to return to the residence whenever she pleases.
12:16All right, just do me a favor and keep those speeds down low for me, okay?
12:32We've gotten reports of some roosts on the side of the road up a way, exactly.
12:35All right, so enjoy the rest of your trip.
12:37My name is Sergeant Brian Haley.
12:39I've been with the troopers for going on 15 years now.
12:43We got a report almost a week ago now of a really bad assault that took place.
13:00The suspect got a pickaxe handle and struck a female victim in the head.
13:06Also, while she was trying to get away, he actually got a hold of a mallet and hit her
13:12across the head again, ended up breaking her arms, breaking her legs.
13:15She was unconscious for about three days, almost been a week now, and she's still in
13:21the ICU, just barely able to talk.
13:24We know who the suspect is, but we're still not sure of his location.
13:28We've since gotten some information from her of where this assault might have taken place.
13:33So we're going to head up there with a couple other troopers and do some recon.
13:36We're just looking for anything to corroborate her story.
13:41And these are the exact description of the clothes that she gave.
13:45While she was running away screaming, the suspect was chasing her down and tore it all.
13:49So, um, it was a pretty violent assault.
13:54Looks like there's possibly, looks like drips of blood right here on the rock.
13:58She said that he drove up with the pickup truck, put her in the truck.
14:01She thought she was going to be driven around until she died.
14:03I think that's all we're going to get out here.
14:05I want to get out of this park.
14:06Yeah, this is a hell of a case, guys.
14:10It was a shot in the dark, but we ended up determining that it was a location.
14:14This is way too much just to be a big coincidence.
14:18I'm Trooper Scott McAfee.
14:30I've been with the Alaska State Troopers for 10 years.
14:33Currently, I'm assigned as a canine handler with the Criminal Suppression Unit here in Fairbanks, Alaska.
14:38I'm going to meet up with Trooper Jess Evans.
14:41Like, that's it.
14:42We're going to go try to apprehend for the horrific assault he committed against his girlfriend.
14:50There's an area in North Pole where he has been known to hang out, and we're getting word from people on the street that he's been seen recently.
14:59So we are going to these couple hot spots and install some trail cameras that will send photographs in real time to us of any movement.
15:08I've been dealing with this guy since I started.
15:10I have personal history with him running and fighting.
15:13Really?
15:13Yeah, so we need to put our effort into trying to find him and getting him off the street.
15:17So this is the place right here.
15:25Shantytown.
15:27And which house is it?
15:29So allegedly he's living here in that garage.
15:35There's a bunch of broke-down, abandoned places he could be hiding in out there.
15:39We'll go contact the neighbor and see if we can put a camera there.
15:42Hey, sir.
15:48How you doing?
15:48Good.
15:49Hey.
15:49You come out.
15:50They get kind of loud.
15:51Oh, okay.
15:51Hey, Trooper McAfee with State Troopers.
15:53How are you doing?
15:53Hey, we're looking...
15:53Just recovering from the shoulders.
15:55Oh, dang.
15:55We're looking for a guy who's got a warrant.
15:57His mom lives across the street.
15:59You mind if we put a camera on your property facing that way?
16:02All right, cool.
16:03Anything to get that guy.
16:05Okay, sounds good.
16:05I'm going to help you all out.
16:06That's what I figured.
16:08You know, most people want these guys.
16:10I broke my shoulder.
16:10Oh, really?
16:11Yeah.
16:11How do you do that?
16:13Well, I confronted him over on his property because he was screaming like a child.
16:19Yeah.
16:20And I woke up on the ground, broken shoulder, intuitions in the back.
16:24But you don't mind us setting up some gear then?
16:25I don't mind that at all.
16:26All right, appreciate you.
16:28The public's very supportive of what we do here, which makes it a great place to work.
16:33Farming in 10 seconds.
16:35There we go.
16:36Camera one installed.
16:38Well, thanks for your help letting us set that up.
16:40And we'll probably leave it there for a couple of days.
16:42Anything you guys need, a ham sandwich or whatever you need, I'm here.
16:45Appreciate you.
16:46Yeah.
16:46No, seriously.
16:47Thank you, guys.
16:48Yep.
16:48Nice to talk to you.
16:49We'll see you again.
16:50All right.
16:50Take care.
16:50Good day.
16:51The community here in Fairbanks, they support the state troopers.
16:54They're happy to help, and we love work and hand-in-hand with them.
17:02Oh, what do we got here?
17:05Cops out with somebody.
17:09Let's see.
17:10It's this.
17:13That's him.
17:15That's him.
17:15That's the suspect.
17:18Well, we got him.
17:20That's as rough as I've ever seen him look.
17:22Carrying around a gallon of chocolate milk to live off, I guess.
17:26You were looking for him.
17:27Yeah, I knew we were looking for him.
17:28I'm going to walk you back in the patrol car.
17:30All right.
17:31That was easy, yeah.
17:32Just so you're aware, you have a $100,000 warrant for your arrest, okay?
17:35Worked out good.
17:38A little anticlimactic for us, but the bad guy's off the street.
17:40You know, the mission's successful, so that's what we're here for.
17:44Hey, job well done, right?
17:59Name's Trooper Cody Haley.
18:01Working out of the Wasilla slash Palmer post here in Alaska.
18:05Our patrol area is the size of West Virginia.
18:08You need to be able to handle yourself more than most areas of law enforcement.
18:12One mistake out here could be the difference between life and death.
18:16Backup for you.
18:17Shot with me, something.
18:18Felony level, amount of death.
18:21We have two people chasing.
18:24Let's go ahead and request AST assistance.
18:26It's 30 to 19 on WPD.
18:29We requested AST's assistance in applying some spikes, so we're heading towards Anchorage
18:37right now with the pursuit.
18:38Crossing the bridge, southbound.
18:40Feeds are going to have 100.
18:42Passing higher.
18:47WPD and AST are both currently in pursuit of the vehicle.
18:50We'll catch up.
18:51Our job, once we get there on scene, is to probably be the third or fourth car in the
19:02vehicle pursuit.
19:03Somebody else will pit it.
19:05We're going to try to lock in the vehicle, make sure it can't move, and hopefully safely
19:09resolve this without any injury.
19:11Looks like they're throwing all the evidence outside of the vehicle, trying to destroy any
19:24evidence.
19:31We're heading towards APD, and generally they'll help us with spikes too.
19:35APD, do you like to take one heart attack?
19:38Let's go back off and turn it down.
19:42Vehicle continuing to throw stuff out after we have been disconnected.
19:47We don't have the ability to terminate the pursuit in any way.
19:50Since no one's ahead with spikes to stop the vehicle, we have to stop the pursuit.
19:54But he's showing behavior right now that shows that it could be under the influence of something,
19:58but continuously driving recklessly, even without any law enforcement contact.
20:03So I'm following at a distance.
20:04Oh, he's getting off right there.
20:08I got it.
20:09It's right in front of me.
20:11And it's heading towards the base right now.
20:14There's nowhere for it to go.
20:16Advise the base police that the truck trying to enter the base is our pursuit vehicle.
20:21There's no escaping.
20:23It's done for.
20:24That pursuit truck just U-turned and almost hit me head off, which is a felony assault from a law enforcement officer.
20:40Yeah.
20:40All units in the traffic pursues to APD and refusing to attack.
20:52They have complete disregard for public safety.
20:54They're swerving and going to the oncoming traffic.
21:01All units in the traffic pursues to APD and refusing to attack.
21:04I'll try to put it here on C Street.
21:06I'll try to put it right as he discontinued it.
21:11We're about to pit it right as he discontinued it.
21:15Copied.
21:16We did discontinue.
21:17It's back northbound on A Street.
21:20The pursuit became very dangerous for the public.
21:23We asked for assistance from the Anchorage Police Department so we could spike it and end it.
21:27Unfortunately, we weren't able to help.
21:29It's very frustrating.
21:30I mean, personally, if somebody almost hits you, you want them to go to jail.
21:33But still, at the end of the day, my personal frustrations is not more important than public safety.
21:40That's what matters the most.
21:53I'm Trooper Parker with the Alaska State Troopers.
22:04The stuff we see living out here is, like, postcard-worthy.
22:08It's so pretty, it looks fake.
22:11I remember my second day in Alaska, I'm driving with my wife, and we see this jet-black, bangy-looking dog.
22:17I was like, man, that's a rough-looking dog.
22:19My wife's like, that's a wolf.
22:21We've had calls and issues with kids getting stomped by moose at the bus stop.
22:26So, beautiful stuff in Alaska, but, you know, with the beauty comes the danger.
22:3134, our caller thinks she found a human hand on the ground.
22:36It has five digits, but no claws.
22:3910-4, 10-9-2.
22:42Not the first time we've gotten those calls, so a little suspicious.
22:471B-34.
22:49Hello?
22:51Hello?
22:52Hey, State Troopers.
22:53So, down the street, is it...
22:54Can we walk?
22:55Sure.
22:56That's it right there.
22:57Is it that black thing?
22:58Yeah.
22:59We noticed it because there were flies swarming around.
23:04God forbid if it is a person.
23:06I want to get photographs before you touch anything.
23:10Not very often you find something like that.
23:12I don't shy away from blood and all that stuff.
23:14I've been a medic for many, many years, so...
23:16For me, it's no big deal.
23:17Looks like the foot.
23:18I mean, you had the heel right there in the metatarsals.
23:22Let me put this in the bag because I'm not putting this in my car like that, so...
23:25Obviously, it's a foot.
23:26It's a bone, but...
23:27It is animal.
23:28A little black bear bear cup.
23:29Cool.
23:30Didn't have any claws on it, but same size as my foot.
23:46It is something because we get these calls a lot.
23:48You know, it's like, oh, there's a human remains, but...
23:50Nah, yeah, no, it's a bear.
23:52If nothing else, we got something that is going to upset other folks out of the roadway.
23:56It may not be glamorous, but it's fun.
23:58I'm having a great time.
24:00My name's James Kamira.
24:16I've been a trooper for almost 22 years.
24:19I started my career in the Matzu Valley working patrol duties.
24:23Dig bag, go ride with me.
24:25Sounds good.
24:26And then took a position in the rural services unit in Fairbanks.
24:37Today, we're doing some follow-up on an arson investigation that we received a few days
24:42ago.
24:44Our kind of marching orders are to spend our time in the villages and the communities,
24:48because there's so few troopers and village police officers.
24:51We try to make a presence the best we can.
24:54Sometimes we drive.
24:56We use snow machines and four-wheelers sometimes.
24:59And a lot of times, we use small airplanes.
25:02However we have to get out there, we get out there.
25:05This house right here, yeah.
25:09It's in the back.
25:10Underneath the boxes were all lit on fire, and it was starting to climb that wall.
25:16And you could tell something had been dumped on it.
25:18Well, you can still smell accelerant.
25:20Gasoline here, so.
25:21Right.
25:22So you came over here and a bunch of community members put it out?
25:25Yeah, we put it out pretty quick.
25:27All right.
25:28Yeah.
25:29Well, it's a good thing that nobody got hurt.
25:30That's the main thing, so.
25:31Picture in there, man.
25:32Yeah, we're still investigating it, and we're going to try to contact the suspect
25:37while we're here.
25:38Right.
25:39I don't know what his story is.
25:40All I know is that he's been messaging me and threatening me out.
25:42Okay.
25:43Well, let's get out there, get some pictures, and some CSI work out in the village, huh?
25:52The victim found what he thought was the container that was used for the arson.
25:57So, we're looking into this right now.
25:59Do you smell anything?
26:00No.
26:01It's been here for a minute, but it's maybe recently broken.
26:04Yeah.
26:05Because it's still got sharp edges.
26:08We'll take these things super serious.
26:11It's a felony, level crime, and there were kids inside the house when this was all happening.
26:16So, it's at the highest level of importance.
26:20All right, man.
26:21Thanks for coming.
26:22You bet.
26:23All right.
26:24We'll get to work.
26:25Thanks.
26:26All right.
26:28The suspect is from the village here.
26:31We've dealt with him both as a victim and suspect in several things.
26:35Oh, so it's right here?
26:36Yeah.
26:37Okay.
26:38Cool.
26:43Kevin?
26:44Yeah.
26:45Hey, what's up?
26:46Where were you when the fire transpired there?
26:48That fire?
26:49The fire.
26:50The fire, yeah.
26:51Yeah.
26:52So, what do you know about that?
26:53I know that is saying that was me that made that fire.
26:56Oh.
26:57I wouldn't do nothing like that.
26:58Okay.
26:59So, there'd be no reason why we'd find any evidence linking you or nobody would see you
27:04like running through the woods or anything like that?
27:06No, that's crazy.
27:07Okay.
27:08When was the last time you've ever been over there to his house?
27:10June 27th.
27:11That is the last time I would go over there.
27:13Okay.
27:14So, you're pretty specific about that day.
27:15Yeah.
27:16Because he kicked my ass and told me the next time I see you, I'm going to still square you
27:21up and stuff like that.
27:22Okay.
27:23He's just crazy.
27:24Okay.
27:25So, yeah, you've had a beef with him for a while.
27:27Yeah.
27:28Where were you when the fire started?
27:30Oh, it was up here at my dad's.
27:31Okay.
27:32Who was at the house with you?
27:33My mom.
27:34Your mom was there.
27:35Is your mom over there right now?
27:37Yeah.
27:38Yeah.
27:39Let's go talk to mom real quick.
27:44Do you remember the day of the fire?
27:45I just remember Gladys said there was fire over .
27:48Okay.
27:49You were here when you heard that on the radio?
27:51Yeah.
27:52Where was Kevin at?
27:53I'm not sure where he was.
27:54He just came back on a four-wheeler and he just went down to the baseball field.
27:58Was he by himself?
27:59He was by himself.
28:00Okay.
28:01Well, thank you.
28:02Okay.
28:04Let's talk to Kevin again and clear this up.
28:06All right.
28:07He's got some explaining to do.
28:11Hey, Kevin.
28:12You mind just talking with us out here?
28:14Yeah.
28:15So basically what we're trying to do is trying to get a corroboration for you.
28:20You know, an alibi, right?
28:22And we're having a difficult time doing that because it seems like it's not adding up from
28:27what you're telling us and what your mom's telling us.
28:31Do you think he did it?
28:33I don't really know.
28:34I don't think there's really enough to...
28:36There's not enough.
28:37To blame him on anything.
28:38Yeah, I know.
28:39It's frustrating.
28:44I'm Trooper Jason Venable.
29:02Been with the Alaska State Troopers for about two and a half years now.
29:06A lot of the residential areas we have out here are different than what you'd see in the lower 48.
29:11Here in Alaska, people tend to have a little bit of land, and your neighbor is definitely a neighbor,
29:16but they might not be in shouting distance to you.
29:21We're in a pretty high-crime area right now.
29:23A lot of drugs come in and out of this area.
29:26Lots of broke-down cars, lots of trailers, random outbuildings.
29:30A lot of places people can be that we can't see them.
29:33For now, we're just going to cruise around this neighborhood, see if we can't see anything that stands out.
29:36The guy parked on the road, he doesn't want to look up at us.
29:46We're going to stop out with him and have a chat.
29:50Mack in 48 will be out with a white TMC, white male, orange shirt, getting out and walk away.
29:55Hey man, come here!
29:56Come here! Come here! Come here! Come here! Come here! Come around!
30:11What? Stop moving! What you got in here and throw? Stop moving, put your hands on your back!
30:17Separate your feet! Separate your feet! Do it now!
30:20Get on your stomach!
30:241B48, you hit your emergency button.
30:2648, 1 to change, step it up.
30:281B48, I copy, 1 to change, step it up.
30:30Can I have any unit head-toe?
30:33Sit up.
30:35You know why I can't talk to you? Parking in the road.
30:37And you saw me turn around and get me out of the way.
30:39You know why I can't talk to you? Parking in the road.
30:41And you saw me turn around and get me out of the way.
30:43You know why I can't talk to you? No.
30:45I didn't!
30:46Sit down.
30:47Okay, I'm still moving.
30:49On your butt. This is your hat, right?
30:50Yeah, it's my hat.
30:51Okay.
30:52Okay, I'm putting it on your head so you don't lose it.
30:54Thank you, sir.
30:55What's your name?
30:5748, I'm out.
30:59All right, yep.
31:00There you go.
31:02I don't have nothing. I'm dope, dick, and that's it.
31:03That sucks, man.
31:05I'm a dope dick, and that's it.
31:06That sucks, man.
31:08I'm a dope dick, and that's it.
31:10I'm a dope dick, and that's it.
31:11That sucks, man.
31:13I'm a dope dick, and that's it.
31:14That sucks, man.
31:15The cavalry is almost 1023.
31:18You took off running in this well-known property
31:20that we have a lot of drug-type issues.
31:22I'm alone here on the ground with a dude surrounded by metal.
31:25It's a big danger factor.
31:27My radar's pretty spotty,
31:28and I ended up having to activate my emergency button
31:30just to let people know, like,
31:31hey, I need serious help right now.
31:34Anything else on you besides?
31:35I saw you got keys, money.
31:36Anything else in your pockets?
31:37No.
31:38No knives, guns, machetes, hand grenades?
31:40I don't have a .
31:43My ID is right there, and I saw it.
31:44Okay.
31:45You can search my car car.
31:46We just hang out with him for a second?
31:49I'm not doing nothing.
31:56I'm just looking at my car.
31:58The car's fine, man.
32:00You want to just pull stuff out of his pockets
32:01and then put them in the car?
32:03Watch your head.
32:04Watch your head.
32:13You got something else.
32:14What's up, man?
32:15I'm just wondering what's going on.
32:16You tell me.
32:18How come dudes are showing up at your house
32:19and running from the police?
32:21What the ?
32:22Are you the owner of this place?
32:23My mom is.
32:24Oh, okay.
32:25Dude, your guy here showed up
32:26and wanted to run from.
32:27What did he say he came here for?
32:28Dope.
32:29Why?
32:30He said he's dope sick
32:31and he's trying to find some.
32:32Can I smack him around a little?
32:34Yeah, no.
32:35We're here a lot,
32:36so maybe we should change some things.
32:39This car's not involved here?
32:40I mean, you can talk to me if you want to, but...
32:46Hey, guys.
32:47I'm Tripper E-Force to the State Troopers.
32:48Just wondering if you guys saw anything today.
32:52Um...
32:56Okay.
32:57And what's your name, sir?
32:58What's your name, sir?
32:59.
33:00NCISD 46.
33:012729 times two witnesses.
33:02Name and date of birth for .
33:07We're on probation for escape in the third.
33:09Notify when contact.
33:11Okay.
33:12Trooper Eversky.
33:13Contact the probation officer.
33:14Probation officer asks for a search of the person.
33:17Hey, can you step out for me, please?
33:19Your probation officer just wants a search of your person.
33:23Done roughly, so...
33:24Yeah.
33:27Can you push something in there?
33:30All right.
33:31Just keep your hands up for me.
33:34During a search, he found a loaded syringe with a brown substance.
33:39What's in the needle?
33:41I'm not sure.
33:42I picked up one.
33:43Come on.
33:44I picked up two on the street, actually.
33:46All right.
33:47All right, yeah.
33:48I'm just...
33:49You're not under arrest when we went into Danny, okay?
33:50I'll get you on your back for me.
33:53My test is going to test positive for heroin or fentanyl.
33:55I'm still going with you.
33:58It's a brown liquid substance, consistent with tar heroin.
34:03And you can see this dark green color coming around the base right there.
34:07So that's a field test positive for heroin.
34:14I'll be going to jail for misconduct of vomit-controlled substances.
34:20It was the second person we found more controlled substances in her vehicle.
34:30Well, it's my jabs and stuff.
34:33Now, this is tar heroin, and this is crystal methamphetamine.
34:37Can you just walk this way?
34:38Can you find it?
34:39Right.
34:40That shows you right there what a simple encounter can turn into a short foot chase, a fight, multiple searches, and three people going to jail.
34:57I'm Trooper Wesley Booth.
35:10We're currently working night shift.
35:12It's 4.30 in the morning, and with the sun not setting, people being up all day, the constant daylight absolutely contribute to people's mental health or exaggerate underlying things that are there.
35:26So we just have to be ready to probably have a very busy night.
35:30We have a gentleman calling in, and he said people had marched him out of his house at gunpoint and that he's just sitting in his front yard.
35:39And like we all know, everybody in Alaska has a gun.
35:43So that is always something to keep in the back of the mind.
35:46We're going to go try to make contact, see exactly what's going on, but of course be cautious.
35:50We just have to assume he's probably going to be armed with something.
35:57Ready?
36:00Let's try to stick to the trees, and just try to listen first.
36:08Okay, let's just make sure we approach cautiously.
36:12Back home with 38B advisors, nobody out front.
36:15Are you ?
36:19Right out of the gate, his emotional state was elevated.
36:23Okay, we're going to walk over here.
36:27And there's people inside with guns.
36:28Okay, walk over here.
36:30They watched him hold me a gun player.
36:31They put a .45 in my face and told me they were going to have to kill anybody.
36:34Okay.
36:35There's people inside with guns.
36:36Yes, they were in .
36:37Okay.
36:38How many people are going to be in your house right now?
36:39Dude, you tell me, man.
36:40I can't tell you.
36:41You're the one who saw them.
36:42No idea.
36:44They put a .45 in my face and told me they were going to have to kill everybody.
36:46Okay.
36:47So you can tell me it's a .45, but you can't tell me how many people were in there.
36:48Really?
36:49I'm just trying to figure out.
36:50I don't know.
36:51Good way to start.
36:52We go over there and find out, man.
36:54Well, we're talking with you.
36:55They're over there trying to find out.
36:56You can't tell me how many people were in there.
36:58Really?
36:59I'm just trying to figure out.
37:00I don't know.
37:00Good way to start.
37:01Go over there and find out, man.
37:03Well, we're talking with you.
37:04They're over there trying to figure that out.
37:06When you get a gun, put it in your face, and they take it over, and they tell you.
37:09So you keep saying they, so is it more than one?
37:12Several people.
37:13There's a baby.
37:14A baby?
37:15Okay.
37:15I should slow down.
37:16I get it.
37:16I keep getting it.
37:17I get it.
37:18But we're trying to help you out.
37:21I don't know.
37:21All right.
37:22But you make it look like it's my fault, dude.
37:24No, we're not blaming you for anything.
37:26We just want to make sure everybody's safe.
37:29I can't.
37:3010-4, any evidence of people being there?
37:33They saw it, man.
37:34And then I walked down there.
37:36No evidence to anybody else.
37:37And I said, and I'm.
37:3910-4.
37:39There's nobody in your house.
37:41There's no evidence of people being in your house.
37:43If you can go, then we need to get my sister into this.
37:46This isn't made up, man.
37:49No.
37:49I don't know.
37:50That's a trooper.
37:52Have you been diagnosed with any mental health issues recently, sir?
37:55I'm not trying to be rude.
37:57I'm just trying to figure out exactly what's going on.
37:59Because I'm not smelling the alcohol, so I don't think you're drunk.
38:02No, I'm not.
38:02Can you do us a favor and go inside, get some sleep, and then call us back if you still feel the same way?
38:08They stole $8,500.
38:11Who?
38:11Who?
38:12Who?
38:13The perps, man.
38:14Okay.
38:15There's no evidence of anybody in your house.
38:20There's nobody there.
38:21There's nobody there.
38:22There's no one there.
38:24No one hit my gun.
38:26No, you're not.
38:27Oh, what happened, dude?
38:29With his current mental state, it's hard to know what he may or may not even have in the house.
38:33Go back inside and stay there.
38:34Once we got him in the house, we all left the area, and hopefully that just calms him right back down.
38:44His story was absolutely all over the place.
38:48A lot of signs telling me he's definitely hallucinating.
38:51I'm thinking a quick decline in mental health, and there's a possibility we'll start dealing with him a little bit more frequently in the future.
38:59I'm Trooper Trevor Norris.
39:18I've been a trooper for almost four years now.
39:21We're headed to a village today from Bethel on our vessel here.
39:26This is my partner, Trooper Comfort.
39:28Good friend, great American.
39:29We had a teacher housing that got broken into yesterday and vandalized.
39:36It's going to be about a half-hour boat ride.
39:38Hey, I'm just leaving Bethel and Ted, your way.
39:40Okay.
39:43The village police officers are meeting with us to take us through town.
39:48They end up being our local guides and local knowledge.
39:52So, you guys hearing anything about this teacher housing breaking?
39:56Yeah.
39:56What are you guys hearing?
39:57They're starting to hear rumors in the village of who it might have been, so we're going to follow up on that.
40:04This house, the one we're going to now, is supposed to be pretty tore up from the vandalism.
40:09I'm a preschool teacher in the winter, and then for summer and Christmas spring, I want to teach with you.
40:18It's broken future housing.
40:20It's really disappointing.
40:21It makes me think that my teacher friends aren't going to want to come back.
40:28The entirety of the house is destroyed.
40:31Every surface has got fire extinguisher dust on it and urine.
40:36There's a spray-painted phallic images on the walls.
40:39Everything's just scattered everywhere.
40:40That is a mess that I don't want to be the guy cleaning up.
40:46Those are pretty small.
40:47Right here, there's a couple footprints that appears this is probably a juvenile.
40:53So, we have two suspects.
40:54Both appear smaller-footed.
40:56So, I'm going to go talk to the other suspects.
41:00The other f*** here was one of the fellas that went in there.
41:03Did you see other boys f***?
41:05Huh?
41:06Yeah, my brother's son.
41:08As we've been talking to each person involved, they keep mentioning more names.
41:13My uncle.
41:14Who's your uncle?
41:15F***.
41:16That's all I know.
41:18Okay.
41:18Who all was in there with you?
41:20Just my friend.
41:21Only two people.
41:22What did you take?
41:23My uncle.
41:24Okay.
41:25This has quickly turned into most of the children in the village who participated in this teacher
41:32housing takeover.
41:36We weren't able to recover a Nintendo gaming device, but we're talking $5,000 for damage.
41:43In a situation like this, it's just not feasible to take 15 to 20 juveniles back to Bethel, all
