00:00We begin our news round-up in Cofilly, where the County Borough Council has been given a clean bill of
00:05health by an independent assessment panel.
00:08The review, required once every electoral cycle under Welsh law, found the authority is effectively fulfilling its functions despite rising
00:16demand and funding pressures facing councils across Wales and the UK.
00:21Chief Executive Richard Edmonds said inspectors spent four days lifting the bonnet on the organisation's performance, and while the findings
00:29were largely positive, the panel also made recommendations for improvement, with a special action plan now in place and progress
00:36to be reported quarterly.
00:39Plans have been submitted for a major housing development in Barrie.
00:43The proposal would see 70 affordable homes built on land east of Barrie Docks, south of Haysewood Road.
00:49The scheme forms part of the Vale of Glamorgan Council's wider housing delivery programme, which aims to build 2,500
00:56new homes by 2035.
00:58Developers say the site would provide a mix of apartments, family houses and accessible homes, alongside landscaping and green space,
01:06with low traffic levels due to the cul-de-sac layout.
01:09A decision is expected by 24th March.
01:13In Cardiff, an artist hub in the city centre has been given approval to add a new sauna space.
01:19Cardiff Council has approved plans for a movable timber sauna pod at Meanwhile House on Williams Way.
01:25The proposal includes sauna pods, ice baths and changing facilities.
01:30Planning officers said the low-impact, demountable design would bring unused land into beneficial use,
01:36and complement the site's existing role as a creative and wellbeing-focused hub.
01:42Plans have also been filed to refurbish the Glamorgan Heritage Coast Centre in Southern Down.
01:48The proposal includes a cafe extension, upgraded education and exhibition spaces, improved paths and picnic areas, and a relocated car
01:56park.
01:57Council Regeneration officers say the scheme could transform an underused site into a destination attraction,
02:04celebrating 14 miles of protected coastline that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.
02:12In Craig Yar, Cardiff Council has approved plans to refurbish and extend the local sports pavilion.
02:18The project includes new changing rooms, toilets, shower facilities and improved accessibility,
02:23alongside a roof extension designed to reflect the existing building.
02:29And finally, Bridge End County Borough Council has outlined how it plans to spend ÂŁ3 million of UK Government funding
02:37over the next two financial years.
02:39The money from the Pride in Place Impact Fund will support town centre regeneration
02:43and community infrastructure projects, including grants for community organisations.
02:49Officers warn that all funding must be spent by March 2027 or returned to the UK Government
02:55due to tight delivery timescales.
