00:01The government of Colombia announced on Tuesday the creation of a wealth tax
00:06targeted at companies with net assets exceeding 10 billion Colombian pesos
00:10as a measure to cover the damage caused by the devastating floods that have affected the country.
00:16The measure will exclude small and medium-sized enterprises,
00:20establishing a single rate of 0.6% on assets above the mentioned threshold,
00:25increased to 1.2% for those exceeding 30 billion pesos.
00:29The tax seeks to link companies through the recovery process and efforts to restore normality in the population.
00:36In this regard, Colombia's Minister of Finance, Germán Ávila,
00:39highlighted that the damage in the national area is estimated at 8 billion Colombian pesos,
00:44leaving at least 14 deaths, thousands of heads of cattle lost and communities displaced.
