Frogs contaminated with radiation from Chernobyl is revealing a surprise: evolution can adapt to high doses of radiation.

00:00One of the really interesting stories that we're talking about right now around our desks
00:03is about the effects of radiation that are being experienced and are causing effects
00:10around Chernobyl.
00:12In particular, the frogs around Chernobyl are starting to show signs of the mutations
00:19that can occur and the adaptations that can occur in the presence of high doses of radiation.
00:25In a recent study that our article focuses on, the scientists who looked at these frogs
00:32in Chernobyl also compared them to other cases of high radiation levels.
00:38In this particular case, there's a place called Ramsar, Iran, which has the highest naturally
00:43occurring levels of radiation in the world.
00:45The inhabitants there, however, contrary to what you might expect, don't grow ill.
00:49Instead, over generations, they've adapted.
00:52Remarkably, as in the case of these Chernobyl frogs, life finds a way to live in spite of radiation.
