00:00Chernobyl nuclear power station was once a symbol of great Russian pride.
00:09But others disagreed.
00:16On the 26th of April 1986, the unthinkable happened.
00:22The Act of 4 exploded with a force 20 times higher than Hiroshima and Nagasaki put together.
00:32People died horrifically. The Russians denied everything.
00:43People who spoke out became enemies of the state.
00:52And the disaster triggered the collapse of the USSR.
00:56Just a few weeks after, a young scientist was sent to investigate.
01:02Three decades later, he's back and determined to get some answers.
01:08He discovers radioactive contamination in the water source of 35 million people,
01:15threatening them with a toxic death.
01:18He visits abandoned towns that are post-apocalyptic nightmares.
01:24Finds out that highly irradiated houses were buried,
01:28then left to seek their poison into the river.
01:32Then, on the 24th of February 2022,
01:37the Russian military launched its all-out war on Ukraine.
01:42And on that very first day, they captured the Chernobyl plant.
01:46And marched 170 staff away.
01:51Nothing has been heard of them since.
01:54Then, Russian soldiers inexplicably dug trenches in the highly contaminated red zone,
02:01exposing themselves to unprecedented amounts of radiation.
02:06President Putin eyed up the plant as a potential weapon,
02:10whilst openly threatening nuclear war on the West.
02:13Just six weeks later, the Russians withdrew from Chernobyl,
02:17sending their irradiated troops home to die.
02:21And the same fate may await the 35 million people who live downstream.
02:28The Chernobyl power plant is
02:33a bomb that keeps ticking.
02:35King.
