00:00Elections in Japan, which consolidates Sanae Takahashi's power, are generating great concern in China.
00:06The superiority obtained by the Liberal Democratic Party opens the door to reforms,
00:12specifically the revision of Article 9 of the Constitution, which limits Japan's participation in military conflicts.
00:19Our correspondent in Beijing, Bruno Fauci, provides us more details.
00:22Greetings, comrades. Direct here from Beijing, we bring you the latest developments from the elections in Japan
00:33that consolidated the Prime Minister, Sanae Takahashi, power with a resounded victory,
00:40reforcing a political and militaristic agenda, with a direct implication for the stability of the Asia-Pacific region.
00:50The Liberal Democratic Party secured a two-thirds supermajority in the House of Representatives,
01:00ensuring an ample room to pass constitutional reforms.
01:05From China, here, the government expressed a deep concern.
01:10Its spokesperson warned of the new Japanese government intention to revise the Article 9 of the Constitution,
01:21which prohibits Japan from participating in wars, as well as the increase of military spending
01:29and the expansion of the role of the armed forces in the region,
01:35a change that Beijing considered dangerous for regional peace and international order.
01:41Let's hear the words of the spokeperson.
01:45We urge the Japanese government to address the concerns of the international community,
01:52instead of ignoring them, to pursue a path of peaceful development,
01:55instead of retreating down the path of militarism,
01:58and to respect the first political documents between China and Japan,
02:02instead of breaking their word.
02:04If Japan's far-right forces misinterpret the situation and act recklessly,
02:08they will inevitably encounter resistance from the Japanese people
02:12and suffer a severe blow from the international community.
02:17The spokeperson also urged Japan to retract Takashi's statement on Taiwan,
02:25in which she suggested that the conflict in the strait could justify a Japanese military response,
02:33which Beijing considers an interference in its internal affairs and threat of the regional peace.
02:42China reiterated that, in the accordance of United Nations Assembly,
02:48a resolution there is only one China and Taiwan is part of it,
02:54a principle recognized by the international community, including Japan.
03:00For Beijing, the outcome of the election in Japan is not just an internal matter,
03:07but a factor that could increase instability in the Asia-Pacific region,
03:13at a time when the region needs dialogue, multilateralism and a commitment to peace.
