00:00As I said on the tease, I think many people were so hurt by the Texans' loss
00:06because they thought they were close.
00:08They thought they were close.
00:09I think even last week coming into the Super Bowl, we were in San Francisco.
00:14Many people talking about they were close.
00:16That's why it hurts so much.
00:18Damn that, CJ.
00:20I just, yeah.
00:23You still feel that way?
00:25You still feel the Texans are close?
00:26You still feel like watching that Patriots team that really beat you in a game
00:34that went real close just get absolutely dog-walked in every manner by Seattle?
00:40Do you get a chance?
00:41I'll let you answer first.
00:42I see some people texting in.
00:43Do you feel like they're close now after the season has ended
00:47and what we've seen now in the Super Bowl?
00:50Oh, yeah.
00:50I think they're close.
00:51You do?
00:53I think they're close.
00:54I think they've got to make a serious, serious push on the offensive side
01:02of the football to sign difference makers.
01:04I just, and I don't know that you can do both, keep your defense together
01:08and do that.
01:10I don't think they're Super Bowl contender worthy right now,
01:14but I think if they add the right pieces on offense, I think they could be.
01:16Yeah.
01:17Yeah, so you didn't watch that?
01:19Because I watched that and I was like, well, they're not close to Seattle.
01:23No, I don't think either one of those teams.
01:27Or the Rams, to be honest with you.
01:29Like, both, like, that was, like, I just watched it.
01:31I'm like, if that, if that is who they got to be to win a championship,
01:36I'm like, whew.
01:38Yeah.
01:38Well, the NFC is significantly better than the AFC.
01:41And, of course, that is just this year.
01:42But.
01:43Yeah.
01:43But I think, I think right now, I think the NFC, the teams are better.
01:47The overall teams are better than the AFC right now.
01:51But do I think in this present AFC right now, as it appears to be down,
01:56I don't know if it was just a year.
01:57Yeah.
01:58Or if the trajectory's downward.
02:00Could they, could, with the right moves this offseason, could they be,
02:05absolutely.
02:05I think the Texans are a couple of moves.
02:07And if it's star power type moves, it'll swing the national media in a major way.
02:13I think they're a couple of moves away from, from being real, like, giving them,
02:18even with the warts that they have, you know, I think they're a couple of moves
02:22away from being, being definitely AFC championship caliber.
02:28Back in that conversation.
02:29Yeah.
02:29713-572-4610.
02:32Jump in.
02:33Tyler will get a line for you.
02:34Larry, after watching this, watching the Super Bowl.
02:37So, do you get the sense that the Texans are close?
02:41Go ahead.
02:42Oh, yeah.
02:43I definitely think we're close.
02:45I agree with Clint.
02:46You know, it all depends on what we do in the offseason.
02:48Now, if we try to just run it back with what we had, then no.
02:52But if we make some moves, especially on the offensive side, yeah,
02:56we're right in the mix.
02:57Especially AFC champions.
02:59All right.
03:00Larry said right in the mix.
03:02Ah.
03:03Hmm.
03:04I just, I watched this season and I felt like this was so unique and, and
03:10almost maybe their best opportunity right now, just because the way, the, the
03:16way that it's set up and I just, I got a, and there's nothing saying that they
03:23won't get better.
03:24I just had a hard time feeling like, all right, that these other teams that we're
03:28seeing are going to come back into the fold and they are going to rise to the
03:34level to get to that.
03:35Cause I think, I think they were very fortunate.
03:37Cause as you said, there was no Seahawks or Rams lurking on this side of the
03:43bracket all season.
03:44I don't know that that's going to be the case.
03:47I think if they, I think they're, I would say they're probably Clint there.
03:54I think they're there in the AFC right now.
03:56I think you could, I think you could at least say that, but to win a Superbowl,
04:00I don't know about that.
04:02And it was like, and that's what you're saying.
04:04Like the things you're talking about, Oh, like what things are you saying?
04:07Like this is, if they get this now, here we go.
04:10Now I can see them competing with the best of the best.
04:12Well, I just don't think you have to be great offensively.
04:14That's, that's the thing that's changed for me.
04:16Like I definitely, I think they're, they're, I mean, be honest with you.
04:21I think they're just a regular old Nick Casario, D'Amico Ryan's offensive
04:25off season away from being competitive in the AFC.
04:28I just, I mean, the, when you talk about complete teams, I think the one in the
04:36AFC, correct me if I'm wrong though, Ron, I may be leaving somebody out.
04:39I think the one complete team in the AFC was the new England Patriots in terms of
04:46how they played in the regular season.
04:47And then, and then it became, it became obvious that offensively they, they
04:52weren't quite what the regular season told us they were because they've got a
04:56younger quarterback and, and obviously I think they're limited on offense.
05:00I think yesterday takes out of the game stinks yesterday takes the weather part
05:03out.
05:04Yeah.
05:04Yeah.
05:04I mean, well, I think we saw who new England is yesterday against that level of
05:07talent.
05:10So I think the best overall team in the AFC, I think was the Patriots.
05:12And you, you look at the AFC, Denver's got a great defense, young, young, inexperienced
05:17quarterback.
05:17That's learning, right?
05:19You, I mean, maybe Jacksonville, you can say veteran quarterback, great play
05:23caller, good defense.
05:25Maybe they're the second best overall team in the AFC, you know, Buffalo struggled
05:29defensively.
05:30And then he ended up messing the bed in the playoffs and Texans, obviously, you know,
05:33we're, we're headlined by the, by the, the defense.
05:36And so the, the, the overall teams that are better, uh, I think are on the defensive
05:41side of the football.
05:42Everybody else is one sided.
05:44Um, and I think the Texans are, uh, again, I think there are a couple of quiet moves
05:48away from, from being good enough.
05:51You don't even think major, you don't even think major moves.
05:53I don't think you're winning a suit without major moves, but I do think you, you bring
05:57Ed Ingram back, right?
05:58You bring, you, you, you bring, um, Trent Brown back.
06:03Um, you know, I think you get Joe Mixon, if he can play or, or somebody in of that ilk
06:07that's more, that's probably a major that's if you're getting the Joe Mixon, that just
06:11well, yeah, but I'm not saying go out and get somebody else, but I'm saying you get,
06:15you get a Joe Mixon back and they think he can play and he can play.
06:18I mean, that's somebody that's in the house right now.
06:20So I just don't think that you're, you're not just miles away from being that caliber team
06:26and, and, and the whole point is, is you don't have to be, you don't have to be great
06:30on offense.
06:32I don't think the landscape of the AFC is changing that much.
06:35I don't think so.
06:36Yeah, no, I, I just, as good as our defense is, I think, I think an average offense and
06:43let's say average is not, cause how do you, how do you determine average, right?
06:45Let's say, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, offense where the, the play caller and the quarterback seem
06:51to be on one accord and bought into each other and, and, and really.
06:56Doing the best that they can together and everybody's working together and it doesn't
07:00seem to be a struggle to fit.
07:01And, and I think you add a couple of pieces, small pieces.
07:04I think, I think you're good enough to compete in the AFC.
07:07All right.
07:08Let's get to, uh, Eddie, Eddie phone lines open 713-572-4610.
07:13Now that we've seen this season playoff play out, do you think that the Texans are close
07:18to winning a Superbowl?
07:19Eddie, go ahead.
07:21Hey, afternoon, gentlemen.
07:22I want to say the Texans are close, but how can you be close when your franchise player,
07:27your quarterback is broken and this man is broken, period.
07:32The dude, the, the, the Texans not, he's regressing.
07:36We've all seen it.
07:37And the thing of it is this organization has never been out of the divisional round.
07:40And we've all heard that phrase, organizations win championships.
07:44So you look at the Texans and you juxtapose that to the LA Rams.
07:47Here's what the LA Rams have done.
07:49They've won a Superbowl in their recent history.
07:52They made it to the NFC championship game this year.
07:55They have the reigning MVP on their squad.
07:58And what do they do?
08:00They go out and get clicks, Cliff Kingsbury.
08:02They add, they find a spot on there.
08:05Hey, I ain't gonna argue with that one, Eddie.
08:07I ain't gonna argue with that spot for him.
08:09And they, and they do that.
08:11This team, what do we do?
08:12We don't even change quarterback coaches.
08:15So, so are we close?
08:18Yeah.
08:18I want to say we're close, but this team burns me up that we're not adding anybody to the
08:24staff.
08:24Kingsbury was the hottest OC in football two years ago.
08:27He had, he organized the greatest rookie campaign ever for a quarterback.
08:32And the only reason he's on the street right now is because of the personality conflict with
08:36the Redskins, or sorry, the commanders head coach.
08:39So what do the Texans do?
08:41Nothing.
08:41The Rams find a way to bring in talent.
08:44That's why they're always competing.
08:46They're in Superbowls or in NFC championship games.
08:49What are the Texans doing?
08:50Not a damn thing.
08:52So are we close?
08:53I want to think we are.
08:54You don't sound like you do.
08:56Yeah.
08:57Yeah.
08:57I mean, two things can be, we can be close.
09:00Like, I mean, I think he, he wants to believe it.
09:02I think, like, I mean, I think he, I think he's pissed off because he knows we're close and
09:06they're not making the moves to push it over the goal line.
09:09Yeah.
09:09I mean, two things can be true.
09:10I mean, you, I like, look, I think, I think close.
09:14I don't think CJ Stroud takes his team.
09:15As I've said, as I've said many times, I don't think CJ Stroud takes his team to a, to a Superbowl
09:20for multiple reasons.
09:21I don't think he's a fit in this system.
09:22I think the lights are too bright.
09:23I don't, I don't think he's a caliber leader.
09:25I think there's a, a laundry list of things for me on CJ Stroud, but I think, I think you're
09:30close.
09:30I mean, let's be honest.
09:32I mean, if you just, you don't have to have a, like this year, you didn't have to have a
09:36crazy amount.
09:37You didn't have to have Matthew Stafford at quarterback to make it to a Superbowl.
09:40Drake may was there.
09:40You didn't have to have a, a, a, a, a Brady level elite processor to get there.
09:48Drake may was there and, and couldn't figure out what the hell was going on deep on, on
09:51versus Seattle's defense.
09:52I mean, look, even across the board, as great as Seattle was, they were there and won the
09:57damn thing.
09:57And their quarterback threw for 200 yards and missed two touchdowns, right?
10:01I mean, so you don't, you don't have to be, I mean, you can, you can be close and still
10:06have the warts that the Texans have that that's I'm, I'm feel like I'm kind of where
10:10Eddie's at was, I don't, I don't have any confidence that they're going to win one,
10:13but I can also agree that they're close.
10:15I just, this is where I think maybe me and you see a little differently.
10:18I like, I, I don't think the AFC's offenses are going to look the way it did this year.
10:25I don't like, I don't know if you're going to be able to just go into games in the AFC
10:30next year and say, all right, man, just play really good defense.
10:35Don't beat yourself.
10:36And you can, you can advance like you could this year.
10:40Cause I, I think, I think Josh Allen and the bills are probably going to be improved.
10:45I think Lamar Jackson and the Ravens are probably going to be an offense in which you just can't
10:51walk in there and just say, all right, man, let's solid fence and not ruin it.
10:55I think the chiefs with my homes, when he gets back and Andy Reed and what they're doing,
11:00I think you're going to have to score against them.
11:02I think the Bengals probably, or a team that could, that could come back.
11:05I think this was such a unique year.
11:08I'm not saying that, that the Texans defense won't allow them to compete.
11:12I just think offense.
11:15I don't think offense around the AFC is going to be to the level of it, what that it was
11:20this year to where you just, I mean, you didn't, many games out, as you said it before,
11:26in the crosstalk, many games outside of the Josh Allen game, like, I mean, if you don't
11:31turn it over, you don't mess up.
11:33Like you, you, you got a chance to win.
11:34I don't know if it's going to be to that level.
11:36No, I agree with you.
11:37Look, I think that opportunity has passed.
11:40I mean, that ship has sailed, but I do believe that our defense is good enough here in Houston.
11:45Uh, look, I know there's a lot of talk about these defenses in, in, in the NFL.
11:50I mean, in, in the, in the playoffs, uh, personally, this was a dominated defensive year and playoff
11:56in a year where there's a lot of really, really good dominant defenses.
12:01My opinion, I think the Texans are on a whole different planet.
12:05Really?
12:06My absolutely.
12:07For me, for me personally, I do even watching last night.
12:10Absolutely.
12:11Okay.
12:11All right.
12:12Well, hell let's go into the next conversation.
12:13Cause that's, that's what I was going to say in your mind.
12:15You watch that.
12:16We watch them every week.
12:17The Seattle, Seattle's defense kind of steer you to think, I don't know if the Texans were
12:23just all, all outright, the dominant defense this year.
12:27They, uh, they put, they put new England in a damn, I mean, in a hole, a choke hole throughout
12:35the game.
