00:00Sudan's Kordofan region has not been immune to drone strikes during the country's nearly
00:05three-year civil war, but a new wave of fatal attacks is stirring, mounting concerns.
00:12The UN has warned both the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have used advanced
00:17drone weaponry during the last two weeks, and that civilians in the region are at increasing
00:22risk of suffering the same intensity of human rights abuses that were committed in Al Fasher.
00:28Fighting there has intensified since the capture of Al Fasher.
00:32Drone strikes by both sides continue, resulting in dozens of civilian deaths and injuries.
00:39Civilians are at risk of summary executions, sexual violence, arbitrary detention and family
00:45separation.
00:46The UN Human Rights Chief also said he had visited Al Fasher since last October, when the Rapid
00:51Support Forces unleashed a wave of deadly violence.
00:56He said first-hand accounts described mass killings, summary executions, rapes, sexual
01:02violence and torture, and were consistent with the International Criminal Court's assessment
01:07that both war crimes and crimes against humanity took place.
01:11We heard convincing testimony that some victims were targeted based on their non-Arab ethnicity,
01:19in particular members of the Sargawa ethnic group.
01:24Survivors also spoke of seeing piles of dead bodies along roads leading away from Al Fasher,
01:30in an apocalyptic scene that one person likened to the Day of Judgment.
01:37The situation in Sudan has been described as the world's worst humanitarian crisis, with
01:42thousands of people killed and more than 12 million people forced from their homes since
01:47the conflict began in April 2023.
01:51However, the UN chief warned, worse is yet to come, unless the international community takes
01:57decisive steps to stop the fighting.
