Electric boda bodas offer cleaner rides and new jobs in Uganda

Motorcycle taxis are among the fastest and most affordable ways to get around East Africa, and in Uganda they are widely known as boda bodas. Thousands crisscross city streets every day, especially in the capital Kampala, where traffic congestion and limited public transport make them essential.

00:18This pipe doesn't emit, so there's no environment pollution,
00:24so it helps to keep good of our health.
00:29For passengers, they're affordable, and for drivers, electric bikes cut costs even more.
00:36The fuel is expensive compared to the amount of money that you used to get a battery.
00:41And these are where some of the electric bikes are being built, creating jobs and new skills for local communities.
00:48That's my dream job, and I'm liking it.
00:51We are acquiring things that we are never on the ground in this country.
00:55New technology, new skills, so we are catching up with the skills.
00:58Urban air pollution is a global problem, but with the rise of electric bikes, this is slowly changing in the Ugandan capital.
