Transcript
00:00The End
00:24Thanks, Leslie.
00:26Is there somebody shouting at my door?
00:28my door shot it's shocking seven people in the house children and have they come into your house
00:35yes somebody's outside somebody shut the door nobody nobody nobody near the door come back
00:42do you know who could have done it have you seen anybody oh no idea no idea all right we're on the
00:48way all right just stay on the line with me please i have children in the house please we're gonna
00:56get there but calm down and get there as soon as we can okay
01:26it's crucial that we find the truth
01:33got to question everything believe nobody
01:37it's almost a game of chess trying to slip up this is your opportunity to talk to me
01:52yes potential sighting the suspect
01:59that's received
02:02intelligence shines a light on areas of humanity that other people never see
02:09we've got an ic3 male on the drive to the rear of the vehicle in my career i've seen an awful lot of
02:16criminality i was the intelligence manager for westminster bridge terrorist attack
02:24intel state suspect may carry firearms hold position
02:29subsequent to that the finsbury park terrorist attack grenfell tower
02:35honestly i can say that when this landed on my desk it surprised and shocked me
02:40okay team mr rodenhurst has kindly agreed to come and open our day so over to you sir okay um morning
02:49everyone i wanted to come along because today is a really significant day nationally you are part of
02:55a national operation i'm going to tell you a little bit about it before i do no mobile phones twitter
03:02tweets social media recording of any of this because actually it's embargoed
03:07in essence it is the most significant operation i can recall tackling serious of an organized crime
03:14in my entire service the national crime agency working with other european partners
03:19have got access to data of a criminal secure encrypted telecommunications platform
03:26encro phones those phones just to give you context cost three grand and you buy one
03:32because you think you can talk to someone else who's got one completely freely so if you're willing
03:38to spend three thousand pounds on a device you're probably a half decent player in the organized crime
03:43world so they may be sophisticated but the individuals who are going after today their weaknesses
03:49they're greedy and they always think it's never going to happen to them so hopefully today in
03:53bedfordshire it is on that note we need to go and do some business so big thank you and good luck today
04:02and crow chat is a really secure piece of software it's been used by organized crime groups to speak
04:16to each other in complete privacy
04:23oh please keep out your hands on show what they do not know however is that it's been compromised by law
04:29enforcement this is compelling they're talking about a importation from columbia to analyze data lifted
04:46from encro chat a specialist team is handpicked at short notice from across bedfordshire police
04:52and each is sworn to secrecy its code name operation costello so he sent him a picture and then
05:05to see unfiltered completely unredacted messaging between criminal networks
05:11this is unprecedented so he's talking about can't do pregnant on these it's something to do with
05:19um impregnating fish with drugs and these aren't the people that are dealing on the street these are
05:25the middle and upper tier offenders the people that are operating in the shadows this is a vast network
05:43crossing national international boundaries so here we've got him again talking to this person scorpion
05:49vip ltn our task is to identify who these handles operating in bedfordshire belong to in the real world
05:59but this is really a race against time
06:02if we don't act quickly information and evidence will be disposed of
06:09this is a confidential operation the first of a series that we're going to be undertaking
06:13over the next few weeks among the 66 000 worldwide users of encro chat is a sophisticated network of
06:22organized criminals operating out of luton they are behind the shotgun attack on a family home
06:30and i'll just be where the radio is in case the team enforce dynamically as we have this briefing so
06:36the shooters fled the country but by analyzing messages the team have traced a local drug supplier
06:43who claims to have provided the weapon he's known by his encro handle front runner subject one is ethan
06:51mitchell he's believed to be a large supplier within the luton area the surveillance team are out at
06:58the moment ethan mitchell leaves his home address this morning the team will jump on and arrest him
07:03is there any update from the batting team
07:08negative
07:16suspect cited leading the address
07:25suspect gets into a wide lb
07:27uh
07:44it's going your way it's going your wife i'll stop
07:46oh my god
08:07where's the audi
08:07what's he wearing anybody's seeing what he's wearing
08:29yes dark clothing dark clothing
08:33yes confirmed uh
08:34he's the Mitchell is the driver all black clothing
08:45say that
08:46say it
08:46say it
08:47say it
08:49good car
08:50good car
08:51thanks car
08:54one encroaching
08:55all right ethan i'm arresting your suspicion of conspiracy to supply class a drugs
08:59you know i'm saying anybody may have defense do not mention
09:01when questions something which you like rely on quite anything you say may be given evidence
09:14with ethan mitchell in custody
09:16detectives search for his encrypted encro phone to prove that he is front runner
09:21that's not
09:27that's not here
09:28encro chat devices are far more expensive than your average device although it looks the same
09:35that's his number yeah which links him to this encro
09:38yeah
09:40we know it's evidence that somebody's going to fire a son off through a door um and the words are
09:45i'll let i'll enter my chassis we have got hundreds of thousands of lines of data
09:52it's unique in that we can use it in evidence is there anything there but of course finding
09:58things like drugs and cash or devices show that yeah that information you've got from encro chat is
10:04right okay no encro yeah but we've still got quite a bit to search so okay cheers bye bye
10:10and we don't know what else they've got yet no no we need to just slow down yeah see what's up
10:16have been at the premises and decide on a way forward yeah
10:24the intelligence around ethan mitchell was that he was linked to drugs supply and also a shotgun
10:46incident yeah his attribution is going to be key if we don't get the device which doesn't sound like we
10:52have without physical evidence from ethan mitchell's address the team must rely on the hacked encro chat
10:59messages to build their case that he is front runner but revealing the intel shared by european
11:07police so early in the operation could alert thousands of other criminals and mean they drop their phones
11:14if you reveal this in interview he's then going to know immediately that we've had months
11:19of data and as a direct consequence he will then tell everybody else and it will reveal
11:27what we're trying to do is protect the information for as long as we can yeah as soon as we reveal any
11:32of this information interview the chance of working our way upstream is gone so what we have now is a
11:38collapsing time frame as soon as this information breaks that will send ripples across the criminal
11:44fraternity we'll have to see how what comes out of the search yeah yeah yeah yeah they know it's
11:50probably only a matter of time until it's them that's next absolutely it is priority number one
11:55that we send this man to prison we've got more information than they realize but and we're running
12:01out of time oh m g o m g white brown white brown he has a problem should i give the boss the good news
12:15yeah
12:19in the back of the van is a wash bag full of white and brown
12:22i would say it's probably half to the kilo oh excellent
12:30yeah okay thank you fine found one and a half kilos in mitchell's van oh brilliant yeah
12:40finding drugs in a van near ether mitchell's family home gives the team enough physical evidence to
12:46switch strategy they can interview him about the drugs without revealing the intelligence gained
12:52from the hack
12:56the likes of ethan mitchell he's probably lower down that's why all the stuff's around his house
13:00it buys time to identify his crime bosses higher up the network before they realize encro chat has been
13:06compromised an organized crime group is comprised of lots of different tiers some of these people will
13:12not get their hands dirty that's all you can do warrants all day long and you won't get them with
13:18stuff i think that these people are they're almost unknown to them no yeah it's previously been very
13:26hard for us to identify middle and upper tier they don't even have a parking ticket without this
13:32information they would never have crossed our paths
13:34this provides us a golden opportunity to bring these people to justice
13:48can excite my right to no comment for the whole interview and not reply of course you can yeah
13:52right further going no comment no yeah there's a transit van inside the cabin black colored bag
14:01has been recovered it's containing white and brown powder it's suspected the powder is cocaine and heroin
14:08where did you get them from you holding them for someone else
14:13have you been put under any duress to hold those drugs
14:19mum's the registered owner on that van you aware of any involvement she has in drug dealing
14:25no problem at no point do you want to distance your family to the mess you're finding yourself in
14:31at the moment be very easy to distance yourself from them you know but you're unwilling to do that as well
14:43he must be thinking i potentially i'm not going to see the light of day another eight or nine years now
14:49so you're going to be charged with the following offense contrary to section 53 and schedule 4
15:02with the misuse of drugs act having your possession 1.3 kilograms of cocaine with intent to supply it to
15:08another person
15:20so a message was released by encro chat to alert their users that there had been a compromise
15:25what they don't know however is who is behind it or what information has been obtained
15:31police storm premises in what's being called the biggest law enforcement operation ever in the uk
15:37made possible by infiltrating an encrypted messaging system used exclusively by criminals
15:49so far in this operation over 650 people have been arrested
15:57on a daily basis kilos are being recovered
16:01oh
16:0670 firearms been seized oh there's a lot of catching here over 50 million pounds has been seized
16:13and these devices
16:15an organized crime group may lose a few moa tier offenders
16:23but as quickly as those people get arrested somebody else will come in
16:26at the very top there'll be a principal nominal who is pulling the strings
16:35if we truly want to dismantle organized crime groups the ultimate way to do that is to cut the head
16:41off the snake so it's really important to identify who that person is
16:55so
16:57the operation costello team have arrested and charged a number of lower tier members of an organized crime
17:22group including ethan mitchell but the true identities of those higher up the network remain unknown
17:32whereabouts is the gun messaging the national crime agency share their intel on a high-ranking
17:37drugs and arms dealer who is running the network he uses multiple encro handles and is known as uncle
17:46so let's just be really clear on what we're looking at here we believe that uncle receives or sends a message
17:56what could be like the boss on two occasions receives that message right which is basically a list of
18:04firearms and that's an an impressive array of firearms show this to nephew i have these available to sell
18:12it is that increases the need to move on it so for the last few days we've been working really hard
18:21to identify an individual who we know as uncle the encro chat heavily implicates this person uncle
18:30with the supply and distribution of a menu of firearms and ammunition and when we say menu
18:38we really mean a menu don't we two ak-47s one tech nine one uzi one all black scorpion push-on suppressor
18:48and one mac liquor nine mil 20 round mag i've got no idea what half of that stuff is but it sounds deadly
18:58the working hypothesis is that uncle is a very high level organized criminal who is pulling all the
19:05strings and he indicates that he intends to leave the country to travel we believe to dubai on a
19:11private plane so we need to do everything we can in the next couple of hours to try and bottom out
19:16so not good news i spoke to somebody at the national airline traffic yeah no flights left at that time
19:29the first flight i think was at about nine point the following morning to dubai can we check the
19:35manifest for that one when you're running an operation of this scale and size it's really important to
19:41think on your feet constantly says here i'll transfer this gadget to nephew so he's obviously got another
19:46device yeah yeah so i think uncle does not readily use these devices uncle whoever is is clearly much
19:54much higher up yeah this operation started small and i know that this will grow and grow and grow
20:00and every day something new comes in we just haven't got enough at the minute we need that final
20:06link don't we we need to follow the breadcrumbs in order to prevent something terrible from happening
20:13to somebody the secret operation costello team have been together for a month today details about
20:26coordinated police operations across europe will be briefed to the world's press everybody here
20:32yes today we've got multiple warrants to conduct um in relation to three subjects part of a criminal
20:40network involved in this offense but uncle's true identity is still unknown his messages named three
20:47suspects believed to be mid-tier members of his network operating above ethan mitchell selling and
20:52storing wholesale quantities of drugs they must be arrested before the network goes dark
20:58we are looking at a male called kamran basheer and ibraz iqbal kamran basheer he is dealing in multi
21:09kilos of class a drugs and there's also intelligence to suggest that he has access to a handgun and that
21:18he stores at his russian girlfriend's address she's heavily involved has contacts with the unidentified uncle
21:28kamran basheer is under control of the surveillance team this morning and will be followed off from
21:33his home address
21:42the first suspect kamran basheer aka nephew is on his way to work so becky's very clear that he's
22:04good to be intercepted upon out getting out of the car the other arrests can only be made once
22:15basheer's car has been stopped so he doesn't realize what's happening and alert them to ditch their
22:20encro phones
22:23as soon as we've got hands-on basheer they can do it
22:41is he nearly there
22:49gonna be devastated
22:53just want him out of the car
23:15detectives are tracking three more suspects believed to work for an organized crime boss known as uncle
23:21he's not there
23:25he's not there police
23:31grab me off
23:33he's under arrest
23:33he's going to be sure yeah
23:37yeah
23:37he's going to be sure yeah
23:39he's going to be sure yeah
23:39he's going to be sure yeah
23:40yeah
23:40there's command to team leaders please move forward and execute your warrants
23:46Right, secure, secure, secure!
23:48Go down, go down.
23:49Yeah, yeah, yeah, go back.
23:53Right, go, go, go!
23:54OK.
24:00Confirm if the file's at the location, please.
24:03I'm here under arrest from suspicion of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.
24:17Have you ever been arrested before?
24:19No, so it's the first time for everybody.
24:23With all three suspects in custody,
24:25detectives search Cameron Bashir's workplace for his Encro phone
24:29and further prove that he's a middle-tier manager of the criminal network.
24:33We've got evidence that he's been dealing from the back of the premises,
24:36but I'm not sure exactly where.
24:38Can you pop the boot for us, please?
24:40Hi, boss, how are you doing?
24:42All right, that's a real quick one.
24:44Yep.
24:45I've been doing regional media problems.
24:48That's mine?
24:49Yeah.
24:50That's mine?
24:51Yeah.
24:52I'm just looking at a bag in the boot of a car with a load of cash in it.
24:55How are you?
24:56Yeah.
24:57And I can tell you it's how much?
25:01A lot.
25:02A lot of cash.
25:09We've got two phones.
25:11Among 42 devices found at the suspect's addresses
25:15are three Encro phones using handles linked to Uncle's network.
25:21The Encro device implicates Iqbal.
25:24Yeah.
25:25In addition to that, you've got about one and a half kilos of what we believe to be coke.
25:29The phones are attributed to Cameron Bashir and Ibraz Iqbal
25:33by matching them with the known movements of their regular mobiles.
25:37With this operation, we're breaking new ground.
25:39We're exploring a technology that we didn't know very much about.
25:43If you could just stand back.
25:44Got seconded in specialists in digital forensics and cyber.
25:49It's a once in a career opportunity.
25:52This will help us to better understand the network for a long time to come.
25:58Mr Bashir, I'm going to be authorising your detention here at the police station.
26:01That means you'll be with us here for a number of hours
26:04so that the officers involved can interview you about the offence.
26:07OK?
26:08Have you had any alcohol or drugs over the course of the last 24 hours?
26:10Did I get to put it to my mum?
26:11No, no, not at all.
26:15That's interesting.
26:16What have you got in your mind when you think about a criminal?
26:19Not Cameron Bashir.
26:20No.
26:21Not someone that looks like my GP.
26:25The people using EncroChat are otherwise unassuming.
26:30What was going on, hidden in plain sight, right under our nose.
26:34It does make you question whether you've been looking in the right places.
26:39The hope with the interviews is that they will tell us
26:42who is it that they're answerable to.
26:46Now that Costello and its sister operations have been made public,
26:51the team decide to reveal their intel in the hope it will persuade the suspects
26:56to give up Uncle and his senior associates.
26:59OK. I want to talk to you about the EncroChat phone.
27:04This black clock is your mobile phone, and this represents the EncroChat.
27:09Can you account for why the EncroChat is using the same mass as your own phone
27:13for such a long period of time?
27:14Not coming.
27:15Not coming.
27:16Locker 32.
27:17That is a locker that we believe is yours.
27:20Not coming.
27:21Not coming.
27:22OK.
27:23Well, in that locker, we found an encrypted device.
27:27Not coming.
27:28Does VIP Cocker mean anything to you?
27:30Not coming.
27:33Or the nickname Bash?
27:34Not coming.
27:35Not coming.
27:36I've chatted with a device name of VIP Boss LTM.
27:41They're talking about prices.
27:44Don't understand the question, but not coming.
27:47Could this be price regarding the purchase of Class O drugs?
27:50No.
27:52He sends you this photo.
27:54Not coming.
27:55It's quite damning, isn't it?
27:56It's not coming.
27:57You can only send those photos that you've taken.
28:00No comment.
28:01No comment.
28:02It's Ibraz Iqbal forcing you to keep hold of those drugs.
28:08What's the structure of your business?
28:10No comment.
28:11Who's the boss?
28:12No comment.
28:13Is it you?
28:14No comment.
28:15You use the name VIP Boss Luton.
28:18Are you just cocky?
28:20And you use that name?
28:23You're scared of your price.
28:27Sure you're not being forced to do something against your women?
28:31No comment.
28:40Right, guys, can we just gather round, please?
28:42Let's get on with this.
28:43Please be open-minded.
28:46We know for sure that there is a safe somewhere which is full of cash.
28:50With Cameron Bashir and Ibraz Iqbal both refusing to cooperate,
28:54detectives focus on Bashir's girlfriend.
28:57She's got like £1,200 pairs of shoes but £500 in debt with her water bill and stuff.
29:02The messages reveal that Uncle directed his workers to a safe full of cash
29:06buried beneath a garage before fleeing to Dubai.
29:09It's crucial physical evidence which could identify him.
29:16He entrusts its location to someone who calls themselves the Russian Lady.
29:21Firstly, she doesn't want a brief.
29:24And secondly, we think she might tell us the whole tale about what's been going on.
29:30And we're missing the safe in the garage floor.
29:32So we didn't manage to identify this Uncle then?
29:36Not yet, but I'm hopeful she might help us with that because she knows who he is.
29:40Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
29:42I think we should just play our card, frankly.
29:44I don't think we've got anything to lose now. It's out there in the public domain.
29:46If you're able to crack who Uncle is, then...
29:50There's no pressure, is there?
29:52Don't worry.
30:00So how do you know Cameron Bashir?
30:02Where did you meet him?
30:03Let's say on the streets.
30:10OK. So where does he live?
30:12He's living in his mum's house.
30:14And do you see him every day?
30:16He's coming for one hour, yeah. For one hour in the area.
30:20That's it?
30:22OK.
30:23Are you happy with that arrangement?
30:25Not too much, but he's working.
30:28Have you ever met his mum? No. Have you met any of his family?
30:33No.
30:35OK.
30:37Do you know what an encrypted phone is?
30:41This is what?
30:43If I told you that we believe that you have used Cameron's encrypted mobile phone
30:50to send messages, what would you say about that?
30:53OK.
30:55Have you ever referred to anybody as Uncle before?
30:58As Encro.
30:59Uncle. Uncle. Uncle.
31:01Uncle. Like relative.
31:02Uncle.
31:03Auntie and Uncle.
31:04I don't know. They have uncle, aunties of the full family.
31:08Of course, yeah. Maybe I need to be a bit more specific.
31:12Have you ever used an Encro phone and sent messages to somebody called Uncle?
31:18No.
31:19No.
31:21OK.
31:23What I'm going to do is read through some messages, OK?
31:25A message comes in.
31:29Are you awake, nephew?
31:31I've got a key.
31:33It's in a pot.
31:35In reply to that, should I pass him your messages, Uncle?
31:39Is that you replying on behalf of the camera?
31:42No, I'm not.
31:44And Uncle replies, don't call me please until I get to Dubai.
31:48No.
31:51And the reply to that is, it's only 194 there.
31:55You took all Uncle.
31:57The rest is in the floor safe in the garage.
32:00Just move the car if it needs the money.
32:02You know, it don't mean anything to you.
32:04At all.
32:06You might check cameras if I'm lying and you didn't either.
32:10So I'm sitting right opposite you, so I don't need to check cameras.
32:13But then you will check us on the moves.
32:14Don't always believe everything that happens in the movies, right?
32:18Mm-hmm.
32:20There's an outgoing message that says it's Russian lady.
32:24OK, is that you?
32:26I never used anything, so...
32:31But you are a Russian lady, aren't you?
32:34You might call me.
32:36So it was somebody else pretending to be you, yeah?
32:39Yeah, mate.
32:41So what's the plan then? You're gonna leave her to think that over?
32:46Yeah.
32:48I think that she probably is being exploited and controlled.
32:51And I hope that she'll see the error of her ways
32:54and tell us all about it tomorrow.
32:56Who's Uncle?
32:57Who's Uncle?
33:05The Cyber Team are analysing over 21,000 gigabytes of data
33:10to try and identify EncroChat users higher up the chain.
33:20Hi, Mum. It's Steve Gorman from Cyber.
33:22The most recent update is Bashir's conventional device.
33:25He's saved all of his contacts using their Encro handle names.
33:29Oh, my God.
33:33It does that.
33:34Well, I mean, it's been getting away with it for years and years.
33:38So you would get complacent, wouldn't you?
33:40Yeah.
33:4230 or 40 individuals.
33:44So what we'll need to do now is some checks on all of those.
33:48One of the users who has been compromised
33:51is a top-tier member of Uncle's Network
33:54responsible for importing wholesale quantities of Class A drugs
33:57into the UK, known as Chrissy.
34:01Chrissy, how do you know this, Matt?
34:04No comment.
34:05What's his real name?
34:06No comment.
34:08And is he your boss?
34:09No comment.
34:11With Uncle still out of reach,
34:13Chrissy becomes Operation Costello's highest-profile target.
34:17Are you in any danger, Cameron,
34:20that we need to be aware of?
34:21No comment.
34:22What about your family?
34:23Are they in any danger?
34:25No.
34:32So, Mr Bashir,
34:34has the officer told you what's going on in relation to this at all yet?
34:37No.
34:38Clearly by the look of your face, probably not.
34:40So you're going to be charged with three offences?
34:42Do not have to say anything, but it might harm me defensively.
34:44Not mention now something which he'll later rely on in court.
34:47She had conspired together with Ibrahimovic Bell
34:50to supply a quantity of cocaine, a controlled drug of Class A.
34:54And the lady that you brought here?
34:56Yeah, you're about to.
34:57Is she still in custody?
34:58I can't, I don't know, sir.
34:59I don't know the details.
35:00OK.
35:01Yeah.
35:14While the team tried to identify Chrissy,
35:17they receive a tip-off about the location of Uncle's garage.
35:21If the safe full of cash could be seized,
35:24it might prove Uncle's identity and bring down his whole network.
35:30Ah.
35:31The site is registered to one of the suspects in custody.
35:35Ibraz Iqbal.
35:41No worries.
35:43I don't have a contact with Ibraz.
35:44I don't have all the drugs.
35:45Are you all right with your cock?
35:46Ibraz Iqbal.
35:47Ibraz Iqbal.
35:48Ibraz Iqbal.
35:49Ibraz Iqbal.
35:50Ibraz Iqbal.
35:51Ibraz Iqbal.
35:52Ibraz Iqbal.
35:53Ibraz Iqbal.
35:54It's like us.
35:55The batteries are running out.
35:56This is a pit.
35:57Fucking big pit.
35:58Yeah?
36:00He, he knows, he knows the school, I think, the ones up here.
36:06He says also the people are watching us.
36:09Like down there.
36:12So.
36:15No, that should not be a safe.
36:19Goes all the way down.
36:22Fucking hell.
36:23I did not see this coming through.
36:24There's a pickaxe.
36:25Will that help?
36:26Pickaxe, yeah, please.
36:27Michelle.
36:28Is that back, everybody?
36:30Yeah, I'm going through.
36:32There's definitely stuff in there.
36:34Bags.
36:35And money.
36:37Oh, my God.
36:39What is that?
36:41It's fucking deep.
36:46Yeah.
36:48Tom, it's Julie Henson.
36:49I'm just wondering how you're getting on.
36:50We're all on tenterhooks here.
36:52Yeah.
36:53Nothing obvious at the moment, I'll be honest with you.
36:56But it looks like it's been like that for a while, does it?
36:58Yeah.
37:01This safe will be much more readily accessible than that,
37:04so I'm fairly confident it's not, it's not there.
37:06I feel like we're creeping slowly forward, aren't we?
37:12But it's a complex web.
37:15It's very hard to tackle the principle because they keep their hands clean.
37:20These people are just like ghosts.
37:22It's about eliminating all of the possibilities and what you're left with is the truth.
37:37The Operation Costello team are trying to identify Uncle and his upper tier associates before they ditch their encrophones.
37:44But they need the suspects in custody to cooperate.
37:49I think from my perspective, the girlfriend is still a really important person.
37:54If she gets released, they're going to think she's a grass and she's in a realistic situation.
37:58Yeah, absolutely.
38:01It could be you're offering us some sort of deal, as in witness protection.
38:06It's very difficult for us to get an OCG member to give us information
38:11because, of course, they've been institutionalised in their own way.
38:14But it's their opportunity to really wipe the slate clean.
38:18Right.
38:28As far as you're aware, are you the only woman in Kamran Bashir's life?
38:35I...
38:37Would it come as a surprise to you that he's married?
38:42He's married.
38:43With two children.
38:44That's where he goes when he's not seeing you.
38:49With two children?
38:51His children. With his wife.
38:55I didn't know.
38:56Which is why he only sees you for one hour.
38:59He spends the rest of his time with his family.
39:04I didn't know about this, like, he has two children.
39:06Two children is...
39:08Right. I'll put it bluntly.
39:14I don't think you're going to see Kamran for a long time.
39:17We know this encrypted phone belongs to Kamran.
39:20He's getting up to some bad things.
39:23And you may or may not know that.
39:25Chances are you probably do.
39:27You also know Uncle.
39:28You also know Uncle.
39:30Do you have any concerns that Uncle will do anything to you
39:34if you're released from this police station?
39:38We have to help you.
39:40But you have to help us.
39:41Tell me about this protection.
39:53They've moved you somewhere new.
39:55In the apartment?
39:57Yes.
39:59But to do that, you have to give us something.
40:03We are not.
40:05Unfortunately, not.
40:06No.
40:09Are you feeling okay?
40:11Are you going home?
40:12You want to walk there?
40:14No.
40:16Thanks, Sarge. Cheers.
40:18With the suspect refusing to talk
40:20and lacking enough evidence to prove that she is the Russian lady,
40:24the team have no choice but to bail her
40:26and begin to monitor her address for her own safety.
40:29If someone in an organised crime group comes to be seen as a grass,
40:32they definitely place themselves at jeopardy.
40:34So Bashir and Iqbal are charged.
40:36People in the upper tiers see those below them as a commodity.
40:40As soon as you are no good to them, they will cast you aside.
40:45We have now fully revealed our hand
40:47and they all know that they are going to get charged and sent to prison
40:50for a long period of time on the back of Encro evidence.
40:57A lot of these people on this screen right now
41:00that we don't know the identity of in the real world.
41:03So that's the dilemma we've got tonight.
41:13Detectives make a breakthrough in the hunt for Uncle and his associates.
41:18A driver working for Chrissy the Importer
41:21has been arrested with a quarter of a million pounds worth of cocaine.
41:24Intel and EncroChat messages about the shipment reveal Chrissy's true identity as Blazicz Blaz Cholub, a Polish national.
41:37We knew that he left the country on the 18th of July and we expected him to return.
41:43Sure enough, we got on alert last night to say that he'd booked a flight back from Warsaw to Luton.
41:48So we should hear shortly whether he's on the flight.
41:50So we should hear shortly whether he's on the flight.
41:52He's on the flight.
41:53Hello.
41:54Pop your arms up for us.
41:58Good man.
41:59Blazio, I'm arresting you on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A drugs.
42:08So you do not have to say anything but it may hold me a bit better.
42:09You do not mention one question, something which relates to Iran in court.
42:10Anything you do so it may be given in advance, okay?
42:11Okay.
42:12Cool.
42:13So I am arrested, yes?
42:14Yes.
42:15At least you get to beat the queues this way.
42:16Okay.
42:17Okay.
42:18Okay.
42:19Cool.
42:20So I am arrested, yes?
42:21Yes.
42:22At least you get to beat the queues this way.
42:23Okay.
42:24Okay.
42:25Okay.
42:26Okay.
42:27Okay.
42:28Okay.
42:29Okay.
42:30Okay.
42:31Okay.
42:32Okay.
42:33Okay.
42:34Okay.
42:35Okay.
42:36At least you get to beat the queues this way.
42:42He wasn't expecting at all.
42:47We found in total 250,000 pounds of coke.
42:51You must know that Iqbal, Bashir, they've already been remanded and yet he's still come
42:57back.
42:58I'm thinking the threats were worse where he was and where he's come to now.
43:02Okay.
43:03Okay.
43:04So what do you need an encrypted phone for?
43:09VIP boss Luton.
43:14Okay.
43:15He's got your name stored in his conventional phone for the Encro, Chrissy.
43:21So there's quite a clear link.
43:24Do you know anyone called Cameron Bashir?
43:27So this is a conversation on Encro devices in the wholesale supply of illegal street drugs
43:34out of the UK to different countries within Europe.
43:37In a pecking order, you are high up the chain.
43:42We've got the wrong person.
43:43This is your ideal time to tell us.
43:46He didn't talk in an interview, but I'm certain that he must know who Wunkle is.
43:53This job has been hugely eye-opening, revealing the full scale of the challenge of tackling organised crime.
44:03Please.
44:04Hello.
44:05How are we?
44:06In the timeframe that we had, it was impossible for us to work through all of the handles.
44:10But we will keep going.
44:12To prevent you leaving the country, I'm going to remand you here.
44:18I fully accept that the networks will move on to new technologies.
44:31I'm not blind to that at all.
44:39When we do crack the next network, which we will, then we will come after them again and we will keep doing so.
44:45Did you travel back to England with anyone?
44:49Has anyone threatened you to take part in a conspiracy to supply Class A drugs?
44:56You could walk past Uncle in the street and not even know.
45:02There will be people out there right now who know his real identity.
45:07And I would appeal to them to come forward with information.
45:11Yes.
45:12Too many things.
45:13You could not go on to any of your friends.
45:14Do you know anything?
45:15No need to go.
45:16There will be people in here.
45:17I'm not going to go.
45:18There will be people in here.
45:19There's a ride.
45:20You could not go.
45:21There will be people in here.
45:22Please.
45:23You could look.
45:24You could do people in here.
45:25Back to your life.
45:26You could never go.
45:27There will be people in every minute.
45:28People are going.
45:29You could look.
45:30I'm not going to get you.
