Celebrity Iou - Season 11 Episode 3 - Mario Lopez Is Saved By The Bros
Transcript
00:00Nothing in the world can stop it, come takin' over this party.
00:05Is this stuffy?
00:06You better be careful, he's gonna see you.
00:08He rocked the tank top for four seasons as A.C. Slater on Saved by the Bell,
00:12and these days keeps our finger on the pulse of everything entertainment on Access Hollywood.
00:17But when he's not playing TV host...
00:19Hey! You gotta tap! You gotta tap!
00:22He's playing pranks on his ride-or-die, Tootie.
00:26So, Tootie and I have been boys for a long time, since we were kids.
00:33Yeah!
00:34We can start a pop-lock group here.
00:36This is it.
00:37Hey, hey, hey, don't hurt him.
00:38I mean, I really wanted to help out Tootie, especially with what he was going through with his family.
00:42I thought it was great timing and kind of would lift their spirits.
00:45You know what would be cool is if you guys could figure out something personal that the kids could maybe do.
00:50I was thinking, actually, these would be great in that little bay window.
00:53It's like a reset. We're all gonna benefit from it in a big way.
00:57One, two, three.
01:00Oh, my goodness!
01:02Thank you, Uncle Mario!
01:04I know you're looking at me, baby, when I walk in the room.
01:06Turning necks like a car roll.
01:07Mopping a broom.
01:08Cleaning it up.
01:09Margarita fell in the cup.
01:10I'm the hero.
01:11Do you wanna be my villain or what?
01:13So, the thing I wanted to ask you is, you've done so many different things, right down to...
01:18I remember a period of time where every time I stayed in a hotel, you would come on my TV constantly.
01:23Yeah, I'm in over a million hotel rooms for must-see movies with Mario.
01:28And it's funny, man.
01:29Never did I think that would be such a thing.
01:33What is the thing that most people will walk up to you on the street and say when they see you?
01:38Well, it's funny, from right now, especially here in L.A., people will still bring up Saved by the Bell because it's still on TV after all these years.
01:47Yeah, I know, right?
01:48It's crazy.
01:49So, that and then of course every day, they'll see me on either Access Hollywood and Access Daily.
01:53In Saved by the Bell, you were a high school student, but you looked 35 years old.
01:58You had more muscle on you than I have now when you were high school.
02:01How old were you actually when you were filming?
02:02We were actual high school age.
02:04I was 15.
02:05You don't age.
02:07I don't understand.
02:08Wait, how old are you?
02:09I'm 51.
02:10What?
02:11You can't lie anymore.
02:12Oh, my gosh.
02:13So, yeah, no, I'm 51.
02:14You literally look like you're 10 years younger than me.
02:15I mean, I feel like I'm 61 some days.
02:18You're good, man.
02:19Well, tell us about why we're here.
02:21What is it you want us to be able to do?
02:23Well, first of all, thank you so much.
02:25I'm really grateful that you guys helped me out with my boy, Tootie.
02:30I've known Tootie since I was, what, 12, 13 years old?
02:33Wow.
02:34And he started getting into grooming and stuff.
02:38And I always like to hook up all my friends and have my buddies around with me.
02:41And I'm like, hey, fool, you know how to do makeup on me?
02:44And hair?
02:45And he's like, yeah.
02:46And so then we've been working together now almost 20 years.
02:50Oh, wow.
02:5120 years.
02:52Yeah, something like that.
02:53What area of Tootie's house needs the most work?
02:57I would say, if you had to pick one area, the kitchen.
03:00And also, because they homeschool their kids, like the little classroom area, which is right by the kitchen.
03:08So where's Tootie right now? Is he at the house?
03:11He's at the house right now.
03:12Okay.
03:13How should we sneak up on him and do this without him having a heart attack?
03:17Well, if we want to sneak up on him, we should go through the back.
03:20So Tootie and I have been boys for a long time, since we were kids.
03:28Really, we grew up in the same neighborhood in Chula Vista.
03:31Tootie was a nickname that I gave him when the movie Goodfellas came out.
03:36One of our favorite movies.
03:38Tootie's more like family at this point.
03:41Tootie definitely knows me and understands me probably better than most people.
03:45He can see when something's on my mind or I'm going through something or if I need someone to bounce something off of.
03:51That's what good friends do.
03:53I mean, I really wanted to help out Tootie, especially with what he was going through with his family.
03:57And his wife had a medical issue and had to have emergency spine surgery that could have been really bad.
04:04This is not something they probably could have done for a little while.
04:08I thought it was great timing and kind of would lift their spirits.
04:15Hey, what's that?
04:16You literally have us sneaking up the side of the ravine?
04:19Yeah.
04:20Could you have taken some more dangerous-
04:21We've got to be stealth-like.
04:23I don't exactly have the gear.
04:25Oh, dang.
04:26What happens if we throw Drew in the creek?
04:28Don't, Doug.
04:29Don't, Doug.
04:30He'll slow down everything.
04:31Wait, okay.
04:32Is this stealthy?
04:33You better be careful.
04:35You better be careful.
04:36Is he in there?
04:37He's going to see you.
04:38Drew's the worst ninja of all time.
04:40Yeah, Drew.
04:41Can't have a big-ass ninja like Drew.
04:43My question is, why are you wearing fancy shoes when you knew you were going to take us through the bushes?
04:47I did not intend to go through the bushes.
04:50This is a total improv.
04:52Here we go.
04:54For an ambush, this is the fanciest pants and shoes I've ever seen.
04:58Okay, here we go.
04:59Shhh.
05:00Window.
05:01Good thing there's stripes this morning.
05:02Ready?
05:03Come on.
05:04The Keystone cops over here.
05:05Yeah, right.
05:06Hey, you guys come.
05:07You guys come.
05:08Come on.
05:09Come on.
05:10Hey, you guys come.
05:11Come on.
05:12You guys come.
05:13Shh.
05:14This is Eric.
05:15Me.
05:16If I knew this guy, you come up with me but he would say I had nothing of him but let's
05:17fix it though.
05:18Maybe he had nothing of him.
05:19You have to fix it and video tell us about where all of these tents are.
05:23Now and a lady of the co-ds have been bringing up with me and I do some garbage and
05:24relatives.
05:25It will be hard for.
05:26You guys come.
05:28Great Brookline.
05:29You guys come.
05:30linear.
05:31Everything comes to work with me and I hateousse incidents let's agree with them.
05:34Hey.
05:35It will be hard for me and Iblick Holland.
05:38I do need help.
05:39Hey, you got a tap.
05:55Got a tap.
05:57What's up, Mo?
05:58What are you doing here?
05:59I came to surprise you.
06:00You surprised?
06:01What's with the cameras?
06:02What's going on?
06:02Well, like I said, I came to surprise you right here.
06:05I have something I wanted to run by you.
06:07I didn't even hear the door open.
06:08I could smell him.
06:09You know what I mean?
06:10I could smell the layers of cologne on him.
06:14I know how you've always wanted to do the space over right here.
06:18So I have a couple friends of mine that are going to help me out with this.
06:21You know, we like to sneak into people's houses and surprise them out, too.
06:25No, no, no.
06:26Choke them out, too.
06:26He likes to punch, too.
06:28You know these fools.
06:29I know who those fools are, yeah.
06:31This is the only thing we didn't tell you is we're going to put you two head-to-head jujitsu.
06:35Whoever wins gets their house renovated.
06:37Oh, you want some?
06:39Boxing?
06:39He don't want to go boxing because he knows.
06:41He knows.
06:41I'm going to beat you up for the Property Brothers pool.
06:43I got to be honest.
06:44Like, it was the last thing I was expecting.
06:47And then I saw the two Property Brothers come out.
06:49So then right away I knew, oh, this is going to be really, really, really awesome.
06:53Growing up in Chul Vista, you know, with Lopez, I was actually good friends with his cousin,
06:58Gordel.
06:59I moved up here in 2001 as a makeup artist.
07:02And then cut to 2008, he calls me up and he says, I booked this show called Extra.
07:07It's a Monday through Friday.
07:09Are you interested?
07:09And, of course, I said, yeah.
07:12We've been working together now for almost 20 years.
07:15I see him as much as I see my wife.
07:19And we've always had each other's backs.
07:21We've known Mario for not quite as long as you have, but for a long time.
07:25And he was telling us about how you've always been there for him.
07:29And you guys have been, you know, friends for so long.
07:32And then he was thinking about what maybe would make life a little bit easier here at home,
07:36especially with the homeschooling.
07:37And so we decided to work together and we're going to do a little something special here.
07:41See?
07:42Dude, what?
07:43You know how it's up, see?
07:45It really means a lot to me because Mario has a lot of friends.
07:49To do this for me is just, it's a really, really amazing thing.
07:55And it looks like you have an awesome space here for homeschooling,
07:59but do you like how it is here?
08:01Or have you been dreaming of a way to make this more functional for the kids?
08:04We moved into this place when Nico was three.
08:06He's 12 now.
08:07We decided that in order for our kids to get the best education,
08:11my wife was going to educate them.
08:13You know, she was going to homeschool them.
08:15Elle and Leo, you know, they were born here.
08:17So when you first move in, you don't have much, right?
08:21And, you know, it gets tough.
08:22I mean, when they were little, it was cool.
08:25And now that they're getting bigger, it's smaller and they kind of fight over, like, areas, you know?
08:31But somehow turn it into more of, like, a classroom.
08:35I can see you're bursting at the seams for storage.
08:37You've got baskets upon baskets.
08:39Yes.
08:40There's just stuff from infancy to second grade and it's just piling up.
08:46We need more space to put things in.
08:49How about the kitchen?
08:50Does this function for you?
08:51You know, actually, this is where I live, this corner right here.
08:54I eat because my kids sit here, my wife stands here, and I'm constantly, like, you know, cooking and doing stuff.
09:00But I pretty much kick it at this spot.
09:03This is going to be a fun project, but also we want it to be a fun surprise.
09:08So if you're cool with it, we'll kick you out of your own home for the next little bit until we get this done.
09:12But here's the deal.
09:13I already talked to Tiff and, uh, squaring you guys away, you know?
09:17When?
09:17Because, like, right away, you've got to pack full and leave.
09:20You leave today.
09:20Like, right now, I've got to get...
09:22Like, right now, right now.
09:23You've got to start getting your stuff and gather everyone and, you know, we'll put you up in another little place and we'll get this all squared away.
09:29It's like, um, like a reset.
09:32We're all going to benefit from it in a big way.
09:35Don't mess it up.
09:35He means a lot, you know?
09:37He means a lot to me, to me and my family, and I love him.
09:41You know, as I'm looking around, like, this is very dated looking and very dark.
09:45And then this, I don't know, this isn't necessary.
09:46There's just dark, but...
09:47Sometimes there will be venting or electrical or gas.
09:51So I would expose that to see what's in there.
09:55Obviously, we're still going to need to vent the hood.
09:57Exactly.
09:58But, um, if we can, it would be nice to raise that up.
10:01And it's just kind of dark in here.
10:03It's cave-ish.
10:04The floors are actually nice, though.
10:05Yeah, they do like the floors.
10:07I think the floors are nice.
10:08And then, um, you know, obviously the cabinets look like, you know, from Little House on the Prairie.
10:12And, um, the space over here, like the little kind of school room.
10:16Tiffany, his wife, who's a great teacher, would love their kind of individual space.
10:22Oh, workstations?
10:23Yeah, little workstations.
10:24Yeah.
10:24Exactly.
10:24That'd be, uh, I think really helpful and they would love that.
10:28On behalf of Titi...
10:29Am I getting knighted?
10:30Don't mess this up.
10:31I thought you were going to knight you.
10:31Oh, yeah.
10:32Well, I'll knight you and it'll work.
10:34Uh, I think it's clear to me storage is the biggest problem they have.
10:38Yeah.
10:39They have stuff just caving in on them.
10:41Right, exactly.
10:42So I agree with you.
10:43I think adding as much storage as we possibly can.
10:46And then just a little style, it just feels kind of thrown together and, and really there's no purposeful light.
10:51Correct.
10:51Kids learn better in a bright, inspirational room.
10:54Yeah, you're right.
10:55So we want to add a color palette that just feels fun and vibrant and also well illuminated.
11:01Yeah, the, the space is very cluttered and they've just a little overwhelmed with the stuff they've got.
11:06So I think once we sort of strain, line some storage space and, and really, really utilize all the space to its fullest, I think it'd turn out really cool.
11:17You can see they actually have a lot of costumes and props.
11:19All right, Jonathan.
11:21What is this?
11:22I don't even know what this is.
11:23This is a well-used Santa hat.
11:25This looks like it's going to be good on Mario.
11:27Santa hat.
11:27All right, whatever this is.
11:28Dang.
11:29I'm really happy to be able to do something like this for Titi.
11:32He's a good guy.
11:33You've never looked so foxy.
11:34See, I'm ready to go.
11:36All right, all right.
11:37I know they've had their, their challenges and, and this is something I know they'll really appreciate and I'm happy that I had the opportunity to be able to do this for him.
11:45I want Mario to draw his inspiration for this space.
11:50My drawing has not improved since like the first grade.
11:53All right, this is going to be your test.
11:55Titi says you're actually great with your design eye.
11:58So let's see what you can make of the space.
12:01I feel like you're up to something.
12:03Make it good.
12:04That's all I say.
12:05Yeah.
12:06All right.
12:08So.
12:09Here we can start a pop line groove here.
12:12This is it.
12:13It looks really nice.
12:14My wife wants something like that.
12:16Y'all might have to go to Casa Lopez after.
12:18Casa by Lopez.
12:20Casas by Mario Lopez.
12:21This is my life and you only give one.
12:26Let's do it.
12:28Whoa.
12:29That is a way to make an entry.
12:31All right.
12:32Who's ready to start a renovation?
12:34Yeah, I wanted to set the tone, knock down the doors and say we're here ready to work and then we got right down to it.
12:40I think I smacked it.
12:41I don't think it's time that we're willing to take a break.
12:44Watch how it's done.
12:47I think I smacked it.
12:49We will be taking this off.
12:51I like your efficiency.
12:52Why bother just hitting the countertop and we can go.
12:56Right.
12:56You know what I'd actually like to do right now because this is sort of the big question for us.
13:11Why don't we poke a couple of holes in the soffit because I really would like this to feel so dated.
13:18Yeah, you got your plywood in there.
13:20It should go up.
13:22Never mind.
13:26All right, I'll investigate here.
13:28Do you want to poke a hole on the other side too?
13:33All right, let me take a look.
13:36Oh boy.
13:42Hmm.
13:43Well.
13:44What do you see, animals?
13:45I got good news and bad news.
13:47What?
13:48Well, the bad news is some idiot put this here thinking it looked good.
13:53The good news is there's nothing blocking us from taking it all the way up.
13:56Hey, so we can go, that's already going to open it up a lot.
13:59This was just an aesthetic choice to drop the ceiling like this and there's no need for that.
14:03No need.
14:03All right.
14:04Well, this is actually best case scenario.
14:07I like the fact that there's nothing holding us back from anything that we're looking to do here.
14:11So let's just keep ripping, tearing, and clear it out.
14:14All right.
14:14Sounds good.
14:15Day two, and with both spaces gutted, we've finally started framing and roughing and plumbing and electrical.
14:26So here's our space.
14:28All right.
14:29While ITALK finishes with Mario and get his approval on the final kitchen layout.
14:33Okay, so here's some of my thoughts on configuration.
14:34With the living room on the other side of the kitchen and the hallway and the powder room on the other side of the classroom,
14:40we can't extend the footprint of each space, so we'll have to get creative.
14:44I do like the fact that there's an island out here with some breakfast bar seating.
14:48I think that'll be important.
14:49What I don't like is, because they have the fridge over here, which is full depth, then it immediately goes to upper cabinets.
14:57Over here, they have full depth for the pantry, and then immediately it goes to the range.
15:01Instead, I would move the fridge over here so you have full depth, pantry, and fridge storage.
15:07There you go.
15:08And then move the range over here to the center, because now you have a statement piece when you're looking this way.
15:13You look at the hood.
15:13Yeah, much, much better layout, and I think much more functional.
15:18Yeah.
15:18So not only will we have some nice sconces over here, but we're also going to put in recessed lights throughout,
15:24because that way we can get great ambient light.
15:27There you go.
15:27Especially for a classroom, you want it to feel well-eliminated.
15:30Make it look bigger, too.
15:31Exactly.
15:32All the storage you were talking about about this wall, I was thinking of doing something really nice and bold.
15:37Oh, that's cool.
15:38This is actually the color of my kitchen and my home, but I love this color.
15:41I think that mixed with the beautiful hardwood floors that they have would look stunning.
15:45Oh, yeah, that would look nice.
15:46Yeah.
15:46So, with that in mind, what are some of the things in the kitchen, the finishes in the kitchen, that you think would bring it to life for them?
15:53Well, I know they would love to have the white sort of marble.
16:00Stone?
16:01Stone.
16:01Yeah, something like this, exactly.
16:03Like this.
16:04I know they would love that, and that would automatically bring it up.
16:07The cabinets, too, they look like the first cabinets ever made.
16:09Yeah.
16:10Right.
16:10So, what two colors would you want for your uppers and your lowers in the kitchen?
16:15I mean, these kind of colors look nice, right?
16:17I think that would be a nice compliment.
16:19Do you like that?
16:19Yeah.
16:20Well, I like the idea of the uppers always being a little bit lighter.
16:22Okay.
16:22You could take it down a notch, too, if you wanted to try it and have it like that.
16:27Yeah.
16:27With your marble in the middle.
16:29Oh, that looks nice.
16:30You can kind of see, it's a little bit more dramatic than if you did that.
16:33Right.
16:34So.
16:34That is, yeah.
16:35Yeah.
16:35That's kind of cool.
16:37Jonathan's cool, and we kind of think alike and had very similar ideas.
16:42And, of course, once we style everything and we have some of the kids' stuff and the artwork and the chalkboard and, you know, how good's your writing?
16:50My writing, my penmanship has improved since I was in third grade.
16:53You and me both.
16:54Okay.
16:54That's not good.
16:55Somebody else will come in and we'll have them write something on the chalkboard that's really cute and, you know, how.
17:00I think the idea of doing a classroom is so fun because you want it to be an inspirational space.
17:05Right.
17:06But it's kids.
17:06You want it to be a fun space.
17:07Yeah, it's kids.
17:07It's a fun space.
17:08Sure, fun space.
17:08Exactly.
17:09Finding that balance is a challenge, but, as always, the devil is in the details.
17:13In the kitchen, we've removed the soffits, which will raise the ceiling height for a spacious feel, while down low, the original mid-toned oak floors are still in great shape, so we'll keep them intact.
17:23Two-tone cabinets in a green and off-white with porcelain countertop and a matching slab backsplash will marry a contemporary look with a timeless sophistication that Tootie and Tiffany have always wanted.
17:34We'll add a large pantry for additional storage and panel-ready appliances configured for efficiency and flow.
17:40While in the kids' classroom, wall-to-wall built-in cabinets will provide much-needed storage to tuck away school supplies, allowing the space to flex as a family room when class time is over.
17:50We'll include a built-in banquette and close off the door to the hall to allow for a smaller cubby on the adjacent wall, giving Nico, Leo, and Ella cozy options to settle in with a good book or a class assignment.
18:01Finally, movable desks that can be grouped or pulled apart for individual study give the space top marks for adaptability, functionality, and charm.
18:09You feel good about this?
18:10I feel good about this, man.
18:11He's going to flip out.
18:12Poor guy in there.
18:13I know this is something they've always been wanting to do, but it's been tough.
18:17When your house is not functioning to make your life easier, it really, it's a struggle.
18:22Right.
18:22All right.
18:23I think we're good.
18:23Nice job.
18:24All right.
18:24Thank you, man.
18:25This is awesome.
18:25Can you feel it?
18:27I mean, I know we've talked through Reading Nook, and we have lots of storage.
18:40I just want to make sure that you think this is the best use of the space.
18:43Are you telling me right now that you're second guessing closing that off?
18:46Because we've already nailed down the bottom plate.
18:48Oh, no.
18:49I'm not saying I don't want to close this off.
18:51I want to close this off.
18:51But I'm just trying to make sure the way we build out the dream space here makes the most sense.
18:56I actually think they might end up trying to make this like a little stage.
18:59You think about it, they could even put up like a little curtain here, and this is where the kids come out to perform and do things like that.
19:06We're not doing that here.
19:07No, no.
19:08We're doing a bench here.
19:09This is a Reading Nook.
19:10Okay.
19:10That's the whole idea is I'm literally building a bench in with a cushion and then bookshelves on either side as you go in.
19:17Where are they going to perform?
19:18What do you mean where they're going to perform?
19:19They can perform wherever they want.
19:21This is going to be a little banquette here where the table is and whatnot, so the audience could be over there.
19:26Kids will find a way.
19:28I love stressing you out.
19:29Don't change things last minute.
19:31So you want me to measure the stud or you want me to give you other ideas?
19:33I need the one where you've got the anchor on the right there.
19:35I need to know that exact measurement because it's going to be shorter than the others.
19:38So stop talking, Drew.
19:40Give me this measurement.
19:40Exactly.
19:41I didn't want to be the one to say it, but yes.
19:4379 and a quarter.
19:45Hold on a sec.
19:4679 and a quarter.
19:47Do it!
19:47Ella and Leo are twins.
19:58They needed twins to design a space because you and I, all of our little secret rooms are reading notes.
20:03This was all...
20:04This is...
20:05Yeah.
20:05This is not going to go well for me and my old knees.
20:07Hold on.
20:08Changing books.
20:09How to deal with old knees.
20:11You all kicked me out of our...
20:12When we would have a space, you would always take more turns than I would.
20:15Same with the bathroom when we were kids.
20:17Twins are supposed to share all spaces, but you would always take double the time.
20:20Look, just because I read books with bigger words, don't take it out on me now.
20:23I just needed big pictures.
20:25Pop-ups.
20:26We're just getting started!
20:37How good is your painting?
20:40Well, if it's as good as my coloring, then it's going to be fantastic.
20:43Okay.
20:44All right.
20:44This is good.
20:44I haven't done much, to be quite honest.
20:46This is a lightweight setup, so it's pretty easy.
20:48And all we need to do is just kind of give a couple passes on each of the doors,
20:51and then we've got, obviously, a lot of doors to get through.
20:54I'm so impressed by all the modern...
20:57Gadgetry.
20:58Gadgetry.
20:58Yeah, man.
20:59What happened to the old school...
21:00We still...
21:01Wax on, wax off kind of deal right there.
21:02You had a little...
21:03Oh, with like a paintbrush or a roller?
21:04Yeah.
21:04You don't use those deals?
21:06Never, never roller paint a cab...
21:08If you're doing cabinet doors, because you want that beautiful kind of satin finish...
21:10But that still exists.
21:11Yeah, yeah.
21:12You can do it.
21:12Okay.
21:13But I always spray.
21:14Like, look how beautiful and flat that is.
21:16Yeah, that's nice.
21:17That's what we want.
21:18Okay.
21:18The color's nice.
21:19I think the color's something that they're going to like, which is what's important.
21:24It's like a little hazmat suit.
21:25Exactly.
21:26I think they're going to dig it.
21:27All right.
21:28So...
21:29Let's do it.
21:29We can start a pop-lock groove here.
21:31This is it.
21:32All right, cool.
21:33Hey, hey, don't hurt them.
21:35It's a...
21:35If I do that, it splits.
21:37Yeah.
21:37If you want to try first...
21:38I'm going to spray.
21:39Sure.
21:39The trick is, don't stop halfway through.
21:42I literally...
21:42It's so tight, I can't bend over.
21:44So you're going to...
21:45Just do it halfway down.
21:48Wherever you see the white there, we want to make sure we cover it.
21:51Got it.
21:51And then final pass, we'll just...
21:55We still have a lot of doors to you, but you want to get good coverage.
22:00Got it.
22:01Up and down.
22:02Up and down.
22:02And then if you're going to go sideways, you have to turn the head sideways.
22:05Got it.
22:05No, I'll go up and down.
22:06And we'll just do a little bit more, and then I'll swap doors for you.
22:08Okay.
22:09Ready?
22:09Go for it.
22:10Here we go.
22:14I'm still impressed with how busy you are, and you've still been finding time to come
22:19here as often as we've asked for you, and like, you have never said no.
22:23Next.
22:24My schedule is pretty insane, shooting three different shows a day, two TV shows, one radio
22:28show, and a bunch of other stuff, but Teddy's been my boy for a long time, and when the opportunity
22:32came up to do something nice for him...
22:34That's great.
22:35I wanted to be able to do that.
22:38With all the different interviews you do, from the podcast to the talk show, was there
22:42an interview you ever did where you were just like, all right, bucket list check?
22:47All the people that I was kids, right?
22:48The Robert De Niro's, the Al Pacino's, the Stallone's, the Schwarzenegger's, all those
22:52guys, right?
22:53Because they're my era growing up.
22:55I thought Property Brothers would have been on that list, but those are...
22:58You guys are the younger generation.
22:59And I said growing up.
23:01Come on!
23:10This whole detail wall with the wood slats as a little v-group, it's going to be so stunning
23:15when it's done.
23:16It looks cool.
23:17It looks rich.
23:18Yeah.
23:19Yeah, this will all be dark green.
23:21We've got the wood tones that'll go here, and then we'll set up our cushions and our tables.
23:26Nice, nice.
23:27No, this is great.
23:28I mean, it being a kid's space and stuff, it's very nice.
23:31Does it work to have, instead of one big table, I was thinking of three, like, little
23:35desks, essentially, they can still be nice.
23:38That way, in case you wanted to get them out of the way, it's easier?
23:40Yeah, I think so.
23:41Also, kids don't like to share their workspace.
23:43Kids like their own workspace.
23:44Kids don't like to share, period.
23:46Yeah, it's going to be a really cool classroom.
23:47We know this growing up.
23:48Right, exactly.
23:49It's going to be a really welcoming, beautiful space, and also an entertaining space as well.
23:55See the V-groove that Jonathan's cutting here?
23:57Do you want to do a bit of this, and I'll stick these boards on the wall?
23:59That looks a little advanced for me, but I'll give it a shot.
24:01It's pretty simple.
24:02Yeah, here, get that shot.
24:03The guide right here, as long as it's flat along the edge of the board, it'll dictate how deep you go.
24:08I'm just curious, how long has a tool like this been available?
24:11Is this, like, a very modern thing or has been around forever?
24:13No, these have been around for 20 years.
24:14I've never used a lot of these tools that they've used.
24:16They've come a long way.
24:18All right, so all you're going to do is keep it flat.
24:20And then I'm going to, when you, the switch is right here to turn it on.
24:23You're going to press that to turn it on.
24:24And then all you do is push it against the edge of the wood and then run it this way.
24:28Okay.
24:28Okay.
24:29So, there you go.
24:30And hold it, push it to the top.
24:33Oh, to the right.
24:34Got it.
24:35Oh, then I slide it.
24:36Oh, oh, got it.
24:37Keep it down on the wood and then pull along.
24:40You got it.
24:41Yeah, I've always been fascinated how these homes have been built back in the day, these beautiful homes,
24:46especially before all these power tools.
24:50Yeah, this is so quick.
24:51Keep going, keep going.
24:52All right, lift up.
24:54I mean, that's perfect.
24:55Is that pretty good?
24:55Literally perfect.
24:56Still a lot of hard work, but it's much easier with all the power tools.
24:59All right, let's check your work.
25:01Thank you, sir.
25:01This is just like in school when a teacher checks your work.
25:07Nice.
25:08You know what would be cool is if you guys could figure out something personal that the kids could maybe do for Tiffany.
25:14I think she'd love that, right?
25:15Like some artwork or something?
25:17Yeah, incorporate that.
25:18I think that'd be a good little touch.
25:19Cute.
25:21And what'd you say?
25:23Yeah, center.
25:24Oh, right here.
25:24Kick it off!
25:33Hey, Talia.
25:34How you doing?
25:35Drew, you made it.
25:36I made it.
25:36I don't have Parker today.
25:38We are just going to focus on one of our families.
25:40They're actually going to be here any minute.
25:42Did you get the pots I was asking about?
25:43Yes, they're over there.
25:44Okay, good.
25:45This to me feels like an ice cream bar.
25:47When you go in, you pick your cone, you pick your toppings, the type of ice cream.
25:51Where do you want to start?
25:52Let's start with the pots.
25:53Yes.
25:54Oh, I should know by now.
25:55Pick your base.
25:56Pick your color.
25:57Pick your toppings.
25:57Welcome, welcome.
26:00Good to see you.
26:01How you doing, Leo?
26:02Good, how are you?
26:03The rental we're at is, it's really nice, you know, and I kind of looked at it like I told
26:08the kids, let's, let's, this is like a little vacation, a staycation.
26:12Cody?
26:13Yes.
26:14Leo, Ella, come on in here.
26:15So, Ella and Leo on the way here, we're just asking a million questions that I don't know
26:21because I don't know what's going on there.
26:24Do you like to craft?
26:25Yeah.
26:26Do you especially like to craft if it's for your mom?
26:28Yeah.
26:28I got to be honest, I've been by the house to pick up packages and mail and stuff like
26:34that.
26:34I have not peed and I'll tell you why, because I don't want to know.
26:38If you look at this, this is a blank canvas for you.
26:41What would you like to create for your mom?
26:43Well, she likes yellow a lot.
26:45That's her favorite color.
26:46Okay, that's good to know.
26:47Maybe a sun.
26:48Flowers.
26:49She likes, like, lotion and birds.
26:54Oh.
26:55I was thinking, actually, these would be great in that little bay window.
26:58Yeah.
26:58Yeah, this would look awesome.
27:00How do you think Tiffany's going to react when she sees this face?
27:04I mean, you know, honestly, she's such, like, an amazing human.
27:09Like, she's such an inspiration.
27:11Tiffany, she had a major surgery that was pretty scary.
27:17We didn't know whether or not she was going to be a paraplegic or not.
27:21She had a tumor in her spinal column that was closing her spinal cord.
27:27Yeah.
27:27And so, cut to she was two weeks away from being a paraplegic.
27:30Oh, my gosh.
27:32She had written this message to our children on a chalkboard.
27:35She wrote this message that said, just remember that I always love you.
27:39You know, it was a scary moment, but we got through it.
27:42So, you're going to write that in there?
27:44I'm going to write, just remember I always love you.
27:46I love that.
27:47Yeah.
27:47You make me tear up over here.
27:48Ah.
27:49Oh, man.
27:50Are you going to write I love you, Lonnie?
27:51So, you're going to write I.
27:53You're going to write I.
27:53And then you can actually either write love or you can do a heart.
27:58Which one do you want to do?
28:00I love.
28:01Look over there, Leo and Ella.
28:03You see over there?
28:04Yeah.
28:05That's the crafting bar.
28:06I'm going to give you 30 seconds to grab as much as you possibly want.
28:10Starting now.
28:12Go.
28:1330 seconds.
28:14There you go.
28:14Hop in behind.
28:15Get as much as you possibly need or want.
28:17Go, go, go.
28:18Grab as fast as you can.
28:19I mean, it really, really means a lot to me that Property Brothers and Lopez are thinking
28:24about, like, these small details, you know, especially for my wife.
28:28Five, four, three.
28:31Because what we've been through and, you know, her just being the rock star she is, you know,
28:36she's really the backbone of this family.
28:38Did I forget to mention to you guys?
28:40Each item is $5.
28:42What?
28:43And it comes out of your pocket.
28:46No, I'm just joking.
28:46Okay, I'm sorry.
28:48I'm incredibly grateful for whatever it is, but yes, there's been a lot of, like, wondering.
28:53Hey, close your eyes.
28:54Eyes are closed.
28:55Okay, I'm very open.
28:56Here we go.
28:58One, two, three.
29:01Let me drop something new for you.
29:03When the rhythm hits you, got you feeling euphoric.
29:05When the whole room like boils, like boils.
29:08You hot it in the pot when it boils.
29:10So let me drop something new for you.
29:12When the rhythm hits you, got you feeling euphoric.
29:14I am very ready inside.
29:16Can you bring this inside?
29:17All right, let's do it.
29:17You want to grab the other side?
29:18All right.
29:19This is going to be a snug fit.
29:21I love learning, and what guys do is incredibly impressive.
29:25Working with the brothers, I know what they're doing, so I'm not worried at all.
29:28It's in good hands.
29:29It looks really nice.
29:31My wife wants something like that.
29:32I might have to go to Casa Lopez after.
29:34All right.
29:36So the trick is we're going to take it right into the window bay.
29:38Yeah, I'll go with you.
29:39Okay.
29:40Yes.
29:40And then careful of the existing.
29:42Watch my fingers.
29:43You've got to come back.
29:44We've got to go in even.
29:45Okay.
29:46Two, three.
29:47All right.
29:48There you go.
29:49Oh, that looks good.
29:50Does it?
29:51Pull this out.
29:52All right.
29:52Pull it out.
29:53Here we go.
29:54Hey, that looks good.
29:55Yeah.
29:56That looks nice, guys.
29:58Woo.
29:58And so our backsplash.
29:59Wow, what a big difference.
30:00What a big difference, huh?
30:01It's amazing, right?
30:02This is so cool.
30:03Zero maintenance.
30:04They'll never have to reseal it.
30:06They don't have to worry about stains.
30:07I'm going to take a picture because my wife is going to like this.
30:09This is it.
30:10And this doesn't stain?
30:11Nope.
30:12It doesn't stain at all.
30:12Don't have to worry about that at all.
30:14That's cool.
30:14And then when we do our backsplash here, we'll run the backsplash right into it and return in.
30:19Nice.
30:19So it'll match perfectly.
30:21Nice.
30:21That looks good.
30:22I see you guys move stuff around.
30:23Like the fridge is going to go there now, right?
30:25In the dishwasher.
30:26It was there.
30:27Yeah, it was here, but now over there.
30:29Now it's right next to it.
30:30So you can literally, yeah.
30:31Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
30:32Much more functional.
30:33Before you know it, we'll have, because you can't tell with the lights on, but there's this nice, warm white.
30:38It's almost like kind of a creamy color on the ceiling.
30:41We'll pull that right down.
30:42We'll do it here on the hood as well.
30:43The wood strip across the bottom.
30:45Everything is going to feel like there was no detail skipped.
30:49Okay.
30:50I think it's coming together really nice.
30:51I think they're going to be thrilled.
30:53They're going to be probably a little emotional.
30:56Casa by Lopez.
30:58Casas by Mario Lopez.
31:00And so it's going to make me feel good to see them happy.
31:02All right, back to work.
31:03All right.
31:04I'm a new world champion.
31:06Claim to ruin that walk in.
31:08Competition, eat that up like some eggs in my breakfast.
31:13Now clean the whole plate.
31:15Nothing left behind.
31:17Hold on a second.
31:18I'm sensing a crystal ball moment here.
31:22Are you going to read our future?
31:23Mario, what do you think the future reads for how Titty's going to react?
31:27I thought that was going to glow right now.
31:28It glowed.
31:29Look.
31:31What's his reaction going to be?
31:32All I know is I'm killing this knob right here.
31:34What's up?
31:35Look at that.
31:36I got to do this to you.
31:37There's going to be so much more in your honey-do list.
31:39See?
31:40I don't want my wife to see this.
31:42She's going to think I'm handy around the house.
31:43I purposefully show that I can't do things, so I don't have to do things.
31:47Yeah, right?
31:51Look at that.
31:51That knob's not going anywhere.
31:53Wait.
31:53Whoa.
31:53Top one's crooked.
31:54Is it crooked?
31:55No, you got it.
31:56You fixed it.
31:56I got it.
31:56I got it.
31:57You're safe.
31:57Here we go.
31:58I didn't think I was going to have to work, to be honest with you, but I don't mind rolling
32:01my sleeves up.
32:02Looking good.
32:04I like these little...
32:04Love a lazy Susan.
32:06A lazy Susan.
32:07That's what it's called.
32:08I tried things that I hadn't done before, and the creative process is a lot of fun in putting
32:13it together.
32:13Obviously, the guys had make it come to fruition and stuff.
32:18I can see how people get hooked on it.
32:19I think it's coming together really nice.
32:21See, this is cool.
32:21Like, I like how we added this feature right here.
32:23Yeah.
32:24Pull right in the middle.
32:25Pull right in the middle.
32:26Look at that.
32:27Oh, that's badass.
32:28Look at that.
32:29Yeah.
32:30And it locks in.
32:31Get your mixing in.
32:32Tuck it away.
32:32I like that deal.
32:34Having gigantic bulky pieces on your counter.
32:36It is.
32:37It's not fun having it out there because it eats up too much space.
32:40Yeah, yeah, yeah.
32:41It's much more functional.
32:43It's going to be much more efficient.
32:45Wow, this is like really come a long way with these TVs.
32:50Remember the TVs used to be crazy-ass thick and they were so heavy?
32:53Oh, okay.
32:53Am I helping you right now?
32:54No, this is so much better than the old days.
32:57Yeah, right?
32:58Oh, look at that.
32:59Line these up.
33:00It's so light, too.
33:02Is that it?
33:03Yeah.
33:03It's hard to see because...
33:05Yeah, there's just like a little nub.
33:08Yeah.
33:08Yeah, it's going to be a really cool classroom.
33:10I want to see your designer eye.
33:11Without us influencing you, what would you write?
33:13What would you say?
33:13Walk them home?
33:14Whatever you want.
33:15Whatever you want.
33:16Mm-hmm.
33:16Mm-hmm.
33:18With a smiley.
33:19You got to hit them with a smiley.
33:20Oh, my God.
33:21Welcome home.
33:21You hit the dimples.
33:22Hey!
33:22No, no, wait.
33:23Is this the custom Mario because you got the cheeks and the dimples?
33:26No, no, no.
33:27I'm just trying to keep it happy.
33:28Amazing.
33:29Great.
33:29Nicely done.
33:30So how are we going to welcome them home?
33:31Oh, yeah.
33:32What do you want to do?
33:33Tomorrow.
33:34Do you want to pick them up or...
33:35Yeah, yeah, yeah.
33:35Let's pick them up.
33:36Why don't we pick them up?
33:37Do the whole nine yards.
33:37You want us to ride with you?
33:38Yeah, that'd be, you know.
33:40Roll up with the boys.
33:40That's right.
33:41That way, in case they don't like anything, I'll be like, hey.
33:43They do.
33:43Yeah, exactly.
33:45Everything looks amazing.
33:46I think the family's going to love it.
33:47Yeah, it looks great.
33:48I am impressed by your design eye, young sir.
33:50See?
33:50That was a good collaborative effort.
33:51Nicely done.
33:52Team work.
34:02Nothing in the world can stop it
34:04From taking over this party
34:06I'm feeling good, man.
34:07I'm excited to get home.
34:10The rental was awesome,
34:11but there's nothing like your own bed and your own space.
34:14What's your wife's response going to be when she sees this?
34:17She's super excited.
34:19Everybody's filled with anticipation.
34:21The process is a lot of fun.
34:22You guys made it super easy.
34:25And obviously, with your experience,
34:26you knew exactly how to kind of guide me
34:29and fulfill that vision.
34:32So it was a fun process.
34:34I'm incredibly grateful for whatever it is,
34:36but yes, there's been a lot of, like, wondering.
34:40But it's all good wondering.
34:41It's like, what colors do you think they did?
34:43Well, that stuff is all different.
34:46Hey, thanks for doing this.
34:48I appreciate it.
34:49You got it.
34:50You got you.
34:50Well, you know, in all seriousness,
34:52like, I love Toody.
34:53To do something for him and his family, you know,
34:56meant a lot.
34:56This is it.
34:57Okay, let's go.
34:58Close your eyes.
34:59Let's do this.
35:00Go.
35:01No peeking.
35:01Close your eyes.
35:02Close your eyes.
35:02I know how busy he is,
35:03not just with work,
35:04but with his own family
35:05and his own things that he's got going on.
35:07I was getting down.
35:08I was hammering.
35:09I was hammering stuff.
35:10I was hanging stuff.
35:12Painting.
35:12Painting.
35:13I did.
35:13I got down painting.
35:14What do you think?
35:16I was getting in there.
35:17All right.
35:18There we go.
35:18Keep them closed.
35:19Hands down.
35:20You're not going to run in there.
35:21I don't trust them.
35:23I'm getting my contractor's license next.
35:25Take it easy.
35:25Don't get crazy.
35:26Now you're getting crazy.
35:28Hey, close your eyes.
35:30Eyes are closed.
35:30Okay.
35:31On three, open them.
35:31Here we go.
35:33One, two, three.
35:36Wow.
35:37Is this my house?
35:43What?
35:45Wow.
35:45This is incredible.
36:04You remember what it looked like before?
36:06Yeah, fool.
36:07I remember what it looked like.
36:08Oh, my God.
36:10Look at everything's all new, dude.
36:13All right, buddy.
36:15You happy?
36:16Yeah.
36:16I can't believe this is my house.
36:18This is amazing.
36:19It was something that we always wanted to do, but, wow, I've been speechless.
36:23It's amazing.
36:25You know, I'm incredibly grateful for so many things.
36:27This is just like a next level thing.
36:28You know, he's a giving guy, and this is something that I had no idea that it would be like this.
36:33Well, I'm happy I get to do this for, you know, my bro here, Toody.
36:37He's a great guy, deserves great things like this, and, you know, he's got a great family,
36:43and the fact that you guys are so gracious and able to, you know, help me do this for him makes me feel good,
36:50and I know he's going to be happy.
36:51It means everything to me.
36:54Look at the hood right here.
36:55So you don't have to carry pots over for your pasta?
36:58Yeah.
36:58And just fill it right on here?
37:00A new stove.
37:01This is where I live right here.
37:02See, did you notice this?
37:03Look how it's all flush right now.
37:04See?
37:04That's all the fridge is in there.
37:06That's what I, that's the fridge?
37:07Yeah, watch, that's the fridge.
37:10What?
37:11This is amazing.
37:13Look at the dishwasher right here.
37:14See?
37:15Look at how big it is.
37:16This is awesome.
37:17If you only want to do half a load, you only have to load a small one, save water.
37:22Okay.
37:22And you can do the full thing.
37:24It's cool, huh?
37:24Yeah.
37:25Like, everything's very hidden and streamlined.
37:27Yeah, and I like how it's bright, too.
37:29It was, you know, a little dated, and the fact that we were able to kind of modernize it
37:33and make it brighter, and we accomplished what we wanted to do.
37:37And most importantly, everyone seems happy.
37:39We tried to think of everything, not just the aesthetics, but also the function.
37:42This is a porcelain counter.
37:43It looks like stone, but it's porcelain.
37:45Yeah.
37:45You never have to reseal it.
37:46You're not going to stain it.
37:47The kids can spill.
37:48This is good.
37:49It doesn't matter.
37:50It will always clean right back up.
37:51Okay.
37:51And on top of that, you want to make sure that you have use of that countertop for entertaining.
37:56That's why we've tucked away your mixer.
37:58Even over here, all your accessories when you're cooking.
38:01Oh, wow.
38:02Tuck them all in here.
38:02Yeah.
38:03Yeah.
38:03Everything can be tucked away.
38:04You don't need to have your spatulas out in a bowl on the counter.
38:07Those cabinets and how they're all set up, and then the contrast of the colors, too, which
38:12was really cool.
38:13What they did is beautiful.
38:15Take a look at this, Teddy.
38:16Wow.
38:17You'll like the way we've tried to hide everything and make it streamlined and clever.
38:23Yeah, yeah.
38:23You don't even see it?
38:24Yeah.
38:24Give it a push.
38:25You have another whole cabinet here for party supplies and stuff.
38:28Yeah.
38:29Because we didn't have the space.
38:31For me, storage is sexy.
38:32Storage is key.
38:33Exactly.
38:34But I do love having spaces as well where you can congregate together.
38:37And you didn't really have the ability for the kids to sit here and be with you when
38:41you're in the kitchen.
38:42Yeah.
38:43So now it feels very connected.
38:44Yeah.
38:45We have more space.
38:46We all do.
38:47And it's functional.
38:48Like, for that.
38:49For that purpose of, like, my friends and my family and hanging out in, like, a casual
38:54setting.
38:55I just want to see Tiff's reaction when she sees the final product that you and the kids
38:59did.
38:59She's going to love those.
39:01Well, happy wife, happy life, right?
39:02I mean, that's what's all about it.
39:04But more importantly, my wife is, she carries so much weight in this family.
39:09So, yeah, man, what do you think of this classroom space, which is really kind of like a classroom
39:13entertaining space now.
39:14Yes, that's what I love about it.
39:16It's like half classroom, half, like, an incredible space for adults.
39:21This is going to change Tiffany's life daily in so many ways.
39:24She's going to be able to just go straight to the thing and not have to be searching through
39:28piles in various rooms to find a specific book that she needs for a specific lesson.
39:34When you look around here, you'll see the same thing.
39:37We have hid storage everywhere possible, all the way around full depth.
39:40Even under the bench, there's drawers all the way across down here.
39:43Yeah, those are great.
39:44Amazing, because that's what we lack.
39:45And those are deep right there, too.
39:47Yeah.
39:47Look at that, see?
39:48Wow.
39:49I also think it's important that a classroom environment can still feel chic.
39:54This just feels really elevated.
39:57This is the most epic kid space slash adult space you could ever imagine.
40:02Like, this is amazing.
40:03I love it.
40:04Yeah.
40:04When class is dismissed, you know, when the bell rings and we're hanging out, there's
40:10just ample amount of seating now.
40:13That little nook right there, somebody just wants to read or crash out.
40:16Yeah.
40:16So, my daughter's going to love this, because she knits.
40:18She's all about, like, handwork and knitting, and this is what she wanted.
40:23She was like, she wanted the space that she could go and, like, knit in.
40:27This is so cool.
40:29I love this.
40:30I could have never imagined having a kitchen in a learning center this nice, and I just
40:36feel so grateful and so blessed to have it.
40:39And see this cool stockboard and stuff?
40:41This is awesome.
40:41Yes.
40:42My wife's going to love this.
40:43They're going to love this.
40:45Recently, my wife and I, you know, came on some hard times medically, and we got through
40:51it.
40:51Check it out.
40:52This is a comfy spot.
40:53Wow.
40:54This is so awesome.
40:56There was no way that I could have ever redone my kitchen in the near future.
41:00It would have been something that would have happened a decade from now.
41:04This is a little TV.
41:05What a trip, huh?
41:06It's so light and small.
41:08I saw the TV that had what Tiff had written on there the morning that she went to go have
41:14that surgery.
41:15It's special.
41:16It's a really, really special thing.
41:17I just want to thank you guys for including this in everything, because that does mean
41:23a lot to me.
41:24Mm-hmm.
41:24You know?
41:25You've got an amazing family, buddy.
41:28Oh, my goodness.
41:30Oh.
41:31I hear it.
41:32Come on down.
41:35It's beautiful.
41:35Come on in.
41:37Whoa.
41:38Whoa.
41:39What do you think?
41:39How you doing, guys?
41:41Oh, my goodness.
41:42Welcome home.
41:43I'm ever so grateful for Mario and all that he's done, and this has been an absolutely
41:50magical experience.
41:51This is amazing.
41:53It's so different.
41:54Look at this.
41:55I've been blessed with my health and the ability to bounce back, and now we have this amazing
42:02place that we can just make so many fun memories.
42:08No wonder.
42:09Oh.
42:09I'm so, so, so grateful for everything.
42:14Drew, help!
42:15I can't wait to watch the children playing in there, and reading in there, and doing their
42:19work in there, and creating all sorts of chaos in there.
42:24Fun chaos.
42:26This is actually, hold on one sec.
42:27This is a karaoke microphone.
42:30Awesome.
42:31If you just put your face right up to it, all right?
42:34Well, there's no better feeling than to do something nice for someone that you care about,
42:40and they appreciate, and that's the best feeling in the world, right?
42:44And I'm really glad they're happy, and I'm glad the family's happy, and I look forward
42:48to seeing the kids enjoy it.
42:50Thank you, Uncle Mario.
