00:32they dream of my name is Tanya and I collect dollhouse miniatures I love building dioramas
00:47I love creating fabulous little setups with Barbie dolls and I take photos and videos with them my
00:54whole family has mini me's I have 13 grandkids with one more on the way I started collecting
01:01and making content as a way to bond with my grandkids let's set up a playground and now
01:07I'm known online as grandma gets real and I have 1.9 million followers which is pretty amazing for
01:15a grandma but my collection is cluttering my life the reason that I need help because the kids can't go
01:22upstairs now and that I want them to be able to go upstairs and be part of the miniature world I'm
01:27creating it would be great if my mom was able to use the space to spend more time with the grandkids
01:33because they love to do these projects with my mom I want my grandchildren to know how important they
01:39are to me and to make memories with them Tanya has pulled out all of her old toys and attempt to
01:48reconnect with her grandkids but unfortunately all those toys have left no space for grandma so with
01:53my two decades of design experience I'm gonna help her reclaim her space and really reconnect with her
01:58grandkids well hello hi Tanya good to meet you oh my gosh it's so happy to have you here I am so
02:06excited to be here because I hear you have a miniatures collection oh yeah I want to get right
02:09to it can we go see it now oh let's go okay perfect wait just a second dream come true
02:24this is my storage room oh yeah my goodness dolls miniatures and nostalgia how many pieces are in my
02:34collection dolls a thousand nostalgic stuff 100 miniatures 10,000 around a lot of this is my
02:44childhood love the dune buggy oh she has seen better days but we still love her oh my and you even have
02:56like teeny tiny oh yeah I bought too many different sizes I need to stick to what I do mostly which is
03:05one six scale all right so tell me about when you started out eight years ago my granddaughters found
03:10some Barbies in the attic and so they wanted to play with the Barbies and take pictures and I thought
03:15wouldn't it be fun to find some little things to set up little houses that was like the gateway to all
03:20this this whole thing was to spend more time with the grandkids yeah absolutely it was to make a
03:25miniature world for their dolls to play in there's a lot of people that collect things yeah you collect
03:30things and you turn them into something which I think is really cool you're a creative collector yeah
03:34are they any of these like connected to your life in any way like everything we do is my life in
03:39miniature so the hospital room then tell me about that well we use this sometimes for having babies
03:44and it's also been a cancer ward a couple of years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer and I felt
03:51like I had a choice to keep it a secret not tell anybody or share my story and help other people
03:57you know time is limited for everybody if not everybody gets to grow old so let's make the most
04:03of the time and so it's a way for me to tell my story in miniatures I'm still in contact with so
04:10many people that have reached out and told me their story and said thank you for sharing yours
04:15if I could do one thing for Tanya it is helping her get back to the basics of why she started this
04:21which is connecting with her grandkids what is it in this room that you would like to accomplish I
04:27would love to walk into this room and have all of the dioramas set up so that the kids could play in
04:33them and we could photograph okay how much of the house has this collection taken over the whole
04:39upstairs is there a room at all up here that the grandkids can stay in no you want to see lead
04:46the way all right here we've got lots of miniatures okay but how organized is this then I have a secret
04:55room a big room of Barbies oh do you smell that Barbies money money everyone it's time
05:05stand up straight oh I have a feeling there's some rare Barbies that have the most value I hope so
05:16happy family the grandma is my mini me this is the doll that I use to be me in all of my stuff it is
05:25you've got two grandmas I wait no one two three you've got four grandmas that's probably where we
05:31can find some money I have another room to show you oh this is the guest room oh careful careful we
05:40would have to move a few things this ideally would be a guest room grandkids would stay right so my job
05:48then is getting the studio done and then also making a space for the grandkids in here so here's
05:55what I think we could do for the studio I added new cabinetry additional shelving and I labeled bins
06:01that will store all your miniatures even the bulky doll houses transforming a storage room into a more
06:06functional workroom that doubles as a ready-to-shoot studio space meanwhile your guest room will get a
06:12customized dollhouse themed bunk bed for the grandkids new furniture as well as much-needed sprucing up but if
06:18you want extra bells and whistles I'd add deep cabinets and floor-to-ceiling storage in the studio
06:23so you have more ways to stay organized plus room to show off all your favorite pieces that would be a
06:30dream yeah what budget are we working with okay 18,000 okay that's not bad I think I'd probably need
06:39like 20,000 so that way I can show you both spaces and bring in more functional furniture and customize your
06:44storage options so we're definitely gonna have to find some things to sell to up your budget a little
06:50bit I'm very sentimental and I do love the junk that I've collected everyone does my daughter Ashley told
06:56me that my little things have become a very big problem so I'm willing to to think about it and and
07:03see what you want to do I have an expert that's gonna start evaluating things and trying to figure out
07:07where exactly we can find some nice valuable moments that you are willing to part with I have
07:15never had anything appraised before I'm willing to get rid of my stuff but I would hope I'm not gonna
07:20just not get very much for it you are going to just be blown away she has so much stuff my name is Kelly
07:30and I'm a vintage toy expert and I do miniatures I play with toys every day this is my daughter Ashley
07:36hi Ashley it's great to finally meet you in person this is what is supposed to be her functioning studio so a
07:48lot of stuff in here but a lot of cool things a lot of nostalgic things to me anything what I mean
07:56it's a doom buggy but I don't know which one it's the original Ken hot rod right Alan it's in good
08:01shape too yeah is that worth anything yeah that worth anything $100 this is a good piece that is a great
08:17cheat sheet the 21st century did a line and their stuff is very realistic what do you think something like this is worth I would
08:23say at least $200 if not more what I've learned in here is there is a lot of stuff right maybe not a lot of stuff worth a
08:32ton of money she also has a Barbie room and the Barbie room I think is where we're
08:36going to be able to find things that we can sell pretty quickly is this stuff that you use this is stuff I use okay here's her money right here this is $800
08:45this was from the 2020 convention they canceled the convention because you can't have it during
08:52COVID you don't want Barbie getting COVID no it's a reproduction of a number one it's uh very rare
08:56wow peaches and cream she's my favorite this was the Barbie of the 80s that everybody wanted and I did
09:04not get one in a box I found one at a garage sale and it was my precious Barbie 80s stuff is popular
09:12right now anything 80s is really good there's more up there there's another really good one up there
09:16is it her yes the Madrid convention Barbie this is gorgeous not only is she a Barbie but she has a
09:24miniature she has a mini yeah she's a little Oscar and they did that back in the 60s with Barbie they did
09:30make a couple outfits that came with a little miniature Barbie huh these you're willing to part with um for
09:36your grandkids grandma there's a couple of those that I'm willing to part with she's worth hundreds
09:42she's at least three what makes toys and collectibles valuable condition is very important if it's in a box
09:49and how much somebody wants it that's really what it boils down to here we have happy family I will say
09:55I noticed this right when I walked in these are amazing you have so many and she has duplicates of a lot
10:01of them as well yes now I feel like we do have to keep one this is great definitely yeah because
10:07that's her but in theory if we weren't keeping our happy family and we were keeping our real family
10:11happy how much what would we be how much happier would this family be if this happy family would I
10:17will tell you I'd say about 1200 for the entire happy family collection I see a really cool bunk bed in
10:24their future I don't know if I can do it but they are my happy family is my thing my content started
10:31with happy family so I can't sell it her happy family has a death grip on her yes I love my happy
10:37family but I don't want to do all this and get rid of so much of my stuff and then not be able to do
10:42content and I love doing social media I can't put a price on passion Tanya could sell her collection
10:49anywhere right now she could put it online she could do private sales have people come over
10:54I might take some of this off your hand for you if you're ready for it I can kind of do some
10:59networking and see what people are looking for she could always bring stuff to my store I'll sell it
11:04for you I cannot thank you enough you don't want me for letting me in on this all right Tanya I know
11:10we found quite a bit of stuff in here that we can get rid of how are we feeling thus far I'm okay
11:15it's a lot but I'm okay you know obviously being diagnosed with cancer it's it's a big thing we
11:21just lost my father two years ago so right around the time that you were diagnosed we lost my dad and
11:25I know the things that were really important to him like riding horses he was a cowboy I know he he
11:31would give up all that yeah yeah special time yeah the whole tiny world she's created it got her through
11:39cancer diagnosis I feel like you're at that point now where you realize that these Barbies were fun
11:48but it's stuff the grandkids the grandkids are exactly my mom died at 62 and I turned 62 this year
11:56you know I've got time now and I want to make the most of it I think we have enough to start swinging
12:01hammers if you're willing to let go of a few things Kelly offered to sell some things in her store would
12:08you be down for that see if I can sell my Barbies Kelly has said she's willing to buy some stuff from
12:20me so we're gonna sell some of my dolls even though I was very reluctant I don't part with things that
12:25easily I know but I will do anything for those grandkids which brings me to these okay so let me
12:32see what we got here the Madrid skipper talent is really great and you know what probably Mitch I
12:41think for these I can maybe do like two thousand dollars all in for all four for four well okay you
12:52know it's got to be done yes I I can do this I can I'm letting go I'm proud of you
12:57I have spent two days cleaning out my room it's almost empty I hope you're happy Bobby
13:09we've been busy at work we've got a lot accomplished I want Tanya to see how much
13:17we've got done because I wanted to motivate her because we also have decisions to make
13:21on some upgrades to get the spaces really really amazing it'll be worth the money what do you think
13:27what do you think I love it lower cabinets are in I love the countertops look at all the space to
13:35display my dioramas so what we're doing now is we're getting ready to put in the shelves that's
13:40gonna be nice yeah the shelves are gonna go up about 10 feet right but I could take them all the way up to
13:45the ceiling to add even more storage okay to do that obviously you're gonna be able to have to
13:50access it somehow not safely um you can't let the grandkids climb up the shelves either so I want to
13:58do a really cool like rolling ladder in here okay there's a ladder that I want to do it's pricey but
14:03it's really gonna make the room the most functional it can be the most important part of this entire
14:07process is getting her the space that she needs to spend quality time with her grandkids and that's
14:12exactly what we're doing to do the ladder though and attach it safely I'm gonna have to do a soffit
14:17above the shelves so the ladder has something very solid to mountain um that'll be about an extra 4,500

15:13have to be happy with that because I'm gonna have a studio now he's gonna put a ladder in but we need

15:31today I've worked with Kelly to set up a really great private sale in the backyard we need to make
15:36another 4,500 I'm a little nervous and hoping I make enough money selling some of these toys and
15:43dolls I need to make 4,500 with this yard sale to get the ladder and all that did you notice that this
15:51is a hand crocheted blanket I mean I say at least a hundred dollars on that right yeah absolutely this
16:00has been on my grill list for a really long time she is very rare she's amazing and stunning are you
16:10open to eight for both of them I can't say that there'll be a two for one deal she's worth eight
16:19on her own she's worth eight yeah this is the one thing that I had to pry out of her cold dead hands
16:26there were tears involved I can't condone going any less than the 800 that I know she's worth
16:31yeah okay leave your number yeah leave your number and I'll call you and if I'm desperate
16:37right I'm not going to be a part of asking you to go cheaper on her though Tanya has some very
16:42expensive Barbies that she did not want to part with yet I get it though those command a specific
16:47price there are very few of them in the world so hopefully maybe the buyer will change their mind
16:51and come back for the right price there's not many peaches and cream out there and she's also
16:56Ashley's favorite chick yes she's my favorite no that's it the only thing my mother had that I said
17:06I lied yeah we weren't sure if she was going to let it go but I think for this for my mother yes for
17:13my children I think we can let her go I'm just going to pay the 300 yeah it's working I am hoping to
17:21make 4500 that was the goal that Bobby set for me and I think we're going to do it so I'm excited
17:27that Winnebago my dad had one exactly like it oh my gosh then you need it 80 more dollars
17:33whoa we just hit our goal we're at 4500 everything else is just gravy and
17:38spending money for you to go out and buy more stuff

17:51final day it is reveal day I've got to put some finishing touches I've got to make these miniature
17:55worlds sparkle because I can't wait for Tanya to walk in and realize that life is better with less
18:02I'm enjoying letting go actually this has been a lot of work but I'm so excited I was a little
18:08embarrassed to have people come in and see what a mess I am maybe I felt like a failure something
18:13I have not been able to overcome so I'm ready to see it finished we have finally made it today is the
18:22day that you get to see the new spaces so are you ready I am ready I'm very excited let's get up there
18:28all right oh my gosh Ashley oh my gosh this is amazing you took this mess of a storage room and
18:41turned it into a studio I really wanted to make sure that this space was not only organized better
18:50with the the shelving and the ladder but that you also had a counter height area to do your thing this
18:56is beautiful this is perfect for you and the grandkids to sit here there's barstools for them
19:00to play and sit and for you to sit and then you have got a ladder to access everything you know and
19:10it also so this is more vertical leans out a little bit more for safety okay this sofa is a pull out
19:17sofa these both pop out to be beds so that way if more than two grandkids want to spend the night you
19:22can have sleepovers with multiple grandkids of course here you are just sitting here watching
19:28being able to share a space with grandma I think is really really important because you have spent
19:33so much time in my miniature world uh-huh oh it's me we took a ken that we had and we cut his hair
19:41and we colored it and we found some clothes that matched what bobby had worn we were so excited to
19:46show bobby that he now had a mini me you'll remember me in my world thank you always i always
19:52will now we have one more space to see of course and that is the kids room i mean walk me through what
19:58it was before well there was a guest bed in there but i had so much stuff in there there was no room
20:03for guests well there definitely is now so let's go check it out let's go see it

20:14now we have this amazing dollhouse bunk bed and i just think it ties these rooms together so nicely
20:20the kids are gonna have so much fun because this isn't just a bed like it's a play place as well
20:26it's like a fort if they're gonna be up in that thing right away they're gonna love it we did the
20:30wainscoting on the wall because i wanted to add an extra detail we put the little bean bags here so
20:35they can have somewhere to sit and read books or play on their screens my biggest question is was
20:40this worth it was this worth it ashley was this life changing we built tanya's dream house now
20:46i am so excited it's totally worth it not only am i excited about the studio but the grandkids are
20:51gonna go crazy when they see this good so it i i did good i did good you did great i think this is
20:58going to have a big impact on tanya's daily life this is about how this is going to affect not just the
21:02way she does her hobby but the way she gets to interact with her grandkids i absolutely feel
21:07more at peace in my home than when i started i'm so excited to have this to share not only with
21:14my grandkids but i might even have company it's a bunk bed i don't want to stay here yeah you want to
21:22get up in it can you get a sleeve here yeah you can see a chicken yeah let's see get in the little house
