00:00Well, one of the things is that whenever you Google Liberia, you only see about wars, Ebola, or some other disease, something that's not positive.
00:14And there's so much more going on.
00:16The war, first the coup in 1980, the war in 1990, and then you had the Ebola in the 2000s and COVID.
00:25And all those things are things of the past, but we still have issues.
00:30And I thought that going back would be easy, but it hasn't been easy because there's been such a brain drain with each problem more people leave.
00:45And so you're left with a society that has a very high illiteracy rate.
00:50And so something like FGM that should be easily understood that it's wrong.
00:55It's not considered wrong.
00:57It's not against the law.
00:59And the ZOCO problems, they are just young men who fought in the war as child soldiers.
01:07They're now adults.
01:08They're married.
01:08They have children.
01:09They're jobless.
01:10They're criminals.
01:11Okay, they will yank your purse in a minute.
01:13They will do anything they can to be able to give food to their children on a daily basis.
01:22So we have a problem that's based on illiteracy.
01:26I think all the problems in Liberia are based on illiteracy and hunger.
01:32And would you also say tradition?
01:34Tradition, yes.
01:35But let me tell you, people forget about tradition if their stomach's full and if they have a job.
01:40Very, very, very true.
