20:29good.
21:56Got to be behind, okay?
21:58Got to make that step.
22:04Big step.
22:06Now pull in a sweep.
22:07Good.
22:08That'll look good.
22:09Now we're going to access that from a punch.
22:12It's going to be a reaching crossing block.
22:14You can reach through the block with the back of your hand.
22:18And step behind her in the same sweep.
22:24Good.
22:25Good motion.
22:26Now I'm going to have you change your footing.
22:31Same crossing block, but when you block, cross step.
22:37And come around behind and sweep the opposite leg.
22:47Good motion.
22:52Okay.
22:53You guys know the undercupping block and the crank flip.
22:56I want you to set yourself up on that.
23:26I want you to set yourself up on that.
23:27I want you to set yourself up on that.
23:28I want you to set yourself up on that.
23:28I want you to set yourself up on that.
23:29I want you to set yourself up on that.
23:30I want you to set yourself up on that.
23:31I want you to set yourself up on that.
23:32I want you to set yourself up on that.
23:33I want you to set yourself up on that.
23:34I want you to set yourself up on that.
23:35I want you to set yourself up on that.
23:36I want you to set yourself up on that.
23:37I want you to set yourself up on that.
23:38I want you to set yourself up on that.
26:09In this technique, we're going to incorporate an inside block with a lateral fade instead
26:21of a rear fade.
26:22So when Eric punches me, my fade's going to look like this.
26:26I'm going to fade along the line of his arm and try to shift his weight to the outside
26:31edge of his near foot.
26:34To that, I'm going to add a hammer heel technique to the back of his thigh.
26:39So when I come here, I'm going to throw my leg forward and then contacting with my heel right
26:45on the hamstring.
27:09I'm going to dick.
27:10I'm going to add aļæ½e 42-
27:11damage.
27:11I'm going to add an evoke but again, just for my heart.
27:12All right.
27:12Let's go ahead and close your leg.
27:13And I finish up using this until now, which is the only one of the s gonna do.
27:17And then for me, which is easy to be used for it's a pretty deep
27:26middle of thepic.
31:57Don't make too hard a contact.
32:05Okay.
32:06Take your head up.
32:09Do it again.
32:10Keep your head up.
32:11Good.
32:13That's a better, much, much better.
32:15Do it again.
32:16And this time, this time, knock him down.
32:17And this time, knock him down.
32:21Good.
32:22When you drop your head, coming into these techniques, it pushes your hips back.
32:30It changes your whole body position within the technique.
32:34You can make a little bit of a little bit of a kick, so you can do this.
32:41That's what you're going to do.
32:42So you need to stand direct so you have your hips underneath your face so they can connect
32:42to the kick.
32:43That way, you get maximum momentum in the kick because you have all your weight involved in
32:45kicking.
32:45The next technique is kind of slick, you're going to use an over cuffing block, and you're
32:56going to pinch right at the end, turn your hips in, and use a heel kick, a reverse kick
33:01to back up into the short ribs, okay, floating ribs.
33:05Okay, this is done fairly close, and it's done as one movement, so close on each other
33:11a little bit.
33:16Good.
33:17All you have to do to make this almost perfect is just as you're punching through, raise your
33:24knee up a little bit more, turn your hips down, and kick up from here.
33:33Just turn through it just a little bit more.
33:39One more time.
33:42Don't drop his hand.
33:44He'll have a better target.
33:47Good.
33:48Okay, the next technique is an access to his head.
33:56You're going to do a crossing block, a flat block like this.
34:02Peel his hand around, and do a basic whistle.
34:05Okay?
34:06When the head comes down, you're going to use the same crescent kick for the side of his
34:11head.
34:12Watch him.
34:13They'll make hard contact on the side of his head.
34:23Okay.
34:24Do it again.
34:25It'll be a little quicker.
34:26Cover.
34:27Snap the head down.
34:28Good.
34:29Good.
34:30The next technique incorporated two contact points, the back of the ankle and just below
34:39the knee, accessing that with your foot.
34:43So follow a punch with this side.
34:46To make it easy, I want you to cross step, sitting down with your right foot.
34:58Good.
34:59Okay?
35:00Pop back up.
35:01Let's do it again.
35:02Now, do the same thing, only this time, do the same side with your left foot.
35:08All you need is the same contact points.
35:10You can do this inside, outside, across, same side, whatever.
35:15Just try it same side one time, and you'll see what I'm talking about.
35:23Okay?
35:24Good.
35:27One more time.
35:28This time, step inside his leg with the same side leg instead of outside.
35:35Good motion.
35:40Okay.
35:41This last one is your favorite.
35:46It's a flying scissors.
35:48So you're going to line up on him a little bit sideways.
35:51It's an overreaching block.
35:54A kick to the abdomen with the shin.
35:57You're going to lock on him to take him down and double kick.
35:59Kick to the groin, kick to the throat, and then out of there.
36:04Okay?
36:05Go ahead and give it a good shot.
36:10Good motion.
36:17Good motion.
36:18Good motion.
36:32Okay.
36:33All right.
36:34Good motion.
36:36Let's go.
37:06Let's go.
37:36In this set, we're going to look at some of the very basic kick blocks in Hapkido.
37:52There are some very important subtleties to each of these, and I'll try to cover them
37:57as we talk about them.
37:58The first kick is just a snap kick to my center.
38:03As Eric kicks, I'm going to cross with my knee and step back down and stroke his leg.
38:11I'm catching his heel right at the Achilles and hooking that around.
38:18Right here, Eric can hit me with both of his hands.
38:22Okay?
38:23This isn't a good kick block.
38:25The subtlety in this block that's important is a tiny bit of hip torque on my part, just
38:30a little.
38:32As soon as I turn that and offset Eric's hips from his down leg, now I have an opportunity
38:37to take him to the mat.
38:38I'll place my hand on his hip pointer and use my back hand and my forward hand as levers
38:45to knock him straight down.
38:49My target now is right at his groin.
38:52The second technique we practice from a waist-level kick as well.
39:07I'm going to have the same leg movement as Eric kicks towards me.
39:10I'm going to cross with my leg and step back.
39:14This time, instead of sweeping outside with my hand, I'm going to sweep inside with it.
39:18Pick the leg up.
39:19Again, I'm going to move his hips just slightly to shorten his reach.
39:24At the same time, I'm going to grab his gi jacket and I'm going to jump through and dump
39:31him as I peg his leg.
39:43In this technique, I'm going to sweep Eric's leg to the outside with my arm.
39:48Again, he's going to kick me with the other leg.
39:49As he kicks, I'm going to sweep through.
39:52Again, what's important is movement in his hips.
39:55I'm going to take it just a little bit to move his hips and then return it back to him.
40:00It's hard for him to stand up when I do that.
40:02In this technique, I'm going to use the same outside sweep with my arm as I did in the last
40:15technique.
40:16But instead of throwing Eric away, I'm going to step in and spin and do a spin kick to his
40:22down leg.
40:23It'll look like this, slowly.
40:24As he kicks me, I'm going to sweep and step into him with my inside foot.
40:31And here, I'm going to keep turning away to draw his hips and kick towards the back of
40:37his leg.
40:38Let's do that slowly.
40:39Here, if I'm in position, I can step down on his crutch.
40:57This technique is used for a mid-body level roundhouse kick.
41:04Eric's going to kick me through my torso.
41:07So, I'm going to cross and step into him again using both hands.
41:11Wrapping up, I'm going to take his knee and snap it forward and down and fall with him
41:17with my arm wedged into his knee joint.
41:20From here.
41:21If I have to, I'll grab his clothes to spin the leg.
41:31Let's have Elaine practice these techniques with Paul.
41:35The first one was a straight kick to the abdominal area.
41:39It's an outside sweep with the arm.
41:41You've got to get that little movement in the hips, remember?
41:43A little pull.
41:44Good.
41:45Push into his thigh and knock him down.
41:48Do it one more time, please.
41:52A little tug.
41:54Good.
41:55Second motion is an inward sweep with the arm.
42:01Same leg motion as before.
42:05And this time, you're going to move those hips again.
42:08That's critical.
42:09At the same time, you're going to reach up and grab the gi jacket.
42:13Then you'll step back through him, peg that ankle that's down, and knock him down to the opposite shoulder.
42:19Let's do it again.
42:29Keep it tight.
42:33Good.
42:34The third motion sweeps to the outside of the kick, and it lifts it through and away from the hips.
42:46And after you feel those hips shift, all you have to do is put the other hand on the foot, and you can drive him, just like he's got a post attached to him.
42:54Okay?
42:55Got to get the hips to move, though.
42:57If the hips don't move, the motion doesn't move.
43:02Okay, that was a little sluggish because you didn't really get his hips.
43:04You lifted him up.
43:06You want to lift him away from himself as he punches, otherwise his hands are going to come in, too.
43:14Much better.
43:17Now, we're going to incorporate that same movement with a step.
43:21And as you step, turn your ankle towards him because you want to spin around this and drag back up and into the downward.
43:51Bye-bye.
43:52Bye.
43:52Okay.
43:53Bye-bye.
43:54Bye-bye.
44:11Bye-bye.
44:14Bye-bye.
44:20Bye-bye.
49:49Take you.
49:59with. Open your hand up and bend that finger back. Good. The next technique we did from
50:13a belt grab, so Elaine just spin around, Paul, grab her with one hand. You're going to step
50:22across him while taking your near arm around his back. Stroke his opposite arm into your
50:27body and take him straight over your hip. Good. The way she did that, there was no strain
50:36on her back. It's very important to do this technique correctly to push her back. The next
50:47technique is going to be the exact same technique off a straight punch. You're going to do an
50:52over-cupping block and ride his arm in to tuck in behind his waist. Step across exactly
50:58the same way, looking for the other arm trying to strike. So a straight punch, Paul. Good.
51:09Feel a little loose in the beginning, so you have about that much space between your hip
51:13and his body. You have to drag him in. Do this again. Make sure you tuck yourself in real
51:18tight under his hips. Much better. Much better. The last technique is a little bump. You're
51:35going to take your small body, work inside his, and bump him in the hips with your hip. You
51:41do that, if you can move his hips back just an inch or two, you'll be able to take his whole
51:46body and just throw it. So, it's going to be a straight punch. You want to fade with the
51:52same side foot as you do this. And reach. And step inside. Grab the gi, step inside. Pop and
52:03throw. Okay? Make this a little bit better. As you do this now, go ahead and make your block
52:09and your reach. Okay? Now grab one. Step inside his instep. Pick your head up. All right?
52:18As you bump. Throw him forward. When you drop your head, you have a tendency to bring your own
52:24hips back so you don't get a real positive hip. One more time. Keep your head up as you're
52:28coming in. Good. This concludes volume four. In these first four volumes in this video series,
52:51you've seen all motion that was empty handed. In the next volume, volume five, we're going
52:58to be using nothing but weapons. These weapons are weapons common to Hopkido. We're going
53:03to look at a small stick, a long staff, rope motion or belt motion, and also cane motion.
53:21Here's the first thing I'm going to write down the map. The other one's going to be looking at
53:24the 100 percent, a long staff, rope, a long staff. Those are the two more
53:28ones that are locked up, and this is quite a long staff that's not been used to
53:30track the game. Of course, this is quite the same way. But, you know, on ŠŃmen, you're
53:33looking at all your head up and you're looking at the center of the
53:36foundation. So you've also looked at the center of what you're looking at and what you're
53:37looking at. So you're looking at. I'm the one of the three
53:42of the most aggressive and yet people are looking at. So you're looking
53:44at the center of the center of the center of the center of the center of the center of the
54:20Crime and violence is right behind you.
