00:00New information this morning on the so-called Epstein Files.
00:06A deep review by the Associated Press of newly released Justice Department records
00:10confirms that Jeffrey Epstein sexually abused underage girls,
00:15but found no evidence of a broader sex trafficking ring involving powerful men,
00:20as some conspiracy theories have claimed.
00:23The AP examined millions of pages of documents recently released by the Justice Department,
00:28along with video and photographic evidence recovered from Epstein's homes in New York, Florida, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
00:35While multiple accusers said other men abused them, investigators concluded there was not enough evidence
00:41to bring federal charges against anyone beyond Epstein and his longtime associate, Jelaine Maxwell.
00:47Federal prosecutors did confirm that Epstein, who pleaded guilty in 2008 to soliciting an underage girl,
00:53served time, and was later arrested again in 2019, sexually abused Virginia Jaffray, one of his most prominent accusers.
01:01But according to an email cited by the AP from former Assistant U.S. Attorney Maureen Comey,
01:07investigators found no photos or videos showing victims being abused by others,
01:12no images implicating additional men,
01:15and no evidence supporting charges beyond Epstein and Maxwell.
01:18Maxwell is slated to appear from prison later today before the House Oversight Committee.
01:24Her lawyers say she will plead the fifth.
01:26Members of Congress will begin reviewing unredacted Justice Department files today as well.
