00:00:00You sitting? Come sit. Come sit. Come have a seat. Come sit. This is so good. This is so good.
00:00:05This is so good. Thank you. All right, here we go. So I would like for you right now
00:00:09to close your eyes and just listen to me. Close your eyes and just listen to me.
00:00:15Close your eyes and just listen to me. But really start listening to you.
00:00:19Start listening to you. Think about the prayer you had that you really thought it was all over,
00:00:26but today you woke up and you're here. Think about the people that do make you smile.
00:00:32Think about the people that work right now, beating up some pavement, taking out trash,
00:00:38returning emails, hiding from their bosses. Huh? And what you doing right now?
00:00:44Chilling. I want you to think about what you're going to do when you leave here.
00:00:48I want you to think about the people sitting at home right now that miss you, but you had to take a break.
00:00:53I want you to think about your own self for a minute. All you mothers, all you fathers,
00:00:56who we always got more and more on our plates. Now that you thought about it, open your eyes.
00:01:03Smile. We blessed. That's what I came here to do.
00:01:06My name is Dr. Javar Godfrey. I'm out of Tampa, Florida. My whole thing is emotional health.
00:01:12Say emotional health. Emotional health. That's my thing.
00:01:16So my program is called Triple Threat, which stands for Thoughts, Triggers, and Trauma.
00:01:21So we'll go through a little bit of that today, and I'm telling y'all right now, I'm coming to your seat,
00:01:25because I talk to everybody, and we're all in.
00:01:27And for you at home, get some paper and pencil out. Y'all know how this goes.
00:01:31So the first thing I want to do is let everybody understand something.
00:01:36Forever starts today. Forever starts today.
00:01:42And everybody in here is hiding something.
00:01:45Everybody in here is hiding something.
00:01:46You got a secret, and you're going to keep it.
00:01:50So since we're there, we're all on the same level now.
00:01:53You got a secret, and you're going to keep it.
00:01:56And since we're on the same level now, you are not alone.
00:01:58So y'all hear me say that a lot.
00:02:00I guess you would call it an acronym, but I use YANA. Say YANA.
00:02:04A little louder.
00:02:06YANA.
00:02:07You are not alone.
00:02:09You're not alone.
00:02:11So there it is.
00:02:13I want you to look at this chart back at home, take a screenshot of it,
00:02:17because a lot of us complain a lot about not being able to talk to people.
00:02:20It's a very easy way to talk to people.
00:02:22I want you to give me your combination.
00:02:25What's your combination?
00:02:25If you had to put together these numbers, what's your combination?
00:02:29Talk to me.
00:02:30So today, Dr. Godfrey's a one, two, three, four, and five.
00:02:34But where are you at?
00:02:36Where are you sitting settled at?
00:02:37And be real with yourself, because the biggest lie you can tell is to yourself.
00:02:41The biggest lie you can tell is to yourself.
00:02:46So talk to me.
00:02:46What's your combination?
00:02:48Where are you at today?
00:02:49I'm one through five.
00:02:51Another one through five.
00:02:53I like the glasses, so I got to talk to you.
00:02:55Talk to me.
00:02:56What's your combination?
00:02:57One through five.
00:02:58Give me another one through five.
00:03:00And this is also tools.
00:03:01I told them I would give y'all tools.
00:03:03This is how you talk to your kids.
00:03:05This is how you talk to your spouse, everybody.
00:03:08They ain't got to open their mouth.
00:03:09Tell them to give me your combination.
00:03:10Give me your combination.
00:03:11These are tools out there.
00:03:15Point five.
00:03:16That's how long it takes to meet somebody and put your thing on them.
00:03:19I'm like, oh, they this, they that.
00:03:20That's how fast labels come.
00:03:22That's how fast labels come.
00:03:25That's how fast labels come.
00:03:27So we're about to play that game card rapid fire.
00:03:30What's the name of the game?
00:03:31This is not going to work.
00:03:32What's the name of the game?
00:03:34There we go.
00:03:35You got seven seconds to answer the question.
00:03:37If you're at home, you know how I do.
00:03:39Get a piece of paper and a pencil.
00:03:40If you're sitting right here, get your phones out so you can type these answers in.
00:03:43And we're getting ready to go.
00:03:44Seven seconds to answer the question.
00:03:45Remember, the biggest lie you can tell is to yourself.
00:03:49Stop lying to yourself.
00:03:49Question number one.
00:03:51Who do you want to see?
00:03:53Who you want to see?
00:03:54Who y'all want to see?
00:03:54Talk to me.
00:03:55Who y'all looking to see?
00:03:56Who y'all want to see?
00:03:57Who you want to see?
00:03:58Who you want to see?
00:03:59Who?
00:04:00Ice Cube.
00:04:01I heard Ice Cube.
00:04:01Who else?
00:04:02Who you want to see?
00:04:03I want to see.
00:04:04You got my Lauren here?
00:04:07Missy.
00:04:08Who you want to see?
00:04:10Don't worry about it.
00:04:10Leave it alone.
00:04:11Leave it alone.
00:04:11We'll go to the next one.
00:04:12All right.
00:04:13Next question.
00:04:16When's the last time you was happy two days in a row?
00:04:18Now we're getting into it.
00:04:20Ooh, you see everybody sit up and settle.
00:04:21Woo-hoo.
00:04:22Sit up and settle in now.
00:04:24Tell me my time.
00:04:25Y'all better tell you my time.
00:04:26Sit up and settle.
00:04:26That boy straightened up like.
00:04:29When's the last time you was happy two days in a row?
00:04:32There we go.
00:04:33Let's start talking to ourselves.
00:04:34When's the last time you was happy two days in a row?
00:04:36Real life.
00:04:37Here we go.
00:04:40How often is your mind at peace?
00:04:42How often is your mind at peace?
00:04:48This is a question you wake up to every morning.
00:04:50How often is your mind at you like that?
00:04:52I see that.
00:04:53Like, yeah.
00:04:53How often is your mind at peace?
00:04:59Who makes you feel seen, alive, and motivated?
00:05:05Who is it?
00:05:06My kids.
00:05:07My mama.
00:05:09Who makes you?
00:05:10You know, father, it's something we don't do,
00:05:11because this is the men's experience.
00:05:13We don't really talk about the pain that we go through physically.
00:05:16And I want to give y'all another tool.
00:05:17I work with a lot of athletes.
00:05:19And one thing we do not do is get fixed.
00:05:21We hurting.
00:05:22You really hurt.
00:05:23Your back hurt.
00:05:24Your neck hurt.
00:05:25All this.
00:05:26You can't do nothing with all this.
00:05:27It hurt.
00:05:27Y'all know what I'm talking about.
00:05:29The heat, heat, for real.
00:05:31All this hurt.
00:05:32Any one of us, any one of these men in here right now,
00:05:34get touched right here, you're going to be like, uh, mercy.
00:05:38Right now.
00:05:39Right at home.
00:05:40If I spoke another language, I'll say it to y'all.
00:05:42You know what I'm talking about.
00:05:43If they hit you right now, I don't care who it is.
00:05:46You're watching, women.
00:05:47Yeah.
00:05:47Somebody come up to the back and hit you.
00:05:48Just, my God.
00:05:49And my point is, sometimes that turns into arguments.
00:05:53Sometimes that turns into really, really bad comments.
00:05:56Because you're hurting.
00:05:57So, for whatever this is, go get fixed.
00:06:00Let them touch on you.
00:06:01And if you're out here with your man, or you're back home,
00:06:03you know what you can get us?
00:06:04A massage.
00:06:05Try that.
00:06:06And go from here, to here, to here.
00:06:11And I guarantee he'll be a happier guy.
00:06:13It's the man's experience.
00:06:14Sorry, y'all.
00:06:14It's up to us.
00:06:15It's up to us.
00:06:15All right.
00:06:16Here we go.
00:06:17Where we at?
00:06:19Come on.
00:06:20Ooh.
00:06:21Whose energy helps you heal?
00:06:24When you're around them, you feel great.
00:06:26Like, ooh.
00:06:27Where you go?
00:06:28Come back.
00:06:29I miss you.
00:06:30Whose energy helps you heal?
00:06:33I like that.
00:06:34Write it down.
00:06:35And at home, if they sit next to you, write their name backwards.
00:06:39Write their name backwards.
00:06:41All right.
00:06:41Here we go.
00:06:42Whose energy is your enemy?
00:06:45You get around them, you know it's toxic.
00:06:47Whose energy?
00:06:48You ain't got a whisper right here?
00:06:49Write it down.
00:06:49I see you.
00:06:50Whose energy is your enemy?
00:06:51If they sit next to you, wink to your left.
00:06:53Just wink to me like that.
00:06:54Wink to me like that.
00:06:55If they sit next to you, wink to me like that.
00:06:59If they sit next to you, wink to me like that.
00:07:01All right.
00:07:02Whose energy did you miss?
00:07:05Whose energy did you miss?
00:07:08These good questions?
00:07:11Oh, that is nice.
00:07:13Sweetest thing I've ever known.
00:07:14That's what I want to see.
00:07:15It's like a kid's song.
00:07:17I just seen her at the time.
00:07:18Y'all better go see Lauren.
00:07:20Don't nobody want to see Lauren?
00:07:20Yeah.
00:07:22Sweetest.
00:07:23You like that?
00:07:24Sound a little good.
00:07:24All right.
00:07:26Let's move.
00:07:27Let's move.
00:07:27How much time?
00:07:29All right.
00:07:30I want y'all to pay really close attention to this screen.
00:07:32You ready?
00:07:34Count the jumps.
00:07:36All I want you to do is count the jumps.
00:07:39How many times?
00:07:41We ready?
00:07:46Focus.
00:07:47Ready?
00:07:48Focus.
00:07:49Go.
00:07:49Count them.
00:07:50One.
00:07:51Start counting.
00:07:52Focus.
00:07:54Come on.
00:07:55Count them.
00:07:57Come on.
00:07:58Count them.
00:07:59Eight.
00:07:59Seven.
00:08:00Count them.
00:08:03All right.
00:08:04How many jumps did you get?
00:08:05How many got 11?
00:08:06If you answered 11, congratulations.
00:08:09That's correct.
00:08:09Congratulations.
00:08:10Watch.
00:08:10But.
00:08:11But.
00:08:12Did you see the gorilla?
00:08:13Did you see the gorilla?
00:08:14Who delicately took him into the frame.
00:08:16Ah.
00:08:16Did you see the gorilla though?
00:08:19You didn't.
00:08:21And most times we don't see that because we so focused on one thing.
00:08:24And that's something we got to work on y'all.
00:08:26See the whole thing.
00:08:27A gorilla walked in on us like.
00:08:29And we ain't even see it.
00:08:31We ain't even see it.
00:08:32And that's a gorilla.
00:08:33Imagine what else we missing in our life.
00:08:35Imagine what else we missing in our life.
00:08:37A gorilla walked in the screen on us.
00:08:39Right here.
00:08:40We just counting.
00:08:41We got 11 right.
00:08:42We missed everything else.
00:08:43And that's what we need to talk about with us being men.
00:08:46Don't miss that no more.
00:08:47Take time out for you.
00:08:48Take time out for you.
00:08:50All right.
00:08:53We're going to skip that.
00:08:55All right.
00:08:56Let's come on.
00:08:56So I don't move.
00:08:57Thoughts.
00:08:58So I really, really want y'all to put this in place.
00:09:00I'm coming to watch your mouse move.
00:09:02I want to make sure everybody can read.
00:09:03I'm also an educator.
00:09:04I write curriculum for schools.
00:09:05So we're about to do this together.
00:09:06We ready?
00:09:08I don't like that.
00:09:08We ready?
00:09:09Now we're good.
00:09:10All right.
00:09:11Let's play.
00:09:11Come on.
00:09:13Go back.
00:09:14I don't know how to go back.
00:09:16Play.
00:09:17Can you hit that for the back?
00:09:20Play.
00:09:24There we go.
00:09:26All right.
00:09:27Level one.
00:09:28We're going to read together out loud.
00:09:30I'm bringing the mic to somebody.
00:09:31Everyone should.
00:09:33Let's go.
00:09:33Be able to read.
00:09:35Come on.
00:09:36Be able to read this comfortably and easy.
00:09:58Both casual conversations are spoken at around this speed.
00:10:01So reading at this speed should be easy.
00:10:05Great job.
00:10:05Level three.
00:10:06We're on the way.
00:10:06We're on the way.
00:10:07Thank you for participating.
00:10:08You look so ready.
00:10:10Most people should be able to read at this speed.
00:10:12However, some people may start to struggle.
00:10:14The average person reads non-technical material.
00:10:16It's functional out of this speed.
00:10:17Give it up for her.
00:10:18Come on now.
00:10:19What?
00:10:20All right.
00:10:21Who wants to know?
00:10:21You ready?
00:10:22You ready?
00:10:24Most people should get past it when there's a problem.
00:10:26You may find yourself struggling.
00:10:27Keep going with some of the longer words.
00:10:28Give it up for them though.
00:10:39Come on now.
00:10:39Give it up.
00:10:40You at home.
00:10:41Y'all seen that.
00:10:42Hey.
00:10:42Now my point of this is I want to ask you a question.
00:10:45When's the last time you read with your children?
00:10:48When's the last time you read with anybody in your house?
00:10:50When's the last time you really looked at their stuff and said,
00:10:52you know what?
00:10:52Let me see what you got.
00:10:54How many of their teachers' names do you know?
00:10:56For real though.
00:10:57What are they really studying?
00:10:58And that's the point of that.
00:11:00We can read real quick.
00:11:01Read with them.
00:11:02Reading is very important.
00:11:04Now that the stuff happened yesterday, it makes it even more, I mean, of an alert.
00:11:09Of an alert.
00:11:10All right.
00:11:10Four good questions.
00:11:12You ready?
00:11:13Who?
00:11:15No, let's start with number one.
00:11:16Do you believe everything you think?
00:11:19Do you believe everything you think?
00:11:21Number two, who do you have the most thought-provoking conversations with?
00:11:30When you sit down, you're like, oh, you're taking me there.
00:11:34I love that.
00:11:35I love that.
00:11:36Who do you have the most thought-provoking conversations with?
00:11:39Number three, who do you have the most toxic conversations with?
00:11:49So, like, five of y'all sitting with them.
00:11:54That's cool.
00:11:55That's cool.
00:11:57Right next to me, walked in, S is arguing.
00:11:59Walked in arguing.
00:12:00It's hot.
00:12:01I ain't got my ticket yet.
00:12:04Talking about sitting down.
00:12:06We walked in arguing.
00:12:08That's why y'all split.
00:12:09I wish y'all could see the flip of this, y'all.
00:12:10They split.
00:12:11But anyway, getting back to this last thing.
00:12:13I want you to remember this.
00:12:14This is very, very important.
00:12:17Thoughts may be 100% true.
00:12:22Zero percent true are somewhere in the middle.
00:12:25Our thoughts do lie.
00:12:28And a lot of times, our thoughts tell one-sided stories.
00:12:32It's only one side of the fence.
00:12:33So, our thoughts do lie.
00:12:36Time.
00:12:38How much time?
00:12:39How much time?
00:12:41How much?
00:12:42The average person has 60,000 to 80,000 thoughts per day.
00:12:47The average person has 60,000 to 80,000 thoughts per day.
00:12:5180% of those thoughts lean towards the negative.
00:12:5595% are copy and pasted from the day before.
00:12:59Tell me something new you thought about today.
00:13:01And if that's not the case, let's move.
00:13:04Let's jump in that 5% and start changing your mind about stuff.
00:13:08Give yourself permission to change your mind.
00:13:11You allowed to change your mind?
00:13:12You don't got to stick to it?
00:13:14Flip.
00:13:15It's okay.
00:13:17Some of us are dying because of just that.
00:13:19You won't change your mind.
00:13:20You won't stop.
00:13:21You have to continually do it because you said you was going to do it.
00:13:24Hello.
00:13:25How are you?
00:13:29Is that fine?
00:13:30Fine, fine.
00:13:31All right.
00:13:32Negative thoughts visit the strong but stay with the weak.
00:13:37Negative thoughts visit the strong but stay with the weak.
00:13:41And I wasn't going to put that slide up here.
00:13:42I only use that for my elite athletes, but everybody need to hear that now.
00:13:46We all get them thoughts.
00:13:47We all think a little bit, ooh, ooh, ooh.
00:13:49But we got to get rid of that and start talking back to them thoughts.
00:13:52That's another thing we need to put on there.
00:13:54Talk back to them thoughts.
00:13:55When you go to McDonald's, how do you order your food?
00:13:58Welcome to McDonald's.
00:13:59Me help you?
00:14:00Me help you.
00:14:01Yeah, me help you.
00:14:02May I help you?
00:14:03Yes.
00:14:05Let me get a double cheeseburger, no onion, no pickle, large fry, and please, I need an orange
00:14:12drink, no ice.
00:14:15You see how I ordered that?
00:14:16Do the same thing with your thoughts.
00:14:18Do the same thing with your thoughts.
00:14:20You talk to them.
00:14:21You tell them what you want them to say.
00:14:23They're going to come because they come to everybody.
00:14:26They come to everybody.
00:14:27Everybody you see, who you love, who you think is the bomb, feel the same way.
00:14:32A little negative, Nancy, talk to them, too.
00:14:34A little negative, Nancy, talk to them, too.
00:14:40When the best meets the best, what's the difference?
00:14:44And the answer's a little bit.
00:14:46But what's your little bit?
00:14:48Huh?
00:14:48How you separate yourself?
00:14:50If somebody asks you about you, do you know you?
00:14:53What do you love to do?
00:14:55What do you want to do?
00:14:56Who are you?
00:14:57If I asked you to describe who you was and you couldn't be a parent, you couldn't be a
00:15:01teacher, you couldn't be someone else, who are you?
00:15:04Who are you?
00:15:05That's what we come here for.
00:15:07It ain't too late for nobody.
00:15:09No person sitting here watching on TV.
00:15:12It ain't too late for none of us.
00:15:14None of us.
00:15:14Start today.
00:15:16Start right now.
00:15:17Erase toxic people.
00:15:18Stop having toxic conversations.
00:15:21You know when that phone ring and they'd be like, bloop, and you go off before the conversation
00:15:24need to start?
00:15:25Don't pick it up.
00:15:26Oh my God.
00:15:27Don't pick the phone up.
00:15:34Stop.
00:15:36And that person who's calling you to dump, dump them.
00:15:40Dump them.
00:15:41Dump them.
00:15:42Dump them.
00:15:43The person that's calling you to dump, dump, dump them.
00:15:47Dump them.
00:15:48Dump them.
00:15:50Three minutes.

00:15:56I don't think so.
00:15:57Y'all want to hear it?

00:16:04I don't know if I told y'all that, but I do.
00:16:06And so I had to put something together for the kids so they'd kind of feel what I was talking
00:16:09about.
00:16:10And so they'd be looking at you like, so y'all ready?
00:16:14I don't like that energy.
00:16:15You got to sit up.

00:16:33I plan to start inside out and not outside in because the biggest enemy starts within.
00:16:39I pledge that your perception of me is no longer my reality.
00:16:43Now don't mistake my confidence for cockiness.
00:16:45I'm just not willing to accept that I'm an emotional wreck.
00:16:49I'm a miracle just looking for a place to happen.
00:16:51I will no longer be caught emotionally napping.
00:16:54I'm woke now.
00:16:55Yes, no longer sleep.
00:16:56My emotions will never again be sold for cheap.
00:17:00I pledge that a smile is just a smile away and to never let yesterday ruin.
00:17:05Come on.
00:17:07Today.
00:17:09I never leave a lesson without a blessing.
00:17:11So today I plan to emotionally stop stressing.
00:17:16That's my time, y'all.

00:17:44Real life.
00:17:47I don't know.
00:17:48Think about it.

00:17:59Give me a second.
00:18:00Don't let nobody rush you into no answer.
00:18:02That's how babies get made.
00:18:05That's how addictions start.
00:18:07They didn't rush you.
00:18:07Like, come on.
00:18:08Come on.
00:18:08Like, Uncle.

00:18:18You know, don't let the negative thoughts take over.
00:18:22Give it up for them, y'all.

00:18:39All the people listen to the buzzer.
00:18:41They tried to call the police on me.
00:18:43Let me go to this last screen for y'all.
00:18:44Here.
00:18:46It's all good, baby.
00:18:47Baby.
00:18:47It was all a dream.
00:18:50I used to reword a magazine.
00:18:51We can have some hood karaoke.
00:18:53Come on.
00:18:53Up in the limousine.
00:18:55Anybody want some mic?
00:18:55It's just on my wall.
00:18:56Every Saturday, rap attack.
00:18:58It's just on my wall.
00:18:58It's ok to feel.
00:19:00I let my tape top to my tape drop.
00:19:02Smokin' weed and bamboo, sippin' on private stock.
00:19:04Way back when I had the red and black lumberjack.
00:19:07There you go.
00:19:08Hit me up.
00:19:09Remember rappin' through.
00:19:10Da-ha, da-ha, we never thought the hip-hop would take it this far.
00:19:14Now I'm in the limelight cause I ride tight.
00:19:16Time to get paid, blow up like the world train.
00:19:19Born sinner, the opposite of a winner.
00:19:21Remember when I used to eat sardines for dinner.
00:19:24Peace to Ron G, Brucey B, Nick Capri.
00:19:26Suck master, sluts, love fun, star, ski.
00:19:29I'm blowin' up like you thought I would.

00:19:36And if you don't know, now you know, you know, you know.
00:19:40I will grab, keep me high.
00:19:44Show me your choice in the car.
00:19:47We saw the car.
00:19:49You have a heart, and I'll make the change.
00:19:53I'm sure you don't live hard.
00:19:56I'll make the punch.
00:19:57I made the change from a common thief.
00:20:00Talk close and personal with drop and leech.
00:20:02And I'm far from cheap.
00:20:03I smoke stuff with my peeps all day.
00:20:05Spread love, it's the Brooklyn way.
00:20:07The Moet and Alize keep me pissy.

00:20:10Now they write letters, cause they miss me.
00:20:12I never thought it could happen if rappin' stuff.
00:20:15I was too used to packin' eggs and stuff.
00:20:17Now honeys play me quotes like Butterplay Coat.
00:20:20From the Mississippi Dale to the East Coast.
00:20:23Condos and Queens.
00:20:24In dome for weeks.
00:20:25Soul-out seats to hear Biggie Small speak.
00:20:28Livin' life without fear.
00:20:29Puttin' five carrots in my baby girl ear.
00:20:32Lunches, brunches.
00:20:33Interviews by the fool.
00:20:35Considered a fool, cause I dropped out of high school.
00:20:37Both stereotypes of a black male misunderstood.
00:20:41And it's still all good.
00:20:44And if you don't know, now you don't know.
00:20:47I'm in the air, you can't.

00:21:1250 inch screen, money green, leather sofa.
00:21:14Got two rides in a limousine with a chauffeur.
00:21:16Long bill about 2G flat.
00:21:19No need to worry, my accountant handles that.
00:21:21And my whole crew is lounging.
00:21:23Celebrating every day, no more public housing.
00:21:26Thinking back for my one room shack.
00:21:28Now my mom pimps her hat with me on her back.
00:21:31And she loves to show me off, of course.
00:21:33Smiles every time my face is up in the store.
00:21:36We used to bust when the landlord dissed us.
00:21:38No heat, wonder why Christmas missed us.
00:21:41Birthdays was the worst days.
00:21:43Now we sip champagne, but we thirsty.
00:21:45Damn right, I like the life I live.
00:21:47Cause I wish my nigga is the positive and the song.

00:23:27I can hear sweat trickling there on your cheek.
00:23:29Your heart beats sound like sass rocks beat.
00:23:32Thundering, shaking the concrete.
00:23:34Maybe some stop when I pour the clock.
00:23:37Maybe it's cold.
00:23:38I fishin' her mad shot.
00:23:40Strap saw me in the trap.

00:23:47I burn, maybe burn like disco and burger.
00:23:50Burn slow like this for Diego.
00:23:52Feel more skins than Idaho potatoes.
00:23:55Nipple know.
00:23:56Delirical molesting is taking place.
00:23:58Bessin' with B.I.G.

00:28:11Oh, you love what you're going.
00:28:12Oh, you love what you're going.
00:28:13Oh, you love what you're going.
00:28:14Oh, you love what you're going.
00:28:15Oh, you love what you're going.
00:28:16Oh, you love what you're going.
00:28:17Oh, you love what you're going.
00:28:18Oh, you love what you're going.
00:28:19Oh, you love what you're going.
00:28:20Oh, you love what you're going.
00:28:21Oh, you love what you're going.
00:28:22Oh, you love what you're going.
00:28:23Oh, you love what you're going.
00:28:24Oh, you love what you're going.
00:28:25Oh, you love what you're going.
00:28:26Oh, you love what you're going.
00:28:27Oh, I just want you to know that you're the best you want.
00:28:36Oh, I don't know.
00:28:38Oh, I don't know.
00:28:42Oh, I just want you to know that you're the best you want.
00:28:51Don't want to sell full of my safe and rude, but you ain't looking at the world with you.
00:28:56Because you love me
00:28:57I'm sorry
00:28:58So you think about a chance
00:29:03You find yourself trying to do my dance
00:29:05Maybe because you love me
00:29:07So then we try
00:29:12Give it a slow down because you went to dance
00:29:15If we touch
00:29:17If we touch
00:29:19Then we locked eyes
00:29:22And I knew I wasn't there
00:29:24And I was on time
00:29:25I know that I'm carrying on

00:29:46Trying to be the best girlfriend you could be
00:29:50Still you sneak and look at me
00:29:52Girl, I love you

00:29:58Telling you a hot ass how it was
00:30:01And she's gon' love it
00:30:03Oh, yeah
00:30:05So then we try
00:30:08Give it a slow down because you went to
00:30:10She's gon' turn
00:30:12When you went after
00:30:12How fast we touch
00:30:13If we touch
00:30:15Then we locked eyes
00:30:18But I knew I wasn't there
00:30:20And I was on time
00:30:21And I was on time
00:30:21Yeah, that's home

00:34:22Lock boy, you got what I want.
00:34:26Won't you ever come and satisfy me?
00:34:28I'll be lovin' you like in the sea.

00:34:33Hot boy, baby, you got what I want.
00:34:38Won't you ever come and satisfy me?
00:34:40I'll be lovin' you like in the sea.
00:34:44We're the lesser chiefs, and the big chiefs, and the nickin' chiefs, and the big leagues,
00:34:48and the jaguars, and the flycars.
00:34:51Where you at?
00:34:53Ooh, ooh, yeah, yeah.
00:34:55We're the lesser chiefs, and the big leagues, and the big leagues,
00:34:58let it beat me, and the big leagues, and the fireball,
00:35:02and the big leagues.
00:35:03Don't eat grass.
00:35:04Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh.
00:35:11Yeah.
00:35:12Oh, yeah, yeah.
00:35:15Big girl.
00:35:17Oh, you think I am?
00:35:20Don't you know that he was my mate?
00:35:23What?
00:35:23I chose to let him know, so why do you apply?
00:35:26I don't care about him, I'm just looking at me like I'm hurt.
00:35:31And I'm the one who said I didn't want this to work.
00:35:35Don't you forget I had it first?
00:35:38He's such a leader, so they were me.
00:35:41He wasn't letting me know, but he didn't know.
00:35:44I need your chance.
00:35:46I've already met your man.
00:35:49You're a nerd, just now he's dealing with me.
00:35:52And I'm the other one who knows I'm in this.
00:35:57I think he's not the matter for you.
00:35:59I know you've been kids, do you know my life's back then?
00:36:04Do you know I'm not your husband, you're a man?
00:36:08I'm not thinking about him, but you're married him.
00:36:12Do you know my baby needs to know he needs to stay with me?
00:36:19He wasn't bad enough for me.
00:36:22And he taught you the truth, nothing I don't do about you.
00:36:28And maybe you could be more when he said I'm worth my baby.
00:36:33Don't sleep, you won't lie.
00:36:36Love's the reason why his love didn't count.
00:36:40And why we couldn't work it out.
00:36:42And why we couldn't work it out.
00:36:43Yeah.
00:36:43He was the man who knew me.
00:36:47He wasn't ready for me.
00:36:49He didn't know how this changed.
00:36:51If you're already man, you're a man, yeah.
00:36:54Don't watch us that he's been.
00:36:56Yeah.
00:36:57Nothing we're reading about him, yeah.
00:36:59And I said no choice.
00:37:01I think he's worth the man for you.
00:37:04Why are you thinking?
00:37:06Do you know I just have been?
00:37:08Do you know what I'm gonna do?
00:37:10Do you know a girlfriend?
00:37:12I'm gonna face it for him.
00:37:14Why you got me in?
00:37:16Do you know I made me meet?
00:37:18Do you really know he needs to stay?
00:37:22Maybe he was mad enough for me?
00:37:25Why are you thinking?
00:37:27Do you know I just have been a bed?
00:37:30Do you know I'm gonna do you know I'm gonna do you?
00:37:32Do you know I'm gonna do you?
00:37:34I'm gonna take his body
00:37:36Fuck you Mary
00:37:38You know my baby
00:37:40Do you know I'm gonna do you?
00:37:42Do you know I'm gonna go into bed?
00:37:44Did you know I'm gonna do you?
00:37:46He was mad enough for me
00:37:50Hey
00:37:52Hey
00:37:54Hey
00:44:18Hey,
00:44:20Hey, y'all.
00:44:22Hey, y'all.
00:44:24Hey, y'all.
00:44:26Hey, y'all.
00:44:28Hey, y'all.
00:44:30Turn me up.
00:44:32Hello.
00:44:34Yo.
00:44:36Hey, you're ready.
00:44:38Hey, you're ready to feel.
00:44:40You're ready to feel and you're gonna say, that's how you heal.
00:44:42Y'all ready?
00:44:43I'm coming over there.
00:44:44It's okay to feel, a little louder.
00:44:46It's okay to feel, that's how you heal.
00:44:50So check this out.
00:44:51About to have some very, very important people come on this stage.
00:44:54But first, we have to introduce Mr. Oakland Jones.
00:44:58He's an entertainment editor for Essence Magazine.
00:45:01And he's a loco.
00:45:02He's from here.
00:45:02Give it up for him, y'all.
00:45:03Give it up for him.
00:45:04Come on.
00:45:07How y'all doing today?
00:45:10I want to welcome everybody to the In His Own Man Experience.
00:45:13After having an amazing time, I have one request.
00:45:16We're going to be live streaming all day.
00:45:17So could y'all try not to block the cameras so everybody in the world can see it as well as y'all, too?
00:45:22So as previously stated, my name is Oakland Jones.
00:45:26I'm an entertainment editor here at Essence.
00:45:28And today, we're going to talk about an amazing life-changing experience.
00:45:32And that's how to recognize opportunity.
00:45:35Specifically, we're going to recognize opportunities and how to make smart financial decisions
00:45:39to set you, your family, your circle for not just immediate success, but success lifetime.
00:45:45So here to speak with that with me, I have sports manager and entrepreneur, Red Rushing,
00:45:51Evander Wise CEO, Jeff Osuji, and actor, rapper, and filmmaker, Malcolm Mays.
00:45:57I want y'all to give it up for these gentlemen.
00:45:58All right, gentlemen.
00:46:25So for my first question, it's actually for all of you.
00:46:28We hear a lot of people say, if I had this amount of money, I could triple it and do all
00:46:33this with money and everything.
00:46:34But sometimes people fail to realize that it takes a lot of work and ethic, you know,
00:46:39for the long-term investments.
00:46:41So I want to start by asking each of you, what was the first thing that got you interested
00:46:45in learning more about investing?
00:46:47I'm going to talk to you first, Jeff.
00:46:48One, two.
00:46:50How's everybody doing?
00:46:51Y'all good?
00:46:52Can y'all hear me?
00:46:53I would say the first thing that got me super interested in investments was seeing the success
00:46:58of Damien John and FUBU and how much money he made.
00:47:01And then also seeing how people were making a lot of money off of real estate just by owning
00:47:06your home and being able to eliminate your rent, how that can have a huge impact on your
00:47:11financial well-being.
00:47:14Red, what you got, man?
00:47:15How y'all doing?
00:47:19I think my thing was basically just hanging out with different athletes, you know, athletes
00:47:26I was working with and just being in that space and just seeing how, you know, everybody
00:47:34just focused on telling them they need to invest, they need to do this, athletes lose their money
00:47:39and do this.
00:47:40So just being in the background, just thinking about, you know, what I can do and what I need
00:47:45to do, you know, in preparation for my family.
00:47:48I think that's what really started me for thinking about investing.
00:47:53All right, Malcolm, I'll buy two, brother.
00:47:54Can y'all hear us?
00:47:59Is this too low?
00:48:00Y'all can hear us?
00:48:02All right.
00:48:04What got me first started thinking about investing was a black woman.
00:48:09Ironically, we're here at Essence, and my mother, she had Essence magazine delivered to the house
00:48:14quite frequently, as I'm sure all of our mothers did at one point.
00:48:18That shit just kept coming.
00:48:19You didn't want it to keep coming, and it just kept.
00:48:21And she had Oprah on the front of her cover, and I think she used that as her true north,
00:48:26as a woman of color who was interested in owning her narrative, who was interested in being
00:48:32beyond our current situation, and she saw me as a conduit for that.
00:48:36So a black woman poured independence into me, poured freedom into me, and the vehicle for
00:48:40that was always investments.
00:48:43That's dope, man.
00:48:45So Jeff, last year you were one of the recipients of the Google Startups Black Founders Fund.
00:48:50Oh, congratulations, my brother.
00:48:52Hold up now.
00:48:53That's big, y'all.
00:48:55Congratulations.
00:48:56Congrats on that, brother.
00:48:58So as a business owner, tell people how do you find out about opportunities like that
00:49:02and where they can search that out?
00:49:04You know what?
00:49:04Everything's available on the internet, right?
00:49:06And as a people that are often under-resourced, they're successes about your resourcefulness.
00:49:11What I did was I actually was able to bring on a virtual assistant that would just search
00:49:15for opportunities.
00:49:16But on top of that, I've been networking.
00:49:18People don't know we applied three times for that.
00:49:21We also, in the Techstars Accelerator, we applied three times for that.
00:49:24So we showed up.
00:49:25We were consistent.
00:49:26But I also had a team that was supportive in making sure that we were applying, that
00:49:30we were beating the business metrics that they required.
00:49:32Because when we first applied, we weren't there.
00:49:35So having the right team on place is definitely open.
00:49:38Now, Red, this question's for you, my brother.
00:49:41I know you got your start in professional sports and then went into sports management.
00:49:45Then you got your own fitness brand.
00:49:47We'll wait no more.
00:49:48So what are some things you consider deciding on what type of investments you want to make
00:49:52next?
00:49:55We all know investing is tricky.
00:49:57You know, it's a risk.
00:49:58It's a risk.
00:49:59But with me, as far as taking the jump to fitness, which coming up, I hate it.
00:50:06In college, I hate working out.
00:50:09My strength and conditioning coach, he hit me.
00:50:11He said, you're the last person I would have ever thought to have a fitness brand.
00:50:15Because I hated going to the gym and everything.
00:50:17But it became a passion.
00:50:19And I think that word is real important when you, you know, starting an investment and different
00:50:26things like that.
00:50:27You want to find something you're passionate in.
00:50:29Because, you know, some investments are long term.
00:50:32They don't, you know, you don't reap the rewards immediately.
00:50:36So it's something you got to do over time.
00:50:38So you want to find something that you're passionate in that, you know, regardless of how things
00:50:43look, that passion is going to keep you going.
00:50:46Keep you, you know, keep the wheels turning.
00:50:48And, you know, I think that's something I found with Wait No More is a passion for me.
00:50:52It's a passion for helping people.
00:50:54It's a passion for wanting to push my culture, wanting to push my community to, you know, get
00:51:00active and just live a healthier lifestyle.
00:51:05So Malcolm, first of all, I know everybody loved watching you in Raising Canaan and in
00:51:09Snowfall.
00:51:11You know.
00:51:11Guilty.
00:51:12So yeah, clap it up.
00:51:13But you're also a filmmaker and a musician, too.
00:51:16So I want you to talk to us a little bit about the importance of diversifying your income.
00:51:20He was about to play the song.
00:51:21I don't know why he did that.
00:51:23It's too late, niggas.
00:51:24Let's do it later.
00:51:26You going to play it while we up here?
00:51:27That's crazy.
00:51:29Wait until after, bro.
00:51:31So talk to me a little about the importance of diversifying your income streams and investment
00:51:35portfolio.
00:51:38I think it's important to simplify terms like diversification.
00:51:42So I'll say this.
00:51:43How many of us know what diversification is?
00:51:46And it's okay if you don't, because I didn't.
00:51:48How many of you know what a portfolio is?
00:51:51All right.
00:51:52So basically all this shit is just really complicated.
00:51:54White people talk to tell you, don't fuck up.
00:51:58How do I not fuck up?
00:52:00How do I put my eggs in different baskets so if one egg breaks, my other eggs is safe?
00:52:05It's very simple.
00:52:06So right now there's a writer's strike in Hollywood.
00:52:09Maybe some of you are aware of.
00:52:10Which means we can't act, we can't write, we can't direct, we can't do shit.
00:52:13Luckily, I have a real estate investment trust, which is building homes in, you know, the
00:52:19Hollywood Hills.
00:52:19Like me and my brothers got together, we got a syndicate.
00:52:21Me and my niggas, we bought houses, we flip them for a higher price.
00:52:24We take the delta, reinvest, do it again.
00:52:26We got, I have a fintech company I'm invested in, which you do startups so you know how big
00:52:30that is.
00:52:31So I'm invested in that.
00:52:33Right now I got a music project out with Lil Baby called Not Luck.
00:52:36Y'all need to go download that right now.
00:52:38Not Luck.
00:52:39Me, Lil Baby.
00:52:40It's going crazy.
00:52:41I got an album out called Street Journal.
00:52:42I've been nominated for a Grammy and all of this may sound like people telling you you
00:52:46doing too much, but I don't care if you both fix cars, fix radiators, fix houses, whatever
00:52:51you do, if something go cold, you got to be able to still stay hot.
00:52:56You know what I'm saying?
00:52:57And women know this best and we at Essence, so I'm going to speak the truth.
00:53:00Women know if you got one and he acting up, you got what?
00:53:04All right.
00:53:05That's what diversification is and that's why it's important.
00:53:08In case one man ain't feeding you, the other one will.
00:53:11That's it.
00:53:12So this question is for all of you gentlemen.
00:53:18I want to know what are some lessons that you had to learn the hard way to help you
00:53:22make better investment decisions in your future?
00:53:24I can start you, Jeff.
00:53:26Some great lessons that I learned.
00:53:28Number one, the biggest investment that you can do is invest in yourself.
00:53:32I want people to know that, so make sure your health is right.
00:53:35Also, if you have a business, make sure you reinvest in your profits.
00:53:38One of the biggest lessons that I learned is that when you start a business, you don't
00:53:41want to seek to compete.
00:53:42You want to seek to win.
00:53:44So work in a business where you have an unfair competitive advantage, right?
00:53:47It's great to have competitors, but it's great to dominate an industry.
00:53:50So when I talk about the biggest lesson I learned, I quit my job right before the pandemic and
00:53:56focused on a vineyard, which is an event-based company, right?
00:53:59And I didn't have anything else to lean back on.
00:54:03And so what I learned was the importance of pivoting.
00:54:06Ticket sales went down to zero after it was booming.
00:54:08And I said, you know what?
00:54:09My friends who've been partying at clubs are getting older.
00:54:12You know what they're doing now?
00:54:13They're buying homes.
00:54:14The real estate market was booming.
00:54:15It's one of those markets that doesn't have that elasticity, which means that when demand
00:54:19goes down, the price goes up.
00:54:21People are always going to be in health care and real estate.
00:54:23So I actually got a realtor degree, helped over 40 friends and family get their first
00:54:27homes.
00:54:28I was able to pivot to get money to support and pour back into a vineyard, all right?
00:54:33And so it wasn't until I started booming as a real estate agent, became a top 10% realtor,
00:54:38I was able to focus on a vineyard and we won the Mountain Dew Pitch Competition.
00:54:42And that gave us more of the funds that we needed to help grow the business and build
00:54:45out the software.
00:54:46So I would say be ready to pivot, for sure.
00:54:50Red, same question, my brother.
00:54:53I'm going to piggyback off of him and say, invest in yourself.
00:54:57You know, you have to invest in yourself and that's what we do with my company as far
00:55:01as, you know, the health and wellness.
00:55:03We have to take care of ourselves.
00:55:05We have to focus on our health.
00:55:07And the thing about fitness, it makes you feel better about yourself.
00:55:12In the boardroom, that makes you a better person at home.
00:55:14That makes you a better person at work.
00:55:16And, um, and also I think having a niche, having a niche.
00:55:22You need a niche in whatever you're doing, you know, starting a business or whatever.
00:55:28Like mine was, I have an amazing wife that had my back.
00:55:32You know, she has a huge following and stuff.
00:55:35So it was easy for me.
00:55:37It was easy that we already had a platform.
00:55:41We already had a base of people to speak to.
00:55:44And once you have that, now all of a sudden you just need a good product.
00:55:49You need a good product or you need a good service.
00:55:52And, you know, that's what we do with Wait No More.
00:55:54And so I just think investing in yourself, you know, first.
00:55:58And then just finding that niche.
00:56:00Finding that niche.
00:56:01And I think you'll be all right.
00:56:04All right, Malcolm.
00:56:04Same question, my brother.
00:56:06What was the hardest lesson I had to learn in investing or just in life?
00:56:10Investing, you know, you could do life too as well.
00:56:11It's the same thing.
00:56:12So I think the hardest lesson that I learned was pain tolerance.
00:56:21Was learning that just because you can take it don't mean you should take it.
00:56:25You feel what I'm saying?
00:56:26Like just because we come from, I come from blue-collar people.
00:56:29I don't know if anybody else does.
00:56:31But if you come from blue-collar people, you mistake that hustling and putting your nose to the grindstone
00:56:36and hitting the ground running and working crazy hours is how you make this money and how you get rich.
00:56:41And I had to learn that that's actually the counterintuitive thing to making money.
00:56:48With investments, you need to be as lazy as fucking possible.
00:56:52That means the more of your time that it takes versus the amount of labor that it takes for you to get that dollar,
00:56:58the more you should shy away from it because you already laboring to get the capital, which is your initial money.
00:57:03So the money you're about to invest, that's what you labor for.
00:57:06That's what you put your nose to the grindstone for.
00:57:08But I had to learn that once you earn that money with your sweat, your tears, and your time, it has to now get legs.
00:57:14It has to now go work for you and get back your time.
00:57:17And if it's not doing that, you're doing yourself a disservice because you'll sit there.
00:57:21I have a high income, so people think, oh, Malcolm, you rich.
00:57:23I'm like, no, I'm not because high income means I got to go get up and go to work every day.
00:57:28And if I die, what's there for my family?
00:57:31What's there for my legacy?
00:57:32What's there for my friends?
00:57:32What's there for my niggas that I take care of in a pen?
00:57:35How they going to eat if I'm still ripping and running?
00:57:38What if somebody take me out of here?
00:57:39God forbid.
00:57:41Your money will long live, if it's properly invested, will long outlive you.
00:57:47It will be an optimum premium on all of your time, your labor, and your sweat.
00:57:51So for me, the hardest lesson was learning that you can't just outwork this beast.
00:57:55This system ain't set up for us.
00:57:56You ain't going to outrun it.
00:57:58But your money can.
00:57:59So that was my hardest lesson is that hard work ain't it.
00:58:02You got to hard work and then compound your investment with that hard work and capital.
00:58:06Passive income, y'all, passive income.
00:58:09And then, Malcolm, I'm going to start with you on this last one, man.
00:58:12For anyone in this room right now that's serious about starting on this journey,
00:58:16what's the first step do you think they should take when they want to start their investing journey?
00:58:23Well, it's different for everybody.
00:58:24But I'll say most of us got real lives.
00:58:26And everybody online be telling you, take your money and then just go buy a house and then you'll get your money back.
00:58:31Like, bro, that shit.
00:58:33Y'all got bills.
00:58:34My cousin just went to jail.
00:58:36My mama got health bills.
00:58:37How am I supposed to save up enough money?
00:58:39So what I would say is your first thing I would say for investment is get yourself a safety net first so that anything else after that, you can invest.
00:58:47But get safe.
00:58:48Get secure.
00:58:49Get foundational.
00:58:50Establish what's important.
00:58:51Establish what you can't go without.
00:58:53Take care of that and then go start playing these investment games.
00:58:56But don't do it without it because you're going to be stressed out.
00:58:58We black.
00:58:59We don't get that luxury.
00:59:00So that's me.
00:59:01That's what I would say.
00:59:02All right, Ray, what you got, my brother?
00:59:04I like that.
00:59:05I think the security part of it, you know, finding being able to be secure so you're able to go and invest.
00:59:12And once you get to that point, my thing is, and I solely stand on it, like find that niche.
00:59:18Find that niche that you have where you can invest, work hard.
00:59:22It's not boring to you.
00:59:23You know, a lot of people, we're stuck in jobs that's boring that we don't want to do.
00:59:28We don't want to go to work.
00:59:31We don't want to do this.
00:59:32But just find something.
00:59:34Find a niche that's something you enjoy.
00:59:36Because if it's not turning over as much or it's not turning over as fast as you think or as fast as you feel it should, you have that passion for it.
00:59:45You have that passion for it so you're not so easy to give up.
00:59:49Because investing don't happen, all investments don't happen overnight, regardless of what you read, regardless of what you hear.
00:59:56Yes, it's some overnight stories or whatever, but majority of investing, it don't happen overnight.
01:00:01So find that niche, and like my bro said, man, find that safety net.
01:00:06All right, Jeff?
01:00:07Man, I got to piggyback because whatever you love doing that you will do for free, turn that into a side hustle, all right?
01:00:13I love hosting parties.
01:00:14I did it in high school and college, so I started hosting parties and turned it into a business.
01:00:18From there, we started a ticketing company.
01:00:20I own a lounge as well, and we vertically integrated.
01:00:22But you're going to become good at it.
01:00:24It's been nights where I lost $5,000 of a party.
01:00:27It's been nights I lost $10,000, but it's been nights I made more.
01:00:30Each time, I treated with the same because I loved what I was doing.
01:00:33So the first thing I would say is find something that you love doing and figure out how you can monetize that, right?
01:00:38I always had a 9 to 5, but then I always had my 5 to 9, which fueled my ability after 10 years finally to quit my job.
01:00:44I also invested in an IRA, $200 a month.
01:00:48Over 10 years, it gave me enough money to give me enough money to pay my rent and comfortably leave, right?
01:00:54So I would just say whatever you love doing, pour your heart into it and figure out how you can monetize it.
01:00:59Read YouTube, Google.
01:01:00We got so much information on the Internet to figure out how to sell whatever you're good at.
01:01:06All right.
01:01:07I think we got time for a couple questions, too.
01:01:09You know, if anybody on the crowd has any questions for the gentleman up here.
01:01:12Anybody want to ask a question?
01:01:15Don't be shy now.
01:01:16We got like five minutes.
01:01:17Come on now.
01:01:18Let's do it.
01:01:20The floor is yours.
01:01:22No?
01:01:24All right.
01:01:24Well.
01:01:25No, don't do that.
01:01:26No, somebody got a question.
01:01:28Go ahead and ask that.
01:01:29Go ahead.
01:01:29Go ahead.
01:01:29For someone who's looking to build investments, but is working in the cash business, let's say entertainment, making a lot of money, and then you need to invest it, but you also need to live off of it.
01:01:51What do you guys recommend?
01:01:54Discipline.
01:01:54Don't be spending money on females and drugs.
01:01:57Cut expenses.
01:01:58Until you can afford it.
01:02:01Cut expenses, man.
01:02:02What are you spending money on that you cannot?
01:02:04I ended up buying a car because I was spending too much money on Uber after eight years.
01:02:07I'm like, let me just cut some costs.
01:02:08Save it $800 a month now.
01:02:10So the biggest way to make more money is to cut expenses.
01:02:14Go ahead.
01:02:15Hi, thank you for joining.
01:02:24And so I had a question.
01:02:26I wanted to follow up on this statement that you made.
01:02:29So you said, it's a really powerful quote.
01:02:31You said, you know, when things go cold, you need to have something to keep you hot.
01:02:35And so I understand, you know, we're talking about how investment is risky and you don't know.
01:02:42You might lose money.
01:02:43What is the best way to sort of find that stable thing while pouring yourself into the passion project as well?
01:02:49Like, how do you balance in that?
01:02:50Well, once again, it comes down to your expenses.
01:02:52But staying hot, like, we got to look at money like it's not static no more.
01:02:55Money's not a dollar.
01:02:56Money don't stay in your pocket.
01:02:57It don't stay in your bank.
01:02:59Money has velocity.
01:02:59It has motion.
01:03:00And so you're not playing a game of, like, one-to-one.
01:03:04You're constantly in motion.
01:03:05It's a bicycle.
01:03:06So if your money is not having no motion, it's an L, period.
01:03:10If your money just sitting there, it's an L.
01:03:12It doesn't mean you have to go get 100% return or your cousin got a business idea and you need to put your life savings into that.
01:03:18But there are CDs or certificates of deposit.
01:03:22There are T-bills, government bonds, where you can invest in a government that takes all your tax money and does bullshit with it.
01:03:28They can give you a return that is a safe return, 5%, 6%, especially really high right now, where your money just sits there like it would in a bank that you wouldn't touch anyway because you're scary, and you're going to make more money on it.
01:03:39That doesn't matter if it's $10, $100, $100,000.
01:03:41There are plenty of safe securities, funny enough is what they're called, stocks with dividends.
01:03:48Or if there's a cash-to-hand business in your local neighborhood, like we had the candy lady in my neighborhood, if I had $1,000, I would have invested in my candy lady because she always had a return.
01:03:58Anything of that nature where you know people are going to do it for real, for real, it's solid, it's secure, take your little bit of money and go do that and don't touch it because that's how you're going to get motion.
01:04:07That's my answer.
01:04:08And research, research, like he said earlier, like there's so many ways that you can research and study and, you know, you want to be real sharp on whatever you're investing in and, you know, and able to make your money work for you.
01:04:25You know, find something that you can, you know, that you can kind of bet on.
01:04:30Like I'm willing to bet on this.
01:04:31I'm willing to take this chance.
01:04:33But do the research.
01:04:35Learn, learn, learn, and just, you know.
01:04:39What are products that you're using right now that you can't live without, whether it's your Nike shoes, whether it's an LVMH purse?
01:04:44I would say invest $100, $200 in those stocks.
01:04:48But also I'm going to give you guys a website, startengine.com.
01:04:52For as little as $250, you can invest in multiple startups.
01:04:56It's also a way if you have an idea that you can have your friends invest in a startup that you're going to start.
01:05:01So we just did a campaign early this year, raised over $200,000 because venture capital money is down.
01:05:07But on Start Engine, we were able to raise money from our community.
01:05:10And you guys can also invest in different startups.
01:05:12So if you see something you like, check it out.
01:05:14I'm glad you said that.
01:05:15If you are under the age of 25 and you got a dream, go risk it all right now.
01:05:20You'll bounce back.
01:05:20You'll be fine.
01:05:22Do it right now.
01:05:23If you are north of 25 and you don't give a fuck, go risk it all right now.
01:05:28Unless you got kids or you got bills.
01:05:31But if you have bills and kids and you are north of 25, security, information, collaboration, these things, panels, YouTube videos,
01:05:40those are going to be your friends as you go along your investment journey to inform you what you should and should not be doing.
01:05:45But if it don't feel right, don't do it, bro, because you're going to be mad at your wife and you're going to be mad at your husband that you did something they told you not to do.
01:05:51So you have to be fully confident, win, lose, or draw, whether it wins or it loses, that you did something important with your money.
01:05:57So be researched and all that.
01:06:00All right.
01:06:00All right.
01:06:01We got one more question, fellas.
01:06:03Right now, the market is high on real estate.
01:06:06But right now, most houses you got now, a lot of families cannot afford homes.
01:06:11I can't hear you, brother.
01:06:12Get that right to his mouth.
01:06:13Go ahead, Ken.
01:06:13Rental properties is hot right now.
01:06:15A lot of people can't afford homes.
01:06:17So they're getting into that more than anything.
01:06:20So buying apartments, homes, stuff like that, investing that is more marketed right now.
01:06:25Well, it's tough because the interest rate is whooping everybody ass.
01:06:30Excuse me for cussing.
01:06:31But the interest rate is crazy right now.
01:06:32So what that means is borrowing money is not smart right now.
01:06:35If you do not have, like, it's simple math, right?
01:06:38Like, if you can't get, if it says I'm going to make 10% return on this property, like all the other houses on the block say that you're going to make 10% retire, and then you only got a 7% interest rate or higher, bro, you can't do that.
01:06:51It's not worth the effort.
01:06:52But I disagree as a realtor, though, because I do want to say it's a couple ways to make money on the property, right?
01:06:57So you can make it over appreciation over a long period of time.
01:07:00You can't always go for the quick flip.
01:07:02So I say if you're trying to make it quick in a couple years, no.
01:07:05But if you're cool with waiting, and a little estate is a long man's game, right?
01:07:09It's a long women's game.
01:07:10You got to wait.
01:07:11Appreciation over time, saving money on taxes, those are additional ways.
01:07:15Also rental income, and rent's raised in every month.
01:07:18So, no, if you need the money back within a year or two, don't do it.
01:07:21Don't do it.
01:07:22However, if you're thinking long term, which you should be, if you don't have a property, you can get it at 3.5% with the FHA loan and eliminate your rent.
01:07:31It's still a good time because you can always refinance when the rates go back down, right?
01:07:36That was just very hard to get a property.
01:07:37Okay.
01:07:37I'm not going to disagree with my brother, but we got to add information, right?
01:07:41That can be predatory because you got PMI, there's a lot that comes with that FHA loan.
01:07:46You're thinking you're getting it at a lower percentage, and a lot of our grandparents is losing their house because of that.
01:07:50So I just got to make sure.
01:07:52What he's telling you to do is if you are cash liquid, if you have enough to sustain problems and trouble, because your shit will break, and it will break you.
01:08:00So only do what he do if you're responsible and disciplined.
01:08:03If you are not.
01:08:05And my bad.
01:08:05I mean, I didn't disagree.
01:08:06I mean, I want to add some more information.
01:08:08So you're 100% right, brother.
01:08:09We can disagree.
01:08:09We're black.
01:08:10We love each other.
01:08:11But I still say don't wait to buy real estate.
01:08:14Buy real estate and wait.
01:08:15But only because of my personal experience.
01:08:18I suggest you have six months of expenses saved up.
01:08:22To this point, liquidity is so important.
01:08:24But, you know, you got to realize a lot of government now is giving you finance to get into the property.
01:08:29Correct.
01:08:30So if you can get into finance to get your property, then that cuts a lot of your costs.
01:08:34Correct.
01:08:35Correct.
01:08:36Because that's what I'm into.
01:08:37I got a lot of property that government helped me to get into that now I just sit back, make sure everything's wrong.
01:08:44Amen.
01:08:44Amen, King.
01:08:45Yeah.
01:08:46If you have the right realtor, they can negotiate credits, right?
01:08:49They can negotiate on your behalf.
01:08:49They can negotiate the price down and also for that buyer to pay some of your interest.
01:08:54So there's different things you can negotiate.
01:08:57All right, fellas.
01:08:58Malcolm, Red, Jeff.
01:08:59Thank you again for being here today, people.
