00:00We got the official word that Jim Schwartz was going to hand in the resignation,
00:05which didn't come as too much of a surprise.
00:07But with that news kind of finalized now, where does it land for you?
00:12I mean, I would say it's what I expected.
00:14I think it's what the Browns probably expected.
00:17And I'm assuming very much that Todd Munkin, as soon as he got announced,
00:21was already working on who his DC might be.
00:24Like, it's one of those things.
00:25I'm going to do the work.
00:27And if Jim Schwartz comes back, great.
00:28But odds were telling you he was not going to come back.
00:32I mean, I think at this point for Jim Schwartz, 59, this might have been his last shot at being a head coach.
00:38He felt like he was strong in the position to do it.
00:41Half the team defense really loved him.
00:43They respected him a lot.
00:44He didn't get the job.
00:45I wouldn't stick around either.
00:46And I know people, oh, he's under contract.
00:49That's never stopped anybody ever.
00:51You know, like, they will, obviously he resigned.
00:55You know, I don't think the Browns, I think it'd just be bad PR on the Browns side.
00:58The things to really kind of hold things up.
01:00It sounds like he's just going to take the year off because all the other jobs are pretty much, you know, scooped up.
01:05But it was no shock.
01:06And I think Todd Munkin, really no shock.
01:08And it's probably better for Todd Munkin.
01:10Clean it out.
01:10This is Todd Munkin's team now.
01:12And everybody can kind of move forward.
01:14So what is still the most interesting element, I think at least, of Schwartz moving on, Matt, is what it means for Miles Garrett.
01:24And it's, but I guess the question, and this is something that Joe and I keep debating, so I want to get your thoughts on it, is I would be okay with Cleveland moving on from Miles Garrett.
01:35It's not easier to say for me, right?
01:37It's not my franchise.
01:39It's not, oh, maybe the best player or one of the best players, I should say, in the history of the Browns, right?
01:44Where would you land on the idea of Cleveland willingly or acquiescing if it was a trade request from the reigning now defensive player of the year?
01:53I said they should have traded him when he asked for the trade request.
01:57Literally, it was a year ago yesterday or a year ago Wednesday.
02:01He asked for it.
02:02And I said they should have traded him then.
02:05This is the fallout from Deshaun Watson.
02:07It was going to take you three years, probably four, and really five to dig out of this hole.
02:15Miles Garrett's not getting any younger.
02:17He is in the prime of his career.
02:18And I know he, you know, came back and they signed that, he signed that long-term extension and highest paid defensive player, non-quarterback in NFL history and all that.
02:28But I think there's going to be a point that it doesn't matter.
02:32I argue with so many people about this, guys, when he first made the request and they go, well, you know, they'll pay him.
02:39And I go, look at Saquon Barkley.
02:41Saquon Barkley left a destitute franchise and in his first year won a Super Bowl.
02:46All these other star players are going to look around and go, yeah, the money's not worth it.
02:52To waste my career, you're already going to make a ton of money.
02:55It doesn't matter where you go.
02:57You might as well sacrifice some of that and go win a championship.
03:00Like, I am legitimately floored that Miles signed that extension and came back to the Browns and the Browns didn't trade him.
03:07I'd have done it last year.
03:08Now, that being said, yes, he has single-handedly really won games for the Browns, which is crazy to say as a defensive player.
03:15That's how good he is, and it would rock the franchise.
03:18The fan base would be so upset, but I think there's a lot of merit to thinking about it because if you'd have done it, you had the extra draft ammo, you could do the rebuild right, trying to keep him around.
03:28The Browns, he honestly might not be here by the time the Browns are relevant just because he might be retired at that point by the Browns finally turning it around.
03:38That's a great point, Matt.
03:39You brought up Deshaun Watson.
03:42Every time I look on social media, he's in another country vacationing.
03:47Is he coming back, and is Shador Sanders, in fact, the guy for this organization, at least in 2026?
03:55I expect Watson back just from a money standpoint.
03:58There's really no incentive for them to cut him again.
04:01They have to eat the cap space.
04:02They'll have to do it again when they kind of re-roll the money back over and all that.
04:06But I do expect Shador Sanders to be number one into the offseason.
04:10I don't think the Browns are going to draft a quarterback.
04:13I don't think they're going to go the Mack Jones, Kirk Cousins type of route.
04:18I think Todd Munkin partly was brought in here to try to develop Shador Sanders.
04:22Now, I'm extremely skeptical that that's going to happen, but I'm fine with him starting the season or starting the offseason as the number one.
04:30And then, much as I don't want to say it, if it goes bad, then you just turn it over to Deshaun Watson and see what he's got left in the tank.
04:38Nobody expects the Browns to be able to compete very much next year anyway.
04:41So I'd roll with Shador.
04:43You still have Dylan Gabriel.
04:44I know people are trying to pin that on Kevin Stefanski.
04:47He's not here, so maybe Gabriel won't be here.
04:49I don't know.
04:50But yeah, I totally expect Deshaun Watson to be here.
04:53But I do think Shador Sanders should be at least the number one quarterback entering the offseason.
