00:00It is Friday, it's 5.52pm and it is the end of the first week with my new clients.
00:11Alistair and Margot Hartnell.
00:14They say that coming here is the last roll of the dice for them.
00:17They had been on the cusp of getting a divorce.
00:20Walk forward. Turn right. Turn right. Turn left.
00:24No, no, wait. No, sorry. That's my...
00:27For God's sake, Alistair!
00:29Love has been replaced by hostility.
00:32You're useless at this! That's enough!
00:34Sorry, darling.
00:35All trust has gone.
00:36For sake!
00:37Sorry. Sorry!
00:38It's okay. It's okay.
00:39Compounded by the fact that they seem unable to communicate in a meaningful and a reciprocal way.
00:46I feel unheard when I talk to you about how I'm feeling.
00:52Well, often when you do want to talk, I've got work on my mind and that's important too.
01:02So it's just a case of bad timing, that's all.
01:05Their marriage doesn't make sense to them anymore.
01:08Over the course of the coming weeks, I'd like to see if we can retrace the steps that led to this situation.
01:15See if we can work out how they got here.
01:17Next we have Luke and Stacey Warbur.
01:21I believe the fault lines don't run as deep with them.
01:24I'm grateful for how patient you are.
01:27And that you're here with me now, doing this.
01:30Because I know I'm not giving you what you need.
01:35That's so sweet, bro.
01:37On the surface, they have a loving marriage.
01:40But now can we try taking each other's hands, please?
01:45And maintaining that same eye contact.
01:48By their own admission, there are significant intimacy issues.
01:51Why can't you do this?
01:53Uh...
01:55I'm sorry.
01:57I'm sorry, sorry. Could I take five?
01:59It's okay.
02:00Of course.
02:01It's okay, Luke.
02:04Take your time.
02:05I mean...
02:07It's okay.
02:08It's all part of the process.
02:10It's Friday, it's the beginning of the weekend now.
02:13But Monday will be a big day.
02:15I have exciting plans.
02:17I think that there could be a real breakthrough.
02:23Hello.
02:24Darling.
02:26Wine's good.
02:29This looks nice, doesn't it?
02:30Yeah.
02:31Hi, everyone.
02:32Hi.
02:33I just wanted to say thank you very much for all your hard work
02:37and your commitment this week.
02:39You should be very proud of yourselves.
02:41There's more for us to do next week.
02:44But for now, enjoy your evening.
02:49Right, bon appetit.
02:51Cheers, everyone.
02:52Cheers.
02:55Cheers.
02:56Cheers.
02:57Wow.
02:58I just feel like every single thing I say is wrong.
03:08Every word, every utterance.
03:10She pounces on it like a wild animal.
03:13I just feel like every single thing I say is wrong.
03:17I just feel like every single thing I say is wrong.
03:23Every word, every utterance.
03:25She pounces on it like a wild animal.
03:28Yeah, she certainly has a way with her words, your missus.
03:33I thought you'd never ask.
03:36It's only duty-free.
03:40That's Kira's stuff.
03:42Can't still be swimming, can she?
03:47That's Kira's stuff.
04:17That's Kira's stuff.
04:46my ex wanted me to try that kind of thing couples therapy not my cup of tea you don't think it
04:57could be good for a relationship opening up more and sharing with each other nah ah crime scene
05:05inspector um i don't think you should wear that to the crime scene why not because it's got i
05:13heart saint murray on the front of it still haven't gotten your clothes back then i must have left 50
05:24messages for solomon this is the only shirt he didn't take but i've got a mate from the met to
05:28call in a favor and i've got him to triangulate his phone for me yeah that's a very good use of
05:33their resources hey listen he stole from me and that is a crime inspector i just think you should
05:42take the hat off yeah all right
05:44victim is kira mayhew 42 years old fully qualified clinical therapist ran a couples retreat here
06:01cause of death looks like a drowning went for a swim at seven o'clock yesterday evening and at nine o'clock
06:07two fishermen came across a body about a hundred meters out directly opposite this spot they watched
06:13over the body until the paramedics arrived who else was here last night about six people in total four
06:20residents two staff the chef and the waitress there's some bruising around her neck and shoulders looks
06:25like finger marks paramedics say they're recent more likely from someone forcing her down under the water
06:31they reckon it's murder that's why they called us so what she swam out to sea somebody was with her
06:38and did this or maybe somebody was waiting for out there on a boat inspector what would you say if i
06:43told you i just found a bingo ball at a crime scene i'd say have you actually found a bingo ball at the
06:50crime scene and i would say yes yes i did find a bingo ball at the crime scene 13 i'm looking for some
06:58i mean it probably doesn't have much to do with kira may who's murdered all right we don't know yet
07:06let's bag it oh okay the bingo ball is officially evidenced now bagging the bingo ball all right
07:12sergeant fletcher you talk to the staff officer rose see if there's any security cameras in the place
07:18and ds thomas let's talk to the guests oh i'll keep on the back
07:24sorry did you just say murder what i thought it was an accident well it wasn't so we need to ask
07:34you where you all were between the hours of seven and nine last night are you saying we're suspects
07:38when did you last see kira mayhew before dinner we were having some aperitifs and she came and
07:43told us to have a nice night enjoy your evening thank you thank you what time was that just before
07:50seven she went for a swim and didn't see her again until she was was um dead
07:57just say it
08:00and was that a regular thing her going for a swim at that time
08:06seemed to be like most evenings kira said it was her own therapy getting into the sea after a long
08:12day she found it uh restorative and during the two hours between you seeing her and her body being
08:19found you were we were all together having dinner
08:21look it wasn't one of us okay nobody told us that we were going to be grilled like this none of us have
08:31even been to bed and i took a sleeping pill
08:33don't apologize for me alistair you know i hate it when you do that sorry dear don't call me dear
08:42either no of course not sorry for god okay well if you think of anything let us know
08:51god help us
08:55i spoke with the staff who can alibi each other for the time of the murder
09:05they were preparing dinner between seven and nine
09:08you tinky listening i'm listening just checking sir what did they say about the victim
09:14well that she was a decent boss always paid them on time was friendly
09:18any idea i'd want to harm her no they reckon she didn't really know anyone here never saw her
09:23got out much kept herself to herself i checked her phone all her texts and all her emails work
09:29related apart from her mom back in england how's she doing not great we said we'd speak tomorrow
09:36when she might be a little bit calmer i found this
09:42date and time is yesterday 5 52 in the afternoon
09:48that's just over on oa before her swim
09:58it's the weekend now but monday will be a big day i have exciting plans and i think that there could be a real breakthrough
10:06my instinct on this is that a lie is being told
10:17if i can draw out the truth
10:20the fallout would be truly devastating
10:26and only a couple of hours later she's been murdered
10:29you're thinking one of the guests here did it
10:31i'm thinking maybe one of them did on one hand all the four guests were having dinner together at the
10:40time of kira mayhu's murder now look there are only two cameras in the resort just before seven
10:47o'clock kira mayhu goes for a swim but on the other hand all the guests leave the table once during the
10:53evening so in theory it could have been any one of them all right um now here at 18 minutes past seven
11:02mr hartnell go to his bedroom to get his glasses and then here 7 46 stacy wobble goes to the bathroom to
11:09check her makeup and at 8 03 mrs hartnell goes to grab her shawl
11:14and after that at 8 30 luke wava goes to his bedroom to get a bottle of rum
11:21so each of them had opportunity to kill the victim during the dinner except on the other other hand
11:30no one leaves the table for more than two to three minutes and they all returned dry as a bone okay so
11:36how did one of them manage to leave the dinner table run down to the beach get themselves somehow
11:42out to see a hundred meters drown kira mayhu then come all the way back dry off before returning to
11:50the table in less than a few minutes well that's just not possible
11:56all right sebastian i'll read the victim's notebook you make us start listening to these tapes focus on
12:13the ones recorded since the four suspects arrived yeah oh these tips are teeny tiny look they make me look
12:21look like a giant says the giants so printed the victim schedule the day of her murder trust exercises
12:29in the morning sounds fun lunch followed by one-to-one sessions in the afternoon with stacy walbert
12:36then alistair hartnell inspector i came to check in on the murder case the minister gets nervous when one
12:44of our resorts is hit by a crime i'd like to reassure her it's in hand yes sir we're currently working
12:53on the basis that one of the four residents did it we just need to work out which one it was and how
12:58they did it and why so pretty much everything
13:06you look smart sir going somewhere nice yacht club lobster night
13:16lobster night eh that's why you're looking so snappy
13:19you know snappy like clothes no no lobster clothes i get the joke inspector i just didn't find it very funny
13:35enjoy your evenings you too sir snappy like clothes you know
13:38no i need to get this hello mate excuse me commissioner

16:25Mervyn, my brother, please don't do this to me.
16:28I'm sorry, all right?
16:30I just...
16:31I really needed the money.
16:33I'm in debt.
16:34And it's to the kind of person you don't much want to be in debt to.
16:40I'm sorry I let you down.
16:41I just...
16:43I didn't know what else to do.
16:46I just need my stuff back, Saul.
16:4924 hours.
16:52Otherwise, I'm pressing charges.
16:53Do you understand?
16:55Appreciate it, man.
17:04So, we dusted the bingo ball for prints, sir, like you requested, but got nothing from it.
17:17Oh.
17:18Oh, well.
17:19Worth a try, eh?
17:21Right.
17:22What else we got?
17:23We've done background on both couples.
17:26The Hartnells live in Islington in London.
17:30He's a barrister.
17:31She runs a luxury interior design business.
17:34Ah, very Islington.
17:35They did a brief spell of grief counselling with another therapist shortly after their daughter died.
17:41She was only 17.
17:44Seems their marriage has been struggling ever since.
17:46What about the Warbers?
17:49Also live in London.
17:51Luke works in finance, earns well.
17:54Has been married to Stacey for three years.
17:56I've been reading the victim's notes on both couples.
17:59She records a lot after her sessions with them, especially on the dictaphone.
18:04But it's okay.
18:05Officer Rose is working on it.
18:07Yes.
18:08Yes, I am.
18:09I am totally on top of it.
18:11So, don't you worry, Inspector.
18:12It seems the Warbers came out here because they've been having intimacy issues.
18:20It's been 18 months since they were last intimate with each other.
18:25When you say intimate, you mean intimate?
18:28Yes.
18:29And according to the notes, the issue is entirely on Luke's side.
18:33And in one of their last sessions, Miss Mayhew got in to admit why he was like this.
18:40Go on.
18:4118 months ago.
18:42Luke was unfaithful.
18:44He had a one-night thing.
18:45Naughty, naughty boy.
18:47Mm-hmm.
18:48With him wife's sister.
18:50Cha-cha.
18:51Oh, sorry, what?
18:53Mm-hmm.
18:54And ever since, he's been wracked with guilt and shame.
18:56Why?
18:57He's been a busy, busy man.
18:59I mean, that explains why he can't do the business.
19:02Mm-hmm.
19:02Now, Kira told him that he needs to confront it, that he can't ignore it anymore.
19:11She was suggesting he tell Stacey.
19:13I think she knew their marriage couldn't move forward based on a betrayal like that.
19:16Is that what Kira Mayhew was referring to when she said...
19:22My instinct on this is that a lie is being told.
19:26So, Luke killed her to silence her?
19:30Stop the truth coming out?
19:36It's a cliche, isn't it?
19:38Saying something's the biggest mistake of your life.
19:41How did it happen?
19:42Oh, I don't know.
19:43I just...
19:44People flirt, you know?
19:48With Stacey, we go for a night out and the blokes swarm in.
19:52I mean, you've seen her.
19:53She's gorgeous.
19:54She could have anyone if she wanted.
19:57And what happened with me and Chelle, her sister,
20:00it felt like I was...
20:02Like I was proving myself that I've still got it too, you know?
20:06But something in you must have wanted to come clean
20:08because you admitted it to Kira Mayhew.
20:11I thought she'd help.
20:12In what way?
20:14Obsolve me of the guilt if I opened up?
20:17I think that's a priest you're after.
20:19But all she said was that the marriage couldn't survive
20:21if it was built on a betrayal like that.
20:25She's normally so calm and measured, but with that...
20:28It really bothered her.
20:31Like she wasn't going to let it go.
20:34And that's what worried you?
20:35She panicked you that she would tell Stacey herself.
20:39And then you'd lose your gorgeous wife completely.
20:41But you weren't going to let that happen.
20:43And that is why you murdered Kira Mayhew.
20:45No.
20:46No.
20:47That's why I've come to you.
20:48Because I know what it looks like.
20:51But it wasn't me who killed her.
20:54I swear to you.
20:58All right.
21:00That's all for now.
21:01What a moron.
21:17Sir?
21:17Inspector.
21:24Postmortem's in.
21:25Confirms what we thought.
21:27Water in the victim's lungs confirms she died due to drowning.
21:31Finger marks on her shoulders and neck suggest she was forced under the water.
21:35But how did the killer manage to do it?
21:39To leave from the dinner table here, run down to the beach, drown Kira, then get back to
21:45the dinner table, seemingly with not a spot of water on them.
21:49And in just a few minutes.
21:51And how does this figure into all of this?
21:53Why was it at our crime scene?
21:55You do know things get washed up on beaches all the time.
21:59Yeah, but a bingo ball?
22:04Officer Rose.
22:07Officer Rose.
22:10Officer Rose.
22:12Huh?
22:13Have you made any progress with the tapes yet?
22:15No progress as such.
22:17But I assure you, when I get something, you'll be the first to know.
22:21Inspector, I just spoke with the victim's mum, Sandra.
22:24Go on.
22:24To this day, her mum doesn't know why Kira left the UK.
22:29She didn't just want a change of scene?
22:31No, it was totally out of the blue.
22:33Overnight, Kira left her fiancé, announced that she was setting up a practice abroad,
22:38never even kept in touch with any of her friends.
22:41So it got me thinking, could Kira Mayhew's murder be connected to something that happened
22:46back in the UK?
22:47Hmm.
22:48Also, sir, Kira's mum spoke with her just before that swim, while she was heading down
22:57to the beach.
23:00And she's...
23:02Officer Rose, see what's going on out there, will you?
23:05Anyway, she said Kira seemed distracted.
23:15Distant, even.
23:16Her mum said it was like she wasn't even present.
23:19Inspector, some big-headed brother in a sports car is asking for you.
23:24So, you got my stuff then?
23:36Not in a physical sense, no.
23:39What's that supposed to mean?
23:40Been a busy day.
23:41Bit of business here, bit of business there.
23:43Always somewhere I got to be in Salomon land.
23:48But, I know who has your thing, so...
23:51Jump in, and let's go get there.
24:04So, this is where all my stuff is?
24:06Nice.
24:08It's Myrtle Chastanet's place.
24:10You ever come across her?
24:11No.
24:12Funnily enough.
24:13She's the kind of person you go to if you have some things to sell it, maybe other people,
24:17maybe less inclined to...
24:17So, she fences stolen goods?
24:19It's not for me to put a label on what...
24:21Sir, I say yes.
24:23We'll have you reunited with your stuff in no time.
24:26She's a very amenable woman.
24:30Who is it?
24:31Myrtle?
24:32It's Salomon Clark, remember me?
24:34Got my brother here with me.
24:36It was his stuff I sold you, and...
24:40We were wondering if we could get it back.
24:41No!
24:42No, clear up!
24:45Myrtle!
24:45Honey!
24:46Don't you honey me, master!
24:47She's a lot more vexed than I remember her being before.
24:50Myrtle!
24:50I'm going to cut to the chase.
24:52You are currently in possession of items illegally taken from my home.
24:58Myrtle!
25:03Think she's tinkering about it.
25:04What the...
25:10What's she do that for?
25:12What is this stuff?
25:15It's in my eyes.
25:17It's burning.
25:18Hot sauce.
25:18God!
25:19Why'd she pour hot sauce over me?
25:21I don't know, man.
25:22Oh!
25:23But it got to admit.
25:24God!
25:25I'm not funny.
25:25I don't know.
25:26I don't know.
25:26I don't know.
25:27I don't know.
25:28I don't know what you're playing at.
25:30How much hot sauce has she got?
25:31Why has she got so much of it?
25:32I think it's some bullet teeth she's got going on.
25:34And if that's not sent you packing, then I will set Tiberius on you.
25:37Who's Tiberius?
25:38Feels like we come at a bad time.
25:42Maybe we should come back another day.
25:44They're threatening to publish this article.
25:53Doesn't hold back, does it?
25:56After everything I've done for this, I learn.
26:00This is the thanks I receive.
26:03And the fact that Anton Lucetti's sharpening the knives was of no surprise to me.
26:10You and he have history?
26:12Because I have no respect for this gossip mongering rag.
26:16This isn't journalism.
26:18This is attention-rabbing rhetoric.
26:24What?
26:29This island petitioned to get you your job back.
26:33And you walked away without any explanation, like you didn't care.
26:37And now, months later, you come back as if nothing happened.
26:42I do care.
26:45You know that.
26:47But others don't.
26:49All they know is that their commissioner of police abandoned them.
26:55It's up to you to change their minds.
27:00Oh, my eyes won't stop singing, man.
27:02Tell me about it.
27:03The sun should go down into my trousers.
27:04I'm telling you, Mervyn.
27:05There's hot sauce in places.
27:06Hot sauce is not supposed to go, Mervyn, man.
27:10That's some mighty fiery sauce Mervyn's been cooking up.
27:11Look at us.
27:12We're covered in this stuff.
27:13Like a couple of chicken wings.
27:15Oh.
27:16Oh.
27:17Oh.
27:18Oh.
27:19Oh.
27:20You're a liability, sir.
27:21Oh.
27:22You know that.
27:23You know that.
27:24My life has been turned upside down.
27:25You know that.
27:26My life has been turned upside down since you came into it.
27:27Yeah.
27:28I kind of have a lot of stuff.
27:29Like a couple of chicken wings.
27:30Like a couple of chicken wings.
27:31Oh.
27:34Oh.
27:37Oh.
27:38Oh.
27:46You're a...
27:47a liability, sir.
27:49You know that.
27:52My life has been turned upside down since you came into it.
27:55into it. Yeah, I kind of have that effect. I can't live like that, man. I'm a detective
28:07inspector. Do you understand that? And I need my clothes back. And I need to not be chasing
28:16around after you. This is not how I... I'm sorry, man.
28:46Huh? Oh, hey, Sarge. Yeah, right there. You same boat? Yeah, just, um, yeah,
29:16what are you doing here? Been having drinks with a friend from Jamaica. I was just on my way home
29:21when I see the lights are on. And I realize Officer Rose is working late. Why is Officer Rose
29:28working late? I'm asking myself. Yeah, just, um, going through these tapes. Still. Still on
29:37these tapes. And which one you're on now, then? Tape number two.
29:44Two. Tape two. Is that all? I'm sorry, Sarge. It's just every time I start listening,
29:51my mind just wanders somewhere else. Then I start thinking about other things. So then
29:57I rewind the tape to the beginning. But then the same thing happens all over again. It's...
30:02It's just my brain, you know? Can get a bit fidgety sometimes. Like, I know what I'm meant to
30:14be doing. And I intentionally try to do it. But my mind just does its own a thing. I just
30:23want to finish this. Hmm. All right. How about we go through this together? You and me.
30:36You sure, Sarge?
30:38I know. If it was me here needing assistance, you would do exactly the same thing. Right?
30:45No. No. I'm just joking. Of course I would. No question. So there you go, then.
30:57All right. Let's do this thing.
31:02My boy.
31:05So, you have a good time with your friend? Oh, it was cool, you know.
31:09Huh? Yeah? Nice to hear all the gossip going on back in Kingston.
31:15You know, you never did tell me why you left Jamaica.
31:24I left because of a guy I was seeing.
31:30Things got complicated between us.
31:33And, um, I just realised the best thing that I could do
31:40was just to turn and walk away.
31:46Hmm.
31:46Hmm.
31:47Hmm.
31:48Hmm.
32:13Hmm.
32:14Good morning Isaac. Good morning. Good morning Clarence. Good morning. How was the catch this morning? So soon. So soon. Let me look. Let me look. Let me see. We'll take two of you. Okay. I want that one there. That big one.
32:44Good morning Sarge. Morning. Morning. Inspector. I'm here. We got your message. So I was doing a bit of nosing around the old place and bingo. Literally. Oh so that's where it came from. Yeah apparently this place used to be a resort for the over 60s.
33:14So this must have been here since then. Okay. So how do you explain one of those bingo balls ending up on the same beach as our crime scene?
33:23Well it didn't magic itself there did it? Somebody must have taken it from this. So we're going to have to dust it for prints. I could do that for you sir.
33:32Nice one. How about you two? You got something? So the tapes care of me who recorded over the last week.
33:40There was 10 hours of it. And throughout it all when she talks about Alistair and Margot Hartnell she doesn't once mention they lost a daughter.
33:50She was only 17. Seems their marriage has been struggling ever since.
33:55Which was kind of odd. So we did some digging. Their daughter Charlotte was killed in a car accident. A hit and run. But the person who did it was never found. All that was known was that it was a female driver. Only the hit and run happened outside the family home in Islington.
34:15Kira Mayhew's practice was just over a mile away. Also it happened on the 1st of April 2021. And Kira Mayhew she moved over here 6 weeks later.
34:27Is it possible that that's what it was? Kira was behind a car accident?
34:35That's good work. A pair of you. Well done. You go and get that dusted and we're going to talk to the Hartnells.
34:42So who's going to hold this then?
34:48We didn't come here because we suspected Kira Mayhew was a woman who killed our daughter. We came in a last ditch attempt to save our marriage. Truly we did.
34:57Then why did you never mention to Miss Mayhew the fact that you lost your daughter?
35:02By your own admission your relationship problem started 5 years ago. At the same time.
35:10We didn't talk about it with her. Because we never talk about it. It's easier if we don't.
35:16Margot tries bless her. Or used to. You know to try to get me to open up. But I just can't bear it.
35:23I don't want to lose her. I want to fix our marriage. But I can't if I have to churn all that up again.
35:36I'm just not strong enough. It's alright my love.
35:38If the Hartnells didn't come here for revenge then the question still remains. Why did Kira Mayhew leave London 5 years ago?
35:56What happened to make her suddenly up sticks and move to the other side of the world?
35:59Stacy, please give me a call when you get this. Just let me know you're okay.
36:09So, it's Stacy. I think she's had a meltdown. I haven't seen her since yesterday.
36:16I think she knew. I think Kira told her about me and her sister.
36:22Mishnah, everything alright?
36:24We'll look into it.
36:26We'll look into it.
36:41I saw she was upset. Crying. So, I went over. As soon as she said she was staying at the corpse retreat, I called you.
36:48Couldn't get much from her. Except, she didn't want me to phone her husband.
36:57Yeah. Well, that's hardly surprising.
37:00Uh, sir. Um, maybe I should take this one.
37:06Everyone knows, don't they? Only us. May I?
37:29Can you tell me when you found out, Mrs. Warbur?
37:32Thursday night. I went to get some air on the beach and Kira was there.
37:40She'd been drinking. I've not seen it like that. She'd always been so composed.
37:46She could hardly stand up, so I helped her back to her bungalow.
37:50She was sort of rambling.
37:53Talking about some guy who had betrayed her back in England before she moved here.
37:56I'd been cheating on her. I got her home and put her on the couch.
38:02And she looked me in the eyes and spoke to me.
38:05Stacey.
38:06Like it really mattered.
38:07Don't be like me. Don't, Stacey.
38:11There was just something in the way she'd said it.
38:14Then I knew she'd had a one-to-one session with Luke that day and maybe whatever he'd said had, like, triggered her.
38:20It reminded her of her own betrayal. That's why she was drunk.
38:26So when she was asleep, I saw her notebook.
38:33I felt sick.
38:35Couldn't even process it.
38:38Couldn't even breathe.
38:41So I just pretended I didn't know.
38:43Stacey, you've been through a lot in the last couple of days.
38:49If you were in denial, if Kira was pressing you to confront what you'd found out...
38:56No. No, I didn't.
38:58I admit there was all this pent-up stuff inside me, but I didn't kill Kira.
39:04I swear.
39:05All right.
39:15Well, thank you for talking with me, Mr. Shaw.
39:17What did the ex-boyfriend have to say for himself?
39:20The ex-fiancee.
39:22The affair he was having had been going on for three whole years behind Kira's back when she found out.
39:29Wow. That must have flawed her.
39:30I mean, her job is to provide relationship advice when all the time she was blind to a three-year-long deception.
39:37Explains why she suddenly opt and left for another country.
39:40And why Luke's betrayal triggered her so much.
39:43And why she had one or three over the limit.
39:46But...
39:48It still doesn't explain why she was murdered three nights ago.
39:51Inspector Diaz-Thomas, I think we got something.
40:01Patrick Campbell, therapist. Consultation fee, $150.
40:06He's based in Guadalupe. Specializes in hypnotherapy.
40:11Kira called him Friday afternoon, asking for advice.
40:15He offered to share their conversation as part of our investigation.
40:19On what?
40:20She said a client of hers, Margot Hartnell, had just opened up to her.
40:25And was struggling with the memory of an event of her recent past.
40:29Because she had completely blocked it out.
40:31Which, apparently, is not uncommon for people dealing with traumatic experiences.
40:34And according to Mr. Campbell, it's a pretty unorthodox approach for Kira to resort to hypnotherapy so early on in the process.
40:41But she was convinced it was necessary.
40:43So, this forgotten memory, do we know what it's to do with?
40:48The night their daughter was killed in a hit and run five years ago.
40:52Mrs. Hartnell does not remember a thing about it.
40:56But ever since, she's been growing this feeling of guilt.
41:00You know?
41:02Like, maybe she might have done something bad that night.
41:05Wait.
41:07You don't mean...
41:09All that was known was that it was a female driver.
41:14And Mrs. Hartnell wanted it all off the record.
41:17That's why there was nothing in her notes or recordings.
41:21Right.
41:23We need to talk to Mrs. Hartnell and that therapist.
41:25We need him here sharpish.
41:27Come on.
41:29Well, at first it was just guilt I felt.
41:32Our grief counsellor said it was normal as a parent to feel a sense of responsibility.
41:36Look, whatever I did five years ago, I want the truth to come out.
41:41If you think I killed Keira Mayhew because I wanted to stop that happening, you're wrong.
41:46She arranged for me to have hypnotherapy today.
41:49Well, that can still happen, Mrs. Hartnell.
41:52We've arranged for a hypnotherapist to speak with you, if you feel you're able.
41:57Inspector!
41:59If you wouldn't mind going with Sergeant Fletcher.
42:02Yeah.
42:03I guess all we can do now is wait.
42:16Ah, we're back to the bingo ball.
42:19Inspector!
42:21Sarge!
42:23Just got back from dusting off the bingo ball machine for prints.
42:26Unfortunately, nothing.
42:27What's up with the inspector?
42:35Am I alright?
42:37Inspector!
42:39Everything alright, sir? You've got something?
42:42Sir, what are you doing?
42:45It's a little experiment. The bingo balls float.
43:08The bingo ball floats.
43:09Okay, so why take it out of the bingo ball cage thingy and bring it to the sea? To the water's edge?
43:20Was it just to see if it floats? Or maybe it's to see where it goes?
43:26In which case...
43:27So how did one of them manage to leave the dinner table, run down to the beach, somehow get themselves 100 metres out to sea, drown Keira Mayhew?
43:42None of them left the table for more than two to three minutes at a time.
43:45And was that a regular thing, her going for a swim at that time?
43:50Most evenings.
43:52She said Keira seemed distracted.
43:59Of course!
44:01That's why you were there, you little beauty!
44:07Okay, I need to speak to a fisherman or an oceanographer-ologist type of person.
44:12Basically anyone who knows the currents in this bay.
44:15T.S. Thomas, I need a toxicology report done on Keira Mayhew.
44:19Officer Rose, I need you to collect some evidence from her office.
44:22But you know who did it?
44:24I do.
44:26And I know how they managed to drown Keira Mayhew 100 metres out of sea without even stepping a foot in the water.
44:32Come on!
44:33For those wondering why Margot Hartnell isn't here with us, it's because she's currently with a hypnotherapist.
44:43Doing what she was always supposed to be doing today.
44:46Trying to recover a buried memory of what really happened five years ago.
44:51The night her daughter died.
44:54Why am I telling you this?
44:55Because Margot's therapy sessions were meant to be conducted by Keira Mayhew until somebody tried to stop the truth from coming out.
45:05By murdering her.
45:07Mr. Hartnell.
45:08Mr. Hartnell.
45:11Me?
45:13I did no such thing.
45:15Oh, but you did.
45:16I know you did.
45:18But how, I was at dinner when it happened?
45:20On dry bloody land?
45:21Yeah, you were.
45:23Which is why it was so clever of you.
45:25But now that I've got a better understanding of what's gone on,
45:28I believe you created a small window of opportunity in which to commit murder.
45:33But not 100 metres out of sea.
45:35sea you drown kira mayhew right outside your own bungalow because from the very start of this case
45:45we've worked on the assumption that as miss mayhew's body was discovered 100 meters out at sea in a
45:51straight line from where she swam that's where she was drowned but what if actually when miss
45:57mayhew went for her evening dip she preferred to swim along the shore rather than out from it
46:05that would mean she'd have to swim past your bungalow farther along the beach and that would
46:12give you opportunity to commit murder but when i told you i was at dinner when it happened
46:20yeah we have security camera footage that shows you leaving the dinner table to get your glasses
46:26at 18 minutes past seven i was gone what a couple of minutes three minutes at the most you're not
46:33seriously suggesting i was able to physically drown a fit and healthy woman in that time without
46:38getting soaked in water yeah sounds impossible right but i don't think miss mayhew was as fit
46:46and healthy as she might normally be i believe you sedated her we know that your wife uses sleeping
46:54pills none of us been to bed and i took a sleeping pill and we also know that you are the last person
47:01to have a one-to-one session with miss mayhew that day at 5 pm one-to-one sessions in the afternoon
47:07with stacy warber then alistair hartnell and while there
47:12we believe you spiked her drink when she wasn't looking we didn't believe kira was drugged because
47:22the finger marks on her neck suggested she was held down by force and drowned we're awaiting the
47:27toxicology report and results from the glass kira drank from and have no doubt we'll get confirmation
47:34that there were significant traces of sleeping pills in her system and so while miss mayhew was
47:41swimming she suddenly felt drowsy and swam ashore when you returned to your bungalow under the pretense
47:51of getting your glasses you ran down to the beach where miss mayhew was lying unconscious on the sand
47:57and then you did two things first you grabbed her neck and shoulders making sure to leave
48:04bruises so it would look like someone had strangled her and forced her under the water before moving
48:11her into the sea for her to be carried away making sure that she was face down so they're still unconscious
48:19her lungs would fill with water it took less than a minute all you had to do now was hurry back to the
48:27dinner table and leave kira to drown and let the sea do the rest of the work for you we checked with
48:35a local oceanologist at the university and the current in this bay moves in a north westerly direction
48:43which means it would have carried miss mayhew's body diagonally taking her from your bungalow here to
48:51where her body was discovered to where her body was discovered here and with her clothes being left on
48:55the beach here we'd all assume she swam in a straight line now you had no idea where the currents would
49:04take kira's body so you had to test it first didn't you you went and found this and you threw it into the
49:14sea to observe which route it took which was conveniently in a north westerly direction from
49:19your bungalow directly to where kira began her nightly swim and that's when your plan finally came
49:24together kira's body was found still at sea not long after she drowned but this ball left overnight
49:34ended up washing up ashore and that was your undoing but why would you do this to her
49:39because he didn't want kira to help his wife remember well remember what what he did
49:54i remember arister i remember all of it
50:01all the horror of it
50:04you rushing in and telling me someone had hurt our little girl
50:09and i remember the ambulance and the police and the shock and the pain
50:20and i remember you coming in
50:24and holding me in tears shaking
50:29both of us heartbroken
50:30and i remember in that moment
50:38the smell of alcohol on your breath
50:41and i remember coming back inside
50:50and seeing you
50:51i checked the original case file mr hartnell and the phone call to the police in which the hit and
51:04run driver was described as female came from an anonymous caller that was you wasn't it trying to direct
51:13suspicion away from yourself
51:22i would have lost everything
51:27you don't have to say anything but it may harm your defense if you do not mention when questioned
51:42was something you later rely on in court.
51:57I never want to see you ever again.
52:12Well, well, well. Good evening to you both.
52:19Good evening.
52:20Catherine, we spoke at Marianne Edwards' charity barbecue, I think.
52:25I don't remember.
52:26I certainly enjoyed our little chat.
52:31Commissioner, can I get you a rub?
52:32That won't be necessary. This won't take that long.
52:35I think I'll have one, Catherine, if you wouldn't mind.
52:38I appreciate you giving me an advance copy of the article.
52:45Here is my written statement in response.
52:50Saying?
52:52I agree with every single word you've written.
52:59Sorry?
52:59After receiving some sage advice from my good friend here,
53:04as I say in my statement,
53:06it hurt to think that the bond I had forged with this island had been broken.
53:13But the circumstances were of my own making.
53:16So, I will be the one to fix it.
53:20And how will you do that?
53:21As of tomorrow, I will be commencing an initiative with my team.
53:26And with a little help from the island's mayor.
53:28An initiative to strengthen our relationship with the community.
53:35So, if you'll excuse me, I have work to do.
53:39Good evening.
53:42Well, he just killed my article, didn't he?
53:47With one single shot.
53:51I think he maybe just has.
53:56Enjoy your room.
53:58Enjoy your room.
53:58Well, he's also going to be one single shot.
54:12Hey!
54:13Oh, he's going to be one single shot.
54:17Oh, that's good.
54:19I'm just going to be one single shot.
54:21And how are you going to be one single shot?
54:23Oh, you're the one single shot.
54:23Oh, I'm just going to be two.
54:25I'm just going to be two.
54:26Sorry, mate. That's my hat.
54:53Hey, so...
54:55Look, I just got home and I saw you brought all my stuff back.
55:00Oh, you know, work the old Solomon Clark magic.
55:04Yeah, well, I just wanted to say thank you.
55:07Did you have to give Myrtle her money back?
55:09I mean, you're not in debt still, are you?
55:11Ah, don't worry yourself.
55:13Anyway, man, got to get the boat back to Antigua.
55:16Got some business over there that needs attendant.
55:19Of course you have.
55:20I mean, there's always something going on in Solomonland, right?
55:23You said it.
55:29Look, what about us now?
55:33I mean, what do we do next?
55:37I don't know, man.
55:39Like you said, I am troubled.
55:42A detective doesn't need that in his life.
55:44Look, so, I didn't mean...
55:45Maybe I shouldn't have said that.
55:48Dan, no disrespect to you, bro, but...
55:51Ain't much good to me having a police officer around.
55:54Got a reputation to keep.
55:56Yeah, yeah, no, I totally understand.
56:01Look, man.
56:03We tried this and...
56:06Maybe it just wasn't meant to be here, no?
56:09Look after yourself, brother.
56:11Yeah, you too.
56:12Look, Solomon, I...
56:14the essay line, and you too...
56:16Go.

56:59Was?
57:00Henry Ashby moved to St. Marie ten years ago.
57:03Henry was definitely mixed up in something murky.
57:05The victim's copy of this book was missing from his bookshelf.
57:08So, where is it?
57:09I need to reassure you that this island still matters to me.
57:14Why did the detective not bother showing up?
57:17Why was your moped seen outside the victim's villa up in the hills?
57:21Did you ever catch them, Inspector? I'd sleep much better knowing you did.
57:24It wasn't me!
