00:00Oh, hi, everybody.
00:10Hey, y'all.
00:13This has been 2022.
00:15We met y'all.
00:16Yeah.
00:17Go business.
00:21So, we're going to give y'all a super candid conversation.
00:26Um, I'm one of the other founders and CEO of Bullet Bar.
00:34And I'm just facing the founder and CEO of Bullet Bar.
00:41And we're actually really good friends, y'all.
00:44Like, so y'all are getting like, I'm just very much better.
00:48I'm just very much better.
00:49But y'all are just going to get a really honest and transparent conversation about how we take care of ourselves.
00:55How we show up for ourselves as black women, as black women in business, as an entrepreneur, as an entrepreneur, as an entrepreneur, as an entrepreneur.
01:03So, we're going to try to be happy to take care of ourselves.
01:08It's not in business.
01:10I think they're not in a good way to realize that it's really hard to take care of yourself.
01:16So, you know, being here, while we're going to be able to travel, I guess it's my help, isn't it?
01:24Do you all know it's okay?
01:26Okay.
01:26Yeah.
01:26Yeah.
01:27Yeah.
01:27Yeah.
01:28So, what about us are?
01:33So, what, what this wellness, infant's living wellness means to you, Melissa?
01:40So, this is an interesting topic because I'm going to be really honest with y'all.
01:47Last year, for probably like four months, I was actually depressed.
01:52I, all last summer, I was, I was literally sad and I didn't realize why I couldn't tend to my joy.
02:00Like, I couldn't find the joy and it wasn't until I actually started being honest, like, honest with my community.
02:09I knew how I felt internally, but when I started being honest with my time and being like, I don't feel good.
02:16Something is a little off.
02:18Like, that is when I started reclaiming my wellness, my life, further stepping in spread truth and being unafraid to share my truth.
02:27And so, what it means to me is radical acceptance and a radical honesty.
02:33So, 2021, my word for the year ended up just being acceptance because that's what I had to do.
02:39I had to accept, accept exactly who I was and where I was and understand that that was okay.
02:46And for me, it is something that is what life is.
02:50It is my sentence.
02:51I'm serious.
02:52I'm serious.
02:52I'm serious.
02:56I'm only, that was, like, four weeks ago for me.
03:00I've seen the front, like, yeah.
03:04And, um, I was told that he caught up in fire for the first time.
03:10It was fantastic.
03:11I was terrified and it was amazing to me.
03:14And even this time, it was fantastic when my fire was only.
03:18You know, when the human community is coming in, she didn't even have done a little thing for the people.
03:26It was so much better, you know.
03:29And I didn't think it to be, you know.
03:35Because I, like, I think everything that just makes sense.
03:40And it was, like, a little more about the sense of what you are.
03:43I wasn't sure the person that was doing well-being to me, right?
03:47And so, you know, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just what it is.
03:52So, let me ask you this, yeah.
03:54So, you need to go viral.
03:58People are making me online.
04:00Sometimes people do that.
04:02So, baby, yeah.
04:03But, Jim, and then last week we had, you know, role in return.
04:09You know, how are you tapping into, like, your piece of wellness and self-care?
04:14I'm going to say, close your health.
04:17Well, like, so, so, let me go viral.
04:20And I thought, you know, it means to myself that I wasn't okay.
04:25Right?
04:25I'm just trying to be on a rant.
04:27I was trying to say, I was impatient.
04:29I was taking some of the hard moments, right?
04:32And I needed to, like, take some time to, like, get quiet and go in.
04:37Just do some time.
04:39Just do some stuff.
04:40And, you know, just keep myself in.
04:44It didn't even go away.
04:46You know, it means to me.
04:50Um, it's going to be, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's.
04:55It's like, so you're using the writing to say.
04:58And what do you believe in, like, what we, did, writing or not?
05:03What do you believe in abortion or not?
05:05Maybe so?
05:06Sure.
05:06You're using the tightest.
05:08And in our, in, in, in, our, in pieces of the tightest.
05:12And it just makes choices that they can be great.
05:16And I don't know what people think.
05:18When you think about me, you know, I'm just saying,
05:21I think you're not going to be right to me.
05:23That's something I'm going to have to say when you're like,
05:25I'm going to be right to me.
05:26Maybe about me, just get the price of me.
05:29And so, and things that we're seeing,
05:32because as far as what I'm praising for,
05:36is this team and our company,
05:38and how committed we are to access education,
05:42and how people don't understand what their rights are
05:46and what they can do.
05:47Because I really don't think they also have a given.
05:50Keep me now, please.
05:52Keep me.
05:53And make me believe in what you're all going to do.
05:55And so, we're not here to judge what you believe or not.
05:59But we're here to continue to use an education.
06:01And so, I think the most important thing,
06:04and so my thing,
06:06was that I wanted to be able to take care of myself
06:10and make me think this of myself.
06:14You know, because that's really all that we have.
06:17And tell me how it's really hard to make good to its customers.
06:21Oh, man.
06:22We love our customers so much.
06:25I think,
06:27I think,
06:28I think one of the main ways that we do it is we serve humanity.
06:34Because we should have made a secret into our ingredients,
06:38because our products are thinking this and work in this company.
06:44We're so devoted,
06:45and so we love with our work.
06:47Um, you know,
06:49we're just a piece of a single response.
06:52So that's how we make fun.
06:53That's how we make fun.
06:54So that's how we make fun.
06:54So that's how we make fun.
06:55So that's how we make fun.
06:55So that's how we make fun.
06:56So that's how we make fun.
06:57But what about you?
06:59Like,
06:59I mean,
07:00even though we're all made,
07:03it's when you think that you're necessarily good.
07:06And that's what you aren't necessarily like.
07:08And a lot of reasons you don't have to be in the middle of the middle of the middle.
07:10I mean,
07:11the reality is,
07:12Public Bar has always taken an approach of,
07:17we're not just in a big company.
07:18So like,
07:19you know how people will tell best people,
07:21all players should have been terrible.
07:22I'm like,
07:23my fan page should have.
07:24Like,
07:24this is my life.
07:25This is also my country.
07:27This is my body.
07:28And like,
07:29my customer,
07:30my team is all women.
07:31My customers are,
07:33the overwhelming majority of my customers are women.
07:36And so like,
07:37whatever our customers are going through,
07:39we are going through.
07:41The way that we serve our customers is by being our customers.
07:45I mean,
07:46it's true.
07:47It's what they care about,
07:48what they're experiencing,
07:50and making sure that we are teaching it back to them,
07:54and we are part of whatever struggle,
07:57or whatever triumphs they're going through.
07:59Like,
07:59I started,
08:01the loop bar literally making lipstick in my kitchen,
08:03and now it's a multi-million dollar business.
08:05And it's only been,
08:07it's only because of the community.
08:11So how dare I turn my back on the community?
08:13So like,
08:13no,
08:14because,
08:15it's not necessarily,
08:17you know,
08:17political,
08:18it doesn't have to be political.
08:20We'll make it our hands dirty as often as possible,
08:22and I'll never forget.
08:24Um,
08:24this is probably like 2018,
08:27and we put up a post on Instagram,
08:29and it's in,
08:30Merry Christmas to everyone,
08:31except no,
08:32so.
08:32So,
08:33this is a pretty,
08:35this hilarious point,
08:36that immediately we saw a post for us,
08:39right,
08:39we saw who are not combined,
08:41and like,
08:42some people are afraid to take those political stances,
08:45but I think the reality is,
08:47you cannot serve everyone,
08:49and you can try to serve everyone,
08:50and even though you are not serving yourselves,
08:53and so that's,
08:53that's how,
08:54to live,
08:55I should have fun with them.
08:57It doesn't mean,
08:58you know,
08:59as long as so,
08:59this is a big deal,
09:00and we're human,
09:02and all of you,
09:03and I think,
09:04and I think,
09:04and I think that,
09:04and I think that,
09:05and I think that,
09:06and I think that,
09:06and I think that,
09:07and I think that,
09:08because we're also customers,
09:08right,
09:08we are,
09:10we have customers,
09:11we are humans,
09:11they want to be served,
09:13we are the same way that we serve,
09:15and humans can be served on brands,
09:17but it's really important,
09:19for us to understand,
09:20that we're doing things,
09:21and you can't sign everybody,
09:23just in your own personal life,
09:24you just can't.
09:26And so,
09:26so when you speak about,
09:29realities,
09:31what is something easy,
09:33if you feel that you're not,
09:35just in practice,
09:36when you feel that you're just not okay,
09:38because this,
09:39you see me live all the time,
09:40always happens to me,
09:41really often,
09:43I cry like every other Tuesday,
09:44I'll be like,
09:45I'm not supposed to say that,
09:47I'm not supposed to say that,
09:48I'm not supposed to say that,
09:49I'm going to cry,
09:50I don't enjoy yourself getting to cry,
09:52and I think the reality is,
09:54when you have,
09:55that I don't see,
09:56oh,
09:56behind your name,
09:58because it comes with,
09:59a lot of responsibility,
10:00you have,
10:01you know,
10:01all these people,
10:02who are looking to you,
10:03and who are inspired by you,
10:04you have your team,
10:06you know,
10:06you're leading,
10:07and sometimes,
10:07you're leading you,
10:08you have your customers,
10:10and so I think,
10:11it is a requirement,
10:13for you to take a sit back,
10:15and say,
10:15okay,
10:16because in my life,
10:16you want to be,
10:17my best,
10:19and be okay with me,
10:20so that you can,
10:21let the people around you know,
10:22that hey,
10:24I may not be able to show up,
10:25the way you want me to show up,
10:27but this is what I can do,
10:29so when I know,
10:31that I am not 100%,
10:33number one,
10:34I take a pause,
10:35I take this pause,
10:37and I say,
10:37it's okay to feel,
10:38however you're feeling,
10:39and I acknowledge it,
10:41then I journal,
10:42then I take it,
10:42and I figure out,
10:43like,
10:44how they can,
10:45or tell me,
10:45show me the food in my body,
10:47I meditate,
10:47I journal,
10:48I pull cards,
10:49I stare at the moon,
10:50I leave trees,
10:52like,
10:52I do all of the things,
10:54that make me feel cool,
10:55I go to nature,
10:57and then,
10:58I figure out,
10:59verify balance,
11:00or I'm going to see,
11:01a bunch of screen,
11:02and it's not one thing,
11:04for any particular day,
11:05but I know,
11:06that I have to focus on me,
11:08and at that point,
11:09Liffard has to take a back seat,
11:11you know,
11:11family and friends,
11:12have to take a back seat,
11:13my team,
11:14I have to take a back seat,
11:15because I have to focus on me,
11:17to make sure that,
11:18I'm ready to give you,
11:20the best of me,
11:21and that's how I use your life,
11:23and all the,
11:25all the,
11:25all the,
11:25all the services,
11:27um,
11:28I do a lot of work,
11:29and then,
11:30when I,
11:31when I'm in sleep,
11:32I do have such a therapy,
11:34I go to the chiropractor,
11:36I have,
11:37an essential therapy therapist,
11:39I have,
11:40a clinical therapist,
11:42I have,
11:43um,
11:44a good client,
11:46um,
11:47I'm not the best internally,
11:49but I do know how to sit down,
11:51and meditate,
11:53and it's called,
11:55meditation,
11:56which is G-O-N-G,
11:58because it's easier to meditate,
11:59the means,
12:00okay,
12:00my brain works,
12:01like,
12:01I'm still thinking,
12:02when I'm meditating,
12:03and I'm not getting any questions,
12:05but,
12:05you know,
12:06and I just try to remember,
12:09especially if you're like,
12:10Melissa and I both,
12:12technically live on your place,
12:14and so,
12:17you know,
12:17you know,
12:18a lot of people don't talk about,
12:20what does that mean to you,
12:21a fatal plan,
12:22when you live this way,
12:23you know,
12:24like,
12:24I'm just learning about yourself,
12:26you know,
12:27I don't see a functional doctor,
12:30because,
12:31you know,
12:31they look at you as a being,
12:33not necessarily comparing you to,
12:36you know,
12:36however the medical industry appears to,
12:38you know,
12:39so I mean,
12:40I do a lot of things,
12:41um,
12:43I spend time with my partner,
12:45and I call you,
12:46you know,
12:47um,
12:47sometimes I'm just okay with things,
12:50and,
12:51this is a lot of things,
12:52being a shelter,
12:53it can be very,
12:54very,
12:55very,
12:55very,
12:56very long,
12:57because it's hard,
12:58to think of yourself,
13:01and to dance with everybody else,
13:03because,
13:05you know,
13:05I'm like,
13:07I'm a teacher in my business,
13:09I'm a leader in my family,
13:11I'm a leader in my relationships,
13:13and my friendships,
13:14and that is a lot,
13:15it's a really compartmentalizing,
13:18you know what,
13:19I just think I'm able to be the best friend,
13:22which is my new kids,
13:24and probably,
13:25I would be my mother,
13:26and I probably would call you the family,
13:28I would be as good as I would be,
13:30you know,
13:31um,
13:32and I'm just getting raised to myself,
13:34to accept,
13:36and,
13:36I love you,
13:38it's not something that you can only do it,
13:40you can only do,
13:41but one other thing I want to add,
13:43is,
13:44whenever I am feeling ill,
13:46I try to take stock of what I have said,
13:49you know,
13:50like,
13:50I have realized that,
13:52sugar,
13:53sugar brings me down,
13:56so like,
13:57remember I said,
13:58sometimes when I'm feeling depressed,
13:59I was too much ice cream,
14:00and it changes,
14:01and it makes me feel worse,
14:03because the reality is,
14:05in your body,
14:07it's craving more and more,
14:09without actually ever being exhausted,
14:12and sugar causes brain fog,
14:14it makes it much more difficult,
14:16for you to actually meditate,
14:18so when I don't really,
14:20try to like hangover something,
14:22I'll start working out more,
14:23I'll,
14:24I'll literally try to eat as clean as possible,
14:26because then I am able to do this,
14:29so I feel my strength,
14:31and my purpose,
14:32so that I can show it as the best of the person,
14:34and a lot of people don't necessarily realize,
14:37that if you're thinking you are,
14:38dealing with anxiety and depression,
14:42sometimes,
14:43people are dealing with anxiety and depression,
14:45sometimes,
14:46through hormones,
14:47it's just problems,
14:48sometimes,
14:51you can be eating gluten,
14:52and having a good analogy,
14:54and you can make it a good,
14:56sometimes,
14:57you can be eating dairy,
14:58but I just found out,
14:59I'm allergic to dairy,
15:01gluten,
15:02soy,
15:03sugar,
15:04but I'm a farmer allergic to it,
15:06but I can,
15:07I can eat it,
15:08I can eat it,
15:09so when you put your body,
15:11trying to process you,
15:13that you know,
15:13I'm used to eat,
15:14because when you're eating,
15:15your body turns against you,
15:17what you were just saying,
15:18being just trying to overcompensate,
15:20and you're like you were just saying,
15:22and it doesn't know how to,
15:23it doesn't know how to process it,
15:26so,
15:27literally,
15:27your body is trying to beat you,
15:30and when this happens,
15:31there's something,
15:32or it can be just,
15:34I'm just out of the line,
15:36oh no,
15:38and when you call that age,
15:39and when you call it,
15:40it's an incredibly long,
15:42this morning of vertebrae was off,
15:44and she causes anxiety and depression,
15:46and it's crazy,
15:49and it doesn't know how he is,
15:51and it's been called love in this society,
15:54and it's even making,
15:55he hasn't really had things in us,
15:58too,
15:58too long,
16:00to help,
16:00into our own history,
16:02or anything,
16:03because now,
16:04he had to dream,
16:05to love the world,
16:06as far as to take care of everybody else,
16:08and I would believe,
16:10that,
16:10that's what he's hearing in our system,
16:13you know,
16:13okay,
16:14I'll need to reverse it,
16:15through the facts that we're using,
16:18so,
16:18you know,
16:19here we are,
16:20up here,
16:20we're CEOs,
16:21and we have a very intentional discussion,
16:23about wellness,
16:25and it's because,
16:25like,

19:20I got my son full of your camera baby.
19:21It was disgusting and terrible.
19:23And I literally found a dream with my grandmother in the morning after a year of falling through this transition when my mother was very young, so my ancestor came to get a dream, and she had to get me some paper, and he had a list of ingredients on it, which is now what is on our normal watch.
19:40And she told me that all I needed to do was prepare her books on her paper, and I kept her painting it over and over again. And when I woke up, she was just talking to me now. When I woke up, I wrote it down, and literally, because I did a bacterial diagnosis at the time, it was the worst, and I had to work, because I worked the whole thing, and I bought all those ingredients, and I made myself a formula, and literally four or five days later did a bacterial diagnosis at the time.
20:10And I can't say that it is not a dream for you. I think my mother was a fairy. We are not here to do it, no sort.
