00:54France has become the first EU country to open a consulate general in nuke.
00:59New French Consul General Jean-Noël Poirier is tasked with deepening political,
01:04economic and cultural ties with Greenland.
01:07Poirier says France aims to better listen to Greenlanders.
01:10The French Consul General confirmed military cooperation is ongoing and will continue.
01:37U.S. President Donald Trump has previously claimed a U.S. control of Greenland
01:42was necessary for his country's security.
01:45We need it for international security.
01:47A high-profile Russian general and military intelligence official has been shot several times
01:57by an unidentified gunman in Moscow on Friday.
02:02Lieutenant General Vladimir Aleskayev was immediately taken to hospital
02:06after the attack in a residential building on the northwestern outskirts of the capital.
02:12According to the reports, the assailant fled the scene.
02:16Aleskayev's condition is unknown at this time,
02:19but he is said to have survived the shooting according to Russian media reports.
02:24Aleskayev is the first deputy head of the main directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces,
02:29the GRU.
02:31He has been the GRU number two since 2011.
02:33Aleskayev has also been accused by the U.K. and the EU of orchestrating the Novichok chemical weapons attack
02:41in Salisbury in 2018 that targeted Russian double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter.
02:52Oman mediated indirect talks on Friday between Iran and the United States over Tehran's nuclear program.
02:59The first such encounter since negotiations stalled after the U.S. conducted strikes on Iran's nuclear sites
03:06during Israel's 12-day conflict against the Islamic Republic last June.
03:11Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and U.S. Envoy Steve Witkoff met separately with Oman's Foreign Minister
03:17at a palace on the outskirts of the capital, Muscat.
03:20The meeting also came just weeks after a wave of anti-government protests across Iran,
03:26during which the U.S. threatened military action.
03:28The president has obviously been quite clear in his demands of the Iranian regime.
03:34Zero nuclear capability is something he's been very explicit about,
03:38and he wants to see if a deal can be struck.
03:41And while these negotiations are taking place, I would remind the Iranian regime
03:45that the president has many options at his disposal, aside from diplomacy,
03:50as the commander-in-chief of the most powerful military in the history of the world.
03:55The scope of the negotiations remains unclear, and there had been tensions in the run-up to the talks
04:00over whether the meeting should also address Tehran's support of proxies and its ballistic missile programs,
04:06two U.S. concerns that Iran resisted.
04:09With the American threats of military action still looming,
04:12the United States has maneuvered a naval group led by aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln into the region,
04:19while Iran has repeatedly vowed it will hit back at U.S. bases if attacked.
04:27Iran and the United States hold indirect talks over Tehran's nuclear program in Oman on Friday.
04:35Former commanding general of U.S. Army Europe Ben Hodges told Euronews
04:39he doesn't expect anything of real significance to come out of the talks.
04:44The Iranians are playing the game.
04:47They see that the U.S. president really does not want to do anything,
04:52and also that the Americans have not thought through what comes after a potential strike.
04:58I mean, we're good at the strike part, but we're not very good traditionally at figuring out what comes after that.
05:05Although the U.S. have built up capacity in the region,
05:08its regional allies are pushing against a strike as they would suffer from some of the Iranian retaliation, he says.
05:15He adds he's opposed to sending boots on the ground.
05:19The president and his administration have not prepared the American people for another war.
05:24I mean, he campaigned on no never-ending wars, you know,
05:29and in fact, the idea of going into Iran with troops would be, in my view, would be a disaster.
05:37I mean, you're talking about a very large country, and for what purpose?
05:41Previous rounds of meetings turned to ash following Israel's launch of a 12-day war against Iran back in June.
05:47TikTok's addictive design breaches EU's Digital Services Act and fails to adequately protect users,
05:58the European Commission said Friday in preliminary findings.
06:02TikTok reaches 170 million users in the European Union.
06:07Most of these are children, said the Commission,
06:09adding that the video app relies on addictive features such as infinite scroll,
06:14which continuously feeds users new content every time they refresh their screen.
06:20TikTok is by far the most used platform after midnight by children between 13 and 18.
06:287% of children between 12 and 15 spend between 4 and 5 hours daily on TikTok.
06:38These statistics are extremely alarming.
06:42Why is all of this happening?
06:44Because TikTok offers infinite scrolling, autoplay, push notifications,
06:51and highly personalized recommender systems.
06:54In an email, TikTok said the Commission's preliminary findings present
06:58a categorically false and entirely lessly meritless depiction of the platform.
07:03The findings are preliminary, meaning no fines or penalties have been imposed yet,
07:08and the investigation is ongoing.

08:42but officials announce it will go ahead as planned.
08:45Thousands from the Romanian education system dissatisfied with the austerity measures
08:52adopted by the government in the education sector have taken to the streets in protest.
08:58The demonstration comes as the coalition government,
09:00led by Prime Minister Ilie Bolujan,
09:03approved two packages of austerity measures to reduce the budget deficit as part of reforms.
09:08The measure specifically places a 10% cut on the salary fund of public institutions.
09:15Teachers have threatened to go on a general strike if the austerity measures are implemented by the government.

09:39The plan of financing education continues to pay for education,
09:43even though for a future country has to have more money in education.
09:48No one has ever been received.
09:49The money that they need to insist on paying for education,
09:52on reducing taxes.
09:54The superior education, along with pre-universitar,
09:57the past year has increased the norms,
09:59has taken some measures,
10:00and now comes and says that it is equal to zero,
10:03and it needs to be done again 10%.
10:05Demonstrators argue that the new decisions will affect the stocking conditions in schools and universities.
10:11The situation has also prompted conversations and comparisons with Ukraine,
10:16where the budget allocation for education has been increased.
10:19If a country in war increases the salaries of professors and students,
10:27what can any other country that is not in war?
10:32A country that understands that in the most complicated moment of their existence,
10:39they need to invest in those who can get the country from the situation in which they are.
10:45What explanation do we have when we tell them that those who produce the real knowledge,
10:52or do well with them, we have to pay them.
11:18Three trade union associations from the education sector are expected to announce
11:23whether there will be a strike in March or June later this month.
11:27Additionally, education unions have launched a petition campaign for a citizens' legislative initiative.
11:33The effort aims to repeal what the unions describe as anti-education measures adopted by the government.
11:38For the proposal to be submitted to the parliament, it requires at least 100,000 signatures.
