00:01On the eve of the fourth anniversary of Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine,
00:06the European Union has become effectively paralyzed by two back-to-back Hungarian vetoes.
00:12A €90 billion emergency loan for Kyiv and a new package of sanctions against Moscow
00:18are being held up by Budapest over an energy dispute involving the transit of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline.
00:25We shouldn't tie together things that are not connected to each other at all,
00:30but let's listen to them explaining what are the reasons why they are blocking
00:36and then see whether there are possibilities to overcome.
00:41The oil pipeline was recently damaged by an attack attributed to Russia,
00:46but Hungary has accused Ukraine of delaying repairs.
00:49Over the weekend, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced the suspension of Hungarian diesel exports to Ukraine.
00:56Kyiv has pushed back against what it calls blackmail and said repair works continue.
01:01A crisis meeting to resolve the dispute is scheduled for Wednesday.
01:05Croatia, whose Adriatic pipeline has emerged as a possible alternative, will also take part.
01:16The European Commission has called on Washington to honor its commitments and provide full clarity
01:22following a US Supreme Court ruling that struck down some of President Trump's most sweeping tariffs.
01:29Trump lashed out at the court decision and said on Saturday that he wants a global tariff of 15%,
01:35up from the 10% he announced a day earlier.
01:40The European Commission said the current situation is not conducive to delivering fair, balanced and mutually beneficial transatlantic trade and
01:49investment.
01:50The two sides sealed a trade deal in August last year that imposes a 15% tax on 70%
01:57of European goods exported to the United States.
02:01A deal is a deal, the European Commission said.
02:04EU products must continue to benefit from the most competitive treatment
02:09with no increases in tariffs beyond the clear and all-inclusive ceiling previously agreed, the Commission added.
02:16The value of EU-US trade in goods and services amounted to 1.7 trillion euros in 2024.
02:28Violence erupted across Mexico on Sunday after security forces killed El Mencho,
02:34notorious leader of the powerful Jalisco New Generation cartel.
02:38The death of the drug lord, whose real name is Nemesio Ruben Oseguera Cervantes,
02:44was met with a forceful reaction from the cartel,
02:47who blocked roads and burned cars at more than 250 points in 20 Mexican states, according to authorities.
02:55Jalisco's capital, Guadalajara, was turned into a ghost town Sunday night as civilians hunkered down,
03:01and school was canceled Monday in several states.
03:04Authorities in Jalisco, Michoacan and Guanajuato reported at least 14 dead, including seven National Guard troops.
03:13During the operation, troops came under fire and killed four people at the location.
03:18Three more people, including Oseguera Cervantes, were wounded and later died, a statement read.
03:23The U.S. State Department had offered a reward of up to $15 million for information leading to the arrest
03:31of El Mencho.
03:32The Jalisco New Generation cartel is one of the most powerful and fastest-growing criminal organizations in Mexico,
03:39and began operating around 2009.
03:42In February 2025, the Trump administration designated the cartel as a foreign terrorist organization.
03:51The United States and Iran will hold their next round of nuclear talks on Thursday in Geneva,
03:58facilitator Oman confirmed on Sunday, signaling hope for progress despite U.S. military build-up and renewed protests in Tehran.
04:07Oman previously hosted the indirect talks on the Islamic Republic's nuclear program
04:12and facilitated the latest round in Geneva last week.
04:16Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arachi told U.S. media there was a good chance for a diplomatic solution,
04:23with Iran working on a draft proposal for an agreement that would avert military action.
04:29The latest development comes as U.S. threats of military action have multiplied
04:33since the nationwide protest movement in Iran sparked a crackdown that rights groups say killed thousands.
04:40On Sunday, Iranian students gathered for fresh pro- and anti-government rallies,
04:45commemorating those killed following similar gatherings the day before.
04:50U.S. President Donald Trump warned on Friday that limited strikes against Iran are possible,
04:54and both Iran and the U.S. have signaled they are prepared for war if the talks on Tehran's nuclear
05:01program fail.
05:09Vacant commercial premises on St. Petersburg's Main Street's Nevsky Prospect are one sign of growing problems in the Russian economy
05:18as the war against Ukraine enters its fourth year.
05:21Against a backdrop of budget deficits and declining oil revenues,
05:26the Kremlin has turned to consumers and small businesses for funds.
05:30At the same time, the ban on social media and messaging apps deprives private businesses of cheap advertising
05:36and simple ways to attract customers.
06:03According to estimates by the Association of Beauty Industry Enterprises,
06:07about 10% of companies in the St. Petersburg's market have closed,
06:12and another 10% sold their businesses in December and January.
06:16Business, from the transition to new systems,
06:19the investment systems, no need to be affected.
06:22I promise you that this question will be addressed before the government.
06:28Small and medium-sized enterprises account for just over 20% of the Russian economy,
06:34but this is still a significant share.
06:36Extending VAT to these companies will bring a tangible amount of money into the state budget.
06:42What President Putin has said is that when the economy returns to normal or when the budget returns to normal,
06:49then they will look to reduce the VAT rate back to 20%.
06:56But there appears to be no discussion about returning to the situation where small businesses did not have to deal
07:04with VAT.
07:06I think that's now a permanent change, whatever the rate.
07:09Small and medium-sized enterprises have been under pressure since 2014,
07:14when Russia faced sanctions for its illegal annexation of the Crimean Peninsula,
07:18and the government directed most of its support to large companies.
07:25One battle after another took six top prizes at the British Academy Film Awards on Sunday.
07:33The thriller about a group of revolutionaries starring Leonardo DiCaprio won awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay,
07:43Cinematography, Editing, and a Supporting Actor Award for Sean Penn.
07:46Anybody that says movies aren't any good anymore just can piss right off because this is a great year.
07:55I want to say thank you, and I know that there's a bar somewhere. I think we should all go
08:00there.
08:00It's been a long evening, but we have so much to celebrate.
08:03We have a line from Nina Simone that we stole in our film.
08:06She says, I know what freedom is. It's no fear. So let's keep making things without fear. It's a good
08:12idea.
08:13See you at the bar. Thank you. Thank you.
08:15The Best Leading Actress Award went to Jessie Buckley for her performance in Hamnet
08:20as the grieving mother Agnes Hathaway and wife of William Shakespeare.
08:25She made history as the first Irish performer to win a Best Actress Prize at the BAFTAs.
08:33In a surprise win, British actor Robert Aramayo took home the award for Best Actor for his performance in I
08:39Swear,
08:40a fact-based British indie drama about a campaigner for people with Tourette's Syndrome.
08:45He called the victory over major contenders Ethan Hawke, Michael B. Jordan, Leonardo DiCaprio and Timothee Chalamet.
08:55I absolutely can't believe this. I can't believe that I'm looking at people like you.
08:59And I'm in the same category of you. Never mind that I'm studying.
09:05Wow, oh my word.
09:07Period. Vampire epic Sinners received three awards, including Best Supporting Actress for Woonmi Mosaku,
09:14while table tennis drama Marty Supreme failed to take any prizes.
09:31When I sit down to write a book, I write it because there is some lie that I want to
09:37expose.
09:38Again, how many fingers?
09:40My starting point is always a feeling of injustice.
09:45The very concept of objective truth is fading out of this world.
09:50I'm going to set down what I dare not say aloud to anyone.
09:54This prospect frightens me much more than bombs.
09:58Democracy, freedom, justice have each of them several different meanings,
10:04which cannot be reconciled with one another.
10:09It's about cinema. Cinema is about emotion.
10:13And it's one of the tools that I use. I use everything, music, images, graphic,
10:19to make sure that, you know, you are not only in the presence of just thoughts,
10:26but also of emotion, of thinking, of exchanges, of collective community.
10:32When I started in cinema, even before, you know, it was like you couldn't mix any political ambition with art.
10:43You know, art was supposed to be something special, something pure.
10:48The same thing with entertainment. Everything became entertainment.
10:52Even news became entertainment.
10:54So, but I never believed that it's not because it's entertainment that you can't put, you know, more weight in
11:03terms of the content.
11:06And you will find a form to make it, you know, cinema in my case.
11:10And I always believed that, for me, filmmaking is a political, I would say, I had always a political intention
11:22in making my films.
11:25Militaryism, if not fought against, could triumph anywhere.
11:31Do you begin to see them?
11:36What kind of world we are creating?
