00:00Oh sure, we're counting down the hours until the Super Bowl, but before that, a little
00:08bit of a distraction, because a global sporting event begins today, the Olympics!
00:17USA!
00:18USA!
00:20USA!
00:21Woo!
00:22All right, opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics begins at 2 p.m. Eastern Time.
00:27I kind of thought it was happening tonight.
00:30Me too.
00:31Oh, yeah.
00:312 p.m. Eastern Time, kicking off the official start of the Games, even though a whole bunch
00:36of sports have already started.
00:37Okay, yeah, because they're ahead of us, so it would be Friday night there.
00:41Yeah, Friday afternoon here.
00:42This is always the hardest part when it comes to the Olympics being anywhere far away.
00:46You're like, well, this is great.
00:48I can't wait to watch curling at 3 in the morning.
00:50I know.
00:50Or whatever it is.
00:51I know, but you can stream whenever and all the things.
00:54But I've got some interesting Olympic facts that you'll want to know going into this Olympic
01:02Games, okay?
01:03This is the first time that two cities have co-hosted the Olympics.
01:06Did you know that it's in two cities?
01:08Nope.
01:08No.
01:08It's in Milan and Cortina.
01:12So those are two cities in Italy that are about 250 miles apart.
01:16It's a five-hour drive.
01:19Oh, wow.
01:20This will be the most widespread games in Olympic history because the 13 venues cover nearly
01:268,500 square miles of Northern Italy.
01:30Oh, my gosh.
01:32Wow.
01:33They are all over the place.
01:34Yeah.
01:35Yeah.
01:35So at the Games, athletes compete for National Olympic Committees or NOCs.
01:42Do you know what those are?
01:44No.
01:45So those are not countries.
01:47So that's why places like Puerto Rico and Hong Kong can have Olympic teams.
01:54Oh, okay.
01:55Because they're playing for National Olympic Committees.
01:58Got it.
01:59Not a country.
02:00All right?
02:01There are 92 NOCs representing over 2,900 athletes in the Olympics.
02:08Wow.
02:08So you're going to see a lot of NOCs.
02:10Yeah.
02:10Now, athletes from Russia and Belarus will be competing as individual neutral athletes
02:16or AINs under a neutral flag since those countries were banned over the war in Ukraine.
02:23Okay.
02:23Backing up, though, does that mean we can start our own NOC?
02:27Yep.
02:28Our own NOC.
02:28The Andy Summershow NOC.
02:30Yeah.
02:31All right.
02:31And I think we should.
02:32Dibs curling.
02:34Andy, you have to do all the things that are on skis.
02:35I can do the skis.
02:36Donnie, what are you bringing to the table for our team?
02:38Eating competition.
02:39No.
02:40Eating snow.
02:41Yeah.
02:41I'm going to go with bobsledding.
02:43Bobsled?
02:44Yeah.
02:44Bobsledding.
02:45Guys, what do I, what is it?
02:46Oh, speed skating.
02:48Yes.
02:49There you go.
02:49I think my height would factor into that.
02:53All right.
02:53So I want you to think about us while you're watching these sports and think about how well
02:57we might be doing or not doing.
02:58All right.
02:59The U.S. team is the biggest team.
03:04235 athletes on Team USA.
03:06Wow.
03:06Including three alternates.
03:07Canada is second with 211, followed by Italy with 195.
03:12Wow.
03:12So like we have everybody beat by a lot.
03:15Included in Team USA, 98 returning Olympians.
03:20Wow.
03:20They've won a total of 22 gold medals.
03:23Yes.
03:23Incredible.
03:24I mean, we've got a pretty strong team heading in there.
03:27It'll be the fifth Olympic Games for seven of them, including Lindsey Vaughn.
03:33We know she's an Alpine skier.
03:35Figure skater Evan Bates and hockey player Hillary Knight.
03:38Very interesting.
03:39Yes.
03:39Can I tell you guys a fun fact I learned about speed skating?
03:42Okay.
03:42So there is an Olympian for the United States, former, who won a silver in speed skating and
03:49then won a silver in baseball.
03:52Wow.
03:53Isn't that just so interesting?
03:55His name is Eddie Alvarez.
03:56He won a medal.
03:57Yeah.
03:58For the Olympics in two different sports that are that different.
04:01Two very different sports.
04:03Yeah.
04:03Like it's one thing to be like snowboarding and skateboarding or you know what I mean?
04:06And they're like certain types of skiing and a different type of skiing.
04:09Yeah.
04:09This is completely different.
04:11Yeah.
04:11Isn't that me?
04:12That is really interesting.
04:13So interesting.
04:14Yeah.
04:14I love that.
04:15I love knowing that.
04:15But I mean, when you look at, when you think about professional athletes.
04:19Yeah.
04:20Who oftentimes started in when they were young and then in school playing one sport and
04:25then kind of got plucked out to do another sport.
04:28Right.
04:28They're just elite athletes.
04:30Thousand percent.
04:31Right.
04:31Which is why you don't want to be a one trick pony.
