00:00Public health experts warn the Philippines is lagging behind its regional peers in addressing the growing obesity and diabetes crisis as health messaging and policies have failed to keep pace with modern sedentary lifestyles.
00:13This as terzepatide, a new dual hormone treatment for obesity and type 2 diabetes, becomes available locally, offering significant weight loss and improved blood sugar control based on international trials.
00:26With more than 4 million Filipinos living with diabetes and heart disease remaining the leading cause of death, experts stress the urgency of more effective interventions.
00:36They emphasize that while new medications are promising, meaningful progress will require coordinated national strategies on food systems, urban planning and health care access.
