00:00In other news with impeachment clouds gathering on the horizon, Senate President Vicente Soto III says the Senate is already getting all its ducks in a row.
00:10As talk of a possible trial against Vice President Sara Duterte heats up, Soto stresses that preparedness, not titles, will be the name of the game.
00:20Gav Villegas tells us more.
00:21Senate President Vicente Soto III is preparing as presiding officer for the possible impeachment procedure against Vice President Sara Duterte.
00:32According to Soto, he has been briefed by two members of the Court of Appeals and the Court of Tax Appeals, which started two weeks ago on how to be a presiding officer in the impeachment court.
00:43I would want to concentrate on how to be the presiding officer of an impeachment court pagdating sa rules of evidence at saka sa rules on criminal procedures.
00:56Kailangan maliwanag ang pananaw mo sa rules of evidence dahil maraming magagaling na abugadong magpapasa ng kung ano-ano sa'yo at sa court.
01:07The Senate is ready and the approved rules of impeachment still remain but need to be ratified again upon receipt of a copy of the articles of impeachment.
01:16The senator also said he and all his peers must be ready for whoever is the presiding officer of the impeachment court.
01:24Kailangan as a senator, alam mo din dapat yung mga rules.
01:28As a senator, you must be aware of whether you're a lawyer or not.
01:33You must be aware of what is acceptable in the rules of evidence.
01:39Yung mga ganun.
01:40Kaya kahit regular senator ka lang, you must prepare in case.
01:45In case there is an article of impeachment that reaches us.
01:49Soto sees no difference if he being officer of the impeachment court.
01:54If so, he would be the first presiding officer of the impeachment court who is not a lawyer.
01:59In retrospect, Supreme Court Chief Justice Hilario Davide was the presiding officer in the impeachment trial against then President Joseph Estrada.
02:08And Juan Ponce Enrile was the presiding officer in the impeachment trial of then Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona.
02:14To ensure the Senate's work as a legislative body continues, the senator is proposing a working schedule to his colleagues once the impeachment trial starts.
02:23Ang isa-suggest ko sa aming mga kasama, and I'm sure papayag naman sila, is pag umaga, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, ang Senate legislative work, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
02:39Ganun din naman yung Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday namin talaga.
02:43And then most probably, I will suggest that we do Monday to Friday from 3 p.m. up sa impeachment court.
02:50Di pwedeng patagalin yan. Kailangan yan as soon as possible, the fastest way possible.
