00:29We got a shot to fire, man.
00:33Location.
00:35I need a racetrack.
00:36Start me some units.
00:39Come on, start me some units.
00:44Come on, let's go.
00:45Let's roll.
00:47All units staged on me at the...
00:49Observe four subjects in the area.
00:53They possibly aren't.
00:54I'm going to stand by.
00:57All four units with a racetrack.
00:59Turn to the office.
01:00No.
01:02420, we 10-4.
01:03We're in route.
01:0410-4.
01:12We got a victim yet, right?
01:14No, we don't.
01:16We got about eight, nine-millimeter showcases.
01:19We got some clothing,
01:20and then we got a blister pack of some narcotics,
01:22like some pills over there.
01:25Let's call before for right now.
01:27Can you keep us updated?
01:28If you get any calls for a gunshot victim.
01:32Careful.
01:35Now, we're wondering what it is.
01:36Please, please, please, please, please, please, please.
01:43Please, please, please, please, please.
01:45Send the police.
01:46Please.
01:47Just send the police.
01:49I do have this gent over to the driveway.
01:52Please, don't hurry up.
01:53What you got going on?
01:58It's inside of this vehicle.
02:00They got a battery.
02:01It's inside of here.
02:02Whoa.
02:03Don't touch the car.
02:04Don't touch the car.
02:05Whoa.
02:07I'm going to have all of these.
02:09Don't have all of these.
02:09Yes, I am.
02:10No.
02:10Please, please.
02:12We can't.
02:12No, we can't.
02:14Please.
02:14I have a deceased male victim in his 20s.
02:41From what I know so far, somebody ambush style started shooting at him, hit him, and the
02:51person he was with drove back here.
02:54I'm not sure if it's his residence or what.
02:58We got to get out, bro.
03:01Bro, that's my partner, bro.
03:04That's my partner, bro.
03:06Man, bro.
03:08Let me see.
03:09Hey, we got the person that was in the car with him, in the back of the car?
03:14It's like the means of other sort.
03:16Okay.
03:17Want to take it to the 4th District?
03:18I'll let him in.
03:19Okay.
03:22The scene is chaotic.
03:23There's people screaming, trying to get to the body.
03:26Of course, they're shocked.
03:27They see their loved one is shot in the head.
03:29In the passenger seat of the vehicle, we learned that the surviving victim was the driver of
03:35the vehicle and drove the victim to the residence after the shooting.
03:40The actual shooting happened at a restaurant parking lot, which is probably five or ten minutes
03:45away.
03:48At this point, we're going to take the surviving victim back to the 4th District station for
03:52questioning.
03:52When I arrive on scene, the victim has been taken from the scene by the coroner's office.
04:06I learned that the victim's name was Malcolm Solomon.
04:09He was 22 years old and a New Orleans native.
04:13His friends and family called him Paul.
04:14I was told there was a police officer in the gas station on the opposite side of the restaurant
04:23where the shooting took place.
04:25That officer heard the gunshots, so he called them out on the radio, and then he made his
04:32way over there.
04:33By the time he got there, the perpetrators had fled, and the surviving victim had left in
04:38her car with the deceased victim.
04:40Once they got to his house, the call was made to 911 that there was a shot person there,
04:46and then it was pretty easy to connect the two.
04:51When I got over there, somebody jumped out the dumpster and went around the dumpster and
04:56started shooting.
04:57Everybody would talk to.
04:58That's the girl that was with him in the truck.
05:01Okay.
05:02Go talk to her and see what she says.
05:05Being that this was a secondary scene, there's not a lot going on here.
05:10Usually we have casings to pick up, surveillance footage to download.
05:14For this scene, we don't have any of that, which is good because we can, you know, leave
05:18the family members to grieve and come talk to them at a later point.
05:24Myself and Detective Ray L. Johnson are going to the 4th District Station to interview the
05:30surviving victim.
05:30We're done collecting over here.
05:36I think we're just getting the last minute information from the owner.
05:41Have Wayne get a number for me so I can try to get some footage.
05:45I'm at the 4th District now.
05:46We're about to talk to somebody that was with him, apparently.
05:50I'm having Detective Wayne Lewis follow up with the owner of the restaurant to see if
05:54there's any surveillance footage that captured the incident so that we can get a better
05:58idea of what happened to Malcolm.
05:59They're so bad.
06:04They're so bad.
06:06They're so bad.
06:08Hey, how you doing?
06:10Ooh, he's been my friend.
06:13They have no reason to do him bad.
06:16Breathe for me, okay?
06:18Breathe in.
06:21Breathe for me so we can talk, okay?
06:23Okay.
06:23We got to find out exactly what happened, so just try to calm down for us real quick
06:28because we don't want to keep you in here all night, okay?
06:31We was trying to cop some weed.
06:33We was supposed to give this with me, boys, and they was supposed to give us the weed.
06:38I got out of the car and I went in the passenger side and his car.
06:43When I went to get them the money for the weed, bro, that's when two other dudes came
06:48from right behind a trash can and they just pulled guns up.
06:53To me, when I gave him my money, the other one opened the car door.
06:59I was going and said, get out.
07:01I wasn't trying to live without my money because I didn't have the weed, bro.
07:06So I was like, man, I'm trying to get out with my money.
07:09I'm trying to grab my money, too.
07:11He just got the gun and he started shooting.
07:15And when he started shooting, Paul never got out of the car, bro.
07:22The surviving victim has probably been through one of the most traumatic experiences she's
07:28been in her entire life.
07:30It was apparent very quickly that she was there to tell us what happened and she wanted
07:34to get justice for Malcolm.
07:44Do you know these guys?
07:45She actually shows us a text message that the perpetrator had texted her.
07:59It says, red Nissan SUV.
08:01So we know that we're looking for a red Nissan SUV.
08:04It was three people in that car.
08:07So if you could describe the one who...
08:09I know exactly how the one that was...
08:12And the driver's side, the one that I was giving them, gave the money to.
08:16Okay, describe.
08:17He was dark-skinned.
08:18He was tall.
08:19He looked like he was like 18, 19, bro.
08:23Yeah.
08:23He had, like, twists, but he had a ski mask, but his ski mask wasn't down.
08:29That's why I didn't even think nothing of it either.
08:31His ski mask was lifted up on his hair.
08:33Like, the other dude that opened the car on me, he was red.
08:38He had a bush.
08:39He had a red hoodie on.
08:41The other dude, I'm not gonna lie.
08:42I didn't see the other dude that good.
08:44Okay.
08:46Let's check out real quick.
08:48We'll be right back with you, okay?
08:49Okay.
08:53Hey, you can check a number for us right quick.
08:56Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
08:58We took the phone number that she gave us, entered it into a law enforcement database.
09:09Oh, Kimoni Johnson.
09:12And she just described him like that, too.
09:14Yeah.
09:15I should do a lineup, though.
09:16Yeah, do a lineup.
09:17That's her.
09:17Yeah.
09:18We're going to make a six-pack photographic lineup and have another detective show it to her
09:26to see if she will pick out Kimoni Johnson as the driver.
09:33Detective Wayne Lewis came to the 4th District Station after looking at the footage from the
09:38restaurant parking lot, and he told us what he saw.
09:40We know the surviving victim statements are pretty accurate because Detective Lewis was
10:07able to tell on the surveillance footage that the perpetrators did show up in a red SUV.
10:14Then two people get out of that car from the rear driver's side and the front passenger's
10:19side, and those two people walk off camera in the direction of the dumpster.
10:26The surviving victim pulls into the spot right next to them on their passenger's side.
10:30The surviving victim gets out of her car, walks around the front of her car, gets in the
10:39passenger's side of the perpetrator's car.
10:43There was an exchange of money, and then as she's seated in the perpetrator's vehicle,
10:49roughly a minute passes.
10:50When the two people that were hiding by the dumpster approach the back of the car, one
10:56person goes and opens her door and began to rob her.
11:00She tried to take her money back.
11:03The surviving victim runs around the front of her car.
11:06One of the two started shooting at her, and in turn, Malcolm gets shot as he's seated in the
11:13front passenger's seat of her car.
11:16From what we have right now, we can't identify a license plate, but it corroborates her story
11:21as far as the timeline of events.
11:24Now I want to show the surviving victim a lineup.
11:28Being in a traumatic incident like that, I wanted to get her to look at it as quick as possible,
11:33because that face is still fresh in her mind.
11:35That looks like the driver, the one that, that when I got in the car, the dark-skinned one,
11:59they had the ski masks up.
12:05That face was smooth, just like the students that got in the car, it was just one person.
12:34When I got in the car, I just see him.
12:36That looks like the person that was here.
12:38Okay.
12:40The surviving witness identified the suspect as Kamani Johnson
12:47and said, that looks like the driver.
12:50Pretty excited that she picked him out.
12:53This essentially is going to be enough for me to get an arrest warrant for Kamani.
12:59Hello.
13:00Good morning. Do you want to sign an arrest warrant?
13:03Let me back up.
13:04We talked to a witness who gave us a number of the person she was going to meet.
13:10She identified him as the person that she met up with.
13:14Wow. What was the motive?
13:16It was a robbery. The motive was a robbery.
13:18The person that they ID'd, is that the shooter?
13:21He was the driver of the perp vehicle.
13:25We have at least two shooters, three suspects.
13:27Awesome. Yeah.
13:29That's great. Great job.
13:32At this point, we're two hours into the investigation, maybe three, and we already have one of our prime suspects identified.
13:39But there's three perpetrators, and they would all be culpable for the death of Malcolm.
13:49I was able to get search warrants for the phone number that was registered to Kamani Johnson.
13:54So hopefully, we're able to get better video footage after the sun comes up, and get a better view of what actually took place.
14:00On a late night, early morning investigation, I'll be able to go home, decompress, change clothes, shower,
14:28maybe get a couple hours of sleep, and then come back early in the morning when business is open,
14:34and start back with the investigation.
14:45We're looking for a small red Nissan SUV, may or may not have ballistic damage.
14:51It appeared to be a narcotics transaction that turned into a robbery.
14:57The female victim told us all she had was $50.
15:01It's crazy.
15:03Stupid.
15:05I sent the warrant to Val's.
15:07I would imagine they'll be up on him pretty quick.
15:09Yeah.
15:12I was able to talk to Malcolm's mother.
15:16She was handling it a lot better than expected.
15:18Everything that we've uncovered so far, he wasn't involved in the robbery.
15:24He was sitting in the car the whole time.
15:28Malcolm Solomon didn't get out of the vehicle.
15:30He was seated in the passenger side.
15:32It's just sad.
15:34I really don't know why they shot him.
15:36It's messed up that the innocent person got killed.
15:39Yeah, he was just chilling.
15:40So, the perp car was back then right here, right?
15:49The perp car was back then there.
15:50It's one of these three spots.
15:54They jump around a little bit.
15:55Like, it backs it over here, and then it comes over here,
15:58and then it goes back over there.
16:00And then when they finally pull up, it's in that second spot.
16:04Okay.
16:05She pulls up right next to it.
16:06Mm-hmm.
16:08Did you see where the casings were?
16:09Like, I know there was three groups.
16:11There was casings there, there was casings over here,
16:14and then there was more casings.
16:15How far back?
16:18The placement of the casings is significant because it may be able to tell me
16:23who was standing where when the gunshots were going off.
16:27Where the car went?
16:28The car went around the epic center.
16:30Oh, okay.
16:31Trying to get away with it.
16:32It's over here where this black car is.
16:35Really?
16:36Damn.
16:37So, there's probably them busting back at her.
16:39Yeah, so they're shooting back at her.
16:41There's two groups of 9mm casings, and there's one .40 caliber casing.
16:46So, it appears likely that there's going to be three guns involved.
16:49The car, it pulls in here, it stops, they get in.
16:52And then it goes around.
16:53And then it goes around.
16:54I want to go over to the next door and see if that's got audio.
16:59It's a storage facility.
17:01Looks like a decent camera.
17:04We know the surviving victim statements are pretty accurate,
17:07but the more angles that can tell us what happened is a good step in the right direction
17:12to be able to explain everything.
17:15How are you doing?
17:16Detective Johnson, Detective Deesburg.
17:18How are you all?
17:20We investigating the incident that happened over there.
17:22We saw you had a camera on the little back side back there.
17:25Do they have audio or no?
17:27No.
17:29It was 10.50 on Saturday night.
17:33Oh, there we go.
17:34Nice.
17:34That's, okay, that's them coming in.
17:36Yeah.
17:36Oh, yeah, that's going to be perfect.
17:39Look, it got a plate on it, huh?
17:41It does, yeah.
17:42It looked like it.
17:45That's one getting out.
17:48Two getting out.
17:53He starts it up and pulls over here.
17:54Mm-hmm.
17:56Shortly after, the surviving victim pulls into the spot right next to them on their passenger side.
18:01You can see shapes.
18:02You can see the cars really well, but it's pretty dark.
18:06The surviving victim told me she gets out of her car, gets in the perpetrator's car.
18:13All right, so now they're coming up.
18:15So that's the perpetrator.
18:18That's the dude in the red hoodie.
18:20He opens the door.
18:21Gun on her.
18:27Wow.
18:28That's the shot to his forehead.
18:32Yeah, she just ducked off to take cover.
18:34Mm-hmm.
18:35It's kind of shocking to actually see what occurred.
18:39Two other armed individuals creep from around the corner,
18:43and it looks like they're trying to rob the surviving victim.
18:48But at some point, they just shoot.
18:50And our surviving victim is ducking and running, trying not to get shot.
18:55Malcolm Solomon.
18:56The victim was just seated in the passenger seat.
18:58He didn't do anything.
18:59He never got off the car.
19:01I honestly don't even think he saw it coming.
19:04It looks like the suspect that approached the passenger side of the car first
19:08is the one who fired the shot that killed Malcolm.
19:13Don't.
19:16Don't.
19:20You.
19:21Good morning.
19:44Good morning, good morning.
19:45So Commander Johnson, the person that's
19:47wanted for a homicide over the weekend,
19:49was located here by the U.S. Marshals this morning.
19:52They transported him and one other person
19:54to Detective Bureau.
19:56Detective Deesburg and Rael over there right now
19:59are questioning them.
20:00We're going to go inside and search
20:01and see if we can find any weapons or the clothing
20:04that they were wearing.
20:04Great. That's wonderful.
20:06All right, good deal.
20:06All right.
20:07Myself and Rael decide to talk to Kamani first
20:22because he is the one that's under arrest
20:25for a second-degree murder.
20:26All right, my name is Detective Deesburg.
20:28Hey, you know what I'm saying?
20:28My partner is Detective Johnson.
20:30Hey, no, I ain't doing what I'm saying.
20:31Come on, you kill us.
20:32Come on, you didn't seem surprised or worried
20:36about anything, really.
20:39Where were you at Saturday night?
20:42Saturday night.
20:45This afternoon.
20:46Yeah, this past Saturday, the 26th.
20:49At home.
20:50What's your phone number?
20:51That's the only phone you had?
20:59Yeah.
20:59I got an arrest warrant for you, obviously.
21:02Oh, yeah, they told me that.
21:04For the homicide.
21:05All right.
21:05So Saturday night, let's start again with where you were.
21:11Because I work for New Orleans, right?
21:12Yeah, they told me that.
21:13I know you weren't home.
21:15What?
21:16At my house?
21:16Mm-hmm.
21:17I wouldn't be here if you were home.
21:19Yeah, I see what y'all are saying.
21:21But I don't leave the house.
21:23My brother don't even let me go out past 11.
21:25She'd be crying about that.
21:26And if I go out, I'd be locked up.
21:27Where were you at before 11?
21:28And I stay home.
21:30So if somebody said they saw you, they would be totally incorrect.
21:34Somebody said they saw me where?
21:36The mall?
21:37No, at .
21:37If somebody said they saw me at .
21:40They have hellerone.
21:42Hellerone.
21:43For sure, 100%.
21:44Not a lot of people that look like you.
21:46I'm 6'5".
21:47That's true.
21:48Exactly, bro.
21:48I'm 6'5".
21:49Well, if you've seen me at ,, bro, you're going to notice me.
21:52Mm-hmm.
21:52Kimani tells me his name.
21:55He gives me a phone number for him, which is not the phone number that I already have for him.
22:01I have him ID'd out of a photo lineup.
22:04That's just like the draw of the dark-skinned one that had to ski masks up.
22:10So he's the alleged perpetrator.
22:14I'm not going to sit there and beg him for information.
22:18Do you know him?
22:19Who?
22:20Ray Ray.
22:21Ray?
22:22Who are my brothers?
22:23Hello, brothers?
22:24Hello, brothers.
22:25Gotcha.
22:26We'll, uh, see how it goes for you.
22:29So the person that was in the same apartment as Kimani, his name is Gregory Jones.
22:58Me and Deesburg, we asked him the same questions that we asked Kimani.
23:03Where were you at Saturday night?
23:06Saturday night.
23:09Inside.
23:10Inside.
23:11My grandmother.
23:12Cool.
23:14Gregory has given us a similar story that Kimani told us.
23:17Gregory states that he was home at the time of the murder because his grandmother gives him a curfew of 11 o'clock.
23:23We investigated the homicide that happened on Saturday.
23:26I don't be as honest as I can with you.
23:28And I'm asking you the question where you were.
23:30But I need you to be 100% sure about what you tell me next.
23:33So don't get caught up in some that you may not want to be a part of.
23:36Okay?
23:37So I want to give you another opportunity to explain about Saturday night.
23:41Saturday night?
23:43Inside?
23:44That's it?
23:44My grandmother.
23:45Mm-hmm.
23:47Do you have any flag on?
23:49You don't have a gun?
23:51Okay.
23:51We're not going to find any guns in the house.
23:55Gregory Jones is held in the custody of the sheriff's office pending the results of the search warrant.
24:02We have in the closet, on the top shelf, in a, like, purse, two guns, one with an extended magazine, .40 caliber, and then a 9mm glocks.
24:17That's what we have on scene.
24:19And then two magazines upstairs.
24:22During the search, unfortunately we didn't find any cell phones, but it's a very exciting find.
24:28Two guns that match the crime scene in the house.
24:31So now I'm looking more at Gregory as potentially being a co-perpetrator.
24:40Today we were expecting to find Kamani Johnson, but we were not expecting to find Gregory Jones or anybody else that matched the descriptions given by the surviving witness.
24:50The other dude that opened the car on me, he was red.
24:54He had a bush.
24:55We talked to JP Deputy.
24:58I asked him to hold Gregory until we got done here to see what we got.
25:01Okay, well, go to the bureau, call NCIC, find out if the guns are stolen.
25:06Okay, good.
25:12Calling NCIC when we find guns is part of our procedure.
25:16We have to know if they're stolen or if they're not.
25:18Got two guns.
25:20Both calibers match the crime scene.
25:24But right now I don't have much to charge Gregory Jones with.
25:28So running these guns to see if they're stolen can help me lock him down so that I can further investigate Gregory Jones as a potential suspect in this case.
25:38That way we can charge him hopefully while he's still in jail and we don't have to go look for him again.
25:43Right.
25:44One of the guns did come back stolen.
25:45So Gregory is getting booked on that.
25:46So he'll be in jail for a while.
25:47Right.
25:48One of the guns did come back stolen.
25:52So Gregory is getting booked on that.
25:53So he'll be in jail for a couple of days.
25:59From what I have so far.
26:00One of the guns did come back stolen, so Gregory's getting booked on that, so he'll
26:14be in jail for a couple of days.
26:25From what I have so far, Kamani is identified as the driver of the perpetrator's vehicle.
26:33There was two other perpetrators.
26:36Gregory matches the general description of the second perpetrator.
26:41He's lighter skinned, he has a bushy style haircut, but it's not enough to arrest him
26:48for murder.
26:55So what are we doing today?
27:06We're going to Malcolm's mom's house.
27:12We arrested Kamani last Thursday.
27:14Right.
27:15So I'm just going to go give her an update, let her know that he's in jail, and that he
27:19was arrested with somebody else.
27:22We're working on Gregory Jones as a potential suspect.
27:25Yeah, it'll be nice telling her, of course, that we got one of the guys, but we still
27:29got some more work to do to find out who these other ones were.
27:32Hopefully that'll give her a little bit of closure.
27:34Yeah.
27:35How you doing?
27:39Mind if we step inside?
27:45Meeting in person rather than simply calling them on the phone shows the family that I care
27:53about this investigation and Malcolm.
27:57We want to bring them good news that we have made an arrest and that we're continuing to
28:02thoroughly investigate the other two perpetrators.
28:07Making justice for Malcolm Solomon is important because this can be anybody's tragic ending.
28:22All right.
28:23Well, that went pretty well.
28:24Yeah.
28:25Pretty calm the entire time.
28:27They had a lot of questions that I know you couldn't answer.
28:30Yeah.
28:31Unfortunately.
28:32You know, families usually do.
28:33Unfortunately, this early in the investigation, you really just can't tell them a lot.
28:37Like, I can tell you his name.
28:38Yeah.
28:39Because he's in jail.
28:40You know, the other people that I'm looking at, I don't want to put them out there just
28:44yet.
28:45Right.
28:46So, but I think she took it pretty well.
28:49Mm-hmm.
28:50As well as she could, I guess.
28:53You know.
28:54I'm glad I was able to at least give him that initial closure that somebody's been arrested
28:59and that we're still working on it.
29:03Yeah.
29:04The last couple of days, Gregory Jones has been in custody for possession of a stolen firearm.
29:09But we need more probable cause to charge him for Malcolm's murder.
29:12I mean, right now the clock is ticking for Deesburg.
29:14Any day now Gregory could be released or bailed out of jail.
29:44I finally got the ballistics comparison back.
29:51So, that's a big win.
29:53I compiled the lineup to show the surviving witness to identify another suspect at the
30:01crime scene.
30:02scene.
30:03So, we're headed to the 4th District Station to see who she picked.
30:09Good morning.
30:15All right.
30:16Number two.
30:17I see that the surviving witness picked Gregory Jones.
30:34Okay.
30:35Okay.
30:36So, what did number two do both the date of the S4?
30:41I was putting the car door open.
30:44Is it a driver or a passenger door?
30:46No, the passenger side.
30:47Okay.
30:48He said that he was pulling on the door handle of the car.
30:53The passenger door handle.
30:55Good.
30:56With the identification process of Gregory Jones being successful and the ballistic match of
31:05the guns that were found in the house they were both living in, puts me over the top
31:09with probable cause to be able to charge Gregory Jones with the homicide.
31:14Oh, yeah.
31:15Actually, she did.
31:16Wow.
31:17She picked Gregory out and said that he was the one that opened the passenger side
31:33door.
31:34That's pretty good.
31:35Well, I'm about to head back to headquarters and type up this arrest warrant.
31:39So, I'm hoping that Gregory Jones is still in jail.
31:45Thank you so much.
31:46You're welcome.
31:47So that I can go charge him with the homicide without having to track him down and arrest
31:51him again.
31:52All right.
31:53Let's go type this arrest warrant.
32:09Got the warrant typed up.
32:22I should check if he's still in there.
32:26Jefferson Parish jail.
32:30Now that I have the arrest warrant in hand, I want to see if Gregory Jones is still in jail
32:35for the gun arrest by Jefferson Parish.
32:38Search.
32:39He is not in there.
32:40So, yeah.
32:41So, he's bonded out on his stolen gun charge.
32:45It's frustrating that he's not in jail anymore, but the arrest warrant's never going to go away.
32:50So, he'll get picked up eventually.
32:52The marshals are going to find you pretty much wherever you go.
32:56Here we go.
32:57I'll send this warrant off to Vows to go look for him again.
33:01Once he's in custody, it'll be another clearance for this case.
33:06And then I'll have to work on the third perpetrator, see what I can find out on him.
33:13I'll have to wait until Wednesday.
33:14So far, you're going to need to be examined.
33:15Arana, where we're going?
33:16Now, you get you?
33:17You're going to need to go.
33:18You're getting to know me that you have to be published once.
33:21I can't wait for him after all.
33:22Then you're going to read the story, then the other way of a year.
33:23Now, when you're on Instagram, you're getting to know what I got called him.
33:24There is a place to go.
33:25What's going on with you?
33:26What's going on with that?
33:27Then you're going to talk?
33:28You're going to read some kind.
33:29What's going on with that?
33:30You're going to go!
33:31Like I got a year ago.
33:32Oh yeah, this way you're not going to mind.
33:34You don't know.
33:35What's going on with that?
33:37I'm definitely intrigued about why he has the plate from the perpetrator vehicle, why
33:56it's on a different car.
33:58So hopefully he can explain that or he's going to have some more serious questions to answer.
34:03He might be the third suspect.
34:06I usually ask how you doing, but I know it's kind of a rough morning for you.
34:18So my name is Detective Deesbury, this is Detective Jefferson.
34:23I'm interested in your car that you have right now, where you got it from, who you got it
34:28from, and pretty much everything like that.
34:31I bought it last Tuesday.
34:33Okay.
34:34Where'd you buy it from?
34:36A homeboy line in West Wigo, outside of a friend.
34:41Was the plate on the car when you bought it?
34:43No.
34:44Where'd you get the plate from?
34:45So I'm working on .
34:47I was waiting on the template and I just got a plate from the junkyard and just in between
34:56get my template because I didn't want to get pulled over.
34:58That's what happened.
35:00Okay.
35:01It's like a bin that y'all just threw old stuff in.
35:03We just throw, we just throw, yeah.
35:04We just throw all our junk in.
35:05It's aluminum.
35:06So we just threw it in.
35:07Okay.
35:08And you just went in that payment?
35:09I just went from, you know, a plate.
35:10Okay.
35:11And just put it on the fire.
35:12So like I said, my body template came in.
35:14So no telling when that plate came in.
35:16Right.
35:17There's no telling.
35:18I was just using it as a stopgap, man, between getting...
35:20I didn't think it was going to be all this.
35:22He doesn't really know what's going on.
35:23He seems very nervous.
35:25I pretty much explained to him where the plate is from.
35:28He doesn't know anything about the homicide and he just explained how he came into possession
35:32of the plate.
35:33The plate on this car came off of a homicide vehicle.
36:00I'm not worried about the car itself.
36:02I just want to take the plate off, photograph the plate on the car, and then fingerprint
36:07the plate after you take it off.
36:09Okay.
36:10Sounds good.
36:11License plates are pretty conductive to lifting fingerprints off of them because they're
36:18a smooth surface.
36:19They're not permeable.
36:20So I'm hoping that if the plate was taken off of the perpetrator vehicle by the suspects,
36:25maybe their fingerprints will still be on the license plate somewhere.
36:29I got one right there.
36:30Okay.
36:31One right there.
36:32We got some right here in the middle.
36:36One.
36:37Nine oh five for prints.
36:38Yes.
36:39Six.
36:40Yes.
36:41Two on the front, four on the back.
36:43So this dude, he works at the scrapyard.
36:44She was like, man, I'm just going to grab this plate that's in the box, put it on my car
36:59so I don't get pulled over between then and now.
37:02What's the odds of grabbing that plate?
37:03I was like, bro, you grabbed the worst possible plate you could have grabbed out of that.
37:06Oh my God.
37:07Oh my God.
37:08So out of all of the plates in the box, he grabs the one that's tied to a murder.
37:12I don't think he's going to be one of my perpetrators.
37:24He was pretty straightforward about where he got the plate from.
37:27That plate could have come in off the street from any of the dozens of local scrappers that
37:34go around and just pick up metal and trash and bring it to these scrapyards.
37:39Now I'm just still looking for this car and see if we can find Gregory Jones.
37:46The arrest warrant is a paper document.
37:49It goes into a nationwide database.
37:51So no matter where you're at in the country, if a police officer stops you and runs your name,
37:57they're going to see that you're wanted for murder.
38:00They'll find him.
38:01Cannot run the paper.
38:03No matter where you're at, I'll go after.
38:31J.D.
38:32What's up, dude?
38:33Waynathan. See you over there.
38:35All right. What's going on, buddy?
38:37So they finally found Gregory Jones.
38:40Oh.
38:41The marshals picked him up in the east.
38:44They were having trouble finding him.
38:45They couldn't pin him down close enough to hit a house.
38:49How the arrest went? Anything crazy?
38:51No. The marshals pretty much just said they rolled up on the house and he was outside.
38:54They saw him go inside, so they surrounded the house, called him out.
38:59But he came out unarmed, hooked him up, and took him to jail.
39:03Good decision.
39:04Yeah.
39:05Kamani and Gregory's cell phone records both came back and put him on scene,
39:09traveling from their house to the scene, and then back to where they laid up that night.
39:15Okay, done. It's over.
39:16So we have the guns, phone records, putting them on scene, the car right by their house.
39:22Like, we got everything.
39:23Didn't you get, like, a license plate off the car?
39:26Yeah, the plate was on somebody else's car that worked at a junkyard.
39:30We took the plate and fingerprinted it, but none of the fingerprints were suitable.
39:34But that doesn't hinder my investigation.
39:38Any updates on the third suspect?
39:40Not really.
39:41You got the two you need right now?
39:43Yeah, for sure.
39:44With that being said, how do you think Malcolm's family going to react to it?
39:48I think they're going to be relieved because four or five months I've been telling them that
39:51we've been looking for this dude, and we finally got Gregory in jail.
39:55He's not running around anymore.
39:57The marshals are relentless.
39:59They'll find you.
40:00Congrats.
40:01Thanks, bro.
40:01Thanks, bro.
40:31Thank you all for being here.
40:48Today, we gather not only in remembrance, but in resilience.
40:52We honor survivors, their stories and the voices that have emerged through the pain, demanding
40:59healing and justice.
41:00We are here to hold space for those of you who've lost, uplift those who are still healing,
41:06and stand united in our commitment to justice for all.
41:10Please now welcome Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hudson.
41:15Good evening, everyone.
41:16I look at these beautiful pictures, these beautiful faces, your brothers, your sisters, your children.
41:26You know, I just can't think of any deeper pain than the loss of a child.
41:29I think we owe it to this community.
41:33We owe it to you to take it further and try to prevent this from happening in the future.
41:38And we want your help to be able to do that.
41:40We do not want this circle to grow and grow and grow.
41:44Chief Gurnan.
41:45Thank you so much, Sheriff.
41:48I really do appreciate all of you coming out here.
41:50I think that it's important that as those who have experienced pain and heartbreak move
41:56towards a sense of healing, you know that you're not doing this alone.
42:01My commitment to you on the part of the New Orleans Police Department is that we pledge
42:05to you our support.
42:07When you need that love, when you need that support, when you need those resources, please
42:11reach out to us.
42:12We stand here today with all of those families that have experienced this pain and trauma
42:18as you remember and find solace in the thoughts of your loved ones being in a better place.
42:29As a homicide detective, you're the voice for the victim, essentially.
42:33You have to get the answers for the family to have closure.
42:37This was a difficult case to work.
42:42Malcolm was totally innocent.
42:44Just wrong place, wrong time.
42:46And it's not just important for the NOPD.
42:49It's important for everyone in the city for us to solve these crimes and the people that
42:53are responsible are going to face the consequences.
42:57I definitely think I've gotten justice for Malcolm Solomon.
42:59...
43:09...
