00:00Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated A to Kappa Chapter
00:30Hi, my name is Ashley Gillum, I'm affectionately known as Bri, and I'm a proud member of Alpha
00:47Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, Sweet Alpha Pi Chapter of Clark Atlanta University.
00:54So what made me join Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated is, honestly, it's the only thing
01:01I've ever known.
01:02It set a standard in my life from a very early age.
01:05I joined my organization because growing up I knew the impact that Greek life had on my
01:10parents.
01:11Zeta for me was some of my first exposure to class, poise, and professionalism.
01:16My favorite thing about Greek life, my favorite thing about Omega, is the bond that we share
01:20with the black women in our community.
01:22As an Omega man, it's our responsibility to protect the black women in our community.
01:26The reason why I go so hard for my frat, is because my frat goes so hard for black women.
01:32I love Omega.
01:33Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated just elevated me.
01:37It challenged me, it made me, I didn't have to change who I am to become them.
01:42I was already in Alpha without the letters, without the pen.
01:45When you talk about the Divine Nine and HBCU Greek life, a lot of people just look at it
01:52for, oh, you're, you know, wearing your letters or your jacket and you're ooping or, you know,
01:57around campus.
01:58But it's so much more than that.
01:59Like when you look at it historically, we have always been the backbone of activism, of
02:05just philanthropy and paying it forward and really doing things that enact actual change
02:12within our society.
02:13It's about sisterhood scholarship and service.
02:16And definitely at Ada Kappa, we invited that.
02:19I was actually a Bonner Scholar when I was there, which is a community service based scholarship.
02:23I love the organization because it stresses achievement in every endeavor.
02:29That's what it's about.
02:30It's about paying it forward.
02:31And it's about how you can be an agent of change and doing something meaningful to move
02:36the needle in all respective areas.
