00:30Hi, my name is Ashley Gillam, I'm affectionately known as Brie, and I'm a proud member of
00:50Alpha Kappa Alpha Sephora T Incorporated Sweet Alpha Pi Chapter of Clark Atlanta University.
00:57So what made me join Alpha Kappa Alpha Sephora T Incorporated is, honestly, it's the only
01:03thing I've ever known.
01:04It set a standard in my life from a very early age.
01:08I joined my organization because growing up I knew the impact that Greek life had on
01:13my parents.
01:14Zeta for me was some of my first exposure to class, poise, and professionalism.
01:19My favorite thing about Greek life, my favorite thing about Omega is the bond that we share
01:23with the black women in our community.
01:26As an Omega man, it's our responsibility to protect the black women in our community.
01:30It's our responsibility to empower the black women in our community.
01:33The reason why I go so hard for my frat is because my frat goes so hard for black women.
01:43I love Omega.
01:44Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated just elevated me.
01:48It challenged me.
01:49It made me.
01:50I didn't have to change who I am to become him.
01:53I was already in Alpha without the letters, without the pen.
01:56When you talk about the Divine Nine and HBCU Greek life, a lot of people just look at
02:03it for, oh, you're, you know, wearing your letters or your jacket and you're ooping or,
02:07you know, around campus.
02:09But it's so much more than that.
02:10Like when you look at it historically, um, we have always been the backbone of activism,
02:15of, um, of, of just philanthropy and paying it forward and really doing things that enact
02:22actual, um, change within our society.
02:25So it's about sisterhood scholarship and service.
02:28And definitely at Ada Kappa, we invited that.
02:31I was actually a Bonner scholar when I was there, which is a community service based scholarship.
02:36I love the organization because it stresses achievement in every endeavor.
02:42That's what it's about.
02:43It's about paying it forward.
02:45And it's about how you can be an agent of change and doing something meaningful to move
02:50the needle in all respective areas.
