00:00Thank you so much for having me Essence Wellness House. My name is Dr. Safia Lin. I practice down
00:10here in South Florida. I'm an emergency medicine physician, but I also prescribe medical marijuana
00:16to several patients down here. Medical marijuana got approved in 2016 in South Florida, so we're
00:23happy to be able to offer it to the state and educate the entire world about the purpose of
00:27CBD and also cannabis. Welcome to our segment today for The Doctor Says. My name is Dr. Lin,
00:34and this is Ask Dr. Lin's segment. First question, we're going to throw it to Jamila all the way from
00:40Miami, Florida. What is the easiest way to start trying CBD? So there's several different ways to
00:47start trying CBD. As we all know, we've seen tinctures, we've seen gummies, we've seen vitamins,
00:53a little bit of everything. Just know that it comes in an oil form or a powder form. And those
01:01two extractions can be found in lotions, creams, bath bombs, a little bit of everything, right?
01:06My personal recommendation is to start trying it orally. When you start, start with maybe 25
01:13milligrams, and the goal is to build up to whatever your intentional goal is, right? So let's think
01:19about that. If we want to achieve relief for insomnia, I'm going to start with the lowest
01:24possible dose, which will be 25 milligrams, whether that's in a pill form, a capsule form,
01:29or a tincture form. And then I can build up until I achieve relief from my insomnia. If that's 50
01:36milligrams a day you need to take, if that's 75 milligrams a day you need to take, every one is
01:42different. Depends on our body weight, depends on what other medication we're taking. So all of that
01:46needs to be considered in our past medical history in terms of what is the appropriate dosage for you.
01:52Remember, dosing CBD is an art. There is no FDA approved way to come up with a formula to tell
01:59you what is best for you. It is a customizable thing. So you have to decide with your intention
02:04and with mindfulness, what's the best way to start dosing CBD, right? I recommend oral, start low,
02:11build up, and just use as little as you need. Because remember, this isn't expensive.
02:15This is definitely an investment in your health. Thank you so much, Jamila. Let's move on to our
02:20next question. All right, I've got a question from Naomi in New York City. Thank you so much,
02:28Naomi, for submitting this question. Can cannabis cure chronic illnesses? And if so, which one?
02:36That's an awesome question. Can cannabis cure chronic illnesses? Let's think about this. When we say
02:42cure, I don't see cannabis curing cancer. I don't see cannabis curing seizure. What I do see are
02:51treatments, right? So what I want to clarify in the vocabulary is that it's not curing and getting
02:58rid of the entire disease, but it's an amazing form for treatment, right? So when we think about
03:04alternatives to prescription medication that's available to us now, just know that cannabis can and
03:11should be one of your number one choices to consider. When you think about the low risk of
03:16side effects and all of the medicinal benefits of it, and the easiest ways to take it into your
03:21system and ingest it, know that cannabis is an option for you. And you should always discuss these
03:27options with your primary care doctor. As I mentioned before, you can't just use things without any
03:33guidance or any direction. You want to make sure that you're doing things under the supervision of
03:39your physician who is treating you for other medical conditions, and there's nothing that's
03:42fighting or combating each other, right? Let's move on to our last question of the segment.
03:48Cheryl from Olympia Fields, Illinois. Is cannabis good for pain relief during pregnancy and postpartum?
03:55That's an excellent question. For all my women who are getting ready to deliver and going through the
04:01next nine months, cannabis is an amazing source, but it just has not been tested enough in order to
04:08determine if it is safe and best to use in pregnancy. Thank you so much. Welcome to Ask Dr. Lin,
04:14and this is a Dr. Sed segment on Essence Wellness House.
