00:00Sometimes, as we jump in here on the River Islands guest line, no matter what the topic is,
00:05you push it aside when somebody is that special, and the man sitting down next to us is one of those people,
00:13Michael Irvin here on 95.7 The Game. How you doing?
00:16Man, I'm doing great, man. It's great to be back on The Game, too, man, with you guys, man, hanging out.
00:21It's been too long, Michael.
00:22It's been a minute, man. It has been a minute.
00:24It has been a minute.
00:24Okay, take us through the week, man. What's going on?
00:27Man, it's great to be here. It's great to be here in San Francisco because it brings back so many great memories
00:32and some tough ones, too. You know what I mean?
00:35It brings back some tough ones, but those great battles that we've had around here, man, for me, honestly,
00:42I think those have been some of the greatest rivalry battles, Dallas and San Francisco,
00:48and playing in an NFC Championship game that I know.
00:53I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world, and it's good to be back.
00:56You know what? I'm, like, inspired to ask you right now because we are talking largely this week,
01:04NBA trade deadline, all the drama with the Warriors.
01:08Warrior fans are really trying to reckon with the idea of moving out of a dynasty.
01:14You know about this.
01:16So I would love to hear those Cowboys, those Niners back in the day.
01:21What do you say to fans about the difficulty of kind of moving out of a dynasty?
01:26And it is difficult. It is difficult because you've dominated for so long.
01:32You've walked in stadiums expecting to win, and now you have to turn to, can we?
01:38I hope we can. I wish we could. You know what I mean?
01:41It changes everything, you know?
01:44So I remember when it started kind of falling off, kind of falling off,
01:51and you're trying to hold on.
01:53I remember Dion calling me, and we were having a private meeting,
01:58and I was looking at him, and he was talking, like, we got to do something.
02:01We got to do this. We got to do this.
02:03And I just kind of said to him, I'm, it's over.
02:08I think it's over.
02:10That dynasty is, because, you know, we were going to games,
02:16wasn't the same confidence.
02:18And you start, you lose so many guys and pick up guys,
02:21and they don't carry the same practice habits and things like that.
02:25So it's a tough thing. It's a tough thing.
02:28And you got to have one of those great coaches.
02:30Now, this is for San Fran, you guys, and I used to,
02:34I tell those guys all the time, you guys got one of the greatest coaches,
02:37if not the best coach in the NFL right now, and that's Kyle Shanahan.
02:41Y'all can say what y'all want to say.
02:42I know y'all, hey, what, Kyle Shanahan, a different dude.
02:46That's a different dude right there.
02:48Look at all the injuries, and they still find a way to stay right in the thick of things.
02:53You know how many teams would have crumbled,
02:56would have crumbled under the kind of injuries you guys had this year in San Francisco?
03:01Man, they would have crumbled, man.
03:03Kyle Shanahan is a beast.
03:05A beast.
03:06Steph still went 12-5, and he went to Philly and beat the Eagles,
03:10and that's something that you can, I'm sure, appreciate and enjoy as well.
03:13Insane, dude.
03:15I'm like, man, this is different.
03:18That's different coaching, man.
03:20You do it with my priority.
03:22I do it with Matt Jones.
03:23I do it with him.
03:24I hope you want him.
03:25You out of here?
03:26Okay.
03:27You're going to probably still win.
03:28You get out of here.
03:29We're going to still win.
03:31It's amazing.
03:32It is amazing.
03:34And you just got to give him credit, man.
03:36He's one of the best.
03:37I love that.
03:38Let's do talk about the wide receiver position with the 49ers, though, right now
03:42because, obviously, this did not go the way they drew it up.
03:46Ricky Pearsall's injuries, Brandon Ayuk's situation.
03:49What do they need to do there?
03:51Well, you know, no more Deebo.
03:54He's gone.
03:55He's in D.C., you know.
03:56But it's what we say.
03:58You know, he's going to find other receivers.
04:01What Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers are doing, they're winning with systems.
04:07They're saying, we got a great coach and we have a great system.
04:11We're going to win system beating system.
04:15We can interchange players as long as we have our system is going to beat their system.
04:21And they'll go and find some guys this year, and they'll stick them in that system,
04:26and they'll come up and make plays.
04:29They've done an incredible job to stay relevant.
04:33And if I'm Brandon Ayuk and all of these guys, I'm like, why are you trying to get out of here?
04:39Like, what dummy are you?
04:42Why would you try to leave?
04:44I don't understand that.
04:46When I used to talk to Deebo, and the first time around when they were having issues,
04:50I was like, Deebo, don't leave Kyle.
04:53Why would you want to leave him?
04:54Like, I don't know.
04:55So, man, I would stay with Kyle as long as I could stay with Kyle Shanahan because he's just a phenomenal player.
05:03So, yeah, they'll find receivers.
05:05They'll find receivers, and they'll plug and play, and that system will keep moving.
05:10And part of the system is what they do with Christian McCaffrey.
05:13And I was looking at some of the numbers, Michael, about the amount of touches he had.
05:17And the name Emmitt Smith popped up, and, you know, what he did in your system and what McCaffrey's doing in this system.
05:23How impressive is it when you watch, like, one of your teammates going for more than 400 touches in a year?
05:29Right, right.
05:29And he's a workhorse, man.
05:32He's a phenomenal, phenomenal talent, Christian McCaffrey is, man.
05:36And watching him play every week and how hard he plays.
05:40Now, I do believe, sometimes I feel like, boy, they put too much on him because they put a lot on him.
05:45They put a lot on him.
05:46But, and with some of the injuries and all of that, they're going to have to find some ways to relieve him, to relieve him.
05:54But I tell you what I was thinking about when I was thinking of Christian McCaffrey this year.
05:58You know what made me think about a lot, what I thought a lot about is I can't wait to see B. John Robinson in the Christian McCaffrey role now that Stefanski is in Atlanta.
06:10Because now he's going to bring this same system that he was running in Cleveland, the system they run here.
06:18He's taking it to Atlanta.
06:19And we're going to see B. John Robinson in Christian McCaffrey's role.
06:24I can't wait to see that.
06:25It's going to be insane.
06:27Before we hit you with the final question, I want to ask you about your podcast on Netflix.
06:31Oh, yeah.
06:31The White House.
06:32You want to debut it?
06:33Michael Irvin in a Netflix pod?
06:35Tell me about it.
06:36I saw the White House running right towards this thing.
06:40Running right into it, huh?
06:42I was on Jimmy Kimmel last night.
06:44I was telling him this last night.
06:45Jimmy Kimmel.
06:46I said, listen, I said, Jimmy, I called it the White House because me, Brandon Marshall, you know, Michael Beasley, we had on Charles Haley.
06:55I said, everybody in the White House have had some situations.
07:01And what's in the White House?
07:04They got a situation room.
07:07So we go in the situation room to talk about our situations, you know.
07:13So I told Jimmy, I told Jimmy, I said, Jimmy, listen, you can come to my White House and talk about the situation you had with his White House.
07:22See what I'm saying?
07:24With his White House.
07:25And I don't know what would happen if you go to his White House, but everybody that left my White House, they left with a happy ending.
07:34You know what I'm saying?
07:35They were happy in the end is what I mean.
07:38You know what I mean?
07:39They were happy in the end.
07:41So, you know, but think about it.
07:44We all have had situations in our lives.
07:49Seriously, I consider it my ministry because the Bible says to us, confess one ye to the other.
07:56Pray one ye for the other.
07:58In this we shall find healing.
08:00But the world tells us, don't share anything.
08:05So now, we're all dying in silence.
08:08But if we talk more about our situations, we'll learn that we're all going through a lot of the same things.
08:14And we can help each other come through them.
08:17Because everybody has come through situations somewhere on the spectrum.
08:22You're somewhere on this spectrum.
08:23And if you're talking about it, you're helping somebody come through whatever situations they are in.
08:29That's what we have to learn to do.
08:31We have to learn to talk more and share more.
08:34And especially men.
08:36That's why I'm doing it.
08:37Because sports is the only way we can really talk.
08:40We will not say a word unless it's through sports.
08:44So, that's where it comes from.
08:47Absolutely love that.
08:48Michael Irvin, the great, right here on 95.7 The Game.
08:51All right, time for the final question brought to you by Ghostwood Kitchen in Redwood City.
08:55What's your must-have food item for the big game?
08:58What I must eat before the game is some eggs.
09:02Oh?
09:02I want my protein.
09:04And I'm going to give me some carbs, you know.
09:07And I'm not eating anything.
09:09I'm going to eat me some eggs and some pancakes.
09:12How do you like your eggs?
09:13How do you like your eggs?
09:14Scrambled with cheese.
09:15Okay.
09:16Scrambled with cheese.
09:17I'm about to go scramble them DBs.
09:19You see what I'm saying?
09:21I've got to scramble them eggs.
09:22I'm going to scramble your eggs.
09:24You understand what I'm saying?
09:27I'm so crazy, man.
09:29Michael Irvin.
09:30How good is that?
09:31Hey, man.
09:31Welcome to town.
09:32Enjoy your week.
09:33I appreciate it.
09:34Great to have you on 95.7 The Game.
09:36Hopefully, we'll be back here next year and we'll get one of those Cowboys San Francisco
09:40championship games.
09:42Well, no, no.
09:42We'll do it in Dallas.
09:43Hopefully, we'll do it in Dallas.
09:44We'll take it anywhere it happens.
09:47Take it anywhere it happens.
09:47Much love, my brothers.
09:48I appreciate you guys having me, man.
09:50You too.
09:50Michael Irvin.
