The Washington Post is cutting about one-third of its workforce as falling traffic and mounting losses drive a major newsroom restructuring.

00:11costs and reshaping coverage, according to The Wall Street Journal.
00:15The layoffs affect journalists across sports, foreign, technology, breaking news, business,
00:21and technology teams.
00:22The paper will close its sports department in its current form, retain limited roles,
00:27reduce international coverage, and shift its focus to national news, features, investigations,
00:32and health and wellness advice.
00:34The Post will restructure its Metro section to focus on local print subscribers, close
00:39its Books section, and suspend The Post Reports podcast.
00:42Organic search traffic has fallen by nearly half in three years and reported losses of
00:47$77 million in 2023 and $100 million in 2024.
00:52Publisher William Lewis aims to reach break even by the end of 2026.
