00:00Planned talks between the United States and Iran about the Islamic Republic's nuclear
00:04program scheduled for tomorrow have been canceled.
00:07Tehran demanded changes to the venue and the content of the discussions.
00:12Here's what President Trump told NBC News.
00:14Should the supreme leader in Iran be worried right now?
00:18I would say he should be very worried, yeah, he should be.
00:21The stated purpose of the now-on-hold sit-down was to hash out a nuclear deal.
00:26So Iran attempting to make these changes at the 11th hour didn't sit well with the U.S.
00:31and prompted the administration to pull out.
00:34Special Envoy Steve Whitcoff and Jared Kushner had agreed to meet with Iranian officials in
00:38Istanbul, Turkey, but Iran wanted to move the location to Iman and block any foreign observers.
00:46Now, that was a non-starter for the U.S., who, according to Axios, suspected that the move
00:50was made to allow Iran better control of the conversation.
00:54Before the talks were put on hold, Secretary of State Marco Rubio had already expressed
00:58doubt over whether they would have produced any meaningful results.
01:02But it wasn't all doom and gloom, praising the Iranian people and hoping that pressure
01:06from the public could force a change in the theocratic regime.
01:10Remember, this all started, or at least this most recent flare-up started when the Iranian
01:16government started killing protesters looking for change.
01:19That is what motivated President Trump to send an armada into waters near Iran, just in case.
