00:00:28forward i want to start with you in terms of creating spaces for progress definitely there
00:00:38has to be an angle of abolition to all of this right um and understanding uh the way that we
00:00:45have been conditioned to see the world of like punishment right we we we right away like when
00:00:51someone you know messes up or doesn't have the right language to express themselves or that's
00:00:56something that's like quote unquote problematic we kind of go towards discarding them and that's
00:01:00that's what we've been taught right like that's what the prison complex is right so i think the
00:01:06first step is having like a very like restorative uh justice and like a conversation about what
00:01:11accountability accountability looks like um so educating ourselves and like how to have these
00:01:16conversations and the tools are out there you know i'm an organizer who like facilitates conversations
00:01:23and the tools are out there people are doing this work people are getting paid for this work
00:01:27right learn um and then go out and have those conversations with your close ones you can't
00:01:32have a conversation with your community if you're not having them with the community that surrounds you
00:01:36how do we have these conversations with people from central and south america who sometimes have
00:01:41an anti-caribbean sentiment they have anti-black sentiment um we know it's self-hate but how do we break
00:01:49down these doors because uh it's really it's really bad here in california with black and brown people
00:01:56right and that's all a function of this yeah i think honestly like having conversations even on your
00:02:02platforms because i know for myself once i started learning like all the different like you know things
00:02:07that i learned about the history the black history in el salvador i started posting it and people were
00:02:12like wait what i didn't know that the dms that i got i didn't know that and wow i feel seen and it's
00:02:21like that's where you go and just you know showcase like hey look not showcase but you know what i mean
00:02:25just tell people like look this is the history i think in the u.s though it's especially complicated
00:02:30because we also hear do that thing where it's like the black community the latino community and it's
00:02:35like we actually have to pluralize those because in the same way that i could be like i'm a part of
00:02:39the women community there are a bazillion different types of women's and all when you think about
00:02:44shape size class color like all the things right so i think here in the u.s especially like saying
00:02:50black communities right because that exists to your point everywhere it's not it's not a monolith and i
00:02:55think for some people that notion is overwhelming they're like oh like what do you mean this whole time
00:03:02i thought this was the definition of x and now you're telling me there's more it's expansive and it's
00:03:06like yeah we that's exactly it and even further like specifically with my haitian family that we're
00:03:11haitian we're black but then there's also like like you said like there's like the stereotype of being
00:03:16black and ghetto and from the hood like that's a whole different oh no we don't know what but we're
00:03:22black though for them like my parents is it clicks a little bit it doesn't click a little bit but i do
00:03:27want to give them that further knowledge of like hey like you are that black black you are you know so i
00:03:32definitely understand that you know teaching them and giving them like the knowledge is important
00:03:37but sometimes it just doesn't stick and that's what honestly that's what i'm struggling with and
00:03:40sometimes though it's about making the conversations accessible because i think at least i can speak for
00:03:44myself in the beginning of a lot of these discussions i'm like i didn't get my master's
00:03:48and yo no se que and i'm not you know like i don't have those credentials so like who are you to
00:03:53talk about this topic because you're not a professor you don't you don't have a phd or whatever that is and
00:03:58then realizing that i'm allowed to talk about this topic because this is my lived experience
