00:00Hey Naturally Curly World! Happy Monday! I'm Alexandra and today we are doing our
00:05Facebook Q&A live so you already know if you have any questions feel free to
00:10comment below and we will answer them for you right here right now. So today we
00:16are going to be talking about sleeping with curls, how to protect your curls, how
00:20to refresh your curls the next day. I know most of you already know about
00:25like pineappling and sleeping with a satin bonnet and a satin pillowcase but
00:29we just wanted to reiterate a few tips to help you really protect your curls at
00:34night so that styling you here the next day is a lot less stressful for the
00:38curlings on the go. So I'm gonna let a few of y'all join in before we get started but
00:45just so you know the theme of today we are focusing on protecting your curls
00:49while sleeping.
00:59So as most of you already know I think like the universal curly girl method most
01:08curly girls like to sleep with their hair in a high bun high ponytail or pineapple
01:13but if you're like me and your hair is like in between stages you're growing it out
01:20and you might not have hair long enough to pineapple you can also just do multiple
01:25pineapples so like me I would pull my hair up right here and then leave this out and
01:29then I would just tie it up into a satin scarf or bonnet or if your bonnet is
01:37always coming off you can just simply sleep with a satin pillowcase and then
01:45another option if you don't like having your hair tied up or pulled up because
01:49that's like too tight on your head you can also just try the two strand twist
01:54method which is really just twisting your hair really just getting definition so
01:59when you wake up the next morning your hair is already defined all I have to do is
02:03fluff it and go. You can even try mini braids or just doing regular corn rolls that way
02:12you can wake up and have a really popping braid out and let's see I've already talked about the
02:26satin bonnet the pillowcase the twist the braids in the high pony and in the
02:32multiple pineapples so I think we've covered pretty much all the ways for
02:36protecting your curls at night now we can transition more into how to really refresh
02:41your curls the next day and I brought a few of my favorite curl refreshers so me
02:47personally I just do I just pull this hair up when I'm sleeping at night and I
02:52sleep on a satin pillowcase I'm pretty low maintenance and don't have time for
02:58the bonnet and the scarf because it always comes off but in the morning I do
03:03refresh with just simply a water bottle I know other curlies they like to put
03:08their favorite leave-in mix in with their water bottles so you can totally try that
03:12too but my other favorite curl refresh that I love is by flora and curl and it's
03:18the jasmine oasis floral hydration hair mist and this is really like if you're out in the
03:27sun you've been out like on a busy day you can just keep this with you in your
03:32bag and we'll know why I like it a lot it smells really good because it has rose
03:38alloy and jasmine so all these different oils and it's perfect for like just
03:44being out about and have a little curl refresher with you another one that I
03:48like is the weed add a botanical boost and it's curl energizing and refreshing
03:55spray this is also another good one and then one of my favorite detanglers
04:00because sometimes you do wake up with knots and your hair is looking a little a
04:05little crazy and this is one of my favorites Oyen Oh My Glide detangler it
04:11is everything it really helps detangle your hair has a lot of slip in it so
04:18that's really much that's really how I refresh I don't like to put too much
04:22product in it because usually I've already styled my hair with a lot of
04:27products before like gel and mousse the day before so instead of adding more
04:30products and making my hair sticky and more it would just add more product it
04:35could possibly weigh it down so I just refresh with water so I'm interested to
04:41know how do y'all refresh and how do you sleep with your curls if y'all have any
04:45questions you can feel free to comment below and I'll answer that for you right
04:48here and right now someone asked what is the best way to moisturize hair when you
04:54have a big chop at night so can you tell me can you tell me a little bit about your
05:01hair like the porosity and your hair type but I know a lot of people just even
05:12think about that question I know a lot of people go to sleep like deep with deep
05:15conditioning like a treatment in their hair to really get moisturized so I can
05:21share with you a few deep conditioners that I like and I can also link them in
05:26the comment below so so that you can check them out
05:30she said she's type 4 and has low porosity
05:56okay I already know Shea Moisture has like one of the best deep conditioners for
06:04type 4 and I want to say like restore and strengthen but I just want to find it for
06:13you because I can't think of the exact name of it but yeah basically I would just
06:19recommend that you you can wash your hair and then before you go to sleep you can use that deep
06:26conditioner treatment on your hair and let it soak in your hair while you're
06:29asleep and then rinse it out in the morning and I'm and when I said the Shea
06:36Moisture mask it is called the Shea Moisture strengthen and restore treatment
06:42excuse me treatment mask that is like top that is like the top deep conditioner for
06:49type 4s from all of our community they love love love that product so I would
06:53definitely try that another good moisture moisturizer for type 4s is the Obia
06:59Naturals it's a coral moisture coral coral moisture cream so yeah I think those are
07:07two great options two great options that you can try and I can also link those in the
07:11comments so that you can check it out oh another one yes I have one more the Camille
07:19Rose Naturals they she also has a deep conditioner that is another great option so
07:24also I really just say you can start deep conditioning every other week and then
07:29you can also just start implementing more moisturizers in your daily routine as well
07:34have any other questions all right now
07:41so yeah each week y'all we want to have a theme because we know these questions can
07:49get like super sporadic so this so today's theme is really about caring for your curls
07:54overnight and some tips for refreshing so if I have any questions about that feel
08:00free to comment below or comment anything else that you may have and we'll be sure to answer that for you
08:05okay we actually have some questions too
08:31someone just did heart eyes at you hey girl so I have a question I have to sleep
08:40with my hair down or with a gazillion clips since it isn't long enough to
08:44pineapple I highly doubt I could keep a bonnet on my head overnight I'm a
08:48violent sleeper so my options come down to one sleep with crunch sleep with crunch
08:55scrunched out sleep with lots of clip-ins oh we sleep with crunch can I sleep with a gel cast on my head
09:03hmm so that's a lot going on so I would definitely say I have tried sleeping with a clip in my hair
09:14just like one clip in the middle in the middle of my head and that even hurts so I definitely wouldn't
09:19recommend sleeping with clips in your head because I feel like that would be quite painful
09:23um so I would try if if the clips that's a no-go um and yours bonnet or your scarf is coming off then I would really just really just try a satin pillowcase I feel like that's really like that's just your last resort um wait I'm sorry the internet oh I think it's back now okay um so yeah I would definitely just go
09:51go towards just sleeping with just sleeping with a satin pillowcase just so that you know like your hair is
09:56still protected and you're not getting too much for too much friction um but so you have to worry
10:00about you know having your clip poking in your head and your scarf coming off so I would definitely try
10:05that someone asked how do I keep my hair moisturized overnight I often notice I have a lot of moisture in
10:12the daytime but it disappears once I hit the pillow I use a scarf to sleep um so can you tell me a little
10:19bit about your hair type um first I would first recommend to um if you're not already to start
10:25implementing a scalp care regimen so me I just started I just started recently um like oiling my scalp with
10:34all I need naturally and I do that after each wash but I also do it daily and before I go to sleep I've
10:39noticed a huge difference by that um so maybe if you try oiling your scalp and then applying um then applying
10:48like a light layer of moisturizer on your hair and then apply your bonnet that might help you as well
10:53she looks like a tape for it from her profile picture okay so I just shared some type 4 products
11:01I can definitely repeat a few um so you can try deep conditioning more often or you can even try
11:08going to sleep with a deep conditioner mask in your hair um so you can try um the one that I listed
11:16earlier was the shea moisture uh jamaican black castor oil strength and grow and restore treatment mask
11:22so that is like a holy girl for uh for type 4s another good one is the camille rose natural
11:29um algae deep conditioner she said she's stuck between a 3c and 4a my extreme kitchen is more 4b
11:37medium density medium thickness bra strap length okay she might also need a haircut if she doesn't have
11:45a haircut yeah yeah so you can um so depending on your last trim you can definitely um really just
11:51see about getting a trim and see if that makes a difference too um you know most we're advised
11:57as curlies to get a trim about every three to six months depending on your preference um but that could
12:04also be a huge help for you um but I think too is really just about um just paying more attention to
12:10your hair and just seeing what is your hair really needing so like I like I mentioned earlier maybe just
12:15start with try oiling your scalp before you go to sleep applying a thin level applying a thin layer of a
12:21moisturizer um and then deconditioning more often so every other week or even going to sleep with
12:27a deconditioner in your hair someone asked I'm a 3c and 4a what products would be best I asked what
12:36kind of products she's looking for specifically but she hasn't answered yet okay um I'm a 3c um and
12:45I prefer to use mousses and gels in some creams um I've learned that the heavier creams like things
12:55that are things that have like shea butter um they really they really weigh my hair down um so I one
13:03of my favorite gels is the camille rose naturals uh curl maker and that is actually a favorite for
13:08threes and fours so you can possibly start there um and then also try out a mousse I know mousses and
13:14gels they kind of have this bad wrap for making your hair like really flaky and crunchy um but
13:19the ingredients a lot of the brands have really like set up their game with the ingredients and
13:23making it more moisturizing and not leaving your hair really dry so I would definitely try a mousse
13:28that I love which is the um design essentials almond avocado mousse um and then let's see shampoo
13:36conditioner I also love design essentials this is not sponsored um so design essentials also like
13:42pretty much their whole almond almond avocado line is great um so their almond avocado shampoo
13:48conditioner their mousse the gel is the camille rose curl maker um a good moisturizer is um
13:58is the obia naturals she has really good curl cream so those are just a few and I can also link those
14:04for you so you can check them out someone asked I'm between a 3a and 3b but have thin hair how do you
14:12even refresh that what products are good so definitely you definitely want to use something lightweight and
14:22I even thought it was dry shampoo what are you doing grace well for me like I have thin-ish hair like the
14:29strands are thin I have medium density but um I usually refresh with water yeah if I don't want to use
14:36something wet then yeah dry shampoo or some kind of hair powder yeah so um like I said earlier a lot of
14:43people like to refresh and like add their favorite leave-in um but for me personally I just use water and
14:49that works perfect for me um so definitely refreshing with water um and if that doesn't help maybe like the
14:55next day or next few days just try some different techniques such as dry shampoo um and then get you a
15:01big girl like just start fluffing and see how that helps or I've also seen um wavies and curlies use
15:07like the clip method where they clip their roots just to add more volume afterwards I know that's probably
15:11um a pretty a big issue for the girls with the looser curls
15:18um someone said hi I'm French every time I go to the beach my hair is always very dry and brittle what
15:24can I use to keep it nice yes so that has been like a hot topic for the summer um and I've done a lot
15:33of research behind it and it's actually really interesting so you definitely want to do a prep
15:38before and then a prep after um so before you go to the beach or the pool wherever you're going outside
15:44um to be around water it's really important that you that you detangle your hair before you go
15:50so detangle and then add a leave-in conditioner or an oil whether it's coconut oil um just use some
16:00type of oil that is um really good at coating your hair protecting your hair um so definitely detangle
16:08and then add coat your hair in the oil you can either put your hair in a bun braid it in just two
16:13french braids um twist whatever it is but definitely style your hair before because
16:20recently I went to the beach and I wear my hair like this and by the time I got back home my hair
16:24was so knotted and dry and just like the whole frizz disaster um so definitely style your hair before
16:33put it high in a bun ponytail twist or braids throw a hat on whatever you want to do just basically just
16:38make sure that you detangle and add some oil and style before and then afterwards definitely do a deep
16:44deep conditioning treatment um so those are the top tips for really protecting your hair while you're out
16:49in the sun and going to the beach or full anything else one more oh there's one it's pretty big
17:033c slash 4a slash low porosity thick very curly hair tips yes so I I think it's a lot of 3cs and 4as out
17:14there today so what I'm going to do because I just shared a few products I'm going to just link them in
