00:009-1-1, what is the address of the emergency?
00:28Is that a house or an apartment?
00:30Ma'am, okay, what is the phone number you're calling from, ma'am?
00:38Ma'am, I need you to calm down because I can't hear you like that.
00:47Ma'am, what is your first and last name?
00:53Ma'am, can you hear me?
00:57I was on the graveyard shift, it was about 4.30 a.m. when I got the call.
01:13Ma'am, I just began driving. As I got closer, I turned on my body camera, not really knowing what to expect.
01:21Ma'am, I don't know what happened, but they started shooting.
01:38Ma'am, where were you guys at when this happened?
01:39Ma'am, she was right here and I was on the other side, in the other side of the seat.
01:43Ma'am, I could see a female laying on the ground. She was shot multiple times. She didn't seem to be breathing from what I could see. It wasn't good. EMS workers immediately started CPR.
01:52Did you see, did you see where it came from?
01:55I don't, it just, the door just opened and it was just pop, pop, pop, pop, pop.
01:59What door opened?
02:00Her door opened.
02:01Her door opened?
02:02Yes, her car side opened.
02:04The female sitting next to her identified herself as Natasha Grimes Kelly, the woman who called 911.
02:13Natasha had mentioned that the injured woman was her friend, Kiara.
02:19Okay, just relax for me.
02:21Go ahead and back up. We got more people coming.
02:24Got hit on the side.
02:25Yes.
02:26Just back up. You say you were hit?
02:28Yes, please.
02:29Just, can you?
02:32I had to go in to try to find my fault because I couldn't.
02:36311, we're going to need another ambulance.
02:38Natasha, she said that, hey, I'm hit too.
02:41She points in the direction of her, like, abdomen.
02:44Gunshot, abdomen, right side.
02:48This is going like a good shooting, so, uh, start some more.
02:51This side.
02:53Turn around, be careful.
02:55So I have two patients.
02:57You got a gunshot wound right here.
02:59Ah!
03:00Ah!
03:02Okay.
03:03Give me a tip right here.
03:04Get off the seat.
03:06As I was trying to gather her story, I just called for more medics to come take a look at her.
03:14Ah!
03:15So you guys were right here, just sitting in the car.
03:17Just sitting in the car.
03:18About to smoke a cigarette.
03:19About to smoke a cigarette.
03:20Okay.
03:21Out of nowhere, you just heard shots.
03:22I just hear, we just, I was asleep.
03:24I heard tussling.
03:25Well, hold on.
03:26Slow down for me.
03:27Slow down for me.
03:28Because I was asleep.
03:29Okay.
03:30So were you sleeping in the car?
03:31I was, I was sleeping in the house.
03:32You were sleeping in the house?
03:33Yes.
03:34Okay.
03:35And then I woke up.
03:36You woke up.
03:37And all I heard tussling, but there was nobody in the house.
03:40Okay.
03:41So I came outside.
03:42Okay.
03:43And I seen her car out here.
03:45Okay.
03:46Her story was kind of all over the place because she was hysterical.
03:51So I go to get in the car and I sit down and I say, hey, what's going on?
03:55Uh-huh.
03:56And I'm asking her what's going on.
03:58Okay.
03:59And she's about to start talking to me and somebody opened this door and just start shooting.
04:04Somebody opened her door.
04:05Opened her door.
04:06She told me a random person ran up to their vehicle, opened the driver door and began shooting.
04:15Latasha wasn't really able to give me a great description or even a description on who had done this.
04:26They had did it and just fled.
04:29Okay.
04:35Medical personnel transferred them to the hospital.
04:38And then the doctors made the call that the woman hanging on the ground did die.
04:43This is now a homicide.
04:45At the hospital, we were able to confirm her identity as 28-year-old Kiara Livingston.
04:53My sister Kiara was the oldest.
05:00I'm the youngest.
05:02And we have my middle sister.
05:04It was three of us.
05:06You know, regular middle-class family.
05:10Kiara was like the big sister but the mom.
05:13She's making sure her hair is done.
05:15Hey, sweet nabby.
05:16Sweet nabby.
05:17It was always us together.
05:19We met in high school.
05:22She really lit up the room.
05:24She just attracted everybody to her aura.
05:28We were high school sweethearts.
05:30And, yeah, we kind of went from there.
05:33After high school, we had our first kid together.
05:37But, like, eventually we broke up.
05:40She had two daughters.
05:41She loved our family.
05:43I actually, that day I was calling her because she was supposed to braid my hair.
05:49She's not answering my calls, but I'm still trying to, you know, get the day going.
05:53I'm thinking what was going on.
05:55I didn't know anything that had happened.
06:01My sister called me.
06:05And she told me that something happened to Kiara.
06:10I called Kiara's mom and I could just hear it in her voice.
06:19When stuff like that happens, it questions your faith.
06:22A lot of questions was what happened.
06:24A lot of anger and a lot of, you know, just frustration.
06:30Like, how? Why?
06:32Like, why would you take her from my daughter?
06:41So I just want to do a quick sweep, see if we have a crime scene back there.
06:43Well, we've got Casey's right here, too.
06:45Okay.
06:46Right here under the wheels.
06:47When we first arrived, we were out on another homicide that occurred two nights prior.
06:53And so lack of sleep played a huge role.
06:56Everybody was kind of wearing out, wearing down.
07:00And so my phone rang that morning at about 5.20 a.m.
07:04And you say goodbye to the family at the house because you don't really know when you're going to be home.
07:10I remember getting on scene.
07:13Silver sedan sitting there with a driver's side door open.
07:18Car was still running.
07:21Multiple shell casings were in front of the car.
07:23The impact points to the outer door frame of the car.
07:28And then as you looked in the car,
07:30a gun magazine was laying kind of on the door jam of the driver's side of the vehicle.
07:38And that was interesting because we don't normally see magazines outside of guns left at crime scenes.
07:45And so we look for fingerprints.
07:47We swab for DNA evidence.
07:52Are they in here?
07:53Yeah, well, she said she was upstairs asleep.
07:55She came down because she heard, like, a commotion.
07:58Who?
07:59Her.
08:00I remember just talking to other officers.
08:04And Latasha's stories had come all over the place.
08:07Came down because she heard a commotion.
08:10Came out to smoke a cigarette.
08:12Was getting ready to smoke a cigarette.
08:15And then somebody came and opened her door and fired.
08:20Her story is still a little confusing to me.
08:23Latasha did give some different statements to the responding officers,
08:27which sometimes it can happen because people have been at a traumatic event.
08:32People don't really remember.
08:34So how did she get shot?
08:37That's what I'm saying.
08:38It's not making a lot of sense.
08:40She was a little scared, a little frightened on what had just happened.
08:43So it's like you're just trying to figure out what's going on.
08:46At that point, you want to secure your scene.
09:01We don't know if the shooter's still there.
09:06I got an open door here, Arnston.
09:07Police department, anybody here?
09:18There was a front door that was wide open to Latasha's house.
09:23Latasha had given us consent to go in the residence.
09:27Aurora police, anybody in here?
09:31For that brief moment, your adrenaline's pumping,
09:33and it's almost like you're not even breathing.
09:37You never know what's going to be inside.
09:40You never know what you're going to encounter.
09:43Police department, if you're inside, announce yourself now.
09:46We're coming in.
09:49Police department, if you're inside, announce yourself now.
09:52We know from officers on scene, Latasha had come from the house to the car.
10:11We're police.
10:12Nearsiah, make yourself known.
10:14City officers go back in the house to make sure they don't have a person hiding out that could harm anybody else.
10:19You want to throw a block on that back one, and I'll check this one.
10:24Police department, anybody in here?
10:26After clearing the residence, no one was found to be inside, but what I did notice was that the backsliding door was open.
10:38That immediately started ringing bells, like, did the shooter run out of it?
10:44Did somebody come back through the house after this happened?
10:46It just gets your mind, makes your mind wonder.
10:50There was a piece of mail with the name Cleveland Grimes on it.
10:55The mail address gives us an indicator that he's obviously living there, he's getting mail there.
11:01We really didn't know anything past that, whether he had any involvement, whether he was a witness to this, whether he had been another victim or anything.
11:10So since we didn't find anybody in the residence, we then turn our investigation to the canvassing the area, talking to neighbors, talking to witnesses.
11:23The sun's coming up, people are starting to wake up, and come and go from their residences.
11:36They were looking at the scene. There was a burgundy car that took off. I heard that there was a guy with a black hat. That's them right there.
11:46They were here last night. I don't know if they had anything to do with it, but they were here.
11:52A neighbor said that he saw a burgundy car fleeing the scene.
11:59Who's really out at 4.30 in the morning driving around that fast?
12:04So there's a probability that it was involved.
12:08It's very important that we identify this car to try to figure out if this is linked to the commission of the crime or not.
12:16The officer rushes over to the car, obviously to try to see who's in the car while exercising some caution.
12:26No, I don't want to know. And I are making contact with the possible witnesses. Can you log? Ocean?
12:36All right.
12:39Hi, ma'am.
12:40Hi.
12:41Hi.
12:43Um, what's your name?
12:45Donisha.
12:46Donisha? Okay.
12:48She makes contact with the driver, who's a female, and does her own initial investigation.
12:54See, I was just being nosy.
12:56You were just being nosy?
12:57Yeah.
12:58Okay.
12:59Okay.
13:00So you don't know anyone that lives here?
13:01I don't.
13:02Okay.
13:03And you don't know anything of what took place here at all?
13:05I don't.
13:06The man just said something about two people. That's all I know.
13:09She did have a good timeline for her whereabouts.
13:13So the officer quickly realizes that a person inside the car had nothing to do with the shooting.
13:20Still important for us to be able to close that loophole.
13:23So we don't waste any more time going down rabbit holes that aren't going to help us with the investigation.
13:33Stay outside of the line.
13:34Please, please, talk to me. Please, please.
13:37I can talk to you, but I don't have any information.
13:40Mom, I can't find my sister.
13:42Okay.
13:43Okay.
13:44At the scene, I observe a female arrive, and she keeps asking me, is it Kira?
13:53And at this point, Kira's car is still there.
13:59I can't tell her no.
14:02Sorry.
14:07And I tell her, yes, Kira's gone.
14:09And I remember she just completely collapsed.
14:16She just held me, because she knew I was hurt.
14:24And she knew that I'm the baby.
14:30Seeing her vehicle.
14:37I just lost my best friend.
14:39I lost my favorite person.
14:42That was the person that I was able to call for anything and everything.
14:48So, I didn't take it too well.
14:52She was struggling, and I had no reason to not give her a hug.
15:04That's kind of what you do as a human being.
15:07That's my big sister.
15:09My blood.
15:11That's my blood.
15:13You console other people when you see them in pain.
15:17And Ebony was obviously in pain.
15:19Yes, my blood!
15:23I appreciate her for doing that for me.
15:28I was really taken aback.
15:29I blacked out.
15:30I couldn't even tell you much from there.
15:33Here.
15:35Go ahead and call my cousin.
15:37I'll call her.
15:39Yeah, go ahead.
15:40Call her.
15:42And...
15:44Oh, my God.
15:46Ebony wasn't the only family member that showed up on scene that morning.
15:52Kendra's, Kira's mom, also showed up.
15:55I'm sorry.
15:57I'm sorry.
15:58Y'all, come on.
15:59Go in the house.
16:00Y'all both go in the house.
16:02I would like to know who we knew about that.
16:04Some dude named Trey.
16:06That's the name only name I've heard.
16:10I remember Kendra making a statement about all she knows is that it involved a man named Trey.
16:20And so, at this point in the investigation, that's the first time that name had come up.
16:26Everyone was a bit excited about what the name Trey might lead to.
16:32Have we just had a breakthrough in the case?
16:34And where do we go from here?
16:37Who is this person?
16:39And is that our suspect?
16:50Kendra, Kira's mom, has brought up Trey.
16:53We wanted to know about Trey.
16:57Who is he?
16:59Have you ever met him?
17:02Can you describe him?
17:04And so, those are all the questions that we wanted answers to right away.
17:11Kendra knew Kira and Trey had a relationship.
17:16That it was casual.
17:19But she didn't have anything that we could use for identification purposes.
17:25And so, I continue with the interviews to help us connect the name Trey.
17:32We had identified another very close friend of Kira's.
17:37Her name was .
17:39agreed to come to the station and be interviewed.
17:42First off, you classify yourself as best friend with Kira.
17:53How long do you know her?
17:55Eight years.
17:57How do you know Trey?
18:00How do you know Trey?
18:02Who Kira?
18:05Was able to provide a lot more information about Trey and about their relationship that Trey and Kira had.
18:12They talked off and on, off and on.
18:18But they didn't have a relationship.
18:21And she actually hadn't been telling him lately.
18:24He was super jealous.
18:26What?
18:28He was crazy.
18:30He was a little.
18:32She had went to a pub before with him and she wants to get a drink.
18:36And the guy's like, oh, you know, I'm gonna buy you a drink.
18:40She's like, no, I'm okay.
18:42Well, apparently, Trey watched all this and flipped his week.
18:45Super jealous.
18:47We're a passive aggressive.
18:51Did not speak kindly of Trey.
18:54And expressed an opinion that Trey was very controlling and very jealous of Kira.
19:01I didn't think he would do this.
19:03And it was crazy.
19:04And so now we're starting to get an idea that this might have been involved with jealousy and aggression and anger.
19:12And that this might be Trey is our suspect.
19:16Do you know Trey's real name?
19:21Nobody knows who's real name.
19:23Everyone seemed to know who Trey is, that it is Trey, named Trey, but no one could provide Trey's actual name.
19:32We don't know who he is.
19:35And so that's extremely frustrating when you have this kind of information and you just haven't turned the corner to be able to figure out who this is and have a face to put with all of these pieces of information.
19:49Trey was a hairstylist.
19:52Trey was a hairstylist.
19:55Trey was a hairstylist.
19:58And she wanted to open up her own little boutique.
20:03Do hair, you know, have nice clothing lines.
20:09She had a whole life ahead of her.
20:16Who would want to rip that away?
20:22The funeral was nice.
20:25We all were in our white and gold.
20:29Gold was her favorite.
20:30She always had her gold on.
20:35It was really nice to her now with so many people there.
20:38It was hard.
20:41Oh, I'm sorry.
20:44I'm sorry.
20:45Can I get it?
20:47Can I get it?
20:54You know, just seeing how loved she was, that was really nice.
21:01It was unreal.
21:04The funeral, I just wanted to be strong for my daughter.
21:12I just wanted my daughter to know, like, she still has her other parent and that I wasn't
21:19going to, you know, just crumble and fold on her.
21:23We really just wanted the answers.
21:29I was taken aback because who would want to kill my sister?
21:34To murder my sister?
21:36Who would want to do that?
21:40And so, at this point in the investigation, we don't know who Trey is.
21:51Something else that we wanted to pay attention to was the other person there the night of
21:59the murder, Natasha.
22:02And she's about to start talking to me and somebody opened this door and just start shooting.
22:07Somebody opened her door.
22:08Opened her door.
22:09We know that she knew the victim.
22:13What we did not know is what happened.
22:18Who was responsible for the shooting?
22:23The detectives made note that her account of the events don't really make any sense.
22:30Latasha received medical treatment at the hospital.
22:35It was determined that she was not shot.
22:41She had some minor injuries.
22:43Nothing that was life-threatening or severe.
22:47And so that presents an interesting problem.
22:51In Latasha's account, she also was sitting in the passenger side of the car.
22:56We didn't know at that time what is going on and why.
22:59We needed to bring Latasha in for an interview at the police department to confront her with
23:04her inconsistent statements.
23:06And I remember her coming straight from the hospital and only being covered in, like,
23:11a hospital blanket.
23:16I'll take the bubble deep.
23:21We're hoping to get your cooperation and getting as much information as we can
23:25to figure out what happened to your friend.
23:28So I can't tell you.
23:30I just remember waking up and I wanted to smoke a cigarette.
23:36Okay.
23:37What time did you come downstairs to smoke your cigarette?
23:39Four or something in the morning.
23:41But I forget my lighter.
23:42But I see the car sitting there.
23:43And I'm like, what the hell is about to come over here now?
23:49Like, what do people want?
23:51So I walk, I start walking up to the car.
23:55But I notice that it's Kiara.
23:58So I say, hey girl.
24:00I know she smoke.
24:01What you doing?
24:03It's early.
24:04You got a light?
24:07I get in the car.
24:08And then I said, okay, I need the lighter.
24:11So I want to smoke my cigarette.
24:13But then she turned towards the door.
24:17And that was it.
24:21I just remember hearing two shots.
24:25Okay.
24:26Where this happened last night, LaTosha.
24:28Whose place is that?
24:29That's my brother's house.
24:30Remember?
24:31What's your brother's name?
24:32Cleveland.
24:33Okay.
24:34Cleveland.
24:35What's his last name?
24:36Grimes.
24:37Okay.
24:38LaTosha confirmed that she and her brother, who she identified as Cleveland Grimes, were living at the residence.
24:49That he was staying there with her.
24:53When they were doing the search warrant on the house, we saw that he was getting mail there.
24:59Do you remember who was at the house last night?
25:02Who all?
25:03I only seen three people.
25:06Okay.
25:07So Mike comes over with Bree.
25:10They sit down.
25:12Cleveland.
25:13And then they decide they're going to go bowling.
25:19So I fell asleep.
25:22You went out to smoke your cig, maybe 423-ish.
25:26And you went outside.
25:28Damn, I forgot my lighter.
25:30And you said, Kiara's, you saw a car there.
25:33The lights is on.
25:34Why was she there in the first place?
25:36Probably just sleep with my brother.
25:38Maybe.
25:39Sleep sex?
25:40Sleep?
25:41Okay.
25:42They meet up after the club.
25:43Everybody meets up after the club.
25:44Okay.
25:45You can look at my phone.
25:46And it'll tell you that not just her.
25:49Yesterday was a different day.
25:51Okay.
25:52No.
25:53No.
25:54That you're aware of?
25:55That I, I don't know.
25:56Was anybody home that you're aware of?
25:57Nobody was there.
25:58She didn't say why she was there?
25:59She didn't say nothing.
26:00I don't care.
26:01I just wanted to like.
26:02Sure.
26:03I 100% have no clue why that baby was outside the house tonight.
26:09Latasha told detectives that she knew Cleveland to have multiple girlfriends, had a history
26:16of being in and out of relationships.
26:18And that was the same with Kiara.
26:20At this point, we have to take into account, can this be a love triangle?
26:29Was Trey jealous of Kiara seeing Cleveland?
26:35I don't recall that Latasha ever mentioned Trey or ever offered any information about him.
26:42So, all of those kinds of things are still floating through our minds as we begin to put the pieces together.
26:51We don't know at this point.
26:53And so there's still a lot of work that we have to do.
27:01With where the investigation is so far, we know that Latasha and her brother Cleveland live at the residence on the street where this homeless
27:11occurred.
27:12We're looking for someone with the name Trey.
27:17The investigation is now painting a picture of some jealousy between Kiara and Trey and Cleveland.
27:27At this point, we need to get information about Trey because we want to locate him.
27:32We learned that the last person that was with Kiara before she went to Latasha's house that night
27:40was her best friend, Lexi.
27:43And so that's an important interview to see what information she knew about Trey, to see where he was.
27:50I interviewed Lexi with my partner.
28:01I remember her being delightful.
28:08Our understanding, you saw her shortly before this went down.
28:13We went down to Purple Martini, the club downtown.
28:17I don't know if y'all familiar, but we were at clubs and we were just dancing and, you know, having fun.
28:22And then after that, the club was over.
28:24We went home.
28:26I mean, I don't have my car, so she brought me home.
28:29The night of the murder, Lexi mentioned she and Kiara had gone to the club and they returned
28:36back to Lexi's house about 2 a.m. that morning.
28:39Lexi had said that Kiara had gone to the bathroom.
28:42Lexi went to the bathroom and knocked on the door just to check on her and make sure she was okay.
28:46And I hear her on the phone.
28:47I'm like, oh, it must be, you know, coming in one of her boos or whatever, so.
28:50How would you describe the tone of that conversation?
28:53The tale was a little bit heated, but not to the point where it's like, you're arguing.
28:56Not like that.
28:57But the tone was kind of, you know, like...
28:59Back and forth.
29:00Yeah, like back and forth.
29:01Like, you asking her something and she's telling you something like...
29:04Or whatever.
29:05Lexi mentioned to us that she could hear Kiara on the phone.
29:08She had assumed she was talking to Trey based on what Lexi was able to overhear.
29:13Lexi said that morning she woke up and heard that Kiara had been shot in front of Trey's house.
29:42Now, the light bulbs are going on because now we have the first piece of information linking Trey to the location where this happened.
29:51Thanks for coming.
29:52No problem.
29:53No problem.
29:54Get out of here.
29:55We know from Latasha that she has identified her brother, Cleveland Grimes, living where this homicide occurred.
30:02And now we have Lexi identifying that that's also Trey's residence.
30:07And so we're putting the pieces together.
30:10If we're talking about the same person, Trey is Cleveland Grimes.
30:16Throughout the entire investigation, Latasha was not truthful.
30:25She knew things that she did not provide to us and made the investigation much harder.
30:30We have come to a point in the investigation that we have probable cause to believe that Cleveland is the one that shot and killed Kiara.
30:45We have people who are persons of interest in a case.
30:48We run their criminal history.
30:49We look up any other law enforcement contacts.
30:51What do they have a history of?
30:53Have they been known to possess weapons?
30:55And so all of that kind of research was done into Cleveland.
31:00And he really had a minimal criminal history.
31:06Attempts were made to try to contact him to see if he'd be willing to come in for an interview.
31:13And he was not willing to speak to any of us at the time.
31:18And so we're looking for additional pieces of evidence to build the case against Cleveland Grimes.
31:29One of the follow-up pieces of investigation that we often go back to is redoing the neighborhood canvas the night of the shooting.
31:37It's early in the morning and people don't want to answer the door.
31:40And so a lot of the doors that we knocked, we didn't get an answer to.
31:45And so we went back and contacted an individual who lived in the neighborhood and was familiar with the Grimes residents and familiar with LaTosha in Cleveland.
31:59When we talked with her, she gave an account of what she remembered from that night when the shooting occurred.
32:06Okay, Rakesh, yeah, whenever you're ready, basically hoping to restructure the steps and ultimately leading you to look out that front window.
32:14Okay.
32:15So the shots, I heard the four shots or what I thought was four shots.
32:20And then I was like, I sat here and was like, I think that was the shots.
32:26And then I got up, my window's always open, and I looked over here like about to kind of get an idea.
32:35And that's why I had to open the door.
32:37And then I just kind of did like this and I noticed my mom was doing things.
32:41And then I opened his door and did just like this.
32:46And looked out the window.
32:48And like I said, I noticed what it looked like was my neighbor and kind of looked a little bit more.
32:57She remembered hearing the gunshots and identified a silver car parked in front of LaTosha's house.
33:06And she saw a person standing in the driver's kind of door.
33:11She said that she recognized this person as her neighbor, Cleveland Grimes.
33:16And she was very adamant about what she saw and very adamant that she saw Cleveland.
33:21Anything else you'd like to add or clarify?
33:25Um, no.
33:29We start to get momentum here.
33:32And so that's a big deal at this point in the case.
33:35We're putting the pieces together but don't have the full puzzle quite yet.
33:44We are also collecting video from all of the establishments in the area.
33:50One video in particular was very useful and that was the hamburger stand across the street.
33:59Right in front of the Grimes residence.
34:02So I know the camera's recording and I can see the street.
34:07And so I remember actually stopping the video and taking a breath and realizing I might have the crime on tape.
34:16Did I actually just capture this on tape or is something gonna go wrong?
34:33I press play and I slow the video down and it continues to play.
34:41And a car pulls up with the headlights on.
34:44And the car looks like the car that Kiera drove that night.
34:48And you can also see someone else come out of the residence and get into the passenger seat of Kiera's car.
34:56And we know from interviewing Latasha that that was her.
35:00And then you can see what looks like an interruption in the beams of the headlights.
35:09The approach of Cleveland as he approaches Kiera's door.
35:14And we know that it's Cleveland because the neighbor saw Cleveland at Kiera's door.
35:19And then you can see the muzzle flashes.
35:22And so the video actually depicts the muzzle flash in the exact time that the gun was fired.
35:28And so that was again a pivotal point in the investigation that we now know when Cleveland is firing shots in the car.
35:37Latasha is still in the passenger seat of the car.
35:40And after the shooting we see Latasha get out of the car.
35:44We can see Cleveland leave and go back into the house.
35:50And we can see Latasha kind of moving around and a little bit unsure of what to do.
35:57Latasha went back and forth between the car and the townhome numerous times after the shooting occurred.
36:04It took her a while to call 911.
36:07It was about 20 minutes.
36:10And so if we look at her initial statements to police when police and medical personnel arrive.
36:17Latasha's on the ground.
36:19She's screaming.
36:20She's crying.
36:21She's asking for help.
36:22Got hit on the side.
36:24She can stop.
36:25Yes.
36:26Just back up.
36:27You say you were hit?
36:28Yes, please.
36:29This was not what we see on the hamburger stand video.
36:35Had Latasha called 911 right away.
36:38Could medical attention have been given to Kiera sooner?
36:41Yes.
36:42Could have that made a difference in the outcome of this case?
36:45I don't know.
36:46And that's unfortunate.
36:54Our fugitive apprehension team went to his place of employment and arrested Cleveland.
37:00And he was taken into custody without incident and transported to headquarters to, again, attempt to get his side of the story.
37:13Mr. Grimes?
37:14Yeah.
37:15Call you Cleveland?
37:16Yeah.
37:17That okay, sir.
37:18Cleveland, I'm Detective Fredrickson.
37:20He's my partner.
37:21Cleveland, you have the right to remain silent, sir. Do you understand that?
37:25Yeah.
37:26Having these rights in mind, do you wish to talk to us now, sir?
37:30Um, I just, I've been getting a lot of threats.
37:35And, uh, you know, the jails talk faster than the streets, but, uh, if y'all could just put me to myself, to where I don't have to fight every day or whatever's going on, then we just will go from there.
37:48Okay, well, it's a yes or no, uh, question, clearly.
37:54The question is, sir, having those rights in mind, do you wish to talk to us now about this incident, sir?
37:59No.
38:00No?
38:01No.
38:02Okay.
38:03He essentially said, I want an attorney and didn't want to talk, and so the interview ended rather quickly.
38:09To this day, we have never recovered the gun.
38:15It is still outstanding, and I don't know where it is.
38:18But we were notified that the fingerprints we collected from the car off the driver's door and off of the gun magazine that we located in the car, both of those items had fingerprints that match Cleveland Grimes.
38:33Throughout the entire investigation and through the witness statements, we learned the motive for a reason why Cleveland would want to kill Kiera.
38:48Cleveland was a jealous boyfriend and was angry about some of the things that Kiera had done.
38:55And so he shot and killed Kiera.
38:57Cleveland Grimes was charged with murder one and was found guilty, and he was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
39:09LaTosha was not planning the murder with Cleveland, but the video helps us to establish the obvious attempts to increase the likelihood that her brother could get away.
39:23LaTosha was not truthful.
39:25Based on all the facts and information we found within this case, LaTosha Grimes was charged with being an accessory to the murder.
39:36He was convicted of it and sentenced to two years at the Department of Corrections with 36 months of parole.
39:43With this case and the violent nature of how Kiera was killed, it felt good for us to be able to bring a conclusion.
39:53I think about this family frequently and I know they must miss her.
40:01And so I hope, I hope they have peace.
40:05I hope, I hope they know we tried our best.
40:11And I hope they know that Kiera was important to us.
40:23We'll never get my sister back, you know what I mean? But the guy's sister, she waited. She did not call the ambulance or the police once it happened.
40:33You're one of the reasons why my sister's no longer here.
40:36You could have took the time as a human being to save a life. My sister could possibly still be here with us.
40:46This dude took her life and so you have your moments of damn, like what could I have done, you know?
40:56She's not going to be able to see her daughters go to prom. She's not going to be able to see her daughters graduate.
41:03She's not going to be able to open that hair salon like she wanted to do and that's just not fair.
41:08We've been trying to make her proud, you know? Her daughter's been trying to, you know, do her best to make her proud.
41:15She wants to be just like her mom.
41:17She's leaving behind two young girls that may open up that dream hair salon that she's always wanted.
41:24She always wanted to be a mother and she held that down to the T.
