South Australian health authorities are concerned a measles case in the state, was acquired locally.

00:00There is concern amongst SA Health authorities that a person has contracted measles with
00:07no known source.
00:08In recent years cases of the measles have typically been from people that have returned
00:13from overseas.
00:15This person however has not been interstate, they have not been overseas so that does
00:20mean that measles is circulating within the state undetected.
00:25Chief Health Officer Nicola Speria says it is very concerning.
00:29She says that South Australia has been practically measles free for some time.
00:36Contact tracing is now underway, SA Health have released a list of exposure sites.
00:42They do include the Unley Swimming Centre, the BHP building in the CBD, a number of trams
00:49going to and from the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
00:52A full list has been published on the SA Health website.
00:57SA Health is one of the most contagious infectious diseases and can potentially have some severe
01:03consequences as well including brain infection and encephalitis.
01:08SA Health are urging people if they have been to those exposure sites at those particular
01:13times so watch for symptoms which do include a fever, a rash which starts on your face and
01:21can work its way down the body, a runny nose, a cough and conjunctivitis.
