00:00One thing I could say to my baby when he watches us back is...
00:05I love you.
00:06I love you so much.
00:07We love you.
00:08You are so loved.
00:09Yeah.
00:10You are so immensely loved and adored already before you even took your first breath.
00:18Right.
00:19And we are so excited to meet you and get to know you.
00:25And you're right here, right now.
00:27You're right here.
00:28You're right here with us.
00:29So...
00:30Hey!
00:31Hey y'all, I'm Soraya.
00:33Hi, I'm Joey Badass.
00:35And this is our Of The Essence cover shoot.
00:48We do have some traditions that we want to pass down to our children.
00:53Some of those being what?
00:55Brought you in this world and I'll take you right out of it.
00:57Oh my gosh.
00:58Straight to the drama.
00:59Straight to the drama.
01:00Straight to the drama.
01:01So some traditions I feel like I would want to pass down to my children are definitely
01:07like church, having dinner together at the same time, you know, in the crib.
01:14I think that was like something that was super special that I was made to do as a kid.
01:20And take that time to really just lock in on family time and connect.
01:26What is another tradition?
01:27Definitely waking up really early in the morning.
01:29Christmas is big for me.
01:31So I'm decorating, you know, we're doing one gift Christmas Eve.
01:36You get to open one gift Christmas Eve.
01:38You have to open one gift Christmas Eve.
01:40And then Christmas morning is early.
01:43We're opening the gifts and we're chilling and watching movies and stuff like that.
01:46But you know what?
01:47Ain't no Santa Claus.
01:49Santa Claus.
01:50And that tradition I'm passing down is the truth.
01:53There we go.
01:54That part.
01:55And my parents definitely told me the truth.
01:56That part.
01:57My mom was like, wait a minute.
01:58Yeah, because I'm sorry.
01:59My kids ain't about to believe it's some fat white man coming down the chimney.
02:03You know what I'm saying?
02:04Mama and daddy worked hard for those gifts.
02:08No Santa Claus.
02:09Daddy Claus and Mama Claus.
02:12And I mean, listen, I just really unity, community, doing things together, you know?
02:21I didn't see a lot of that in my childhood.
02:23So that's something that I would like to implement in my children's lives.
02:28For sure.
02:29Another one that I want to pass down that I didn't have a ton of is like family video,
02:35family portraits, family photo books.
02:40Photo albums.
02:41Photo albums.
02:42Yeah.
02:43So that's something that I'm currently working on and something that I've always had a passion for doing.
02:48Because everything's in the cloud, but...
02:50You working on that by yourself?
02:51I feel like we're working on it.
02:54There you go.
02:55But it has been a thing of mine.
02:56I have a lot of photo albums that I've started.
03:01I started like early 20s.
03:02I started my photo albums.
03:03So it's a passion of mine because I really love the physical.
03:06I like capturing the moment.
03:08I like to go back and flip through the books.
03:10Like when I was little, I would go to my grandma's house and she would have a book.
03:14And that's something that I always wanted.
03:16I feel like the most important thing that's brought me peace during this whole journey being pregnant is support.
03:26Support from Joey.
03:29Support from my family and my friends.
03:32Always checking up on me.
03:34Just feeling that love.
03:37I literally cried the other day because I was just so filled with gratitude and just filled with love and support.
03:43And I don't think I've felt that much before in that type of way.
03:48So I'm super blessed.
03:50Like I feel really good about that.
03:52And that's something that's definitely kept me in good spirits.
03:55And when the hormones take over, Babe is a great, a great listener.
04:01And he definitely keeps me level headed.
04:08So I would say support.
04:11Advice for my soon-to-be parents and parents out there, I would say patience.
04:21You know, patience is literally a virtue.
04:24And it is required to do this parent thing, you know?
04:28I think parenthood puts an emphasis on how much control you don't always have in life.
04:40You know what I mean?
04:41Like you're only in control of what it is that you do and how you show up every day.
04:46Yeah, you know, you got to practice patience because these kids, they'll test that.
04:53They'll test that.
04:55You know what I mean?
04:56And yeah, patience.
04:58Amazing.
