00:00When I was a clinical research coordinator, I attended an investigator meeting.
00:05In a room of hundreds of people, there were only two black women, including myself.
00:09So it really made me question whether or not there was a lack of diversity in the room
00:13or if there was a lack of diversity in the industry.
00:17After this meeting, I felt so inspired to connect with other people who look like me.
00:22I started a group.
00:23Fast forward, we have over 10,000 ladies that are in the black women in clinical research group.
00:28We actively work to increase representation within research teams.
00:33Research shows that black patients are more likely to participate in clinical trials
00:38when their providers reflect their background.
00:41Clinical trials are an essential step in advancing health care for everyone.
00:45That starts with conducting more inclusive research, which may lead to more accurate data.
00:51The same friction that I experienced, I am working to eliminate.
00:54I'm just extremely grateful for the opportunity to help people.
