00:00the build for off-road adventure ride is charging towards its epic finale after battling the brutal
00:12trails of Johnson Valley we point our rigs east and set our sights on Kingman Arizona the journey
00:20includes a special stop at the Route 66 Museum for a one-of-a-kind jeeps and java gathering
00:27followed by a run through Moss Wash where a hidden mansion waits for us deep in the mountainous terrain
00:34from there it's full throttle onto the adventure ride finish line the annual SEMA show in Las Vegas
00:42all right so day three build for off-road adventure we are at backdoor in Johnson Valley and I'm with
00:49Brad Lovell who is with us all week and this you understand this as well don't you yeah absolutely
00:54we've gone up in the race we've come down in the race and there's always drama since you've been
00:57on it so often what's what's the level line well the level line during the race is winch it yeah
01:03when we're out here having fun I think the idea is get your driver's side tire kind of in the crack
01:07skirt around this boulder here and crawl the front up slap the rear end and then you know if it starts
01:12coming around to the left get off the throttle back down before bad things happen try it again
01:16because you we don't want to be this way we want to be this way right all right yeah if we if we go
01:20over here you know it's not that bad maybe you can back off but it's pretty much a one-shot slap
01:24the rear end and go yeah it's gonna be a one-shot make it or don't make it yeah that's my plan at
01:29least attempt number one on backdoor this is one of the toughest obstacles on the west coast a near
01:41vertical waterfall ledge pushing eight feet tall my only goal simple keep the tires on the ground there
01:50are a few different lines up back door but I decided to commit to the line that Brad and I
01:55had talked about earlier skirt around this boulder here and crawl the front up slap the rear end it's
02:01possibly the most popular way to do it after a couple attempts it was clear this obstacle doesn't reward
02:10hesitation it's all gas or nothing next up was Adam Lovell in the Amsoil Race 4 Ranger he leaned on the
02:29advice of his Hall of Fame off-road legend father Brad carefully choosing his line Adam wasn't shy with a
02:36throttle but the brutal climb pushed the rig hard temps started to climb and it looked like they got a
02:42little air bubble in the radiator line so he made the smart call to back off park it for a minute and let
02:49it cool down but Adam he's not done yet then it was Nate's turn in his power stop equipped diesel samurai
02:59found traction inch by inch Nate crawled his way right up and over the ledge
03:29with different strategies man when we saw your rig going big cogs turning you look like you were so
03:36excited almost like a little nervous when you stepped out of that truck bro oh yeah I had the jitters big
03:40time it's it's been a long time since I've gotten that much adrenaline on an obstacle but and it wasn't
03:46necessarily it was scary I just wanted it so bad yeah I just really wanted it because I've been eyeing
03:51this for 10 years and now I finally got tires on it and finally made it up I've never seen anybody crawl it
03:57Bobby did a great job spotting me once we got the tires just in the right spot we were able to let
04:01it crawl up which is so rare congratulations dude that nervousness feels good to get out of the system
04:06oh dude absolutely I'm gonna sleep like a baby tonight riding with Ian was an amazing experience
04:11obviously that dude is super talented super experienced and so I got my adrenaline fix for
04:18the week for sure there's a couple sticky situations that were pretty exciting and thank
04:22God Ian was my driver for those now it was Pierre's turn to take on backdoor strapped into his own
04:29duplicate color buggy for this run all week long he'd proven this rig could pretty much go anywhere
04:35and handle any rock I stepped in to help spot him up the rock guiding him through one of the nasty setups
04:41on the trip you want the back end to like bounce over there to crawl if you come this way shut it down
04:54back up but that's the spot right there stay a little bit driver and then because what we're trying to do is
05:06get that tire to catch into this notch right here that's where but the problem is is your right tire
05:11is hitting that side it's throwing you off Pierre had to fight his way out of the massive hole left
05:17behind by the rigs before him once he found the right wheel speed and nailed the bounce everything clicked
05:23next up it was the carbon off-road guys
05:35they came so close to clearing the obstacle
05:44but the big jeep just ran out of steam
05:51no shame here this obstacle is no joke they broke out the carbon off-road winch pulled
05:57themselves up over the ledge and joined the rest of the crew on top
06:03then came Adam back for another shot after watching who made it and who didn't he dialed in a smarter
06:10more aggressive line this time he committed letting the buggy do exactly what it was built for
06:17the rig screamed up and over the obstacle clean and easy
06:23so you made it up and you were very excited about it I was that's a big deal I've put the truck up there
06:29but it's been about a decade so really proud of you thank you ordinarily on build for off-road Pierre is
06:35not allowed to speak but today I got with the producers we've got an exception because you've
06:40earned it today dude congratulations on that you conquered the back door yeah and everything else
06:44dude like a chain yeah I've been looking forward to getting out to these trails for a long time so
06:48getting to hit them and actually make them with Ian and with Brad is if I told 15 year old me I'd be doing
06:54this he'd flopped himself just steps away from the backdoor obstacle Jimmy and the crew from Dometic
06:59we're back in action rolling out their forward overland pickups firing up the grills it was a game
07:07changer to be able to wash our hands in the desert with the hydration station before we hit the road
07:12again pointing our rigs towards Kingman Arizona
07:15day four build for off-road adventure we are now in Kingman Arizona and today we're kicking
07:37things off a little bit different I love a good meet and greet in the morning so we're gonna roll on down
07:42to the Route 66 Museum here in Kingman we're gonna post up all of our rigs so everyone can come look
07:48at them sponsors have a bunch of goodie bags they're gonna hand out we've even got some t-shirts
07:52to give away to some fans we're gonna do that in the morning and then this afternoon we're gonna hit
07:56a trail today's trail Moss Wash it's not that difficult of a trail it's pretty scenic it's pretty
08:02nice it is rated 7 on the Onyx off-road apps that means it is one of the harder trails in the area
08:08but the reason we're doing it is because of some pretty cool gold mining history
08:13it was about a four-hour drive from Johnson Valley to Kingman Arizona and now keep in mind
08:23we're in a big SUV with ice cold AC it hasn't always been like that and that's one of the cool
08:29things about this museum it shows you really what people went through and it tells a lot of stories
08:33about the exploration out here towards the west specifically on Route 66 and the things that
08:38everybody had to deal with and there's a lot of cool displays like this like that would have been
08:41a vehicle you know that they would have used years and years ago if you come to this museum it's all
08:46about Route 66 and all the cool stuff over the years of exploration and it's a great place for me
08:52to spend a little bit of time and really learn some stuff it's like a car show broke out all of a
09:00sudden this is the Jeeps and Java event it's cool we brought all our rigs in even the Aussies are
09:05here Johnny's here everybody's having a good time a bunch of locals brought their Jeeps in
09:09everybody's socializing and you know who gets to do what I get to work on vehicles but I'm okay with
09:14that because we're doing something cool we're going to put a pedal commander on the Revolution
09:18Gear and Axle Jeep pedal commander is really cool it's most of you are familiar with it but if you're
09:23not there's four modes right and so you got Eco City Sport and Sport Plus within each mode you've got
09:28nine different levels of adjustability and we're talking about throttle response just is it going
09:33to be slow or is it going to be instant you've got 36 different levels to where you can customize it
09:38to whatever you're doing in the vehicle the thing I want to do today is I want to test this on off-road
09:43applications traction is the name of the game they don't want to spin the tires you spin the tires
09:48you lose traction you slide off of things bad things happen we want to keep these guys going and I
09:53know they don't want to bang these vehicles up so we're going to put it in Eco mode and dial it way down
09:58and you just do that from the little controller it takes seconds you know so you simply unplug
10:02the plug under the gas pedal and then this just tethers right in and you run this little controller
10:07up to wherever it's comfortable and then they can just do it with their thumb they can control all
10:11of it you can also do it with the app on your phone if you're one of those guys that likes to
10:14use your phone to control everything we'll put it in Eco mode and see how it does on the rocks I'm
10:19looking forward to that we got Steve here from Pete performance and I gotta tell you man this has been
10:25exciting it has been all right what'd you think give me a summary in your opinion of Johnson's
10:29Valley what'd you think of it unbelievable you see all the trails that people do during King
10:34the Hammers and stuff like that but actually going up and doing them firsthand and seeing how big those
10:39rocks are and all the obstacles that everyone's got to go does not you hear this all the time it
10:42doesn't do it justice you walk up the back door and the ledge is that tall and photos it looks like
10:47it's that big and why can't anyone make it but you know super cool to see everyone go attempted and see
10:51everyone that actually got up it just super impressive or the guys that just you know that
10:56tried it and didn't get up and that's a little shout out to us we're going really slow through
11:00all these rocks so having the right coolant for these vehicles is really important overheating is
11:04really common especially in a lot of the older Jeeps so making sure the proper coolants in there
11:08on the OET side of stuff making sure that it's the right additive package for the engine that's in the
11:12vehicles just to make sure that they stay cool on the trail with Blue Def we all have to get these
11:16vehicles out there somehow make sure that your tow vehicle is good that it's not going into lint mode
11:21Blue Def's triple filtered it's guaranteed pure so you know that you're putting the best stuff in
11:25your truck to make sure that you can go out to these trails be able to go out and enjoy it so we're
11:30going to pack up here in a little bit we're heading up the Moss Wash Trail have you heard about the
11:34mansion I have all right super excited to see it and the fun continues we have a boy Matt here from
11:41Eaton I gotta tell you so these guys have been part of us since day one what'd you think of day
11:45one oh it was great it was great yeah yeah it's always a good time and luckily the weather was
11:50awesome couldn't ask for anything better luckily the rain didn't wash away a lot of the stuff so
11:54still a lot of obstacles there I had a lot of fun with these guys yeah it was great things a nasty
11:58rig what do you got done it well it's got our e-lockers in it it's got revolution gears in it
12:02okay it's got a few other upgrades as you could tell winches bumpers a little bit of a lift and
12:07things like that but I put those e-lockers in the front of my rig those things are sweet are you
12:11excited about today oh it's gonna be great yeah it's all money roads exactly historical routes it's
12:17gonna be awesome day four of the build for off-road adventure ride and we're deep into one of the
12:37most incredible landscapes in the southeast we've just dropped into the Moss Wash Trail in the Woolapai
12:45Mountains just outside Kingman Arizona this trail it's rated a 7 out of 10 on the onyx off-road map Moss
12:53Wash dishes out deep washouts punishing rock sections and steep technical climbs that demand focus from start
13:01to finish this turned out to be the toughest section of the Moss Wash Trail a massive boulder bypass that
13:09I tried to squeeze through and it locked me in hard I was completely stuck I broke the rock it's fallen
13:17down it's wedged me in here I can't go anywhere luckily I got this little magic thing on the front
13:22of the Jeep called a winch for my good friends at carbon off-road we're gonna figure out if maybe we
13:27can winch yourself out of this we hooked up my front winch to a huge rock and pulled straight but it
13:32still wasn't enough the earth wants all this metal back I think that's when it became clear that we
13:38needed a second winch to swing the rig around the corner with both winches working in tandem the
13:44rig finally broke free and clawed its way up Pierre made it look effortless smooth controlled
13:56right up through the obstacles earning a well deserved round of applause when he came out the
14:06other side before we head up to the mansion Matt caught up with Brooke in the revolution gear Jeep
14:13to see if the pedal commander we installed earlier at the Route 66 museum was making a difference out
14:18here on the trip so it's been a couple hours since I installed the pedal commander back at the jeeps and
14:23Java thing a little bit earlier today I've been looking forward to catching up with you again to see
14:26you know how you like it well you know coming out of the parking lot I had to put it on sport plus
14:30and four and see how it went of course you did even in city mode it had a little extra pep so that's
14:34what I'm using out here on the trail get a little bit extra bump up the rocks I love it okay so are
14:38you you're not dialed all the way down then you're no kind of in the middle yeah yeah sport plus seemed
14:43to be a little much you don't want sport plus when you're trying to climb up and down the rocks at all
14:46the gold king mansion built in early 1929 was designed to impress it served as a place to
14:59entertain wealthy investors and as housing for the foreman of the nearby gold king mine constructed
15:07from reinforced concrete the mansion features thick walls arched windows and upscale details rarely seen
15:14in mining camps of the era its time however was short-lived less than a year after it was built
15:20the gold king mine failed a direct casualty of the October 29 stock market crash leaving the mansion
15:28frozen in time as a striking reminder of boom and bust in the world of mining so we're here at the gold
15:36mansion and this is kind of the end of our trail so you took a walk through it what do you think
15:40it's kind of got some weird vibes right a little haunted vibes a little I think you had mentioned
15:45like World War II France maybe Italy how are the Revolution gear and axle jeeps doing I think they're
15:51doing great yeah and I'm happy with Willie B CJ yeah because it's got a lot of our product down there
15:56and he's had a couple pickles along the way just as power steering return got hot it it blew a seam in
16:03not with our product so there we go that's always a good thing we got a little bit more trail to run
16:08and then back to town it's last day of the build for off-road adventure ride headed over closer to
16:14a place called Bullhead City now over there there's another trail that I scouted out using onyx off-road
16:20it's called sleeping princess the crew is knocking out some quick parking lot prep before we hit the
16:25road Bill's loading up the Dometic coolers with waters and snacks I'm gonna top up my rig with some
16:30peak antifreeze to keep everything running cool as the temperatures climb and to wrap it up Pierre
16:35breaks out the dupli-color wheel coating touching up the battle scars on the beadlock wheels and getting
16:40the rig looking fresh for the final day of wheeling there are two ways to run this trail and today we
16:48are technically running it backwards the goal today enjoy the views conquer the rocks and if all goes to
16:55and keep trail repairs to a minimum we've had a lot of issues out here a lot of breakage this week with
17:05power steering lines a lot of just drive shafts and all this at the other but one thing we haven't had
17:10a problem with is the crown performance brake lines a lot of guys are out here running those and we
17:15haven't had any issues with those this week so next we roll into the final and toughest section of the
17:22sleeping princess trail hell's half mile yeah then we'll pack up load out and point everything
17:29towards Las Vegas Nevada and the start of this year's SEMA show the finish line for an unforgettable
17:36build for off-road adventure
17:38as we drop into the final and toughest section of the sleeping princess trail hell's half mile
17:58the trail immediately turns tougher this is where the big rock ledges show up and the terrain really
18:06bears its teeth one of my favorite things about these types of trips is how everybody comes
18:24together and turns into like a well-oiled machine you know if somebody doesn't have power steering
18:29fluid they ask around they find the power steering fluid it's been awesome to see the group come
18:33together I think a lot of us have made friends that we'll continue to talk to after this what
18:38were some of your highlights what were some of your favorite parts out here I always like meeting new
18:42people and finding out their background you're riding in the bed of my truck and find out that uh oh
18:46that's the guy that owns trucks gone wild and it brought like memories back from nearly 20 years
18:51ago special thanks to Ian for having me out and being able to carry you know as a support vehicle and
18:56you and some of the other camera people and I'm very grateful to be a part of the off-road community
19:00the winching that we saw this week was a really great example of having a winch on your vehicle
19:06can actually provide in terms of capability when you're out here you're super remote and get into
19:12some pretty tricky situations that you might not foresee you did not back down from a single obstacle
19:17and man without you guys it would have been a rough week thank you so much for coming along
19:21I was really looking forward to this adventure ride coming out here but it ended up being a heck of a
19:26a lot more fun than I thought all the miles we did in JV all the different places that we've seen
19:30and a great team an excuse to get out and see some of these places that we've never seen before
19:35awesome week great time all the trails that we got to do and really iconic spots things I've only
19:40seen on TV things like back door when I went over back door I've only seen that on TV
19:45getting over it with Ian that was amazing super cool week super cool people to be around here I'm really
19:51really grateful it's cool to come out here in our daily drivers and run with big buggies there's
19:55some challenging trails out here didn't know where we're gonna get into but some awesome rock gardens
19:59to climb through and just had a blast you know you have buggies you have just insanely built TJ's and
20:05ours are a little bit more kind of in between with daily driving but they're still very capable of
20:10some of these pretty intense trails us being a gear company we kind of just have a little bit
20:15different thought process of maybe what line to take on the trail minor things here and there but
20:19everyone came out unscathed we didn't have a single breakage of our product which is always a good
20:23thing when you're out here the community of wheelers is like the community of racers if you break or
20:29something happens they're gonna do everything they can to make sure you're okay because they want to see
20:36you in the staging lane or they want to see you on the trail the difficult thing here is getting
20:40through the trails and challenges and we were able to do that so I thought it was great I'm ready to do it
20:44again man I'm ready for adventure ride part three and that wraps up our time in the dirt at Sleeping
20:52Princess outside Kingman Arizona now it's time to load up point the rigs towards Las Vegas for the
20:59annual SEMA show most of the vehicles showing up to the SEMA show will be spotless ours will not still
21:07wearing every mile of dirt from the trail you're used to the mud truck big truck kind of life how
21:13was it living the rock crawler kind of life I dug it man you know what what I like about it is is
21:18people's passion it doesn't have to be anything that I even know about but if it's full of passionate
21:23people I just sit back and watch them and it's infectious you you become a fan of it so it was
21:28really cool man and the guys were awesome awesome that is a wrap on this year's adventure ride we'll see
21:33you guys on the next adventure ride coming again I hope so dude yeah I'll do that every year
